Man, I miss this era of Kevin Smith's career. New podcasts every day, cool interviews... now it's just boring Discord shows with Bernardin and him running his theater.
I don’t know if this is a wrong way to put it, but he seemed like he overthought a lot less around this time. He didn’t give so much of a fuck about what trolls on the internet said. Back then, he was this positive optimistic, lovable guy that smoked weed and loved to talk about comic book pop culture with his friends and nerd out in his interviews. I miss so damn badly when he would just talk about Batman for an entire podcast. I don’t know what the hell happened. He had his heart attack and I feel like he was never the same afterwards. So sad to watch happen…
@@skylerb97 never said that the heart attack was literally what caused him to stop talking about Batman. I said he had his heart attack and was truly never the same afterwards. Before the heart attack, I don’t really give a f**k if it was more or less about Batman semantically, but it was objectively comic book/superhero universe centric. That stopped after the heart attack.
I know it's been 10 months since this post, so you probably know why you couldn't find it for years. If not this is why. A ton of his podcasts like this one were scrubbed from platforms, because he had them put in his That Keven Smith fanclub/ Smodcast which you have to pay for. I actually signed up just for a few podcasts, ie 2 The Dark Knight Rises podcasts with with Ralph Garmin, and Scott Mosier. Also The Empire Strikes Back watch party, and last is this one.
I remember listening to this and their convo on Dark Knight Rises back in the day. I'm pretty much 100% in agreement with Ralph on MoS and DKR. I can appreciate Kevin's positivity, but ehh....
I do like how they address Superman being this super dangerous, out of control god who trashed half of Metropolis in BvS. From Bruce Wayne’s point of view he had every reason to hate and not trust him.
Yes Kevin!!!!! YES!!! Thank you for finally! Including Superman's Canadian heritage. Nobody else mentions it. They always leave out the fact that Joe Schuster was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, And didn't move to the US until his teens.
Hey man thank you so much for uploading this, I used to listen to this and the dark knight rises episode all the time I have a quick question though do you have the episode where ralph and Kevin talk about avengers age of ultron? I love that episode, too, and used to listen to it all the time
If it didn't happen in the theater it didn't happen. Both Zod and Non were killed in Superman 2 and all the people whining about him getting killed in MOS should shut up
@@pcf9909 Since when has something happening off screen stopped Hollywood from cashing in on nostalgia? Remember The Rise of Skywalker? "Somehow...Palpatine Has Returned!"
Yeah but what happened offscreen there was Rian Johnson took the story so far off the page they had to bend reality, space and time to get it back.@@JasonOrtiz-ye1do
I actually rewatched this movie last night and was less impressed with it than when I saw it in theaters. To me, it doesn’t FEEL like a Superman movie. More like a bio-mechanical laden space opera/sci-fi movie with Superman thrown in. Also, the non-linear storytelling felt kind of jarring and unnecessary to me. I get that they were going for something different, and I don’t hate the movie. I guess it’s just really for me.🤷♂️
Ralph must not watch the early 2000s Justice League cartoon cause Superman and the entire Justice League were killing white Martian yet no one complains about that.
Kevin's one of the reasons the budget of Superman returns is reported so high. There's a couple of failed reboots included in the budget of that movie. Wonder if thats why nothing happens in it.
I dont remember the part where he was told by Zod to activate the beacon.... oh that's right he just did it by accident total HUMAN mistake. I don't care if people like Man of Steel or not for me it's one of my favorite movies but when you fall back on the same old critiques that show that you don't really pay attention to the movie it gets old after a while. I'm referring to this Ralph dude that's talking with Kevin. Kevin at least understands what they're going for even if he has critiques. Also if the Man of Steel Superman suit wants to make you slit your wrist that says more about you than it does the film. My bad if I come across harsh but the hate for this movie has always confused the s*** out of me and also has flat-out pissed me off especially when people just rattle off b*******.
Maybe the reason you hear "the same old critiques" is because a great many people noticed the same problems. I love Kevin but if its a superhero movie and especially if it throws a lesser known character on the screen for a moment, he's going to gush over it.
I'm so sorry but, Garman just sounds like an angry basement neckbeard.... Like it doesn't matter what happens, He's going to hate it and be critical. Very close-minded.
Man of Steel, was made and came in, A very unique and weird time. You can start all the way back in 78 with the Christopher Reeves Superman. After that we got Smallville, which would show us Clark Kent becoming Superman. Then, in 2011 Smallville ended and to the masses, Clark had grown up and just become Superman. So in this post 9/11 world, What would reality be like if Superman showed up??? That is what Man of Steel gave us. In a world that is cynical, And has a entire society suffering from PTSD, What would it be like if Superman joined the world today??? Man of Steel explored that perfectly. But now, People are ready to dream again. When we see the new photos from James Gunn's Superman, It really invokes a sense of Christopher Reeve, humility, And the ability to dream once again. Man of Steel was perfect for the world that it was set in. Superman (2025) I'm sure will do the same. To me personally, James Gunn or Zack Snyder is not one is better than the other. It's like apples and pears. Yes, they are both fruit, That grows on trees, Is sweet and crunchy.... But definitely not the same thing.
But Ralph if you hate what they did with Jorel talking to Lois and use the fact that hes dead to back up your reasoning for why it's bad how about that nonsense where in the original movie he takes his powers away
In 2024 hindsight, Henry Cavill got screwed. Never really got to have his own really good Superman movie. Man of Steel is ok. But I thought B Vs S wasn’t great and neither were any of the Justice League movies. Now Cavill is out and that sucks. I thought he was a good Superman.
Garmin may as well be crying about why we moved on from Batman ‘66… Everyone (except for old heads that don’t want change) want real world scenarios and not corny/campy colorful bull crap. Man of steel was the best Superman movie. It went downhill from there when they had to re-introduce humor/camp to try and mimic marvel. Garman just sounds complainy and outdated.
I just rewatched this last week and was surprised by how impressed I was with it. . Now... There are a couple logic bombs, but overall? Love it. So why did they have to do B v S after this and ruin everything? 🫤

One of those Superman 1978 producers, Pierre Spengler, mentioned that the combined budget for parts 1 and 2 was $109 million in 1981 dollars.

Does anyone know if Ralph likes the new 2022 The Batman movie from Matt Reeves? Im surprised I can't find a video on it.
He talked about it on his Ralph Report podcast. He didn’t love it. Mainly because of the length & pace IIRC.
“This represents a financial win fall for Warner Brothers, it figures out their next 10 years maybe” if they only knew how bad it was going to go lol
