My family friend went to community college, then USC, and now attends Harvard for his PhD/MD !

Ah, I went to UCLA for both my BA and PhD! I actually got into most of the Ivy's but UCLA rocks. And it happened to be the best school in my three specialties (though only people active in the field know that). One of my great friends actually did a PhD at Yale in Af Am but with Sociology. She was already a highly regarded professor of law but wanted to get that PhD.
I absolutely love her channel! Both her and the Vintage Academic have great educational related content and also campus life content. I think they’re both fantastic.

After this, usually, they already have a salary advantage over students from most other universities. The 5% is because of the huge amount of people applying making it much more competitive and difficult to enter. Universities can't just accept everyone that applies

Truth! I have my doctorate in psychology but started in community college. I needed that transitional time! No shame!
