Good and informative video. The tempest wheel covers look great and it is good to know that there is very little efficiency difference. Thank you for running the test.
Another great video. If you ever want to compare efficiency with your Model Y against my Model 3 Performance I can meet you half way between Raleigh and Charlotte. It would be cool to see how the efficiency compares between the two cars if they are driven on the same course simultaneously.
Branden, thanks for running the test. I will be taking a 800 mile R/T road trip later this month, and a 5 - 6,000 mile R/T road trip early next year and I have been wondering whether to put the Aero wheels back on (that came with the S) or go bare wheel. I'll give up a few miles to use the better looking bare wheels. Thanks again.
I'd be interested in seeing your results from the Rimetrix Medusa wheel covers. (They say they are about 0.25% more efficient than the Gemini covers or 4.05% better than no covers.) I'm looking for covers that look a little better and cover some curb rash.
I suspect essentially no difference. Under 5% difference won’t really matter in the real world - just adjust your driving style very slightly and it’ll make a bigger impact. Get whatever covers you like based on style.
Interesting, I don't run them because my cars shipped with the aero alloys, so the one after the non-pretty aero for model S Slipstream? and the black sonic carbon on the model x. But now I won't feel bad for removing the stock covers of Cybertruck, I really don't care for those, especially if they don't line up with the bumps on the tires, I might consider an aftermarket but only if tests show it's worth it on that vehicle vs the cost of the covers.
Unlikely. Model 3 doesn’t really meet my needs being a non-hatchback sedan and is too low for my preference. I would’ve gotten a 3 RWD with LFP pack if Model 3 met my needs.
@@brandenflasch makes sense. I was just curious if it would be better for content for you. There seems to be a ton of interest around the new Model 3 even though the Model Y is currently outselling the Model 3.
I usually leave it on low or it’s too much IMO - I’ll use the “Lo” (max AC) usually to cool the climate or as preconditioning and then low is more than adequate to maintain temp, especially with ceramic temp
I completely disagree with you about 3% being "no big deal". Maybe not a huge deal, but consider that 3% difference would be about $1,367 dollars on an average 24.5 MPG ICE car driven 240,000 at today's gasoline price of $3.49 per gallon. Sure EVs are more are about 5 times more efficient in their use of energy, but that is still $273. If that not a big deal, then mail me a check.
It's incredible how Tesla can't make good looking aero wheels, it's absolutely possible, look at the Lyriq, Taycan and many other EVs with good looking aero wheels, but Tesla makes very ugly aero wheels with cheap plastic accents in other to entice people to buy the less efficient, less comfortable larger wheels.

When you had your turn signal on, I noticed how the HW4 cameras are like night and day compared to hw3.
They’re really good
The cameras on HW3 are much better, especially at night, with firmware 2023.7.30.

Bravo, Branden.
On another note, I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the Model 3 refresh revealed in Europe.

I like the look of these wheels, maybe i will upgrade my black model y too!
Is that a stock blue color? Cuz it’s sparkly blue.. kinda digging it
That is a beautiful wrap
Guessing +-1% for the covers, so nearly identical. The bare wheels I would say will add 4% consumption as compared to either cover.

Branden, can we please talk about the switchgear you got for this site? What your lead time was, why you chose that gear etc…?
I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want to mix work with TH-cam. Especially not disclose company workings. You really shouldn’t ask him to do so either.
Are you going to trade your Model Y for a Highland Model 3 when those come out here?
Unlikely. Model 3 doesn’t really meet my needs being a non-hatchback sedan and is too low for my preference. I would’ve gotten a 3 RWD with LFP pack if Model 3 met my needs.

@LearningFast maybe, we’ll see. The drivetrain is unchanged
@@brandenflasch drivetrain is unchanged but the efficiency is better and the interior quality is definitely better.
Good stuff
What auto fan speed do you set and you find works best?

interesting... always was played up as being a much bigger deal... but always wondered how much of a deal it was really...
Not that big of a deal

No.

$273 over 240k miles is a rounding error

I think they look fine and the Tempest covers are just a copy of the Model S aero wheels that I like
Trade that Y in for an X - do it
Why tho?
