      Same here. I was overly excited after watching Man Of Steel, and i had no one to talk to. So I went to TH-cam to watch the usual movie reviewers Jeremy Jahns, SchmoesKnow, and Chris Stuckman to see what they thought of the movie. I still felt the need to watch other reviews. That's how i ended up finding this video and the channel. Ever since then, I've followed the crew on their projects. Especially Jon Schnepp's work

      Alba Lopez funny, because that's exactly how and why I found it. I had to find people who could articulate what I'd seen. I connected immediately with Campea and Schnepp because of their review for MoS. I'm going to miss his opinions and reviews, but especially the energy and enthusiasm he carried.

    *Old school Superman does not work nowadays. "Man of Steel" is what Superman needed.*
    Btw MoS Superman is Badass.

    • @Ellie_deMayo

      Oldschool Superman does work just look at Daredevil or Captain America. People like them and they're the old school do-gooder.

    • @enockblastermatt9611
      @enockblastermatt9611 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      btpbtpbtp by old school Sups, I mean the cliché Superman. The Boy Scout. The new generation needed a new Superman. Today people like Captain america and Daredevil because the story took a more serious tone.

    • @Ellie_deMayo
      @Ellie_deMayo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Enock Blaster Matt Yeah, But Captain America is a Boyscout! Daredevil is such a good little Christian boy! They're such goody two shoes that you want to smack them in the head.
      When Captain America was asked, "Do you want to kill Nazis?" His response was, "I don't to kill. I just don't like bullies." And he was so sincere and honest about it! When asked "How are we going to stop the next invasion?" his response, "Together." Optimism! Captain America is so corny, cheesy and he's such a cliche that I swear he would turn to the camera and say "Remember kids stay in school."
      And there stories are as serious as Magic Zombie Ninjas and 1950's Brain-in-a-Computer technology would allow.

      btpbtpbtp you're right, they're super heroes so they are good guys. But in order to make a good superman movie, they had to change a him a little.
      It would've been boring to do the same Superman we know and saw a hundred times over. Don't u think ?

    • @LALakersforLife
      @LALakersforLife 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +btpbtpbtp The fundamental difference between Supes and Cap is that Cap wasn't always a super soldier. Superman always had superpowers. Man of Steel, imo, did a fantastic job of bringing human emotion to Supes just like Cap America: TFA did to Cap.

    Clarke Wolfe was clearly affected by this movie, that's what movies are supposed to do. It sounds like she doesn't like to be affected and or conflicted by a movie/Superman. I love the fact that we have a superhero movie that people will argue about. After the Avengers, all I did was high five everyone, it was amazing but didn't have any deep layers.

  • @Thaheadband33
    @Thaheadband33 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Clarke's opinion is exactly what Campea said: people are judging it based on what they expected it to be rather than what it is. And that's fine if that's what they want to do, but it's not very fair.

    I've watched this movie like 20 times already and I love it to pieces..! John is right when he said that it was Zod, the terraforming machines as well as the US army with all their jets and bombs going haywire because of the terraforming machines altering gravity that destroyed Metropolis and not Kal. Most of the time it's like Zod kicks Supes and he goes crashing into a building, I mean you can't help when someone so powerful kicks you and you just stand straight over there. Also in the Smallville action sequence, it was the other giant Kryptonian that threw all those engines and destroyed the area, although I know Kal actually broke the oil refinery, but it was actually the first time he was allowed to use his power, the anger which was building for so long inside him, when someone threatened his mother it all came pouring out and that sequence was freakin EPIC..!
    The only thing I didn't understand was why was Louis Lane asked by Zod to come aboard the ship. It made no sense.

    • @blackrock316
      @blackrock316 10 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      The reason why they ask Lois Lane to come aboard the ship because they want to know what she knows, if she knows where the codex is because she the one that knows who he is.

    • @skotmongoose
      @skotmongoose 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reason why Zod asked Louis to come on board was because he wanted to mentally interrogate her the same way he did to Superman. Even after Superman goes after her in the pod that's crashing to Earth, Louis says something to the extent of "I'm sorry he got inside my mind..." and Superman said "it's okay, he did the same thing to me"

      ***** Yes, I am a fan because it was a great movie, and it didn't deserve the bad ratings that it actually got, and I seriously don't understand all the criticism about the destruction. When two gods fight, what did you expect would happen..?

      I think comic books years ago have really screwed up Superman. Because of that, it was very hard back then to make a really good Superman Story. I don't think Superman is a dark character, I saw a character struggling to fit in the world because of who he is. Its a movie that we have never seen before. Touches on issues that Donner's Superman movie never touched on before. I like it when Superman doesn't talk a lot, Just keep it simple.

    just watched this film on blu-ray and its like the 15th time i'm watching this film, but before this movie and all the trailers i never cared about superman,i was a 90's kid so there wasn't much superman going around.
    but this film was amazing in every way, and now superman is one of fav comic book characters and in this film they really hit home the idea of what superman is and what he should embody which i found really inspiring, this was a great way to introduce superman to a new generation kinda like me and everyone else, making superman cool again

    The girl in the tank-top is a buffoon with some of her ridiculous reasoning. She needs to take off that stupid, tacky, cheap-looking necklace and throw it in the trash. Also, they never touched on the absurd way in which Jonathan Kent died. THAT he died was ok, but the situation in which he did was just poorly written because he really easily could have been saved AND had Clark's secret kept at the same time.

    How good would it be in the end of Man of Steel, after Superman snaps Zod's neck; After Kal-El screams he stares at his trembling hands, terrified not that he killed someone, but because he lost control. How easy it was. Lois comes to console him, he shoots up in the air and Superman goes missing for months after putting himself in exile somewhere on earth because he feels guilt. The city blames him for trashing everything in the fight. And you see Lex funding the rebuilding of Metropolis, along with his business partner, Bruce Wayne (Ben Afleck reveal), Kal-El somewhere in exile meeting up with Amazons, amazed by this God of a man. And the movie ends. Something like that. I think that would be so awesome. But thats just me.

      i think MoS is hands down, the best superman movie out so far. the christopher reeves superman was good, but it never showed super man's raw power. with MoS showing superman's power to an extent shown more than the previous movies? now when he holds back in the sequels, people have an idea of how much superman will be holding back.
      people say MoS is not good cos he wrecks so much dmg around him, this is the first time superman has fought some one on his power level, some one who was trained in the military, superman is not going to be able to make sure all the buildings around him are going to be intact lol.
      BUT! i do agree that we didnt need the tentacle thing lol.... god knows what snyder was thinking :D

    • @zesalamel22
      @zesalamel22 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      xyr3s If they go that direction with the sequel, then great. But if they choose to ignore the implications of the needless destruction that occurred in MoS, then I think it's a misrepresentation of the character. My problem isn't the destruction per say, it's the scale and reaction or lack there of from said Superman.

    • @xyr3s
      @xyr3s 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i think the sequel will take off from where mos ended, lex will step in to donate millions to the reconstruction of metropolis. he will be like "thank god for superman we are saved, even though he caused so much collateral damage, which i will help repair even though it's not my fault at all". which would make lex look like a good samaritan while slightly undermining MoS. or at least something along those lines :p

      Chris Littleton read ur comics sir, superman killed 3 kryptonians from another dimension. They had laid waste to that dimensions earth killed every human and vowed to do the same to supermans earth, after superman used their kryptonite to render them powerless, they swore they would get their powers back and kill everyone . Superman being put in that position decided to use another color kryptonite to kill them. So superman has killed.
      The end.

      Chris Littleton Also.. What do you think happened at the end of Superman 2 when Non, Ersa, and Zod fell, was pushed and dropped into the icy depths of the Fortress of Solitude? Heck, they had no powers; so they were even more defenseless than Zod in MOS. One could say that Donner's Superman was even more cruel. Not to mention when Superman goes back and beats the crap out of the trucker in the café? People that don't think Superman will kill, don't know Superman.

    Wolfe's diatribe on Johnathan Kent's message to Clark is all wrong.
    His life lesson was not "Hide who you are forever and I'll die to reinforce that."
    It was "I love you soo much, I'd die to keep you safe from anything and everything- including alienation from the entire human race."
    This supports the Can I or Can I not trust humanity? message, in that of all the evidence presented to him throughout his life, Johnathan Kent's self sacrifice is the deciding factor.

    • @Ren_Davis0531
      @Ren_Davis0531 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I disagree. I personally felt that Jonathan's character was thrown under the bus. I can see what they were going for but Jonathan came off like a guy who didn't care whether his kid was a positive or negative change just that he would be a change. Even when I divorce myself from my prior knowledge of the character, I still come away thinking that he has a shallow characterization and is just there to spout an idea rather than be a character. And this is not coming from someone who dislikes the film because it's different. I came out liking the film and Jonathan, but as time went on it and I thought about it the film and after multiple rewatches the film fell apart for me.

      +Nate B-Pro I find it funny how people say it's DC it will be dark. They aren't that dark. In fact they are the lighter of the two franchises in the comics. Most of their films have been lighter. I think Superman should be light. It was best said by Patton Oswald "It only works if Batman is the only dark brooding one".

    • @CRAZYGUNDAMOTAKU
      @CRAZYGUNDAMOTAKU 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +dragonrings14 There's a high difference between "dark and brooding" and "serious with character conflicts and real consequences", MoS wasn't dark at all it was a serious take on the character with issues that play a huge part in that character's life physically and mentally.

    • @dragonrings14
      @dragonrings14 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      CRAZYGUNDAMOTAKU Did I say that MoS was dark? I also don't think the things that happened in MoS were very serious or realistic. But none of that matters because it wasn't a happy film. There weren't moments where you felt uplifted and that there was hope for humanity. That is what Superman should be and they failed to deliver that. Instead they gave us a depressing backstory, a brooding adult and a plot where not a single lesson is learnt. As a kid who was worried that being found out would lead to the world fearing him maybe the best thing to do is not destroy an entire city and murder people in cold blood. Sure he saved the day but now people are going to hate and fear him more than ever. He is meant to be the smartest person on the planet... He should have figured that one out.

    • @CRAZYGUNDAMOTAKU
      @CRAZYGUNDAMOTAKU 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      dragonrings14 Actually you did but moreso I was responding to the remark you quoted.As far as the happy uplifting etc goes it wasn't meant to be any of that especially on the first day of the character where he wasn't even technically Superman yet.It's called an "origin story" for a reason and even comicbook Superman (which I read alot of) wasn't always a symbol that ppl aspired to be which would include Superman himself, that's what he eventually became though.Btw to clarify he wasn't worried about being "found out" his parents were, Clark's struggle is moreso of a morality one and one about finding his place in the world.He didn't murder or destroy a city nor is he the smartest person or the planet either and his origin IS a depressing one, his body may be kryptonian but mentally he's very much human and even if he's looked to as a god he's not (read some comics and clear those misconceptions).

    “It’s the most controversial thing in the movie,” legendary Warner Bros. animator Bruce Timm said when a fan asked what he thought of the controversial ending to 'Man of Steel' at the New York Comic-Con. He says that when he first saw the script he knew that it would be controversial, but he didn't know how much outcry there would be. “I don’t really have a problem with it. I actually thought it worked.” He added, “I understand that Superman has to have that no killing policy, even though I think it’s outdated.” The amount of destruction during the climax is definitely the most controversial/debated topic surrounding the movie. Many fans were torn. Some fans are okay with the amount of destruction, while it bothered others. “It didn't bug me either,” longtime Superman group editor Mike Carlin told the fan. “We actually did something similar in the comic books. My only problem with it is that if Superman was going to kill General Zod, why he didn’t do it sooner before a couple city blocks were destroyed.” The story in the comics he is referring to is Exile in Space. In the story-arc, the murder of Zod was followed by a long tale about the consequences-what killing someone meant for Superman, what it did to him, and how people reacted to a Superman who was willing to kill. “I’m still trying to figure out what those people were still doing in the train station with the whole city being destroyed,” joked DC Co-Publisher Dan DiDio. Later Bruce Timm said, “It seemed like a really, fresh modern interpretation of Superman. That was my big takeaway from the movie.

    In the Christopher Reeve film, Superman realizes the destruction they made, so he conceded and ran away for the sake of the innocents. MOS simply just didn't care... he just killed Zod because danger to innocents was pretty much shoved in his face. That's why the 70s film is so much better. That one had something MOS didn't have.... HEART.

My friend said "it makes it more difficult to buy he cares for these 4 while he was completely oblivious who might get hurt while fighting. In Superman II his heart was THE key element, and it would've been nice to see that at the most crucial moment, it would've given more layer to the character to keep that key element.

    I remember when the whole ending was done when he just randomly got a job at daily planet and people were mad because they couldnt understand how he got a job at a respectable newspaper without job history or a degree but people tend to forget, there was a 16 year time gap from when his dad died, and when he was on the ship, he could have gone to school and worked on the farm to honor his father's memory, then two years prior to the start of the film he went on his journey of self discovery and used an invesitgative journalism background to stay hidden while he was searching, and meeting Lois Lane inspired him to use the daily planet as his cover, and to be closer to Lois.

    People complain that Superman is a power fantasy. That he's a boy scout, that he's not realistic in it's approach to how a world should be affected by Kryptonian invaders. This Superman is none of those. Above all I felt this world went for realism of the powers of Superman and Krypton if they came to Earth. It wouldn't be a guy blowing over a truck. Superman might have moral fiber and leave the city so theres no damage to it but that doesn't mean Zod wouldn't just level the city for him being a pussy.
    This isn't comic book Superman, it's not 70/80's Superman. Its a 'what if'. What if, these people with these powers we idolize actually came to our planet to fight a civil war. it's an excellent **ALTERNATIVE** take of Superman. Seriously. I emphasize alternative. It's not the start and end of the comic books people have grew up on, but it is a fairly realistic view of the dream we had. Apparently people just preferred the dream to the reality. That's the real power fantasy,

So many points I want to point out but I don't I have the time or space to tell it but, a little interesting fact for you guys to ponder on, Lois Lane originally had red hair. I think at the time when Superman was created, it was popular/trendy for actresses to have red hair. And so, Lois Lane was modeled on an actress named Lola Lane. Not saying that's the reason they put Amy Adam's in with red hair but I wish people just shut up about it.

    3 minutes in and already John has lost credibility. It is one thing to say you like a movie but it is another to insult other critics. You can have different opinions.
    5 minutes in Schnep has got me on his side by admitting Avengers is still the best superhero movie.
    15 minutes in Clarke has won me over completely. She hit the nail on the head. This wasn't Superman as a character. It wasn't fun either.
    20 minutes in John is getting better by being honest with whats wrong with it. But best movie of the year isn't even close to accurate.
    30 minutes in I think John managed to watch a completely different film to me. He sounds like someone who wasn't a fan of Superman. But then he shocks me and says Avengers is better than MoS and TDK. Good to know he isn't totally insane.
    40 minutes in and I'm starting to doubt if there is any oxygen in the room. John is about to say that the fight scenes were done well in MoS... They looked straight out of Matrix 3...

      dragonrings14 1. The movie was origin story superman just started off of being an superhero but portraild diffently(an better written origin story then TASM 1).
      2. Those are animated movies, NOT live action that doesn't count and PLEASE don't bring up those outdated Ghris Reeves movies and Boringman Returns(i have nothing against animated movies i like them but i perfer live action movies).
      3. There is no such thing like an REAL or true Superman, Superman in comics and movies is over the years allways written and portraild DIFFERENTLY the pending on which writter or film director.
      4. I'm DC/Marvel/Superman fan as well but i never asked for seeing the SAME Superman over and over again and again becauce things get an little bit BORING here or there and i find every version of Superman in comics or films acceptable even with his flaws and so long he is not as boring.
      5. Again i don't care what eveyone saids, if you don't like the movie that's fine but for me it was superamazing, I 100% agree what John just said and disagree what Clarke just said, Zack Shyder has done an great job with MoS but he can not please eveybuddy such as yourself(no disrepect mate i accept your opinion. ;) )
      And 6. where can i watch or find those animated movies?

As for killing Zod he had no choice and realizing what he has done he yells out in pain, this know sets up his no killing code

    This movie is definitely not on par with The Dark Knight Rises and certainly not with The Dark Knight. Not in any respect. I know people don't want a long origin story, but if you are going to do an origin story, make it detailed. If you don't want to do that, have the hero already be at his peak with 1-2 mentions/flashbacks like they did in Tim Burton's Batman. Don't make a middle of the road origin story. Batman Begins was gripping because it taught us deeper things about the character. Man of Steel was shorter in origin story, but was ultimately very boring because it didn't flesh anything out. I HATED the dialogue between Superman and Lois before they kissed. And I also really hated when Diane Lane's character looks at the barn when being questioned about what her son arrived in. I like the parents (if they have pivotal roles in the story) to be good, and to have an element of toughness, too. No good mother would give that away of their child. Plus, the way that whole scene played out was just so typical and lame. It was lazy storytelling. I took the whole Jonathan Kent not letting Clark save him was that he felt it was his time and he didn't want his son tampering too much with nature taking its course.

    1st problem is the fact that Lois Lane had to be on the ship. I mean seriously she didn't need to be on the ship.
    2nd problem is all the killing.
    3rd problem is that scene when earth dad sacrificed his life to keep sups cover. That was the most unrealistic tornado i have ever seen. seriously if that was a real tornado they wouldn't be able to stand especially that close to a tornado.
    4th is when sups was fighting zodd why didn't sups relocate the fight. And like fight in the desert. I mean come on they went to outer space and landed at the exact same country the exact same state the exact same town and a few miles from were they were fighting
