We just wing it most of the time. Of course we are in a popup but it is a high wall pup.. Still the first year we went out for 4 1/2 months and we only had 5 places picked and 3 of them without reservations. Of course we fit in a 35' campsite with a 27' camper. Of those 5 we knew we were going there to. But we knew camping sites were going to be available . Thanks for the fun video. Prior to 2020 COVID my year was booked out a year plus in advance as the events & shows that I sell at often require payment a year in advance. Currently I plan as few as a month in advance. I prefer the longer term plans with the ability to visit with friends. With my catering sales licensing & inspections in new areas are cumbersome.

My wife and I just do vacation and long weekends. We always try to reserve a spot on Friday/Saturday nights because those are the times most likely to fill up. On the road, we estimate our travel time as 50 miles per hour when allowing for quick rest breaks, meals , etc. Then, we research what is available within the range we want to accomplish - usually 300-400 miles on longer trips.

Philz planning techniques - 1-800-StacyPlans - squirrel! Sounds like most, but not all folks have ended up 'winging' it except for heavily booked seasonal campgrounds or events - squirrel! - which is sort of what we do. Hubby is like Philz, so long as he knows he has an end goal for the day - squirrel! - he's good to go. Looking forward to more squirrels - er, the next series. Safe travels! 🐿️ 🐿️ 🐿️

There are some really nice places here in FL. And you will want reservations but there are some nice boondocking spots as well but they’re far from the city/tourist places. Really depends on what you’re looking for. Here in Pinellas County, there is a nice county park that is right on the water- Fort De Soto.

We usually have way points as well (not a lot) and then fill in as we go. Usually we are booked 1-2 weeks in advance and many times can pick up cancellations in that time frame. This week we booked David Crockett state park for 4 nights just 4 days ago as well as a 4 night stop in Crossville TN. Also we picked up a cancellation at a local recreation park in the Knoxville area for 10 nights (need to see my doc in the area for some tests).

Hi, Phil and Stacey: We have thoroughly enjoyed your series and look forward to the next. We are in the process of retiring or at least slowing down our work and spending time on the road although probably not becoming full timers. We do have family and friends on both coasts, live in the northeast and would like to spend some winter in the south. Hearing about various approaches to scheduling and back-up plans is helpful. Perhaps this is a little off point but I've watched a number of videos of folks who have a great social networks and seem to enjoy this lifestyle. I've also seen a bunch of videos by people who seem to have grown weary of the uncertain, nomadic, life style or are just roaming aimlessly. So I'd like to hear you ask the various interviewees a question of where do they see themselves in 3-5 years from now. I know everyone has their own way of doing it and most of us have an adventurous spirit. While there is no accounting for difficulties or health issues, do most people see this as a 3-5 year right of passage or perhaps longer. And if they have already done 3-5 years have they changed their goals again? Thanks and look forward to more You Tubes series. All the best.

We have a idea of where we're going and what we want to see but only book on that day as we get close usually. The only advance bookings we do is when friends have booked a place and we want to spend a few days at the same place/time or we know it's a high traffic time. Smokey Mts in Oct for instance we have booked. We went to Alaska and back to Maryland without planning any stops other than Sturgis and found some of the most beautiful stops.

I think that geographically you can wing it especially west of the Mississippi River. But east, it takes more diligence to pre-plan. And I mean, six months in advance..Eastern RV sites are more expensive than the west, so you have to really commit to your schedule. For us, we live in Virginia and travel this side of the Mississippi. We pre-plan (especially when we travel for months and weekends and holidays are the worst for booking) and then life gets in the way, we have had to cancel and forfeit a lot of money. There is no easy answer! We have family and grandkids on the east side and we give it our best shot knowing that we will have to adapt. Family and grandkids tell us, "You are retired, Come and see Us! So life gets in the way.

I am OCD about planning, sorta. The sorta is e leave "wiggle" room in our schedule so, if we want to spend extra time or have a mechanical issue, we're OK. We also have left a park early because it turned out to be a dump. With a 45 ft DP towing a 20 ft trailer, so finding a place that's big enough is not as easy as those with smaller set-ups. My wife is also a planner.

I'm with Phil... Teresa does the planning...then I get into the details. I use spreadsheets for time and distance. We typically reserve most destinations 9 months out.. if you don't, things get filled up out here in Oregon and the PNW.
For our big trip in June we have planned everything and prepaid each stop so there is little flexibility, we (I) would like to be able to be more flexible, that will come once Teresa retires also and we have the time to add flexibility into the plan ... I hope.

Video idea? I don’t know if it would make for a good video idea or not, but curious what most RV’ers do out there for TV? What is available? Dish, Direct TV, satellite, or people just stream what they want from an internet connection or data plan? What would work best for Boondocking locations? Not sure what other questions there should be, Thanks!

WING IT BABY! We really like Harvest Hosts except we usually stay at a winery which can be a downfall if you expect to save money. Well for me it is, I cannot pass up a good bottle of wine. So when we stay at participating Harvest Hosts it probably costs us three times the amount if we would have just stayed at an rv park. Though My wife and I would just rather wing it, though sometimes we have to plan depending on the season. But as part timers we just mostly wing it!

I tried to find a way to message you through your Instagram using my computer to be a little bit more private and personal (easier to type, too =) ), but I couldn't figure it out. I also looked for a website, but did not find one. My husband and I have really enjoyed your series as well as all your personal videos. You mentioned that you have all your questions lined up for your next series, but I wondered if I could make some suggestions for your 3rd series, or maybe you two would wont to address these yourself. =)
You mentioned in one (or several) of your videos that, although you have no regrets for selling it all and going full time, there were a lot of emotions going on, at least at first. We would love for you to elaborate on this topic!
Another topic that we are wondering about as we have been watching your series (and trying to decide what size rig do we need) is why did you choose the size RV that you did and how does that effect your daily life and travels. We saw in one of the videos in your series that (at least) one couple sized DOWN. I also noticed that one of the couples lives in a pretty small pull behind trailer. (We also noticed that both of these couples are really pretty young =) .) It seems (as best as we can tell by watching and not being there) that the 'older' couples have pretty big rigs. We wonder if the couples with the smaller rigs are on the go more and if the couples with the larger rigs are in one place longer? (I know this is all speculation.) We would love to know why each couple chose the size rig they did, how big/small it is, and how that effects their travel and daily lifestyle. For us, to hear each couple talk about '30 days in our full-time RVing life' would be very interesting!
Thank you so much for all your gathering, sharing, help, and time!

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Those are very good questions for our RVers.
Most of the people we know choose size based on how they plan to RV. The young couple (Matt and Diana) chose their rig based on their primary goal of hitting all the National Parks. So they need to be smaller to fit. Most people think they need a ton of space coming from a house but as we learn to live within the small space we learn we can go smaller.
Make sure you list all the things you plan to do in/with the RV: work, national parks, watch TV (Phils requirement), lay on the couch (my requirement). Whatever is important to you needs to be able to happen in your new house on wheels!
