    I am retired Navy and so is my wife. I am currently a Navy Contractor and ready to go see the world. I have one more year on this contract and then we are going to RV it. So your videos are helping me so much. We have a 2019 Jayco Seneca Super C diesel pusher and use to have a 34ft Cycolone Toy Hauler. So we have the experience but you are always learning about your rig, especially our new one. Just wanted to thank you all for all your videos and all your experiences, I love it!

    My wife has a high stress job , she's been there for 17 years and I can count the number of sick days she's taken on one hand in that 17 yr. period . I've always told her that if things get to stressful we'll sell everything and we'll go live in an RV.
    One day my wife came home and was writing something out on paper , I asked what she was doing and she said she was weighing the pros and cons of RVing. She has come home from work in tears and shaking , she has gotten hives from work related stress etc. And all for what , to pay for things we really don't need?
    So we had some yard sales to get rid of our stuff and used the money from that to buy things we'll need for the RV. Then we purchased an RV and put our house up for sale. Now our house is sold and the closing date is April 2nd , then we hit the road as Full Time RVers.
    We're going to start living life on "our terms" instead of someone else's .

      I can so relate to this!! I was also at a call center previously and had to start therapy due to the nastiness of some of the callers and we could NOT hang up! I came home in tears many times and finally Roger (my partner in crime) said..."just quit" so I did!! And here we are, going full time in about a month!! I'm so blessed and relieved!

    We started rving four years ago. Two years ago we almost went full time. Talked ourselves out of it. We came down to Florida for a couple months. Well we found our full time rig. Just purchased it and sold our smaller MH. Plan to go full time! Will be selling our house. It feels great that we made this decision! Enjoy your u tube programs. Thanks for sharing!

    A long time ago when in high school I needed a summer job so I went to work with a travelling carnival and most of us at that time lived in tents. That was in 1956 so I guess that is when I got the itch to keep travelling. I then went in the Royal Canadian Air Force where I spent the next thirty five years. When we got married in 1967 we got a tent trailer and we travelled to Florida in winter and from Saskatchewan to Nova Scotia in the summer. After our son got a little bigger, about three I built a slide in camper for my truck and we used that for a couple of years and then purchased a factory built camper and travelled a bit with that when on leave or when I had time off. Back about 1975 we acquired a 26 foot fifth wheel that was my father in laws until he passed while full timing in Florida. When I got posted to Ramstein Germany with the USAF I had to sell my fifth wheeler and truck and initially went back to a tent trailer for a while until I purchased a new VW camper. We used that until we returned to Canada in 1985. For the next few years we didn’t seem to have much time to camp so we just used my motorcycle with a tent trailer in tow. After retiring from the Air Force the owner of a Carnival heard I retired and asked me to come to work for him and I did. But first I had to have a place to live so I purchased another fifth wheel and I’ve had a couple of new ones since then and I am now in the process of purchasing a new Class A. We have been going to Florida for the past few winters but now may venture west to Arizona where a few of my wife’s friends live and I have quite a few old Air Force buddies out there in the winter. We are excited about the new class A as it will be the end of hooking up and leveling and other chores which are a little more difficult for me as I get older. Next month I will be 79 and I am looking forward to a few more years on the road, maybe. I still have a commercial drivers license and so far so good. As Roy and Dale used to say “Happy Trails until we meet again”

    Since I was about 16 years old, I have wanted to own a Class A RV. I had seen many folks traveling in those I thought .."Now that is the life.." I was nowhere financially capable of such a thing until now. After a 6 year marriage, divorce, owning a trucking business(extremely stressful) and ended up with health issues from stress and poor eating habits, I began to get stir crazy. So I moved from West Michigan to Kentucky, close to several friends who moved there. I have been here a little over a year and I am still stir crazy. I just want to be free to see the world and the great vistas that God created for us. The main reason is I truly want to be "FREE". I have finally decided that Full-Time RVing is exactly what I want to do with my life. I really have no "ties" to anything anywhere, so, why not??? Decision made. Now for the preparations. I hope to be joining the Full-Time RV Community this Spring or early Summer, God willing. I already know what RV I want so getting rid of "stuff" is my current task. This comes very easy to me as I don't own a lot of stuff. I need to finish renovations to my house, then on the market it goes. Fortunately, houses in my area sell very quickly. Then its..get rid of my vehicles and buy a new Jeep to tow. Then it's off to the races.

    How did I get into RV'ing?? Mid-life crisis. Over half of my life is over. I look back at the first half and I've accomplished a lot. Now the unwritten 2nd half is going to be adventurous.

    It is interesting that a common thread among many of these folks is that the "stuff" was either causing them to work too much or giving them stress. It seems that a lot of us have come to realize that we can experience more with less stuff. Great video.

    Hey guys! LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!! I have been binge watching them for about two days now and you're situation is very similar to ours! I am a retired Seabee and just started receiving my military retirement checks and tricare. Still driving Truck OTR but planning to fully retire in 2 years! My wife are I are AVID campers and have a permanent campsite in WISCONSIN. We plan on going "1/2 Time" RV'ing spending winters travelling in a class C and living in our permanent campsite during the summers (I'd rather have a good old MCI Motorcoach conversion but she's Afraid of being abandoned if something happens to me so..class c it is😭😢)
    The HARDEST THING to get answers to is how to do research on Domicile choices and what you need to FACTOR into your choices! I have researched FT RVing for several years now and know about escappees etc. but no one REALLY talks about the research that needs to be done and what needs to be considered BEFORE you head out! I realize every situation is unique but a general guideline would be AWESOME! I just can't seem to find any or anyone who can help us make the best decisions for our situation! Does Escapee's or anyone have people who can guide us?
    Maybe since we will summer in WISCONSIN the Domicile question isn't an issue but that plan could change as well!
    Keep rocking your vids and GO NAVY!

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your service Rick. Our SIL is a BU2 pushing boots in Great Lakes. As for the domicile question, we went with Escapees as we were already TX residents. The Motorhome Experiment (YT channel) just did a video on their change in domicile to FL....give them a peek and see if that helps. Go Navy.

    My father loved camping and spending time in nature. We would go out every other weekend and two weeks in August. I looked forward to each and every outing! When my husband and I got married, we would take off on an adventure after work on Friday. We had a 1971 Datsun pick-up (with no ac)with a shell on it. We felt so free! As time passed and we had kids, our spontaneous weekend trips turned into spontaneous day trips...sometimes a couple of hundred miles at a time. In August of 1986, we used my parents’ camper van and took our little family of 4 (kids were 7 and 1) to Yellowstone for 1 week. There, we got the dream of buying a camper (the kind that fits on top of a truck). Anyway, our dream grew! We ended up buying a 24-ft class C (very luxurious for us), we sold our house, and on July 1, 1987, took off on a 3-month adventure around the US and Canada. Everyone called us crazy, but it was and remains, the best decision we ever made! We’ve had 1 regret, though...that we didn’t do it longer! So, for the last 31 1/2 years (can’t believe how time has flown by!), we’ve had the dream to do it again, but this time for 6-12 months. This is the year! Our goal date is July 1, 2019! 🛣🙂

    You two are such a delight!
    And I want to thank you for the idea about putting the departure check list on slap bracelets, on the steering wheel! I am a new, solo, full-timer, who's a little ADD & there's a lot for one ole girl to remember. The bracelets are great, & they make me smile at how goofy they look on my steering wheel. I think of you guys everytime I go through them - so thanks for that.
    My transition to becoming a full-timer began with a near death experience (aka Wake Up Call), that caused me to realuze I was not living life, I was existing, and miserably at that. I was about to turn 65, and I decided to retire from college teaching & fulfill a long forgotten dream that I'd had as a young person, to travel the US. I had to decide not to let being single keep me from going for it, and made the decision to become a full-time nomad. I announced my decision to my adult kids, submitted my resignation and began researching and binging on TH-cam videos on the subject. After months of researching, down-sizing & dismantling my life, I used some of my retirement to buy a 24' class B+. My Pug & I moved into it just before two back to back snowstorms hit (in Seattle), and my first trial-run was to Eugene, OR, just before 15 inches of snow fell there! "Grace" (my rv), Hannah, (the Pug) & I sailed through the winter initiation with flying colors! It hasn't been without a few lessons, (do not try to parallel park on a city street in the dark, & no more drive-thrus!)! And there've been lots of little successes, (emptying my tanks in a drizzling rain on Mt. Shasta). I know there's still much to learn, and my morning prayer now includes the request that my daily lesson not be costly! But the bottom line is that I'm very much alive, mindful of my moments, and I have a happy heart!
    I love your videos, and your playful spirits. I'm now the student instead of the teacher. I sooo appreciate your willingness to talk about your mistakes, (you taught me to ALWAYS do a walk around before climbing into the driver's seat!). I look forward to one day thanking you in person for helping me take the leap and get off to a good start.
    Wishing you abundant blessings - Merritt

      I love your story! Thank you so much for sharing it with us! I love courage to not only live this life but go at it alone! You have true strength and are an inspiration to me! I do hope we meet up on the road somewhere. I would love to just sit and chat with you.
      Although, we have not had a specific event that propelled us into this life we do worry that over time Phils back/knee will decline preventing us from doing some of our favorite adventures. We also have friends who have been diagnosed with life ending diseases and we want to be sure to life our dreams now incase that is in our future. We aren't getting any younger so now is the time.
      I am so glad our videos are helpful! It really was our goal. Bless you and stay safe out there! Let us know if we are ever close enough to meet up.!

      That's been one of my big concerns as well. I'm working the numbers, and it's going to be tight, however I need to remember, there's work camping, camp host, or even volunteer in exchange for your RV space. My husband, being retired military, and myself 10 yrs military reserve,, between the two of us,,, with our experiences, surely we can come up with something,,,, if we need to. I think a lot of it for me, is just the fear of the unknown. But again that makes me fall back to that good ole military training,,, and remember WE are fearless!! If we really, really want this,, we can make it happen! I'm just doing lots of research, and preparing. We'll be sure to take advantage of the military campgrounds too,,,,they can sure save you some moolah! And your surrounded by support. You just need to reach out....Heck the community of Rv'ers, seem to offer a lot of support.... from what I can see..... Ok, back to crunching numbers:) I can't wait to get out there! God bless.

    Enjoying the series. This episode certainly has inspired us. Our plan was to hit the road full time in the next 24 to 36 months. This episode, along with other vlogs we have watched, causes us to think that 24 months is very likely more than enough time. We start a three-month course called "Entrepreneurial Boot Camp" in late March, at which we will perfect the plan for running our business from the road. Then, we will launch and ramp up the business. Once some income is flowing, we will purchase a motorhome and hit the road. Easy-peasy! (Then why is it hard to draw a breath? lol)
    Thanks for these videos. Thanks for the bloopers and outtakes at the end! Always nice to know that you are as polished as everyone else!

    Thanks for all your videos! My wife and I are about a year out from hitting the road, other than being debt free, we would love to see what others do to prepare to go full time. It seems most people take a year, and I wonder why it seems to take a year. We are stationary full timing in SD right now, but what may be different when we hit the road. Thank you!

      It takes many people much longer than a year. I think it depends on financial status, how long it takes to unload all your stuff and say goodbye to your job!! Remember quitting your job and moving are 2 of the top 5 stressors so it can take time to navigate through it.

    Lastly but the other day I went through my phone and in the notes area I found a rv plan dated in 2016 we had it planned out to 2025 to be full time in rv. And hum wow we buckled down and to date we have blown away the goals that we set. We have one more student loan left and house but that student loan was planned to be pd off in 2023 and right now it will be pd off this June. We have already don’t some cleaning out three times so far and surprise surprise we don’t miss anything we got rid of, and the cash we made off selling we applied to debt. So excited to hit the road like two to three years of what we thought.

    Awesome video and great info! My wife and I are loving your channel as we are looking to start full-time RV life in 2-3 years and doing our research. One question we can’t seem to find the answer for is how well Tricare works for those retired military full timers. More specifically is whether or not you can use Prime instead of Standard. You guys are great at explaining things and we would like to see you do a vlog regarding healthcare on the road in general with a segment on Tricare. Take care and see you on the road (eventually). That is a great question! We are prime and have not had a problem. We have to return to our home base every 6-12 months for routine care. Luckily, we have not had an emergency on the road but if we do we will call Tricare and it shouldn't be a problem. We are blessed to have Tricare and not have to spend a huge part of our budget on healthcare!

    • @oursomedayisnow3915

      Jeff Payne i’ll chime in on this. We’ve had 4 different rigs over the years. I truly don’t believe many get it right the 1st time. As life changes, needs change. We are proof of that! I know it’s very popular to get advice from us who have only been full timing for a few years and have some
      form of social media. We have a lot at Escapees North Ranch in AZ. The knowledge base is in places and people like this. For example. Our neighbor was full time for 18 years! Ya she has a clue or 2. 3 lots down from her another woman knows more about RV’s than we ever will she has had 12 rigs over the course of 35 years. We often laugh at ourselves with our 3 years of full timing thinking we know something...lol My 3 cents. i’d get on a forum talk to seasoned RV’rs. Then go to us novices for any new tech stuff, rent one if you can, buy used, be ready mentally and financially to make a change if you need to....i could go on and on. Good luck in your search. One thing for sure the RV community is awesome and there is a ton of knowledge out here! Enjoy, Tomorrow is not promised. Thus our name!

Rent one if possible (we didnt because of the crazy price) and keep doing your research. Hopefully, that will help you find your perfect RV. I was planning on being back in my home in December but I'm still in the Denver area. I'm selling 1.62 acres near Steamboat Springs, CO which will help me get a class A. My Roadtrek is working out great in the meantime. I plan on keeping my home in Steamboat as a home base as I love boondocking around there. Also my home is my art studio and I paint there when not painting on location. But, there are so many more places I want to see and paint! A friend just bought a house on 18 acres near Hotchkiss, CO, and invited me to visit and use the RV pad. He said I wouldn't want to leave, I'm afraid of that. Another friend just bought 16 acres in New Mexico and another open invitation. I love camping near Moab, Utah, and would like to do more desert boondocking. So, I just have to have all my plans fall into place and I'll be seeing you all! ML, Zanobia

We pulled out the map in the airline magazine and started marking the places on the map thinking hotel or air b&b. We kept talking about it after we got home then had the light bulb moment, a home on wheels. 3 years later we got the Airstream. I am 5 years from retirement. when we retire we plan on trying out full time. I am all for it and I am trying to convince my wife. She feels that she needs a home base to come back. so unless i can talk here out of that we will probably rent an apartment. We live on Long Island NY now and that isn't friendly for RV travel because of tolls and highways. We have been going to RV shows for a few years now and the rig I like the most is the Tiffin 33AA. it is small enough to get into the national parks. I prefer the diesel chassis to the ford F53 chassis. The question I haven't been able to get a in depth answer to is what specific criteria makes an RV manufactured for full time use verse one for weekend trips. It's usually a given that you get what you pay for. A low purchase price could be more costly in the long run if you spend more on repairs than buying the more expensive rig in the first place. from what I an see most things on an RV are not designed for full time use unless your spending over 1/2 million. The new coaches are very sophisticated with all computer controlled lighting and heating even window shades. How well does this stand up to everyday use and how costly is it to repair when it brakes. what components would I look for for full time
    Inverter/chargers
    Furnaces/ hot water heaters
    leveling jacks
    surge protection/ autoformer
    slideout mechanisms:Hydraulic/motor driven
    windows:single/double pane
    insulation in the walls and floor
    I would like to thank you for your videos they are very informative and entertaining. If you are ever in New York and would like to spend some time on long island. your rig would fit in my driveway if you would like to do a little driveway docking. We could hook you up with 30 amp, water and cable TV/ WiFi
    Thanks
    Greg & Grace Dugre'

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont think you need to spend anywhere near half a million on a rig to full time. I have met many people how spend as low as 75k (5th wheel) to 250k (entegra). And problems with the RVs travel through all brands and price ranges. The most important thing you can do for your self is have the RV inspected by professional. This includes all used or new RVs. This way you know what you are getting into and what problems may cost you money. Also, think of an RV like a house the bones are the most important part and items like inverters can be upgraded.
      Thank you for the offer to driveway surf! New York is on the list but who knows when we will get there! Good luck with your RV search.

    In watching your wonderful videos, I'm wondering more and more how people are actually financially doing this? In one of your videos, somebody said that they had thought that RVing was just for the wealthy or the retired. It seems I'm seeing a common thread that full-time RVers have online jobs and can work from anywhere. We don't have those kinds of skills (at least not that we're aware of), so that is not an option for us. But more importantly in our situation (and maybe in many other's as well), my husband has worked at the same dairy processing plant for 30 years (he is currently 56). He will draw a union pension, and, of course, the longer he works there the greater the monthly pension check will be. So, we are concerned about cutting that short and what that would mean for us when we're in our 70's or 80's - it looks to us that we would likely have to continue to work because we cut ourselves short because we wanted to live full-time RV (???). We are very happy to do many of the job opportunities you mentioned in one of your videos (my husband [and I, too] would LOVE to work as a host doing maintenance and lawn care! [Not so sure about cleaning the bathrooms, though. I've had a job where I had to clean up after other people's bathroom activities, not fun, pretty gross. 😕 🤢 😉]) Are we missing something? Is there something we're not considering?
    I feel all this goes along with my question I asked earlier about what do you do with the equity from your home to protect it while you're out RVing for a year, or 5, or 10, or . . ., and you get to a point where you have to, or want to buy sticks and bricks again - you don't want your house money to just sit there and not grow with the economy of the house market. Maybe we'll die happy while on the road, ☺️ but I can't help but think about the future and what are we doing now to get to full-time RVing that is going to hurt us later in life. Again, are we missing something? Are we not thinking outside the box? All advice is most welcome. Or, can you point us in the direction of helpful info and recourses about this? (I apologize if we haven't yet come across a video of yours at answers our questions.) Just to repeat my initial question - are full-time RVers either retired, rich, or are already established in remote jobs they can work from anywhere? Sooo appreciate you guys!!! 😍

      It is a very hard balancing act (in my humble opinion) and I think you are doing all the right things by looking deep to be prepared. It is not free by any stretch but you can live inexpensively. I am going to send you to my friends who are the financial RV people. They are also Dave Ramsey people and live debt free. They have a great book on monthly expenses while RVing and go deeper in to the cost of RV living. They are Chickery's Travels. I have a link to their book on the video. They will also talk to you via email if you have questions. Julie and Sean and amazing.

How do I convince her that we can travel to them instead of having them travel to us.? When we were young and had babies it was nice family came to us. Transporting play pens and diaperbags and baby food was a hassle. I though that would convince her but she is being stubborn. Maybe it is just fear of the unknown and she is using that as an excuse. She says that its my dream and not hers.

      It would be great to go visit them. I am not sure how to get her on board. If you are already RVing for vacation she has idea what it is all about. I wish I could help but it is something that you both really have to want to do to make it work. Good luck.

      I dont think so. The main think for us was to make sure our mail, address and insurance was taken care of. Then it was just jumping in and doing it. It seemed so daunting (boondocking especially) before we started. Now we realize its really no big deal.

    Hello! Yours is the only channel to which I've subscribed and activated the "bell" button, as my wife and I both enjoy watching your adventures (and occasional glitches!). One thing that I am curious about, and was not addressed directly in the video you did about how people finance their RV lifestyle, is dealing with leaving a home. In our case, our home is paid for (no mortgage!) so if we wanted ( and we are not at that point yet) we could sell it to help finance some time on the road. So, I'm wondering - do people sell their houses, then just invest that money and use the interest earned as additional income, or do they use it to buy a large RV, or do they just leave it in an account to grow, or what? I could also see some might buy a piece of property to set up a small "home base" where they could park the RV and use it as additional living space when not actively traveling. I would also think that some might rent/lease their houses. I think it would be a good subject to investigate.
    I am semi-retired (I still do consulting from a home office) and my wife will soon be leaving her job with the local school district, and we are looking at options. We have a 29 foot class "C", and are looking forward to more road trips. Will you folks be doing any traveling on the west coast/Pacific northwest any time soon?

      That is a great question and I wish I had thought of it for this video! I will include it in the next series. I can tell you that I have heard all the the above answers. We invested our money in a low risk account so when we decide to exit it will be there. And good thing with the market this year!!

    I am retired Navy and I am a few years away from retiring as a correctional officer. My wife and I are planning on Rving full time once I'm completely retired. My question is how much does the weather, thunderstorms mainly, effect living in an RV.

    Thanks for the great video. My husband and I have decided we are going to full time RV when he retires. One of the things I would like answered/discussed is the process of downsizing/selling home/moving into rig. Right now we have a 5 bedroom home, there are only two of us and we rarely have visitors. I want to start selling furniture in the unused bedrooms now. However, I've read online that it's better to have furniture in the rooms. I don't want to have the stress of trying to sell all that furniture once we have an offer. How did other people do it? Offer home with furniture, estate sale, sell it then pay for staging??? Curious minds want to know.

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great idea for the next series! We sold almost everything but did leave enough in the house for the size to show. For example one bedroom only had the bed and night stand while the other had a borrowed blow up mattress and headboard with our nightstand. We had bare minimum when we sold. It made is so much easier to unload!

    This may sound like an odd question to add to your future interview list, but one thing my wife and I have noticed as we have watched your channel and other RV channels, is that it seems that almost every FT RV'er has a pet, mostly dogs, and quite often those dogs are not dustmop dogs but pretty big ones. We don't have pets now; after our last dog left us, we realized that we didn't miss the mess, the noise, the hair, the vet bills, etc. associated with pets. So, I'm wondering if FT RV-ing is somehow more attractive to pet owners, or is there some other reason that people, who often have a very small RV, will also have a large dog with them?

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't speak for others but I can say for us that we already had Gizmo when we decided to hit the road. Would we get a dog if we did not have Giz already, nope! But I will add pet questions to my next series. Thanks for the suggestion

      @@todayissomeday , OK here's another interview question: As you have traveled around the country, is there a particular area where (despite where you might live now) you would consider as a great spot to live if you quit F/T RV-ing? Also, if you are ever in the Reno/Carson city area, let us know - we would love to meet you folks. I really appreciate the support and PR you give to our military. Although I am also a "puddle jumper" (USCG), one of my brothers was a submarine sailor, and one of my sisters was a Marine. We currently have a gasoline class A as a starter but are looking forward to switching to a diesel pusher for more permanent living. This was a good post.
