You could also use an auto body rubber squeegee block to look at your progress instead of using a wet rag...

You can use guide coat between grits
In this situation, I wouldn't use a guide coat. The orange peel is my initial guide. Thank you for watching 🤝💯

I have a 78 my dad bought in 79 and it's been sitting for like 20 yrs. I want to fix it up like you are doing. Can you guide me where to get parts and trim and window seals and maybe hard to find parts. I appreciate any info you can share.
