I have a 351/408 swapped 1990 ranger with a t-56. To lower it and reduce weight I put in mustang 2 front suspension. For headers I had to make my own. The go into the fender well like what you trying. I still have the factor break booster and master cylinder. The truck was a factory 5 speed manual with a hydraulic clutch the I upgraded to the American powertrain hydraulic kit. It completed Drag Week 2019.
If it's a tremic box not to sure on your bro's car but I converted a hz Holden ute with ls and 6 speed. I cut the hole tunnel causing issues too the fire wall and raised it a round 3 inches welded it back in double seemed it then very light tapping on the switch areas. Worked out perfect and still looked oem with a bit of grinding and TLC 😊
Some swaps are never easy , But you will figure it out and then that Ranger will be a bullet . Dewey rocks

1966 mustang tri-y long tubes bolt right on with tiny sliver cut off inner passenger frame rail
You may need to cut the collector off the passenger header and point it out slightly and reweld back together.
If u use ricks rangerz raised crossmember u can put the crossmember wherever. Also use the radius arm relocation brackets that delete the cross member that's in your way
Dont use the advance adaptor plates. Lol
I have them in mine and they work just as they should with zero issues...

Pls allow me to preface this, I’ve been a prototype CNC Machinist/Engineer 45+ yrs. So when you use 2 different Conrod bearings, doesn’t this make the hole out of round for the crank? Are you hand honing these to size? I’ve always used oversized bearing and honed on the Sunnen hone. Teach me please?

Saw one like this at a car show in Cedar Park, Tx. I remember him saying he used 1st Gen Lightning factory shorty headers.
What about fender well headers
On the passenger side. Have you considered cutting a pie shape out of each tube and bending the header up so the collector aims at the outside of the frame?

I’m doing a 302 swap now, I can not not have aircon, I’m in Texas , there isn’t many options for headers , there is a guy that makes a really good set but I hear he is slow slow slow to make them, the 302 out of the explorer is an almost direct swap, well I guess it is if you want to reuse the terrible factory manifolds . I’m even considering running the shorty headers backwards then dropping the exhaust down and back in a big arc. Idk yet. I will eventually got to a 351 to get the hp I want reliably .

I know it's better to have the engine as long as it can go but with the engine sitting up higher it will be easier to fit headers but this all can be solve with custom built headers I mean you said if you found the right headers and all you would need to do is cut the frame and you said it'll take you 4 hours then what's an extra 2 hours then you can build custom ones around the steering rack and around the frame on the opposite side that might be something to consider.
I had a 351w in my 1995 ranger and ran mustang 2 headers

I have installed a 351-C in several early Fords, Thunderbird, Ranchero, and Falcon, even a Jeep C-J with a boss 302, lots of work, but wow, what a rush, throttle open dump the clutch and hang on, upgrade the brakes so no one dies.
I have a 88 ranger with 289, my long tubes go over the frame rail like your wanting. Swapping a 351w in it currently and it seems like they should still be fine. The driver side steering shaft goes through the middle of them at an angle

you can use a set of old "Shelby" style tri-y's for the 65-66 Mustang they are supposed to work with a 351 in a Ranger and fit. they Fit being the key word here this is from a Ranger forum 2006

My recommendation, put everything that belongs in the engine bay, and make your headers that go over the chassis frame and not in between the engine and frame, I will guess it will look more like 8" straight sections before they start the elbow turns,. The exhaust pipes will come outside before the rear tyre, it looks. Very cool if you cut holes on the sheet metal from the bed, there shall be enough space to put small mufflers to tame the loud pedal.
Manufacture torpedo/tube header: You could keep it as tight as you want to motor.

Oddball motorsports makes a set of LS swap headers that might fit, cut off flange weld on an AFR/Z304 3in pattern flange....oddball motorsports. Or I used these southwest speed block huggers on my 8.2 ,cut off the 2.5 collector and welded on a 90 deg. 3inch pipe and called it a day.....southwest speed. Also you can cut the radius arm cross member out, It really doesn't need it
Try Y headers produce more low down torque and flow just as well in the mid rev range.

I doubt you'll see this but if it's any help , I'm in a v8 swap ranger group on Facebook and it seems guys are having luck with tri-y header . I see you talking about it as I type this lol. But seen a few guys use them on the group
Most of the guys put a sbc into rangers because they just seem to fit better in general.
I have a friend that swapped a SBC in a Ranger while I myself have one with a SBF. I can tell you first hand a damn SBC is NOT an easier fit...
