I cry when he sings & it grieves me that he and Tammy went thru so much sadness. But it’s that sadness that created a huge impact on all of us - the greatest love story ever. If I can still cry today, George did his job.
I will always regret that I didn't get to see George Jones in concert. George Jones,Conway Twitty,Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard were the four most awesome REAL country singers. Most of the stuff in the last 20 years isn't country. I LOVE real country singers!
I went to a concert with both George Jones and Conway Twitty in November of 1992. Conway had lost his voice and he said he would come back soon to do another show. So, George sang for almost two hours! Great show. Sadly, Conway died in June of 1993 so I didn't get to see him in concert. I did get to see George about 8 times and loved every one! RIP POSSUM.
I saw George in the mid 90s when he was touring with Tammy. I took my sisters, my ex and my late dad. It was a dream come true. George was ornery, snapping at the road crew and himself. Boy he had a temper. So much fun. I got to see the greatest ever, and he was on that night.
I agree with you. I can listen to George, Dolly, & many others that I grew up with, any time. My Dad's name is also, George, coincidentally & it was him who rubbed off on me as far as who I listen to, etc... He had a lot of 8 Tracks, records of different sizes, cassettes, etc... Of everyone from Flatt & Scruggs who were Dad's bluegrass kings, Hank Williams Sr, Jr & Don who were Dad's country kings (in order they happened), The Rolling Stones who were Dad's Rock N Roll kings, etc.... He had a series of tapes that we always listened to for years called, Super Country 85, 86, 87, 88, & 89, & other tapes like them too. On those albums were Dolly, George, The Judds, Ricky Skaggs, Highway 101, Exile, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Kendalls, Steve Wariner, Mel McDaniel, T.G. Shepard, The Berlin Brothers, The Statler Brothers, Alabama, Rodney Crowell, Rosanne Cash, & tons more. He even had 8 Tracks of Kenny Rogers, Neil Diamond, James Taylor, Merle Haggard, Kitty Wells, Johnny & Jack, Charlie Rich, Charley Pride, & tons more. My Dad is now 68 & has always been a huge music buff. I've always nicknamed him, The Music King & my Mom (Dale) The Movie Queen or The TV Queen. Because if they had a choice & were only allowed 1 thing, Dad would choose a radio & Mom a tv, when I was growing up. I am both of them together but, if I could only pick 1, I find it harder to live without music or a radio than tv. Yet, I love them both & am a huge fan of so many on each, honestly. Thanks to George, Dolly, James Taylor & even Buddy Holly & The Crickets for being my earliest favourites of all, my favourites list kept growing longer & longer. Buddy has always been my Rock N Roll King, George & Dolly my country King & Queen & James Taylor my Folk Music King. So many favourites. Love them all. :)
The man had a passion for country music. He sang until the day he died. His voice was long past it’s prime at this point and it’s still better than any of that bullshit that has come out of Nashville for the last decade. LONG LIVE THE POSSUM.
I love him every song brings us to a special moment in our lives some happy some bring tears but never the less I wouldn't trade them for nothing from 5 years old to 54 years old every song has a special place. I cried my ass off 10 years ago when I called mom and dad to tell them George Jones died it was like losing a close relative I still miss this man.
Dolly (A female) has saved many of our male careers (Not just Male Country Singers), she doesn’t ask for recognition, and still remains on top. What a wonderful representative of and for our Lord Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit, God!!!!
God bless America! This is country music! I wish they still played country music like this today. :/ George Jones and Dolly Parton sang this beautiful song so perfect. This is good ole country music. And I think everyone can sooner or later relate to this song! Rip George Jones.
For the record it was written for, and BY, Hank Jr. I'd bet he would be the FIRST to tell you it's Jr, not Hank Williams(which will always be Sr to some of us). Although that is why it fits Hank Jr better, how is George Jones' name a reminder of a blues man that's already gone(I mean I like this version I just wish he would have changed the line or something as it never made sense to me).
@@thegoldfly1 good point. As good as he sings this song nobody does it like or as full of feeling like Hank Williams jr. Brings a damn tear to my eye every time I hear it
This song is a very special one. It is a duet of the ones that I called my Country Music King & Queen growing up. George was my 1st favorite & most favorite singer & Dolly was my 1st favorite female singer growing up. I could never get enough of either one of them on Awards Shows, Interviews, Concerts, etc.... At one time George Jones didn't want to sing this song because, he thought it hit a little close to home. Very glad he did perform this song with Dolly Parton! You Rock Possum!
I love the Alan Jackson version of this song, but Dolly Parton is one of my all time favorite artists, and I had no idea she did it fist and it's beautiful! I had the opportunity to see Alan perform it live over the summer and it was a once in a lifetime experience.
I was in Okinawa Japan in 1980 as a Marine on active duty. I bought the new Hank Williams jr record, and this song was on that album. Hank wrote it about himself, long before Alan Jackson covered it. I learned to play and sing it myself, but I can't do it justice like Hank, Alan, George & Dolly!

Being a lifelong fan of both George & Dolly, I've always found it hard to pick only 1 from their list of contributions in their musical libraries. I've always said it you like Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes, He Stopped Loving Her Today, A Picture of Me Without You, Bartender's Blues (solo or with James Taylor who wrote it), etc.. I'm sure you'll love his songs: I Can Live Forever, which is a great Country Gospel song. I've always found it to be very uplifting & a song of great faith too. It makes people look at death one day in a calm, relaxed, positive kind of way. It's as though the song is saying, hey, don't fear death. You can talk to Jesus, you can see the lord. He describes in a very positive way now curious he is, how looking forward he is, & how sure he is about what's in the next life even though he's still here living this one. It's a really great song. Another Jones classic. As for his song, Choices, it will remind anyone of the song we listen to & are talking about on here, The Blues Man. This too, really blends well in the same category of subjects, as She Loved A Lot In Her Time, He Stopped Loving Her Today, & many others of his that we all know & can feel him saying while singing that this is a biographical song for him. Such great Jones classics for sure.

Good song. This song fits him more then any other singer. It's like it was wrote for him. He's done most of those thing. One of my favorite country singer. Rip.
George Jones laid the path for the country music after this song. Where it went with today's country I don't know. I've said it a million times. George tough us how to sing with a broken heart. Vince Gill said it's it beat. On that statement.
For the record, GEORGE JONES was the first artist offered the song MURDER ON MUSIC ROW, but George Strait and Alan Jackson got wind of it and recorded it before George got a chance to!
Bocephus wrote the lives of so many legends with this song. I mean, him and his dad, as well as Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and George Jones lived this song at some point in their lives. Thanks Bocephus for doing this.
I live in Tennessee. Love Nashville. Wish tho it was like it used to be. Guess things change. George and Dolly will never change. Raised on thee great iconic singers and writers. Dolly continues to give back. We know.

Good song. This song fits him more then any other singer. It's like it was wrote for him. He's done most of those thing. One of my favorite country singer. Rip.
All this new country these days, man George Id love to have you back. But you're up there with the good lord.
George has passed now...and yes it was a very sad day when he went.
Don't I know u lol
The best country duet ever recorded past present future bar none!
George Jones laid the path for the country music after this song. Where it went with today's country I don't know. I've said it a million times. George tough us how to sing with a broken heart. Vince Gill said it's it beat. On that statement.
I Love this song, "Blues Man" George and Dolly!!!!
Margie Knight i l love ir.
Probably the best duet I've ever Heard..
This is finest quality country and I have listened to it all my life and will do till the end
How could it ever get better than a song written by Hank, Jt., sang by George Jones and Dolly.
I sure do miss him
George's song Who's Going To Fill Their Shoes rings so true now that he's gone!!
For the record since no one seems to know, Hank Williams, Jr. wrote this. This is an awesome rendition.
Maybe so however the part in the lyrics about not showing up for shows is what Jones did he carried the nickname of No Show Jones.
For the record, GEORGE JONES was the first artist offered the song MURDER ON MUSIC ROW, but George Strait and Alan Jackson got wind of it and recorded it before George got a chance to!
Seems almost autobiographical to me.
@@me4untn1 Hank Jr had his fair share of not showing up for shows as well
Asian Jackson wrote it
Bocephus wrote the lives of so many legends with this song. I mean, him and his dad, as well as Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and George Jones lived this song at some point in their lives. Thanks Bocephus for doing this.
i love this song and all your other songs i miss u george i listen to your music every day rip george love u
My father in law got me into country so many years ago. God how I miss you pat. Rest in peace my friend..
Grew up very close to Dolly, never knew she sang this song!!!! Love everything Dolly has done for her people!!! She is a National Treasure.
I live in Tennessee. Love Nashville. Wish tho it was like it used to be. Guess things change. George and Dolly will never change. Raised on thee great iconic singers and writers. Dolly continues to give back. We know.
Two of the best . Unreplaceable
Hey dear how are you doing over there ?
I started listening to George Jones in 1996 when somebody gave me a tape, I was only 16 then and I'm still listening to him, at the time I first heard him I didn't realize he was such a big country legend I just knew he could sing better than anybody else in country....
