It’s a never ending cycle with race cars. First you break something, then you replace it with something better. Pretty soon you’ll have an LS to replace that SBF. 😂 Just kidding. I’m not a Ford engine fan but I do respect the fact that you still run a Ford engine in your Mustang. These days, that’s quite rare.
Kyle you are a wealth of knowledge gaining experience and defeating problems to go faster until you break something. Thank you for sharing this experience it’s an inspiration to many.
You've probably got it apart by now but I suspect the timing set is OK and it sheared the drive dowel between the cam and upper sprocket. Not unusual in a racing SBF, installing a second dowel opposite the original fixes this.
I was thinking either that or sheared the key on the crank, maybe. There was a flutter of movement on the front rocker arm when they first started cranking it.
@@offroader4fun don't people put a dowel pin in the crank opposite of the key to help keep the key from shearing? Like op said but on the crank not the cam.
As soon as I saw just a little movement in the valves, I thought instantly, "broke the dowel"... Every rotation past the broken dowel, it "grabs" just a little until valvetrain load over comes it again. Seen it a few times. Pretty hard to break even a cheap "offshore" double roller timing chain.
errrrr...Ford...errrr...found on road dead...errrr...errrrr. LOL That was funny. Sucks that it broke so now it's time to open up that wallet and spend some cheddar on a Jesel. Put in some OT and boom, it's done. Happy Thanksgiving, Kyle. 👍
big fan of your fathers channel, also a bleed ford blue Ford guy, so i just subed. I'd ask that you do a tear down and build up vid. I'm thinking that possibly your vids could help pay for the Jesel! Good Luck Man
My first guess was timing components. They always spin over like that when you shear bolts or key ways. I don’t think the chain broke, but you definitely lost timing. Which probably means hurt some valves and nick some pistons. My guess is cam bolt(s) Like you said, running to good till it quit. No other noises. Can bolt… money!
I thought it was a broke crank in the previous short, but timing chain will do too. That’s part of it man, chit is gonna break. I pulled down my sbf a few months ago for some changes and put a Danny b belt drive on it. Works really good. What trick flow heads are you running? Just curious, I run tfs 240 on my 93 coupe. High port, in line valve design. I put jesel on my canted valve Yates heads on the drag car. I guess you also could have broken a cam, it looked as if #1 tried to open the valve when you spun it over, nothing else moved.

Hey, Kyle. I'm not trying to act like I know everything. And and I may be wrong but having the battery charger sitting on top of your fuel cell. If the cooling fan on the battery charger is not brushless, When it's running, it does create small sparks.

Tough week for , the Morris family! But not big damage! I was afraid the block broke!! Absolutely awesome build!! Wicked fast SBF. Just needs a few more stronger parts.
The Cam pin broke because the cam bolt was loose that's my guess 🤔 I always order my cam with the 7/16 threads instead of the 3/8 threads. I torque the 7/16 bolt to 70 ft lbs with red loctite and have never had an issue and my 8.2 deck engine makes 1200 rwhp runs 7.90's 1/4 & 5.00's in the 1/8.
Oh and every auto brand breaks. I’ve seen 5.0 90 LX Fox bodies with 300k miles that have never been touched and 20k miles Tahoes with flat cams and broken rods so doesn’t matter it happens. Build and drive what u like. Cars are just a fun way to express your self. Keep killin it Kyle

Have ever only broken one chain. Premium JWIS chain that lost a link pin as it had not been peined correctly. This on a weekend cruiser 71 Galaxie. As soon as you cranked it I knew the sound. Race engines, they never last long, always stretch and replaced every time the engine is out. This though with soild roller cams and springs.
I really feel like the car left in 2nd gear because when the shifter shifts, the rpm doesnt change like it shifts into 2nd. I also saw the first rocker move some when it was cranked. Could the cam have snapped?
Later that night back at the shop while everyone else is sleeping, Kyle has figured out how to cut off the front part of a SML block and weld it onto his Ford block, creating the world's first KMF engine. 😁
Im betting the center bolt got loose and sheared the pin on the cam gear, had it happen myself and also why i had 1/4” thick tapered washers made, drill/tap the cam for 7/16” bolt plus double pins on the cam gear of the billet timing set. Ive found many brands of cast iron double roller cam gears cracked and pin holes wallowed out from gear movement with the cam bolt tight, ARP washers are too thin without a backing washer of some kind and will relax/concave losing tension too
15:10 I’ve never broke one on any of my engines, but I also don’t own anything that makes over about 700 at the crank. That’s why the saying goes shit happens.

If your chain is in tack, measure it I bet you it is stretched out. You may gain some horse torques with the new.
There is no way it broke a double roller chain. Been using them for years on my drag cars. I would say the cam pin broke or it came out of the cam if your bolt washer didn't cover the pin from coming out. You don't need no belt drive.
