Honestly, I think Steve's SML billet LS would make a whole lot of sense for BIG TAR Mullet. Every bit as capable as the cast BBC that it's had for so long and more("3500+HP"), takes some weight off the nose compared to the big blocks which is even more helpful with all that wheelbase, and helps it fit into more classes/take less weight penalties seeing as how big blocks seem to be taking some rules hits lately. Redesigned 6-bolt head pattern, dry deck with hoops, Cleveland mains, no doubt the SML is capable of quite a bit. And, water for the drag n drives of course.
It'd be cool but now the mullet handle an SMX so I'd love for ppl to see what it's capable of find Garrett's huge platform... My dad has been loving his And with how fast we have been in the 8th I could see mullet being a high five second car but a consistent one
Dude, honestly the Steve Morris big block that's in there is a rocket. With Mullet on a diet, I don't see why not. But that aside, seeing the chassis built to take the SMX would be dope.
I don't know what all the underlying issues were with the failures of the SMX in Mullet. However, if they are going to be resolved with this total redesign, it would be a cool storyline to see the SMX back in there and successful.
The problem with mullet is that with the current setup, it was eating a ton of horsepower to overcome. It couldn’t short track well, so they had to just keep adding power till it would really start picking up after the 1/8. Notice that the SMX also wasn’t much faster than a standard Chevy big block? Because adding 1,000 horsepower to a bad setup doesn’t make it much faster. SMX engines are insanely tough. Steve Morris is brilliant, but no engine can take being pushed to the limit just to run 6’s. There are SMX cars in the 5’s for hells sake. Once Cameron is done with Mullet, that SMX would definitely get it to consistent bottom 6’s. Idk, I hope cleet tries the SMX again too, but only time will tell.
@@DownEastSawnothing Cleet did to that SMX was responsible for the broken crank and main caps. When Steve blew it up originally was the only event in that engine life violent enough to do that damage. If Steve had everything Magnafluxed before sending it to Cleet I would change my opinion.
Ok,let me try this way. I really hope mullet gets a bbc,or whatever the first engine was,or,smx to give it a try as drag and drive wise,Steve builds the best, and fastest still,5 second quarter mile, tom Bailey. I can imagine mullet hitting 250 mph no problem if you can really remove 500lbs!!! Yall do,do great, beautiful work,as shown with eagle,i mean, forst hit went amazing, so,im excited to see the mullet with a hair cut. And,if there is room, raise the floor,to get it to sit lower!!!
I think a seriously viable engine for mullet is Steve’s SML. More engine bay room, less front weight and 3500+ hp capable. Keep mullets relationship with Steve going and have a BIG hp drag and drive capable engine.
@ agreed, and was my point about more engine bay room. I think it’s a super legit option for what they want to achieve from the car…honestly, I understand everyone’s nostalgia over the smx, but I think there may be no better option anywhere than the SML.
i was thinking the small SMX or put the big block back in. that will do a really nice drag and drive. if they can build to handle the power of the SMX that was the problem. this is not going to be a pro-mod
they aren't making Mullet a pro-mod yes it'll have a tube chassis setup but this is a beefed up street car not a pro-mod and there are loads of people with the same style setups on foxbody mustangs like McFlurry where they run partial tube chassis deals and you don't see them calling it a "pro-mod type chassis" it still gets classed as a street car also Cleet is likely not getting the SMX again because the SMX that *was* in Mullet is going into a Camaro that Steve is having made for his wife and the engines are expensive as can be and take too much maintaining and we already saw him botch the maintenance on Eagle's hemi once plus the big block it has now is already setup for drag and drive events so would be a waste to change what already works plus that setup alone will likely run 6.10's/6.20's roughly given its PB is I believe a 6.45
You guys do nothing but the best Cleetus wants nothing but the best. That being said, I would love to see Steve's SMX back in that thing to keep the theme of having the best continue in the build.
I'm with the crowd here that say Steve Morris Engine is the only way to go. BBC or SMX but now that this should be able to hand the power, SMX would be my choice.
Cameron I joined because of the Eagle build and will be staying for life. You guys are awesome, professional and willing to educate us all in how to build a great car. Thank you.
Big hats off to Kevin KSR because this car did everything it was built to do and 10x more, Kevin built a hands down amazing race car and I think to do him justice and make it right in the TH-cam world maybe reach out to see if he would like to do a weld on the car or if he would like to be in the design of something👍
From starting as a twin engine jet car to what it is today, that poor ole girl has been a jack of all trades, master of none. It will be good to see a clean sheet intentional build from start to finish.
I’m not trying to take anything away from the team. They overcame a lot with hard work and a 3000hp SMX. But what they were trying to do was far beyond what that chassis was intended to do.
I'd like him to stick with the SMX- big tire drag and drive car with a TT big block sounds good as hell. Obviously he will choose what he wants but for what its's worth..
Has to be an SMX in Mullet. Dual fuel with maybe a removable street fuel tank. Big ass twin turbos & as much as you hate it they should be on top, maybe just peeking out of the bonnet. Keep the look but more streamlined like.
Honestly I'd love to see the same combo go back into Mullet. Would be cool to see a true difference that only a chassis change does for it. Also BBC is a super easy, reliable combo for drag and drive.
Would be nice to see the SMX back in Mullet and see it's full potential. People have had a lot of negative things to say about the SMX. Be nice to shut them up😢😢
It should be the smx, if it's getting built stronger and lighter and can handle the power it should be the smx, a new 1, with radiused corner main caps lol
I was hoping he goes with the newest SMX Steve has available. Will have to keep the turbos on it. If the turbos are not sticking out the hood maybe modify the hood to force air right to the Turbos. A ram air style dual scoops.
@michaelwynne4346 not sure why everyone loves the smx look at the stats for real, drag and drive cars that are supposed to he succesful, Tom Bailey he has car issue not motor issues but remember his block was one of the first it wad made by Dart, the viper smx always engine issues it's sad it's at Proline getting fixed, cleetus all sorts of problems i contribute that to when steve gernaded it with bad rods, there's people that talk then there's people that talk with facts, the facts are there's a few that start out but none seem to go the distance with drag and drive and making it the end is 90 percent of the battle, oh and dude in camaro black one that engine got destroyed also drag and drive, that engine needs to be tested by steve all the time he doesn't put many laps on his, he's already stated there's an issue with harmonics I'm engine and some of the cars be interesting to see the scratch and dent in his camaro and see what happens I'm sorry the smx just isn't the best choice probably be a last resort in my opinion at least the engine he has now are basically shelf parts easy to.fix and replace
@@JonathonDelumyea Dunphy's engine is at Proline because they are close to him. They get parts from Steve for it, and have voiced their likes for the SMX. Garrett broke the SMX because it was in a car that could not handle the engine. It shook, twisted and beat up that engine. When Garrett got it, it was basically a new engine and it was only cosmetic damage at that point. Tom's car has seen a lot of abuse, that's why the chassis failed. The car is back to running condition and should not see any issues for a while. If you think making this kind of power and breaking things is an SMX thing, you're dead wrong. The 481X platform which the SMX essentially is, is a really good platform. Not sure why the hate for the SMX.
The only reason the SMX wasn’t reliable in mullet was because the chassis couldn’t handle it, and that’s exactly what you guys are correcting! Cletus could make HUGE GAINS in Mullet with y’all’s chassis and the chunk of raw SMX power by Steve Morris himself. The only car that would beat it is Eagle 🤣
I don't remember the original chassis shop that started this build ( it was the same one that did Leroy originally), but there was plans to have a Jet Engine in it to start with. Then Cleetus wised up, that shop closed up and had to have KSR take it over and make it what it became. Then Tye jumpping in midway to help make it even better. They pushed that set up to a point it should have never seen. Can't wait to see the next version of Mullet.
Please make the videos longer. I love watching you guys work on these fast cars and I just don't think the videos are long enough. Like a good 45 minutes to a hour. Love what you all are doing keep up the great work.
Let's not forget Mullet was supposed to be a jet powered car originally and then he bagged the idea after a ton of chasis work was done to make it support thatm, which is why it weighs so much. KSR then took it over to get it to where it is now. CJRC are classy for shooting out Kevin. Liking the content, keep up the good work.
This might be my favorite TH-cam channel. Y’all remind me a lot of waking up and watching power block on tnn/spike. But it’s not boring. Good job y’all.
Personally I think if he’s doing big tire drag and drive with mullet, he should give the SMX another try. The SMX didn’t work for him because the chassis couldn’t handle it, so now with a proper chassis I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Steve’s wagon is not small by any means and it works because it’s got a damn good chassis.
I mean, if he wants to do drag and drive like he was saying, putting the SMX back in it is the logical choice. Turbos needed to be down lower anyways, and the inlets should be the high beam headlight locations
There is nothing normal about that it would be way too hard to get parts for... Big cubic inch hemis are nothing but problems and a massive reason why you see people stain below 540 cubic inches in the heavy hitter racing unless it's na or nitrous
If you’re ever gonna do rear mounted turbskies it’s when you have no room in the front and a truck bed in the back lol. I mean…just out the whole engine in the back. Wait a minute…..CLEETUS I HAVE AN IDEA!!!!
I simply love the way you do cars, always true to the classic/factory way, but waaaaay faster. Also the smx is already there and has done really well, and it can provide reliability and muscle
Cant wait to see what you make of Mullet Cameron. Dropping 500+ lbs and ride height will make a big difference. I know people are complaining about the turbos possibly getting hidden but man you make a killer product as we have seen and do what you and your team do best so if you gotta hide them then go for it. Kevin built the car to what Cleetus needed to go racing in. Cleetus pushed the car beyond its design limitations. It is what it is.
However, if they are going to be resolved with this total redesign, it would be a cool storyline to see the SMX back in there and successful.
that smx is aready in another car now
The problem with mullet is that with the current setup, it was eating a ton of horsepower to overcome.
It better be a fresh one@@GameOfMorphs
@davidwelsh829 ya no scratch an dent specials lol
@@DownEastSawnothing Cleet did to that SMX was responsible for the broken crank and main caps. When Steve blew it up originally was the only event in that engine life violent enough to do that damage. If Steve had everything Magnafluxed before sending it to Cleet I would change my opinion.
Much respect CJ, glad you spoke highly of KSR's work in Mullet, you are indeed next level in Fabrication.
TT SMX is a power house perfect for the new chassis. Mullet2 for the fans, It’s a blend of new and old CJRC is a master in the craft. Love the videos
The smx , new chassis, and big tire! Let's fugin go!!
I was thinking the same thing!
Yep looks like we were all thinking same thing
SML is smaller too, would help the engine placement issue a touch
I think sml would be cool and different! Or keep the big block
@ agreed, and was my point about more engine bay room. I think it’s a super legit option for what they want to achieve from the car…honestly, I understand everyone’s nostalgia over the smx, but I think there may be no better option anywhere than the SML.
BACK TO THE SMX!! With the correct promod type chassis and the right setup, it will handle that powerhouse of an engine.
i was thinking the small SMX or put the big block back in. that will do a really nice drag and drive.
if they can build to handle the power of the SMX that was the problem.
this is not going to be a pro-mod
they aren't making Mullet a pro-mod yes it'll have a tube chassis setup but this is a beefed up street car not a pro-mod and there are loads of people with the same style setups on foxbody mustangs like McFlurry where they run partial tube chassis deals and you don't see them calling it a "pro-mod type chassis" it still gets classed as a street car
also Cleet is likely not getting the SMX again because the SMX that *was* in Mullet is going into a Camaro that Steve is having made for his wife and the engines are expensive as can be and take too much maintaining and we already saw him botch the maintenance on Eagle's hemi once plus the big block it has now is already setup for drag and drive events so would be a waste to change what already works plus that setup alone will likely run 6.10's/6.20's roughly given its PB is I believe a 6.45
Why do people keep throwing around pro mod smh 🤦♂️
agreed
Facts
i would stick the smx back
SMX all the way now..... I've been waiting for this video to come out
New SMX for the drag and drive! Echoing what everyone else in the comments is saying. Now that Mullet will be built right for it, and a big tire!
Pretty unanimous it should be the SMX.
I think the SML should go in it.
Nope.
You guys do nothing but the best Cleetus wants nothing but the best. That being said, I would love to see Steve's SMX back in that thing to keep the theme of having the best continue in the build.
Id say go back to the smx if it can lay down the power with the new chassis.
My thoughts too 🤔🤔
Same
That motor is goin in a car already
He already had the right engine. Maybe just start out with a brand new one and not a scratch & dent? He didn't have the chassis for that SMX
@ Steve could make another one for Cleet
All I can say is this... Mullet 2.0 is gonna be BAD A**! Out with old, but still keep the Mullet. 👍😎
The Steve Morris big block is pretty reliable for a drag and drive, Cleeter had good luck with it
Right? Lightened up, lowered and reconfigured it would be an even bigger monster than it is now with that big block
Of all the channels that have spawned or grown off Cletus this has to be the best one. Keeps it simple but also gets technical.
Thank you.
Put the SMX back in it. It's a no brainer
Big hats off to Kevin KSR because this car did everything it was built to do and 10x more, Kevin built a hands down amazing race car and I think to do him justice and make it right in the TH-cam world maybe reach out to see if he would like to do a weld on the car or if he would like to be in the design of something👍
You should give a "Broken Weld" counter for the car. Cleetus used the SMX for a bit, which we all know was way too strong for that car.
Idk man Kevin is pretty methodical about his work at KSR
Kevin didn’t build mullet for what it was doing.
@@torque-ej4nu He is pretty methodical, but Kevin didn't build that car to be a low 6 second car.
@@vegaswould Didn't Kevin build the car around the old bbc? Ofc the SMX would be too powerful 😂. The car did good for what it wasn't built for though
@@oldskoolkrazyKevin built the car around a 427 ls
He should put an smx back in it. I am sure you guys will make it able to handle the power!
More than likely, SMX, Steve hinted to it. 2nd guess is a billet water jacketed Noonan Hemi.
From starting as a twin engine jet car to what it is today, that poor ole girl has been a jack of all trades, master of none. It will be good to see a clean sheet intentional build from start to finish.
",, master of none" Huh?? a 6:20+ @220+mph in an El Camino might be quite "masterful" for some of our opinions 🙂
I mean mullet did win world cup..
@@quickdeuce Was it ever consistent.... NO it wasn't.
Also BBC is a super easy, reliable combo for drag and drive.
something just feels right about the big block that is in Mullet right now. Way cheaper to operate and probably better for drag and drive.
yea but there’s no way in hell it’s goin 5s with that engine in it now
It fits in a far more competitive class with the BBC
@@michaelb8772 you must not know that engine very well it’s very capable of 5000+ hp
@@michaelb8772 they don't want 5s tho, they want to be competitive in DnD events
@@Arkansasoutlaw45 try 3k, even an SMX is only about 4500 whp on a hub dyno
Tom Bailey seems to have a good drag and drive system worked out with the SMX…
KSR did the original and it was a badass. I can't wait to see what CJRC does with it. It is a very, very likeable race car!!
Would be nice to see the SMX back in Mullet and see it's full potential. People have had a lot of negative things to say about the SMX. Be nice to shut them up😢😢
It should be the smx, if it's getting built stronger and lighter and can handle the power it should be the smx, a new 1, with radiused corner main caps lol
o7 to Mullet and KSR's build. He built a hell of a rocket sled for 2 years. Sad to see it go, but excited for the future.
Kevin did a great job for what Mullet was meant to do. Cleetus just wants more from it than he originally did.
Love to see an SMX back in the car and get the car in the 5’s
SMX now your doing the frame it has more then enough power.
Why is it even a question? SMX all day! I personally feel that there’s unfinished business with Mullet and the SMX.
Smx now that he will have a car to handle it
SMX. Props to KSR and what he overcame with a freaking jet car. Need to get Steve Morris back in there.
For drive and drag a Steve Morris SML should be sufficient. Water jackets, but dry head interface with cylinder rings to keep the boost in.
Would all you hillbilly Steve Morpus fans roll away. There are far better options. No sml or smx please
I was hoping he goes with the newest SMX Steve has available. Will have to keep the turbos on it. If the turbos are not sticking out the hood maybe modify the hood to force air right to the Turbos. A ram air style dual scoops.
Mullet needs turbos up top. Those are the business in the front. He also needs the motor that was in it.
An SMX in a chassis that can handle the power would be awesome!
SMX Baby, most of the class in Drag and Drive ( the fast cars) run a SMX, he needs an up to date one not the well used one he had before.
@@JonathonDelumyea
Dunphy's engine is at Proline because they are close to him.
Bittersweet seeing this car dismantled, as I watched it being built. You guys will make it 10X better! Can’t wait to watch the build process!
Troy worked on the rocket car set up for this didn't he?
Back to the SMX! Steve has proven it's reliability, and with Cameron's chassis he will be able to put down whatever he can squeeze out of it.
How about Steve Morris' SMX with water jackets? 4500 HP Capable!!!
New SMX all the way...no scratch and dent 😂
I didn't realize I was going to be this excited to see Mullet go under the knife!!! This is gunna be amazing!!
Back to the SMX 💪🏼💪🏼
I agree, but probably won’t fit classes he wants to run.
@@mfd4505 the lock up converter really hurt too for classes... Put him against basically pro mods in the 5's which he had no chance against
Let's not forget Mullet was supposed to be a jet powered car originally and then he bagged the idea after a ton of chasis work was done to make it support thatm, which is why it weighs so much. KSR then took it over to get it to where it is now.
CJRC are classy for shooting out Kevin. Liking the content, keep up the good work.
Would love to see another Steve Morris engine in here. Just feels right.
This might be my favorite TH-cam channel. Y’all remind me a lot of waking up and watching power block on tnn/spike. But it’s not boring. Good job y’all.
wow lol power block. what a throwback
The good days forsure!! And watching family matters 😂
Wow spike tv lol
Personally I think if he’s doing big tire drag and drive with mullet, he should give the SMX another try. The SMX didn’t work for him because the chassis couldn’t handle it, so now with a proper chassis I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Steve’s wagon is not small by any means and it works because it’s got a damn good chassis.
Correct smx
Without a doubt the SMX, it’s what that is meant for.
Comment #2.....Zach died of BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA at 9:15.....
Comment #3.....Ty is freaking out, too!!!!
I mean, if he wants to do drag and drive like he was saying, putting the SMX back in it is the logical choice. Turbos needed to be down lower anyways, and the inlets should be the high beam headlight locations
SMX all the way
i think the current setup is just fine, big block turbo would be killer with a lighter car
Keep the smx. That is a bad ass motor and Steve is awesome. Genius
0:58 Screw blown Sonny Leonard 711ci Chevy Hemi
Amen brother.
There is nothing normal about that it would be way too hard to get parts for... Big cubic inch hemis are nothing but problems and a massive reason why you see people stain below 540 cubic inches in the heavy hitter racing unless it's na or nitrous
Noonan
If you’re ever gonna do rear mounted turbskies it’s when you have no room in the front and a truck bed in the back lol. I mean…just out the whole engine in the back. Wait a minute…..CLEETUS I HAVE AN IDEA!!!!
Hell nah
SMX IS THE WAY TO GO
Keep the same Steve morris big block. It does great
Billet SMX for sure!!!
nothing wrong with smx now your going to fix the chassis
I simply love the way you do cars, always true to the classic/factory way, but waaaaay faster.
Also the smx is already there and has done really well, and it can provide reliability and muscle
If it had the chassis to handle it and they maintained it properly then the smx is probably going to be the best engine choice
I'm not going to lie... I was like, Zach worked so hard on that wiring... I am glad you mentioned he OK'd the clipped removal!!
smx will do just fine
smx is the way
Cant wait to see what you make of Mullet Cameron. Dropping 500+ lbs and ride height will make a big difference. I know people are complaining about the turbos possibly getting hidden but man you make a killer product as we have seen and do what you and your team do best so if you gotta hide them then go for it. High 5. sec pass would be amazing to achieve and I think you are more than capable of reaching that.
Id love to see an SML from steve. Bring him back to his roots with an LS based design
That's a good suggestion. Wonder how much power that can make
@ pretty sure 3500+
