Just got this clutch installed a week ago. Plan on going is38 and the eqt is38 tune and call it there. So far love the clutch feel and responsiveness.
Nice enjoy
How’s the clutch running ?
So, IMO, as a fellow MK7 GTI 6spd manual owner, that has been Stage 2 since 2k miles, and now IS38 custom tuned, I will have to say that the weakest part on this car is the clutch. It really depends on how your drive the GTI, that determines how long the clutch lasts.
If you plan on doing exactly what Jewel City has been doing, and that is using your GTI more for pulls and races, the clutch he has is the perfect setup for anything around 450wtq or less, give or take. You will be able to do pull after pull, with no issues.
If you plan on having similar mods, or even IS38, or even IS20 Stage 2, and use it as a daily, that clutch kit, and many others, will also be fine. The thing that starts to become more problematic is how much you drive, especially how much city driving you do. I say that because with a lot of city driving, you are on the clutch a lot more than if you're just daily'ong it to work and back or doing pulls like Jewel City. And with using the clutch a lot more, the weakest point of the clutch, the TOB/slave, gets worn out a lot faster, and will fail prematurely. That's what sucks about the 6spd. I have had three TOB/slave's fail prematurely on me, and it sucks so bad.
What’s TOB? And how much does TOB /slave cost to repair
@@AmanSingh-si4hcthrow out bearing if you never figured it out
@@AmanSingh-si4hc On this car, if your TOB/slave cylinder fails, due to it sitting inside the transmission bell housing, it will contaminate the clutch with brake fluid spraying everywhere, and you will need to relace your entire clutch kit. So it is an expensive job.
I have the SRE and love it. On my third TOB
I started laughing the second the video started. I have probably asked you 20 times hahah. I have the same clutch, have had it for 2 years on my 2020 GTI is38 93 Stage 2 EQT. Zero slipping, zero issues its amazing and for anyone questioning it I highly recommend it. Super quite clutch no chatter sounds. Thank you for your video as always amazing content. Oh and yes the peddle feel is amazing!
Sounds like we’ve had a similar experience so far
I’m stage 2 stock clutch no slip at 50k miles.
@@billymadison429 are you is20 or is38 stage 2?
@@spicygti6148 I am is20 ie stage 2 high torque
@@billymadison429 That's why
I’ve heard good things with RTS they got different versions but their highest one is rated for 550 lbs/ft torque and ive talked to someone who has their 495 lbs/ft rated clutch for his GTI clubsport with a TTE IS38 hybrid and he says the clutch feel is very close to stock and still holds up strong
Try APR throttle booster. I have one with stage 1 and makes car feel so much sharper for Street driving (150%) . Engine feel much more eager to rev. Compared to 100% linear throttle. Power can be tuned down too. When running 80% profile, car feels a lot smoother. You can do that without doing tunes. The remote allow you to adjust thrpttle reaponse on the fly
Lmfao 0:20 there I am , thank you so much. I literally dm and commented today about this . I even made it into the video
Haha I did the same thing. Went with the Sachs and never thought I'd need more. A Garrett turbo and e85 later and it's still holding up...for now.
That’s usually how it goes down
Had a DKM. Hated it. Would recommend going anything else
I went with the dkm stg2 clutch kit. Rated 440tq. Lightweight flywheel makes a massive difference. Revs up so much faster. Chatter isn’t even notable for me most of the time but it is there. Stiff clutch feel at first but it broke in nicely. Grips up very quickly when you let off the pedal. Very hard to get going up hills with it.
How is it holding up? I got that same kit and my throw out bearing exploded after 2k miles, pedal went down and never cam back up on my commute home from work. I have a replacement now but I’m not confident in it.
@@rambow70 the TOB in that clutch kit is not the best many people use a different TOB.
Xclutch stage 2 is great also ACT clutches, and i have seen a few ecs stage 4 clutches.
Ya recently installed the Xclutch stage 2 is very nice as long as you don't mind the noise 😂
I drove it already, clutch is nice 👍
I have Dkm stage 2 clutch chatter is there but whatever and holds the power so far had for 10k miles
Have you thought on taking the GTI to a track day? It seems like it'd be so fun
Great video man, I’ve been copying your setups since is20 days 😂
Hi im from europe, i own a mk7 clubsport. Its the same engine as a golf R but with FWD only. Question, i have a clunk sound in the front when driving on unregular roads like with old roads with, i dont know the word, they are "kasseien" colbble stones? So why that clunk?
The problem with changing to a single mass flywheel is that the flywheel, engine rotating assembly and the harmonic balancer are all designed as one unit. You're changing the harmonic frequency of the rotating assembly using a different flywheel and a rubber/elastomer HB is designed to quell a certain harmonic frequency, with some of that is absorbed by a dual mass flywheel.
The "benefits" of a single mass flywheel are dubious for a road car. And the untamed harmonics are terrible for the engine.
Not sure about for this car, but I know there are makers of lightweight, dual mass flywheels. Fidanza comes to mind.
Also, the rattling in that video is most likely due to an extremely lightweight SMF. You can go single mass, but I would go with something that is not too much lighter than the factory setup. And I would bite the bullet on a Fluidampr if I wanted my engine to last.
What sach clutch you have..stage 1 or 2..or just regular
have you done any Races with RS3 maybe in future videos Love to see what the little rocket can do Love your videos Be safe out there
Only stock with new owners
I went S.B. daily when I went Apr 2 hi-tq.... Ain't been happy w it... Is20 left the chat so a Hpa is38+ is goin in tomorrow. Wondering if it'll do better w more power 🤣
Ok.. so you got the sachs clutch.. how much power are you running with it? I was looking at the set up.. but stage 2 with the dual mass is at 400tq. Would a stage 2 tune hold with it?
You have nice videos 👍. One question 🙂 In the idle u hear little chattering? Specially when car at operating temperature and you release the clutch ?
Single mass flywheels can chatter a little it's normal.
I though he has DMF
In terms of miles, how long would u guess it takes to break it in?
Cause I just got mine back, Idk what brand mechanic put in, but the clutch is so heavy it hurts to drive. My Mk7 gti is completely stock.
3:12 - "I'm surprised it's held up this long"
Why? It's rated for the torque, right? Or do you drive your car hard a lot?
4 different turbo set-ups that most likely exceed the 400tq this clutch is rated for.
+ Plenty of hard pulls
@@JewelCity1- I just bought a Mk8 GTI 380 Autobahn and am thinking of a Stage 1 APR tune with a low-torque file. The Mk8 stock clutch I'm told is the clutch used by the Mk7 Golf R, so I'm thinking it'll hold up fine.
@ Ive seen someone with a mk8 stage 1, e85 on LT with no clutch slipping so far.
hey I have a gti and was wondering what front tires you are running?
My goal is 400hp in my mk8 GTI & keep it stock looking.
I'm half way there.
Hi ! What rims model is it ?
I was thinking of getting this clutch for my manual 2018 golf R. Idk if I should get a new flywheel with it too or not.
Should be fine especially If you have Low miles or have not started slipping yet.
Love your vids man. I have a 2017 DSG GTI S with a IE Downpipe and Borla Exhaust. Im Currently Stage 1+ Other than Getting my Tcu tuned, what could you recommend I add?
go E30 or e85. Upgrade tires if you haven’t already
Them gti manuals got tall ass gears. I was cruising at 60 in second 💀
lol you "cruise" at 6k rpms?
but ya it's a little nuts that 2nd goes up to ~75 haha
you mean short? dad had a gt350 and it would go over 100 in second
@@gabekendall3751 nice, what'd your other dad drive?
Top of 3rd is about 105 at 6700rpm in mine.
thoughts on tuning w/ sneeky vs eqt?
I’m doing sneeky rn
Some ppl swear by sneeky but I’ve been enjoying eqt’s custom map on this car.
Apologies for the unrelated comment, but what’s the idea behind many big-power GTI folk downsizing to 17” wheels? Presumably it’s to fit a tire with a taller sidewall, and if I understand correctly that in turn may help put power down? Though if so, how does that work?
Bigger tire with more sidewall for straight line grip. Some 17s are usually lighter too so less unsprung mass.
I’m running 17s but need better tires
Hey im plaining on going with this clutch for my audi do you think i will also need to change the flywheel? Flywheel only has about 35k miles on it was replaced by previous owner any input will be appreciated
This clutch works with stock flywheel so as long as you have that, should be fine
How many miles do you have on the clutch now if you don’t mind me asking?
I converted to a SPEC Stage3+ clutch set up, and its chattery AF, always trying to talk to me LOL
I've been using DKM, and it's been holding up good
There it is.
+1 for DKM
@@JewelCity1 also +1. I've also been using a DKM stage 2 clutch, I've put 23k miles on it so far. It is a single mass and the chatter is not as big of a deal as it toned down now that its worn in a bit. It did chatter more when it was breaking in or if you have the ac on at a food drive-thru you can hear it as well. For me I do think the smfw and noticeably less rev hang/ quicker revs, is worth the chatter noise!
So I have a 2017 MK7 R and I'm in need of a new clutch myself. I checked both your video's and neither mentioned about your fly wheel when you updated your disc and pressure plate. Did you have to re surface the flywheel? How many miles did you have on the fly wheel before you did your clutch upgrade?
Thanks for your time in advance!
About 3k original miles before the clutch upgrade. Flywheel was fine
@@JewelCity1 Thank for the fast reply!
Hey, what kind of throw out bearing are you running
Stock
it’s crazy how damn high this clutch bites, I have the same one and my brother wants to learn in my car, he’s gonna learn in a fucking civic lmao 😭
Where’d you get that euro world sticker
It was given to me
How is the chatter with sachs clutch you have?
No chatter
Are these cars reliable? I heard so many things from both sides good and bad
motor itself can handle 500hp stock. There are some common parts that go bad prematurely like the water pump and Rear main seal, Which is why you hear mixed reviews.
Got that same shift knob in my R!
Great choice
A year later lol what knob is it?
@@alex-bq7osI’ve heard bad things about them, coming loose at the threads and such
Name wheels rims?
Hey how many miles on the sachs clutch now?
About 35k
Just got mine installed feels like it grabs great bro to be honest i just feels like the pedal is lil stiff im hoping once it brakes in should feel softer im sure but besides that i love it!
So my goal is 400whp for is38, will the Sachs clutch handle it?
400whp is a lot for a stock is38 but Ive been running a Sachs stage 2 clutch for 8,000 miles on my mk7.5 and I'm at 420+whp and no slippage yet. And I beat on it pretty hard.
Yes
@@pierrequick2987 it is, but a stock IS38 can hold 400whp no problem. Lot's of guys have hit the 400whp mark on stock IS38. They either run E85, or run meth.
@@JacesOwnWorld yeah I have FBO and E85 . In the process of custom tuning rn just the clutch just started slipping after the second map. So I’m afraid that the Sachs clutch won’t be enough to hold 400
@@DrivenByChris should be fine but you can always get a higher rated one for peace of mind
if someone could please help me i’d appreciate greatly. i have a mk7 gti eqt stage 2 with dsg tuned. i was roll racing when i floored jt from 4th but my car downshifted to 3 and redlined. the it sounded like if it were stuck at a certain rpm but yet the car accelerated. i look back and a huge cloud of white/light grey smoke came out. my the smoke is now gone and my car is running perfectly fine. today i drove it again and did a dig to 40 then i left off and pressed brakes and saw the huge cloud of smoke again but it is now gone. someone please help me out here
Could be blow-by smoke if you’re running a catch can
@@JewelCity1 i’m not running catch can i only have intake, inlet pipe, diverter valve, spark plugs and coil packs, fmic, exhaust and downpipe. other than that nothing else is on the car so i’m pretty worried here
@@JewelCity1 btw you’re the person who inspired my build and love all your videos
do you have any codes?
With the single mass fly wheel Is there any vibration when you shift gears. I noticed i feel vibration when i shift gears ⚙️. There's no jerking anything like that, but im just curious
race some rs3s
I want to
DSG is the best clutch.
ringer racing stage 5
How is that clutch? Planning to buy soon
anyone here experienced crankwalk after modding?
Is it me or your super vague with mods?
There are multiple videos reviewing specific brand parts on the channel
@@JewelCity1 yea but you were also vague with the specific parts you actually installed. For instance with the brand of stock location intercooler you had. I asked you directly and avoided the question lol. It’s all good. Happy 4th Jewels.
