I thought exactly the same! "I have never even polished my car, why the f**k should I watch a sanding video?" now: "Looks like my wallet is going to hurt even more, now I want to learn how to sand my car too".
After seeing that shine on that Bentley afterwards this is something I just have to learn.

I've learnt a ton on TH-cam. Everything from bettering my woodwork, welding even carbon and resin wrapping.
I have to state that I am using LC pads, I'm here to learn how to use them better as there's so much noise out there.
This has to be the best tutorial of ANY discipline I've watched. Kelly's knowledge, simplicity, practical demo and the lack of bs, lack of trying to sell me something or telling me X product is the holy grail, is just class.
He's the Michael Jordan of detailing, he doesn't have to tell you how skilled he is.

i currently own and drive a 1999 GLE and love it, i bought it from original owner, garage kept with service papers from his local Nissan dealer showing he went there for regular oil changes, etc. At 62, ive had quite a few cars and trucks and this might be my favorite to drive. The Icelandic Pearl (white) paint is a bit of a pain as it shows all the dirt, but this car looks great for its age and i continue keeping it in a garage today. With just 62K on the odometer i felt $3500 wasnt too bad a price for it. Today, after 3 years, ive got 82K miles. Oil changes are fast and simple and i try to get one done every 5000 miles. I was happy to read your article on TH-cam and thought you really covered all the important points. You got my thumbs up and ive subscribed to see what else you put out. Good stuff! Thanks!

This man is absolutely brilliant. This is the best video I have ever seen regarding paint defects and paint correction. I'm just happy I can POLISH the paint decently now. I'd love to have the skill to do wet sanding and other tricks of the trade but that's way out of my skill level at the moment. I've been polishing a few years now and have about 5 different types of polishers and I still consider myself a novice. I've definitely made some MISTAKES over the years and once I made it, I try not to ever do it again! But I am confident in my polishing skills now. Just did a two stage polish on my 370Z over the past few days and it is GLEEMING! I've had several people tell me "That's the best looking Z I have ever seen".

Thank you so much for sharing on such a detailed way your knowledge about how a car's paintwork is made, about the most important tricks of paint defects and how to correct them without weaken unnecessarily weaken the paint!
I have worked in a car factory for over 30 years and I know well what robotic painting is (in the paint shop) and what manual painting is. And yes, in car factories it is also used paint by hand, in the repair areas after the final quality inspection as sometimes scratches occur during the process of assembling all the parts or when handling the cars from one point to another. A repaint is never the same as the original paint, it can be excellent, reworked to perfection but it is always a paint done over a paint!
As additional information, contrary to what one might think, paint that is too thick is also not desirable as, among other things, it loses flexibility.
    Congratulations on the excellent video!

the best video I've ever seen in years. Just 1 suggestion, if you want to grow your channel separate the video on clips and make them between 15-25 min.
    Wish you good luck.

I’m a weekend warrior who also details a few cars for other people based on recommendations, I was absolutely petrified of going anywhere near sanding but you have explained it so well and shown how easy it appears to be, I am now tempted to give it a go. Test panel only to start, I’m not that confident. Thanks for the excellent videos and living just down the road from you I’m tempted to book a training course for rookies

Well if anyone had told me you actually sand down a car like that I'd have called them a madman. That was an amazing video I didn't believe I'd actually watch completely through. But the presentation was spot on.
One thing I wonder however is how the connection between the unsanded part around the logo (or the top of the wave on the bonnet) worked.
Does it need special treatment to get connected to the perfectly shiny new area or does it just blend in?

    • @LakeCountryManufacturing
      @LakeCountryManufacturing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Blend. By feathering the grades at the edge of the sanding (so you leave a gap with the heaviest grade, smaller gap with the next one, smallest gap with the last one) you fade the orange-peel away without causing a problem of heavy sanding marks in difficult-to-polish areas (same for sharp creases and swage lines). The end result is 99% of the time overwhelmingly satisfying. If a client demands the ultimate level of sanding, all the way up to every edge, in every tricky area, this requires much more challenging and careful polishing work to ensure no accidental break-throughs on those high-pressure zones. Double the effort. Double the price. Not double the end result, but maybe to some people it kinda is?

Excellent video. I came across a similar problem where I have run a wool pad several times to remove sanding marks from the clear. This is more trouble some with a hard clear coat. In the case of sanding with P3000 and P5000, polishing work is just 1 or 2 step away to achieve excellent finish and gloss.
