    What’s funny is that big tech companies will pay even more than investment banks. Right now Facebook and Amazon pay new grads around $200k
    The hours in tech are also much more normal.

      Yeah but investment banking offers more growth potential. If you stick with banking you can be racking in millions, whereas software engineers at big tech have a lower pay ceiling

    makes a lot of money but not for me. not only is it too many hours, going down that career path means that’s what you will do unless you change careers. id hate to make all this money just to not have time to spend it or enjoy any of it. my dad is a lawyer from UVA law. he also got into Upenn law. i would not go down his route after seeing how much he travels. he opened his own firm just so that he wouldn’t have to travel 300+ days a year

    • @Ivanbetancxurt
      @Ivanbetancxurt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      What are you talking about? these kids are making 100k+ a year as interns... they can stop working if they want to and just invest to expand their capital. They don't have to keep working if they don't want to lmao. Law is different. Obviously you'll stick with being a lawyer if you've already spent so much time studying it at school.

    • @johnster02
      @johnster02 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@Ivanbetancxurt i wasnt hating on their obvious success. i was saying how it wouldn’t be for me because of the hours and then gave an anecdote of personal experience. they are on a route no doubt. once you work at a law firm employers will constantly wonder why you are applying to a position outside of law as most that can stick with the law field once they are in it for the benefits and salaries. if you apply to do something else they will notice that you left and wonder why. it is surely possible to leave the industry and transition into something else. on top of that they have an amazing education in general, but many of us don’t attend ivy league schools and can’t make the transition as easily as they could. i would not go down that route, and i wouldn’t advise others to do it unless they had an obsession with wealth. money can be achieved in many ways and hopefully it can be achieved in doing something you enjoy most. some people (but not most) do not enjoy working in a law firm because of its cutthroat and competitive environment for more than a few years. this makes sense. there are plenty of industries that pay similarly but are not as fierce.

    • @Rockstarskar

      You are underestimating your self, These people who attended your Ivy League schools are no geniuses, they are normal people like you who just have goals and are dedicated. They have the right mindset. I’m telling you this because I have a friend from high school who is now studying economics at harvard, he is just a normal guy who worked hard and was dedicated to get into harvard. And you can make even more than 90k a year if you wanted to. Like I said it’s all about knowing where the money is and working hard towards it. Currently I’m majoring in computer science cause I want to learn how to code. I want to learn computer science because I want to create apps for the internet, maybe video games and sell them. Idk maybe get an internship with google and work as a software engineer for them. which I think that if I’m successful I can make a lot of money. Nowadays everyone can become a millionaire, there’s lots of ways of making money these days. If you are not a millionaire is because you don’t want to.

      @@danielcoulson8028 please read about it. Every finance job has a quota for black candidates. I’m not racist, Indians and Asians don’t have this.

      Please stop. There is no reason to post such a comment under a video like this especially when you wouldn't comment 'white privilege' if this video had all white students in it.

      @@liisamazingayye6710 yes, the video does say this. But most of these BBs, Big 4, and boutique firms primarily only take candidates from Ivies and other "target" schools with similar "prestige", with a tiny sprinkle of candidates from lower ranking schools.
      My point being, this video is kinda useless to me. If you attend an Ivy its pretty much solidifed the name of your school will open doors for you. I would be more intrigued if I saw Black students from hbcus, state schools, etc., who actually had to hustle to get in to these internships.
