As a retired trucker one of the things I looked forward to during my 40 year and over 5 million mile career was becoming a full-time RVer. Having the travel bug all my life I couldn't wait to own an RV and travel. After traveling the highways looking at RVs going down the road, sharing the roads, rest areas, travel plazas and literally thousands of conversations with people that were having fun and enjoying life on the highway I couldn't wait. I've now been a full-time RVer for a couple years and can only hope that I can continue to enjoy good health and happiness on the road. It was always my experience that truckers and RVer's not only shared the road but the life on the road in many ways and I always looked forward to meeting new folks and learning about their lives and experiences. Travel on I think that truckers and RVer's are the safest people on the road that truly have respect for each other and their way of life.
Being a retired truck driver and newbie RVer, please don't sit in front of the gas pump line for more than 10-15 minutes. If you need more time inside the store, go park and walk inside. Like your nephew and his wife stated, when I was a trucker, I never had an issue with RVers. We both understand that what it takes to drive these long heavy vehicles. Cars don't understand what it takes to stop these large trucks. That's why I believe RVers and truckers respect each other and try to accommodate each other.
We've always respected truck drivers. We flash our lights to let them know when it is safe to pull back in our lane when passing us. They almost always blink their lights in appreciation. - Jim & Michelle
We full time in an RV big rig and I’ve been concerned that truckers might be less than happy to see us sometimes. It’s great to learn more about their time restraints and what it’s like for them to be on the road. We have a great respect for truckers and appreciate this perspective. Just one request from this RVer…. when my husband flashes his lights to assure a safe move into our lane, please remember to flash back. It makes his day. :)
Year's ago I drove over the road, at that time flash to pass was the rule, today it seems to have gone away, my motor home is equipped with a flash switch, I've all but given up using it, no response from passing trucks.
@@4knanapapa A lot of the major companies tell their drivers not to communicate with lights because it's an insurance requirement now. If someone claims that any flashing lights from a truck caused them confusion and to get in an accident then the trucker and/or company can be legally ruled partially or fully at fault for the accident. I know some people mistake the "thank you" flash for the hazards.
We are RV transporters. So we are a mix of both. We pull RVs but we have to follow hours of service rules, so we have the same rest requirements as truck drivers. We have found that it is a toss up for parking at night. A lot of truck stops have rv parking out front which is nice.. if we can fit. We utilize the amenities quite often at truckstops, because there are not many commercial rv places to use. We don’t sleep or use the RVs we pull, so the showers and laundry etc are very helpful to us. I drove over the road and drove / operated heavy wreckers for years. We really enjoy what we do now because we have way more flexibility than an over the road driver does as far as length of time working, and we can chose where we want to go. There are ups and downs again any industry or profession, but we love it.
@@liketheresnotomorrow Well that would be perfect because I so miss you guys!! I've had big fun being introduced to your channel now (*peak me subscribin') and catching up on your videos. You and Uncle Barry are great on here! In regards to your boondocking video, you know where there's tons of BLM land?? Nevada! :)
A truck driver for 30 years, downsized to a hot shot F450 dually with 120 gallon aux tank and aftermarket 50 gallon tank under the truck. Used a 52 ft gooseneck, nope you can't get into a gas station! So, I had to use truck stops. Truckers really hated it even though I had a CDL, DOT # IFTA stickers and could fuel from both sides, pumping 150-170 gallons of diesel, not as much as some big rigs. Iowa 80 was always a must stop. While most truck stops had my 19.5 tires they don't work on small trucks. Some were OK with me dropping the trailer to go get my oil changed. My traveling days are done, now I sit home and watch You tube videos. Be safe out there.
I started driving trucks in 1977 and have just retired. I have never had any problems with RVers. In fact everyone I have ever had interactions with were very friendly and if they were in the way ie blocking fuel lane all I had to do was ask and explain I was in a hurry they were quick to move. I would rather deal with them than some of the truck drivers.
Congrats on your retirement. In the 70's I loved the cabovers. I will guess what you started out driving, and you tell me if I'm correct. So, I would say you started in a late 1960's International cabover, day cab, single axle, spring ride, doing more local runs, maybe some regional. Over the last 30 or so years, when I've guessed what people started out driving, I've been correct about 75% of the time. However, I have no problem if I'm wrong, it's just fun for me to guess.
@je862 you are partially right. I bout a 1962 Freightliner with a 250 Cummings. Twin screw. I hauled mostly cows but I did have access to a hopper bottom and hauled corn when cows were slow. Trucking was still regulated at the time so I was leased to companies that had permits. That all changed later when trucking was deregulation. But thanks for trying.
Been a driver for 14 years, Use the laundry anytime you want, if you are going to shower at the truck stop try if possible to use them during non peak hours. 6-8 am and after 5pm. The majority of company drivers max out their hours, that means 11 hours driving 14 hour work day and then a 10 hour break is required. For a driver, maxing hours that 10-hour break is dinner, shower, sleep, breakfast, walking the dog, sleep, etc. Waiting that extra 30 minutes for a shower can sometimes be painful. Biggest issue I've had vith RVers is one tried to back into a spot and backed into the hood of my truck with that in mind I would say my opinion of RV's parking in the truck area of truckstops is biased. I would hope that RVs would use truckstops as a last option, we are at a time where there is a serious parking shortage for trucks. For your info, all drivers are now on electronic logs, (gone are the days of cheating looking for parking) Our Hours Can work 14 hours a day (once the clock starts it cannot be stopped without a 10 hour break) Can Drive 11 hours within that 14 Must take a 30 minute break within 8 hours (this break can be a mixture of on duty and off duty which is why sometimes people finish theirs on the fuel island) Must take a 10 hour break for all clocks to reset
There's also the 70 hour clock! That one used to creep up on me often as a company driver. Not so much as an OO now that I have more control over my time and work and usually no longer run as hard. It's a limit of 70 hours a week, and if it's low then that's your time for both driving and on duty not driving, no matter what the daily clocks say. Only way to reset it is to take a 34 hour break. If not then you get "recaps," which is time back for however many hours you worked in a single day 7 days ago. If that's only 4 hours for whatever reason, then you have 4 hours to do whatever you need to do that day.
And most people do have an interest in what the other side does. When I was still a kid at home, our family was travelling cross country and my dad, having grown up on a farm, pulled into this big farm a little before dark and asked the farmer if we could park there for the night. The farmer's response was, "Sure, with one condition. After you get settled in, I want to come out and look your outfit over." Then he and my dad talked about the RV and of course about farming.
That was awesome. I have been to Iowa 80. but hearing from the trucker's that was good and reading many of the comments. I try to be as respectful as possible to trucker, so good to hear they don't hate us. :). Thank you. Safe Travels.
Came across this a bit late, but... I'm a retired OTR driver. My wife and I started delivering new RV's all over the country w/our pickup truck. We had to adhere to all DOT regulations. Weight restrictions, logged hours, cross scales, class C licence etc. Some of the RV's are as tall and wide as a semi trailer. (in fact we need permits for OVER width in certain state's) We get harassed all the time by truck driver's who get upset that I fuel and park w/the trucks. That's my experience. JS 🤷♂️ PS. I've been stopping at Iowa 80 since I rode w/my dad in his semi back in the late 70's. IT'S AWESOME. The evaluation of it is as equally awesome. 😁
I’m on my 5th and smallest rv. What I have noticed and try to remember is in parking in a rest area is not to pull completely to the front of space, especially if you are in a short rig. I’ve pulled in and see what appears to be an empty space only to find a small rig or U-Haul pulled up to front, you can’t always back up safely. Also it leaves room for the truck to your right to swing out without fear of hitting you. My observations.
I’ve been to Iowa 80. When I was trucking I had a bad toothache so dispatch routed me there. I’m not a fan of dentist but this was a good experience. Loved the shops especially the chrome shop.
I definitely respect and learn from the truckers, I give them room to move on the road and let them move. I’ve seen some truckers get a little over confident and follow a little to close at times. But other than that. Ain’t no problems here. I do have to say that if you’re a full time RVer in a large rig and you generate your income from RVING YOU have just as much right to spaces and truck stops as the truckers. That being said, Truckers are regulated, over regulated, and need to take breaks, and park. Due to that, I always do my best not to interfere with truckers. Besides I definitely take more breaks on the road than a trucker ever would. They are working. I am not. My wife gets mad at me when I use the hand signal for the horn when we pass a truck and she is driving. I taught my grandkids that as well. lol. Drives her crazy.
i got tired of replacing the rotating air vent every time i hit a tree branch, so i designed a protective bracket that goes over the vent that pushes the branches over the vent. It doesn't prevent the vent from turning and i have not had to replace it since installing this shroud.
When I had my 40’ pusher had tons of great conversations at the fuel pumps with truckers. Now have a Pleasureway van and the gas pumps aren’t near as much fun. LOL
We have had a motorhome for 10 years. I have the most respect for them. I always offer food to the truckers around us if we are eating, if i see them. I think sone grab a quick nap. I have heard truckers dont like RVers, but we have never encountered that. They are always so nice.
I work for the company currently known as conway, The CCX cabover that I saw in your video. We are now known as XPO, it's been a long ride for this long. Hopefully my fellow drivers at XPO give you the courtesy that you deserve on the big road,
Truck driver from 45 years, RVer for 15. I’m good to truckers. I don’t hang beside them when passing and will flash my lights if they pass me. If the highway is real busy I just get into the rocking chair( right lane) and take it easy .
Respect and patience - I think those are critical on the road, and if we can all remember and live those two attributes, the whole world would be a better place.
That’s cool I just left Freeburg Illinois border of st.Louis Missouri delivered some parts to a gas rig up there had a good trip other than it rained so hard a few times couldn’t see to drive with wipers on high!!
Never had a problem with rv parking in truck stops. Yes when it are couple 20 foot pull behind and all park next to each other I can understand why others get mad but the times I saw it they where ok with parking two in a spot. now rving with a 44 foot rv stopping in all those places that I always wanted to stop but never had the time to do. Iowa 80 is great but Davenport ia is a great place to visite too. Old and new close together
My biggest issue... headlights, if you tow please adjust your headlights while hooked to your rig.. when you put weight on the back of your tow vehicle it points the light right into my windshield... we both will benefit if you do
We don’t usually stop either but this one seemed worth it, plus with the trucker connection with our niece and nephew, we just had to stop. They were so cool to make that video for us. Thought it was interesting.
If you are traveling and you are hauling a travel trailer behind a truck / suv or a class c or a rv if you can park in a different parking spot do it if you have a trailer park in truck parking just do put slides out
Thank you, thank you great truck stop. I heard about this truck stop but never knew how big it was or all the things it has (like Wal Drugs). Your truckers interview was great. I will try to talk to more truckers as they say it can get lonly.❤❤❤👍👍👍🥰
This is a great video. I’m planning a trip to Utah from New England in August. We’ve never stayed overnight in a restaurant area or truck stop before but I plan on spending a night in the RV lot at that Truck stop. Wish me luck.
Unless they (Trucker) owns the truck stop I am at then they are just a customer like me and their opinion is just that...an option. When I pull into the truck fuel lane I fill up pull forward when completed go in get my receipt and then get out of there. We love the Love's Truck Stops because they generally are clean and are all the same inside.
I am an independent with two trucks, and I drive one of them. Personally, I don't have a problem with anyone that can manage to act right. Mainly just do me a solid and stay out of my way. Easy peasy. There's really two issues that cover a lot of the negatives. 1. Entitled drivers no matter what they're driving or where. Selfish and act like they are the only person on the planet using the left lane, the fuel island, truck stop parking, etc. Guaranteed to touch a nerve for everyone around them, not just truckers. 2. The featured truck stop, as well as the nephew and wife, and where they were at, are basically unicorns. Two of the greatest truck stops in the nation, and clearly two of the nicest, well spoken drivers you'd ever run into LOL. Reality is: most commercial drivers are focused on work and not happy people, a combination of not wanting to be there and strict time pressures subject to delay by practically anything. That said, regardless of how happy or not, most drivers are good people who will answer any question or help out if they can, if you just ask. I also haul a 34' travel trailer with a diesel pickup. I use the truck islands so I can get the discount on my fleet fuel cards. And, do not take any longer than when I fuel the semi. Pull up when I'm done, run in the store to pee and get a receipt, then move out. If I need fast food or an extended break, I'll grab a parking spot there if it's not busy, or go somewhere else if it is. Most truck stops have designated RV spaces in/near the car parking somewhere. If you need that, ask at the fuel desk and they'll give you direction if it's an option. I would never park the camper at a truck stop or rest area among semis longer than a lunch break. Those places are nasty, noisy, and stink. There's too many other better options for an RV.
We drive a 40 ft diesel pusher with a silverado pickup in tow, we rarely stop a truck stops instead opting for regular gas stations, mostly because of the price difference often up to $.75 per gallon. We do our best to not impede truckers and stay out of areas they need to park their trucks.
I am a truck driver with two and a half million miles under my belt. Do you know what I think when I see an RV I'll be honest with you I wish I would be in the RV
I'm A truck driver Park in the truck stop All you want Just watch where you put your slides out if you are in a rest area Park where in the parking spot where The sign says trucks with trailers please no truckers out here own The truck stops or rest area parking
We feel safer parking with the trucks than in RV designated areas since 4 wheelers invariably invade those spaces and generally do not understand or respect the size and weight of large rigs. That is why most rest stops separate out the 4 wheelers. Whether it is an 80,000 pound semi or a 40,000 lb diesel pusher class A, have witnessed what we now term, 4 wheeler madness. New owners of large diesel pusher RVs can do well by observing tractor trailer driving habits as far as hill climbing & descending, spacing, truck stop etiquette (pull to the line after fueling - no more than 15 min.), etc. Stay safe.
I would like to add… I have an issue with RVs…. Sometimes too many will pass us like we are standing still!! Be RVers since 1993, and people who are new drive way too fast putting everyone in danger. A speeding swaying TT nearly totaled us once! And then cut off a big rig🤯 With our 26’TT & 2500 Ram longbed crew cab we take it a bit more carefully.
I have a good sized rv. Other than getting fuel don't spend much time at truck stops. On the road I do my best to give trucks all the room they need. Most truckers seem to show courtesy towards me. Sometimes it seems if you give them courtesy I usually rather run on the highway with trucks than cars. Even tho I'm not a semi they realize I'm pretty good size and need room as well.
Truckers, don't take your 30-minute break at the pump, fill up and find a parking spot, not at or around the fuel island. Been over the road driver for over 38 years. RV's sometimes can be an issue, but most are polite and interesting. CB slang for a RVer is portable toilet
As a trucker. The east coast is hard to find parking . So we're rvs are parked in spots we can't. And we have to abide by federal regulations so is hurts us and puts us in difficult situations.
How do you get the car on and off of the truck? I haven't seen you use the car in your videos and it would be nice if you had a video where you use the car?
49 years OTR driver here, stay out of the truck areas.RVs can park alot of areas and people dont care, my ELD clicks over the limit and i can be fined up to 6 months later! most RVs travel alright compared to the 70s but just stay out of the parking areas.
I have the advantage of being a truck driver for 20yrs, until I had to retire because of a failed back surgery. Now I have a trailer for me and the wife to travel a bit. So I know Both sides of this. I know truckstop manners and stay out of the truck parking areas if at all possible Because I know Truckers need all the spots to take their rest periods. when I was driving trucks I never really had any issues with RVs.
Like you said you haven't done this long, i have 8 years in single old woman driver. When one of you cant drive the other can. When my clock is out and i pull in to a truck stop and an Rv is there I'm pretty angry. They don't have a clock to answer to and they wont loose their lively hood from a big ticket. There are many places for Rvers.
Due to the limited parking ...please don't take-up truck parking spots. We can't drive any further down the road because of log book limits. Plus ..the way some drivers drive and back up do you really want to put your rig in arms way?
I’ve driven for 38 yrs and I wouldn’t suggest any rv to park in a truck stop unless you want it backed into. I don’t want to park in one. Some of the truckers are inconsiderate of others.
We never overnight at a rest stop or truckstop. I run 65 and should a trucker pass me at 66 I slow down and let him pass me. I always stay in campgrounds for the night
There are people behaving poorly across the spectrum. There are (obviously) truckers that are rv'ers. There are truckers who tailgate but whine at parties about how long it takes to stop a rig, use their vehicles as weapons and use inappropriate travel lanes. Rv operators, for the most part, don't have rigs capable of traveling at the speed the operator is cruising it. They can be unaware of swing, off-tracking and drift. As a former trucker and current rv'er, almost all negative truck experiences were in NYC, I figured that they were bordering on insanity in that hub! For the most part, the road is friendly and the people decent and helpful. The bad ones are just so outrageous!
Being a truck driver for 3/4 of my life RV is the last thing on my mind 😂😂 And like the truck drivers stop taking a break in the fuel island. Do your log somewhere else? Driver.
Just don't open slide outs, you're going to lose them probably since you'll be too wide for your spot. Personally though knowing most drivers today really suck I'd stay away unless it's a stop that has set aside spots for RVs, most good NAV systems will tell you if they have that option.
A single bad experience can affect you. I was pulling a travel trailer across the country, and we stopped at a rest area for a break during the middle of the day. So happens to be a truck at that stop hauling a wind turbin blade. At the time, I thought it was the coolest thing to be up close and personal. I never walked up to the truck, nor did I walk around it. Just looked at it where I was parked. A driver from another truck, parked next to the wind turbin truck, got out and yelled, "What the f#&k you looking at? You got a problem?". I was dumbfounded, I didn't know what to say.
Barry’s band was called Reverend Barry and the Funk youtube.com/@reverendbarrythefunk?si=-78UFdazcMj29jSm (He’s not an actual reverend btw. Maybe he’ll tell that story one of these days:-)
Please don’t take your 30 in the fuel island. Fuel, run in and get your receipt it necessary and go park if you need more time. I’ve been on the road 20 years, I’ve noticed that RVers have no clue what we deal with. We are not on vacation so please fuel and move and try not to take up our spaces to park as we don’t have as many options as you. Also, use your cruise control, it drives us nuts when you speed up and slow down. Most of us are governed to a certain speed so we are not trying to pass you slowly, please slow down and let us by, god forbid I blow a steer tire while trying to pass you.
Thanks so much for your input. It’s always great to open those lines of communication. Do know that there are many rvers who live and travel full time, not on vacation. But do know most rvers respect semi drivers and will always put them first. Not all.. but many will,
I had one bad experience with a dangerous truck driver and 5 with RV drivers. For instance, I saw a trucker who illegally and dangerously was missing their turn, and since they were, they pulled right in front of a car, almost smashing it. The trucker should have just stayed in their lane on the highway and turned around on the next off ramp. Which by the way was about 2 miles away if that. The RV drivers who were dangerous. One pulled in front of me from the left turning lane onto a straight left lane. Almost hit me. The others were on rainy days. Hogging both lanes so no one can pass. Merging into you when you are passing them. So they seem to be just as bad of drivers as rental truck drivers. It is only the RV drivers who drive them a lot trailer and truckers who are the safe ones.
Did the team drivers really suggest that a driver is supposed to take there 30 minute break in the fuel island. If that is what he was saying he is wrong. You are not supposed to be taking your 30 min break in a fuel island. You are supposed to get your fuel pull forward. Go in use the bathroom get your fuel receipt and get out of the way so the next guy can do his thing. I’m both a full time rver and an owner operator. There is nothing more irritating then someone taking 30 in a fuel island.
To clarify...We see truckers taking 30 min breaks in fuel lanes daily. Very irritating as this should not be happening. They should fuel, go in and use restroom, then DOT crawl to find a spot if they need more time!
He did say if you see a trucker sitting in front of you at a gas station, he might need 4, 5, 8, 10 minutes to finish his government mandated break. jcraw you are correct. He takes 30min breaks in the fuel island. This Rv couple is wrong! Btw, i am a trucker.
RV's have their time and place. As a truck driver ( who understands that we don't have near enough legal parking for rigs ), I get pretty bent out of shape seeing someone on vacation plugging up places that tractor trailers should be parked. IMHO, it is pretty selfish of those on vacation to take up parking places that truck drivers legally need. If you want to go camping, then do so. When it is bed time please make sure that you aren't camping where tractor trailers need to be parked. To place some blame equally where it is deserved: If you are one of those drivers who leaves their equipment at the local truck stop when you go home, YOU ARE PART OF THE PARKING PROBLEM! It is real simple, you are either a part of the answer or your part of the problem. There is no gray area there what so ever.
I wouldn't care about RVs in truck stops if there were 10 spots for every truck instead of 10 trucks for every spot. On the interstate RVs are often in the way, but we can get around you. It's the 2-lanes driving 10 to 20 under the speed limit. It's a challenge to pass, and while the RV is just enjoying the sites you're screwing with our clocks. I say this last summer, and to be honest, if they didn't get messed with, I'd be shocked. The back into a truck stop, and pulled all the slides out, taking up two spots. Then they dropped the camper and parked their pickup in a 3rd spot. 30 years ago, that would have guaranteed cut valve stems.
There are the uneducated rvers and there are the living full time in the road rvers who really try to respect the trucks and all that they go through, that’s the reason for this video. We try and educate but you can’t reach everyone. We appreciate your input. Always good to hear from actual truckers.
Back in my day in the 70s truckers were professional and courteous drivers. Now it’s a majority of third world country drivers who can barely drive a truck at best and have no regard for speed limits or human life for that matter. Just watch when 18 wheelers fly past you at 80 miles an hour in traffic. The smell of urine in the rest areas with trash strewn all over the place, tells the story of where we are at today with truck drivers. Personally, I could care less what they think of RVs.
I have been trucking 36 years . DO NOT TAKE YOUR BREAK AT THE FUEL PUMPS !!!!! It is rude and very inconsiderate to other truckers who just need fuel an go and not to home stead .
36 years otr trucker with 5 million plus accident free miles. I don’t have a problem with rvs. Me and wife take our fifth wheel out a few times in the summer. Stay safe out there
So here's a driver that takes his 30 minute breaks at fuel pumps?? What about the drivers behind you who don't need a break and need to roll now they're stuck behind you because you're taking your break at the fuel island?? So you're just being inconsiderate??
No it’s not ok Professional D.O.T regulated heavy Truck drivers are regulated to get their sleep and trucks are coming and going all the time they are not on same schedule you can not take one spot from these drivers it’s rude it’s frustrating for these professional drivers most are on electronic logs and they need their sleep and when they arrive it may take them some time to safely back In time is not on their side you have to understand truck drivers have a parking crisis in this country they cannot leagley Safely park those big rigs anywhere I was a driver and just can’t justify taking a parking spot from them not even for five minutes
I agree that RV’s should not park at the truckstop unless absolutely necessary. With that being said, truckers aren’t the only one having trouble finding places to park at night. Campsites are becoming harder and harder to find plus the price has gone up so much some places want 70 and $80 just to park somewhere overnight. Whether, it is a trucker or a RVer they both need a place to park so they can rest. It is not safe for either to be out on the road driving when they are tired. So sometimes if absolutely necessary and RV needs to park at a truckstop, but should do everything possible not to cause problems for the truckers.
@@rhondatravelingirlsc8015 we are out here to provide everything rv'ers have. Majority are on vacation. Truck stops were built for truckers. Rv can go to walmart, cracker barrel, cabellas etc etc alot of places are free also. Without us there wouldn't be any of those free spots. Most rv's have showers, kitchens and food. Truckers have none of that. I've had to go without food before because of the parking crisis ,have you?
One lives in a home One lives in a truck One lives in a tent One lives in a log cabin One unfortunately lives on the streets!! We are all from planet earth 🌏 🌍 🌎 Lets get along!!! 🙏 please
RV traveler's be careful at rest stops Some, not all truckers are assholes Left Chicago burbs. Stopped overnight in rest area. Pissed off a trucker for were I was parked. He pulled the safety pin on my hitch. Down the road after 2 hrs the hitch , in a construction area, And raining. The trailer finally let go. Was able to barely get it to the Side of the highway. Took me over an hour to get it hooked up again. Could have been much much worse. Always lock your hitch pins. There are some real assholes out there.
stop taking your 30 min break at the pumps it is rude to the truck be hind you and is a noob move. go park your truck in a spot. use "yard move" to go park. 27 years of truck driving here.

Beautiful comment. Love this so much
Same for truck drivers and rv'ers
Being a retired truck driver and newbie RVer, please don't sit in front of the gas pump line for more than 10-15 minutes. If you need more time inside the store, go park and walk inside. Indeed. Thanks for the reminder.
Absolutely. Get your gas and move. Don't tie up the pump.
As a trucker, all I ask is if your camper or van is small enough to park with the cars please do. If not, park along with us. 😊
Yes! 100%
As a trucker as well yes definitely!
I’d much rather drive with a 100 trucks than with 10 cars! Thanks to our truckers…they deliver everything we use everyday!
Thanks to the trucking couple for sharing thier insights.
They are the salt of the earth kinda folks. For sure
@@liketheresnotomorrow It was great to hear from them!

Agreed
Retired trucker and now RV'ER - As a trucker I never had a problem with RVS
Glad to hear!
Right on!
Year's ago I drove over the road, at that time flash to pass was the rule, today it seems to have gone away, my motor home is equipped with a flash switch, I've all but given up using it, no response from passing trucks.
@@4knanapapa 😢😔
@@4knanapapa A lot of the major companies tell their drivers not to communicate with lights because it's an insurance requirement now. If someone claims that any flashing lights from a truck caused them confusion and to get in an accident then the trucker and/or company can be legally ruled partially or fully at fault for the accident. I know some people mistake the "thank you" flash for the hazards.
@@CurbHopper111 thanks for the update, a sad testimonial to the state of the world today.
That was a blast to watch! Well done, Uncle Barry and Aunt Darlene and Jabo and Anna! I loved it and smiles so much 🥰 I love and miss you all!!
Whitney!!!! We so miss you! Gonna try again to get up to your neck of the woods.
And we thank you for watching our video. Thanks for sharing.
ahhhh we hate hotshots because i might take 2 or 3 of those loads together and make some money.not someone taking 1 partial with a pick-up.
Thanks for sharing. Glad to hear it
Congrats on your retirement.
@@KevinYandell-v9u Ha! Thanks for engaging me, it's always fun. Good story! And once again, congrats on your retirement.
For your info, all drivers are now on electronic logs, (gone are the days of cheating looking for parking)
Our Hours
Can work 14 hours a day (once the clock starts it cannot be stopped without a 10 hour break)
Can Drive 11 hours within that 14
Must take a 30 minute break within 8 hours (this break can be a mixture of on duty and off duty which is why sometimes people finish theirs on the fuel island)
Must take a 10 hour break for all clocks to reset
Thanks so much for sharing. Really appreciate the info for us rvers
JS 🤷♂️
PS. I've been stopping at Iowa 80 since I rode w/my dad in his semi back in the late 70's. IT'S AWESOME. The evaluation of it is as equally awesome. 😁
Thanks so much.
We have seen that happen to smaller rigs as well. Usually regular cars parking in front of a rig and causing some awkward situations for pulling out.
I’ve been to Iowa 80. When I was trucking I had a bad toothache so dispatch routed me there. I’m not a fan of dentist but this was a good experience. Loved the shops especially the chrome shop.
Good to know. We were so surprise to see a dentist there. Iowa 80 was a fun stop
For sure
I (Darlene) was a back of the station wagon semi arm signal champion in my day! lol Thanks so much for watching.
i got tired of replacing the rotating air vent every time i hit a tree branch, so i designed a protective bracket that goes over the vent that pushes the branches over the vent. It doesn't prevent the vent from turning and i have not had to replace it since installing this shroud.
Great idea
Thanks Y'all and your people, great information on this subject here..
Hopefully my fellow drivers at XPO give you the courtesy that you deserve on the big road,
The Iowa 80 truck stop is a definite stop and see and the restaurant is fantastic, ive been there many times as a truck driver
It was so fun
Owned and operated big trucks for 40+ years. Now a 5th wheel RVer. More issues with many (read not all) of todays truckers than RVers!
I stopped at the Iowa 80 truck stop a few days ago on my way to Minnesota.
The Newphew and Wife truckers were at Kenly-95 truckstop in Kenly NC -95 exit 107. Our sticks and bricks is 8 miles from there. :).
Small world. Love us some NC!
Truck driver from 45 years, RVer for 15. I’m good to truckers. I don’t hang beside them when passing and will flash my lights if they pass me. If the highway is real busy I just get into the rocking chair( right lane) and take it easy .
100%
Respect and patience - I think those are critical on the road, and if we can all remember and live those two attributes, the whole world would be a better place.
Best post of the day!
I'm glad yall caught the vent issue.
Great video!
Thanks! There’s always something. #rvlife
That’s cool I just left Freeburg Illinois border of st.Louis Missouri delivered some parts to a gas rig up there had a good trip other than it rained so hard a few times couldn’t see to drive with wipers on high!!
My husband is a retired UPS,,semi driver,,now we're full-time rvers..he goes out of his way to be courteous to them
Me too
Never had a problem with rv parking in truck stops.
My biggest issue... headlights, if you tow please adjust your headlights while hooked to your rig.. when you put weight on the back of your tow vehicle it points the light right into my windshield... we both will benefit if you do
Good to know. Thanks for sharing this.
What a fun video! We drove right past that truck stop on our way to SD last year. I was so disappointed that we didn’t have time to stop.
We don’t usually stop either but this one seemed worth it, plus with the trucker connection with our niece and nephew, we just had to stop. They were so cool to make that video for us. Thought it was interesting.
Awesome pair of truckers, good job.
We stayed overnight there when we left the Alliance rally. It wasn’t too bad. We took the end spot for the RVs. We’ve stayed at louder Harvest Hosts.
Good to know! Thx
You are welcome!
This is a great video. I’m planning a trip to Utah from New England in August. We’ve never stayed overnight in a restaurant area or truck stop before but I plan on spending a night in the RV lot at that Truck stop. Wish me luck.
Let us know how it goes. Iowa 80 has that separate Rv parking so it’s a great option. Park as far away from the road as you can
Unless they (Trucker) owns the truck stop I am at then they are just a customer like me and their opinion is just that...an option.
Great insights. Thank you so much for sharing.

@@liketheresnotomorrow you are welcome it's called first come first serve
And then cut off a big rig🤯
With our 26’TT & 2500 Ram longbed crew cab we take it a bit more carefully.
Yikes. I can see that. We’ve seen people going way too fast as well. We generally never go over 65
I'm a full time RVer. The ones I see most consistently driving too fast with an RV are the transporters.
I never had no problems with Rv’ers Parking is unreal for RV’s & Trucks.
Great info here.

I have a good sized rv. Other than getting fuel don't spend much time at truck stops. On the road I do my best to give trucks all the room they need. Most truckers seem to show courtesy towards me. Sometimes it seems if you give them courtesy
I usually rather run on the highway with trucks than cars. Even tho I'm not a semi they realize I'm pretty good size and need room as well.
Us too. We never would consider over-nighting at a truck stop. We just get fuel and go.
Truckers, don't take your 30-minute break at the pump, fill up and find a parking spot, not at or around the fuel island. Been over the road driver for over 38 years. RV's sometimes can be an issue, but most are polite and interesting. CB slang for a RVer is portable toilet
Ha! Portable toilet. That’s great. Thanks for your insights.
As a trucker. The east coast is hard to find parking . So we're rvs are parked in spots we can't. And we have to abide by federal regulations so is hurts us and puts us in difficult situations.
Indeed. Thanks for sharing
How do you get the car on and off of the truck? I haven't seen you use the car in your videos and it would be nice if you had a video where you use the car?
We don’t have a car. Just a dually pulling a toy hauler
Great folks!!

49 years OTR driver here, stay out of the truck areas.RVs can park alot of areas and people dont care, my ELD clicks over the limit and i can be fined up to 6 months later! most RVs travel alright compared to the 70s but just stay out of the parking areas.
That’s about like Buccee beavers almost except they are trucker friendly!!
Wow really nice Truck stop ❤
I have the advantage of being a truck driver for 20yrs, until I had to retire because of a failed back surgery. Now I have a trailer for me and the wife to travel a bit. So I know Both sides of this. I know truckstop manners and stay out of the truck parking areas if at all possible Because I know Truckers need all the spots to take their rest periods. when I was driving trucks I never really had any issues with RVs.
Thanks so much for your thoughts on this. Appreciate ya
Rvs need to vacate rest areas when they are full to make space for rigs that have to park by law
Great advice. Thank you.
Being a truck driver for 3/4 of my life
RV is the last thing on my mind 😂😂
And like the truck drivers stop taking a break in the fuel island.
Hope that helps 😉
Me too. Thanks again
Was that a KYD sticker? ❤
Yup. Insider here.

I am a trucker too
Please don’t take your 30 in the fuel island.
Not all.. but many will,
@@liketheresnotomorrow yes I know, there is good and bad in everyone. Appreciate the comeback.
Nope. He said 4-10 min at the pump. He never said 30 at a pump
@@liketheresnotomorrow i think he said 4-8 to go,pump your fuel in 6 min. and go park and get your 30
To clarify...We see truckers taking 30 min breaks in fuel lanes daily.
@@milerunner469 nononono i can log on duty and pump 100 gals. in 6 minutes.dont be anywhere near a pump for a 30 minute break!
I-90 is the longest interstate HWY in the USA
❤❤❤❤👍
No.... as a trucker you do NOT take your 30 minute break at the pump. Go find a spot and park. Dont care if you "have 10 mins left"!
It’s A TA/Truckstops of America
Back in my day in the 70s truckers were professional and courteous drivers. Now it’s a majority of third world country drivers who can barely drive a truck at best and have no regard for speed limits or human life for that matter. Just watch when 18 wheelers fly past you at 80 miles an hour in traffic. The smell of urine in the rest areas with trash strewn all over the place, tells the story of where we are at today with truck drivers. Personally, I could care less what they think of RVs.
Howdy Y’A.
truckers speak at 17:00.
You can use everything, just don't park in a truck spot,we have not enough parking as it is that's all.
900 truck stops and only 20 rv spots, come on man
Humans just got to be nice to each other, we all live in different ways!
Enjoy your life and quit your bitchen!!!❤❤❤
I have been trucking 36 years . DO NOT TAKE YOUR BREAK AT THE FUEL PUMPS !!!!! It is rude and very inconsiderate to other truckers who just need fuel an go and not to home stead .
Thanks for your input. Always good to hear from the truckers themselves.
36 years otr trucker with 5 million plus accident free miles. I don’t have a problem with rvs. Me and wife take our fifth wheel out a few times in the summer. Stay safe out there
You too!
Thanks for your insights. Appreciate the insider perspective.
They can park there if they want to we all pay taxes!!
@@Calvin-m5nno one asked your opinion. The video is about what truckers think about rvers lol

RV traveler's be careful at rest stops
Some, not all truckers are assholes
Left Chicago burbs.
Yikes. So sorry that happened to you.
stop taking your 30 min break at the pumps it is rude to the truck be hind you and is a noob move. go park your truck in a spot. use "yard move" to go park. 27 years of truck driving here.
