Agree, our dog Max misses the freedom of having his own yard. As long as he gets plenty of walks and visits to off-leash parks, he seems perfectly adjusted and happy.

I've been retired for 9 years and 7 months now and still waiting on my younger wife to retire so we can go full time.

I love this series! It’s great to hear the different opinions of all these full timers. But this one was particularly good because no one could think of too many reasons they miss their sticks and bricks. But then, I could have already bet on that! Good job y’all.

I am in a 17 foot Casita for the winter. I miss having lots of space to get dressed. That is one I hadn't thought about before I undertook this adventure. I am loving this series.
That was one of my must haves! I wanted to be able to have a little space in the bedroom to get dressed.

When I hit the road hopefully later this year what you just did here has been in my mind for a while...watching it is even better....and I mean interviewing numerous other RVers is really cool and informative.....more opinions and chances to learn! Great job! Now perhaps a video on how you pulled this off....lol.....like the resistance or eagerness for the people to be interviewed and sharing their story while knowing they are going to be "live on youtube"....lol.
I did ask a lot of people who said no way and even people who I may have freaked out a bit when I asked them to be on camera. But luckily I was able to get this many peeps to be on camera! We will see how hard it is for the next round because I would like more people who dont create content than those who do.

Possible future question suggestion: What was the reaction you received from friends and/or family when you announced you were selling your house and you were going to live full time in an RV?
I know what we missed in the past with full time on the road! Internet speed and now we will really miss it since I am running 95mbs. Still, ready to hit the road again!

We don't full time but I'd miss my huge heated garage with all the tools. I can work on the Motorhome in an enclosed space and not have to deal with rain, snow, or cold and probably have any tool I may need.

Listening to the ladies talk about missing a bath tub was funny. We have a 1927 claw foot tub, and I have never taken a bath in it. Im not a bath person. We use it as a shower and love it. This was a great video, seeing other people's perspective.
Right! I may have used our tub 1-2x per year so I dont miss that!

As far as the dogs go the struggle is very REAL!! So much dirt and sand! Great idea for the next series.
Haven't gone fulltime yet. but the times that we have traveled have been fabulous. even with some repairs on the road. I know that I won't miss sticks and bricks. One benefit of being in an RV is cleaning the entire interior from front to back in less than an hour.

Thanks for the question opportunity. When you travel away from your rig on a vacation or for other reasons where do you store your rig and toad, and how do you securely prepare them, inside and out while away.
Great question. We stored our rig plugged in with friends when we took a trip to Europe and our car was at our Uncles house.
I can tell you what I won't miss.
Barking dogs! I live right across from a police officer who is a K-9 unit ( drug enforcement ). Her K-9 dog barks non-stop as does her other dogs. To add to the problem she also does dog rescues , so Animal control brings her dogs to "Baby sit" until they find a home for them. We also had a family move in right next door to the officer who has 4 dogs who also bark non-stop.
This was a nice quiet neighborhood , now it sounds like a Dog Kennel. You can't even open your windows ( spring - summer and fall ) on nice days to get fresh air in your house because of the constant noise from the dogs barking.

I lived in an RV for 2 years and I moved out and came to sticks and bricks and I've been lonely for the road ever since but I'm working on it
I remember meeting the guy in the blue Teton 🧢 hat at burger place at nomad fest!! Nice guy! Funny!! 😃
Having a shop to work in. Not a problem for a Navy man than can use them on base but, I don't have that option.
UPDATE: Now we’ve got almost 6 months of RV life under our belt. And still, besides people, there’s nothing significant that we miss. Maybe little conveniences but the freedom and benefits of full-time travel have dramatically improved our quality of life. And the great people we’re meeting and friends we’re making are icing on the cake !!

Good info in this. My Dad wanted to sell the house and travel in an RV, but my Mom was adamant that she wanted a "home base" to come back to. They did a lot of camping and such, but never went beyond that. I found that I identified with the guys in the video - I don't like yard work! I would miss my shop, and I also would want decent internet access, but I think I could very easily adapt to F/T RV-ing. However, I know that my wife would still want a "home base". We don't have kids or grand-kids near us, so that is not a problem as far as selling our house and hitting the road. I suppose for us, the people we would miss the most would be our local church family - we have known some of them for more than 30 years. Which prompts another interview question! How many are/were regular church attenders before going F/T, and if so, what do you do when on the road?

We'll only miss Family. We're Blessed to be surrounded by our Children and Grandchildren, and we're leaving! But we'll come back and visit every few months.

At the beginning did Phil say Crafty questions or Crappy questions? LOL! My question would be....Residential or traditional Gas/Electric RV refrigerator? Pros-Cons. Best for boondocking? And access to the internet on the road. Thx!!
Since the most common complaint, or missed amenity, seems to be a good internet connection, how about asking everyone how they hooked up to the worldwide net, and what they use to do this. There seems to be so many different options out there. It's very confusing to the average person (which I think I am, my wife might disagree) as to how some of those tech devices work along with cell phones connected to hot spots and all the other tech gear everyone chooses to use. Taking into account, traveling coast to coast. ??? Love your show.
I think I would miss the tub but, like was mentioned an occasional hotel/motel would do.
You could get a RV with a bath tub! My friend has a toy hauler with a small tub (Donna, in the series). She loves it.

Hi, Phil & Stacy. I wanted to ask a question about washing your coach, in my case 5th Wheel and doing minor/routine maintenance. My experience is that most campgrounds don’t want you washing the rig at the campground, and doing minor repairs/maintenance. Where do these chores get accomplished? Tx!
You can do minor repairs on the RV in most campgrounds. We have done quite a few things. And as long as you are not in a tiny town there are repair companies that will come out to you for minor repairs which is allowed by campgrounds. As far as washing the RV it has been 50/50. The campgrounds usually don't want you to use that much water and some will let you wash it but charge a fee (around $10).

Haha I don't think you'll be up here to montana to interview me at least until spring, so I'm safe :-) Hmm I'm thinking I should put in a bath house for all the RVers coming up to Glacier Park. I went over to Clarksville TN then over to Greenville Tn in an RV. I loved it. I didn't stay on base in Clarksville but they do have a nice RV park.
You might be safe for a few months anyway! TN has a lot of really nice parks with wide spaces and greenery everywhere. We love that area.
@@todayissomeday I really liked it. In Clarksville we went to Dunbar cave. It was pretty cool although disappointed the cave is closed, and the amount of poisness snakes. We don't have them. Thankfully we didn't see any of them. Then in Greenville we saw Davey Crockett boyhood home. Really cool. Enjoy you're travels.

In your last video you mentioned a check list of everything you wanted in the RV. Could you publish a generic list so those of us that don't have any experience with living in an RV might have a baseline to start working on our own list. We are still 5 years away from going full time and I think I would like to do a lot of boondocking rather than being shoe horned into a campground where your neighbor is only feet away but since I have not done any of that yet I don't know. It might be the best way to meet new people. I know I want to be able to stay in National and State parks so my overall length should be under 35 feet. I think if we Boondock we should have large water and waste tanks so we will not run out of water to quickly. I like the aquahot systems but i think they are either in rigs that are too long or out of our price range. we like the Tiffin 33AA and where wondering what your likes and dislikes are. any recommendations for someone purchasing one used. keep the videos coming they are very helpful to us perspective newbees. Here's a question- Have you ever regretted not having more vehicle fuel? (You had to buy more expensive fuel or fuel you didn't trust) And what size fuel tank do you have?
We have a 100 gal diesel tank. We have never been low on fuel. We have purchased diesel at a high price than we would have liked!
That is an interesting question, we went on the road as a test after retirement for about 4 months. I don’t think that I missed much, maybe having reliable internet, but I can probably, eventually give that up. But I will say that what I expected was to meet new people, make friends, but our first 3 months Oct-Dec we went from state park to state park and to my amazement most of the parks we stayed at were empty, we did chat a bit here and there but no big connections it was kind of a let down, so we said ok let’s head south to South Padre Island and we stayed there for a month Christmas and New Years and all of Jan. Folks would wave stop and say hi asked where we are from, when we said Texas they would say oh, did not travel far did ya! And they would move on, it seemed that Canadian kind of hung out with Canadians and had their get together most people that visited this area have been coming for the last 20 years so they all know each other but are not quick to be inclusive. I have been at parks before we decided to go long stays and met folks that we where like long lost friends, but the last 4 months had been a let down in that respect. We still own our home, I am retired Air Force and have also retired a second time form another Job, but we are still kicking the can about full time. It is great to see others having such a great time and making memories, hopefully that will be us one day.
I recommend you guys try some kind of bash or rally. We met many of our lifelong friends at Nomadfest and the Annual Bash. I agree it can be hard at parks to do more than surface talk and feel like a lone RVer but dont give up! There are many people out there just like you thinking the same thing.

Suggested topic: I've seen several videos alluding to some kind of connection between the gray and black tanks, and using the former to flush the latter. However, it's only been mentioned in passing, and I don't understand how that works; i.e., if there's some kind of connection between the two, that would seem to be a potential problem area for backflows or something.
Can you please explain this system in greater detail than I've been able to find?

We can discuss it in future videos. But just so you know the tanks are not connected just the spout to empty them. If you empty the black tank first the grey water will clean out anything left in the hose from the black.
Question, do you prefer boondocking or staying in parks? albeit RV resorts, state parks, or National Parks, Monuments etc. You seem to go to parks is that because of no solar?
We love boondocking and we just hit a RV park after 30 days boondocking. We were just figuring it all out and had to be places in the beginning. We will be boondocking more if places are available over an RV park.
I never hear any RVer's discuss the amount of weight they are loading their RV's with. I can understand worrying about the towing capacity of their rig and the car's they want to haul, but what about the strain on the engine, chassis, brakes and tires. I recall hearing a dealer discussing how overloading it led to more tire blowouts, brake problems etc. A question to ask would be....Did RVer's obsess about the weight of all their stuff when they started out and keep that in the back of their minds since i hear everyone ooo and ahhhh about all the storage space they see when they tour the RV shows. Storage space is nice, but that's just more weight to haul.
We talk weights all the time: who is over, under, who is over the tow rate etc. I think that is a great question to add to our next series! It is so important to know your weights and make sure you are under for your safety and the safety of others.
We are hitting the road soon, I'm looking so forward to all the daytime adventures & travel but we are wondering about how our nights will change compared to living in a home. Are you more social, less social, go out at night more or less since you are now in an RV? Are the ladies fearful leaving the rig in the dark? I'm going to be afraid to walk the dogs at night. I'm going to miss the fenced in yard!
Everyone is different as far as their adventures. We do much more outside than before and I am way more social with strangers than before. I have never been afraid to walk outside in the dark by myself and that includes at rest stops.
We have installed motion sensor lights on three sides of our RV. They are very inexpensive and stick on easily. They can be turned off if you think they might disturb very close neighbors. Always carry a flashlight with you when you walk at night. If you are really fearful, wear a whistle somewhere so you can easily get to it. That should scare any animals away and get the attention of other people. It's best not to go too far from your rig at night especially in an unfamiliar area or wooded area without someone else with you. Just my opinion. As for the topic that was discussed, I don't miss my house at all. I do miss my few pieces of furniture and pretty decor that I STILL store in a storage facility back where we lived. I would like to know where the majority of the big rig people stay most of the time? How often do they boondock?
Great question! I can tell you we have boondocked for the past month with 7 other RVs. There was a 21 ft trailer, our 35 ft MH and 5 other 5ers and MHs much longer than ours (up to 44 ft). We all loved it and as a matter of fact the 40 ft MH just arrived at a new boondocking site. We have found that we can boondock just as easy as the little guys. This question is coming up in the current series.

Here's a question for full timers: Do you still shop at Costco? We're thinking of a Class C 26 footer and with such a small `fridge/freezer, it doesn't seem like I would be able to stock up on my staples as I would in my 'sticks&bricks', such as meats and paper products. What say y'all?
We dont have a membership but many of our friends do in many different size rigs. The amount of stocking up may change but savings wont.

@@todayissomeday We are aiming for it in the next 8-10 years beeing here in Iceland it´s more tricky we want a 5th wheeler and a truck and that would put us back 350-400 thousand dollars if bought new and the aim is to just travel europe for the rest of our lives you inspire us and so do the other sticks and bricks free people

I would miss my work space which I have now that I have not had before other than that I don't know, my wife would miss the tub I don't know what it is with women and tubs. I don't like taking baths in dirty water nothing better than a shower in my opinion. I like being in one place so if we did the full time thing we would like to stay in an area for at least a month before moving someplace different. I guess the question I would have is what determines where you make your state of residence do you keep it in the state you lived or do you change it?
People choose their residency based on a number of things: taxes, mail service companies, cost to register the RV and much more. We kept Texas as our state of residence and use Escapers for mail and home address.
I would think I would miss my garage and wood working tools. But then I have other hobbies that travel easier 😁
I had to sell most of my tools and the garage which I loved! There is nothing more relaxing than creating something from scraps of wood! But this new life has changed my outlook on life and was totally worth it!
Unlimited hot water bathtubs would be the only thing I would miss.

Was it ever an option for you to keep your home (or downsize your home) and be in the RV say 7-8 months per year? (Question for your fellow RVer's)
At this point my thoughts are to keep our home, start taking longer and longer trips in the RV, staying in places where we might want to live eventually, then sell our home and downsize to a different location. Maybe we keep the RV maybe we dont. Depends on life circumstances. Does this sound like what you've heard from others?
David Reyburn this is similar to the plan I’m contemplating. I’m looking to full time RVers to see how comfortable and happy they are living in their RVs, especially those who have been out there a year or more. Ideally I will rent my San Diego house out for a year while I adventure and explore places where I could be happy, a place where I could pay cash for a less expensive house. Until I find that I’m reluctant to give up the house I have. But could I be comfortable vacating my house for a whole year to live in a 24 foot RV?
There are people who RV more than 6 months at a time who still have their home to go back to. The beauty of this life is there are not rules. You RV whatever way works best for you!
Do what works best for you. Nothing wrong with testing it out first!
Our plan is to downsize our home a bit but also spend many months RVing. I need a home base for my husband, myself and our blended family. I also love hosting/entertaining for holidays and other celebrations.
They make pedal extensions for motor homes, there is no excuse not to learn to drive it
Next question: If you have to do it over again, would you purchase the same RV/brand/size?

Not for the RV. No room to store it, its way to heavy and we wouldn't be able to change it anyway.
Comment: Giving up our home is tough, although we do plan on leaving in May to begin our journey. My wife is concerned; what happens if we are living on the road and one of us gets seriously ill. She has been self employed as a Hair Dresser and has had several clients that sold everything, bought a expensive Class-A only to have the husband come down with cancer and the wife cannot drive the 40' RV. He is in a hospital while she is stranded in an RV she can't drive. Bad situation. As people age the likelihood someone will contract a serious health issues. Not everyone can suddenly go out to buy another home after selling to invest several hundred thousand in a RV, Fifth wheel, Super-C or whatever. It happens more often than most people realize.
Every adult in the RV should know how to drive it at least a short distance. If they pay that much for an RV, they should be able to hire one of the many companies that offer to drive RV's across the country. I think it's a mistake to spend so much on an RV. I guess I just have a frugal mentality. Some people have installed lift steps to help them with mobility. Some hospitals will let people park in a back parking lot if a spouse is in the hospital. I think the best idea is to not buy a rig any bigger than you absolutely need. However, I would not full time without towing a car or following behind the RV in my small car. We love to drive around and look at the old buildings, go to the beach, etc. when we get to a different area.
You are right you cant predict the future and people do get sick on the road. But that is why we are doing it now and not later! But that being said we also did not put our equity from the sale of our house into our RV. We saved separately for that so if we need an exit plan due to health we have the money set aside. This is why I recommend people plan for this life and not just put every penny into the RV. Save and have an emergency fund.
I think a good question to ask some real full time RVers is.. If your spouse is not into the full time RV indea, how do you get them onboard?

Most people return to their home base for routine health care every 6 -12 months.
Nope - I wouldn't miss a bathtub either. Long hot showers on leg shaving day, sigh, I'm gonna miss those 😒 Edit: I thought of a question. What is the maximum # of miles you will drive per day (or maximum # of hours driving per day) that you prefer for your travel days? (this is for 'general' travel days - not for the one off's where you realize that you have to go across the country in 3 days to make it to an event - I'm looking at you Phil and Stacy and rushing to Pennsylvania - lol)

Like your videos and bloopers but not a big fan of interview videos. Seems like everyone’s doing the same thing. Interviews or others RV tours. I myself find it more interesting when showing different areas and places. Ik you can’t make everyone happy.
