Uriah Heep is one of their biggest influences. Particularly on Opus Eponymous. Just listen to the song 'Return To Fantasy' by Uriah and you'll see what I mean.
It is a formula... it's not the Michael Jackson, Taylor Swift or whatever Motley Crew , KISS formula... but it is a formula.... it's paying homage to his influences... you can totally hear oh this one is supposed to be megadeath, that one R.EM, let's make a song that sounds like "take it to the limit" by The Eagles etc etc... and a lot of original and experimental as well mixed... and dude, they are super creative, Tobias is a genius, but he is reworking older songs as well aa coming with new ones...

That’s why I love this group even as a Christian myself. They’re extremely intelligent in their songwriting and they say some really important things about human nature.

I think what happened especially with this first album is that it was supposed to mock Satanism by being over-the-top and cheesy, but Tobias was so knowledgeable on the subject that it actually managed to capture certain forms of Satanism so accurately, it comes across as legitimately satanic and being serious to a lot of people. He kinda took advantage of that on later albums and started putting actual sociological messages behind the satanic lyrics.

So first of all, as a Christian who loves metal (and Ghost!), I really enjoy this channel. I don't always agree with you guys, but I always learn something from your intelligent discussions. But I just have to comment on the beginning of the video when you mentioned the new president of Planned Parenthood. I haven't seen the exact comment you were referring to, but as someone who works in reproductive healthcare and is passionately pro-choice, I just want to give my two cents about why an immigrant from China might want to run Planned Parenthood. It's important to understand that pro-choice people in general don't *just* advocate for the right to have an abortion. We advocate for each and every woman to make her own reproductive choices, whether that's to have many children or no children, to have an abortion or use contraceptives, etc. I am equally against forced abortion as I am against forced birth (though as an American, I'm especially concerned about the right to have an abortion), and I don't know any pro-choice person who feels differently. And while I don't know Dr. Wen personally, I'd imagine that she feels the same way. Anyway, I hope you guys see this comment. This was not meant to preach at you in any way, just to give you the pro-choice perspective :) Keep up the great videos! Anti-choice people generally want the state to enforce laws which denies a woman control over her body, because they see the outcome as immoral, usually for religious reasons. But the thing is, you can see something as immoral, but still leave it up to people themselves to make those choices, based on their own moral system and world view, and not use the state to make the choice for them and enforce their morality upon others.
I'm not sure why Sori thinks that all Ghost songs sound the same. The songs on their first album "Opus Eponymous" sound nothing like the songs on their latest album "Prequelle". Does "He Is" sound like "Rats"? Or does "Elizabeth" sound anything like "Dance Macabre"? Ghost does have a distinct sound, but their songs are vastly different from each other.

Hi guys, i think abortion has to be legal if the life of woman is in risk or if woman was raped or if the kid won't be healthy. It's the right of the woman to decide, not church. Also it's not again christians, if you don't want abortion because of belief, it's your choice but please don't take the choice from other people with other beliefs.
If the woman was raped, the child can be put up for adoption, the child should not have to suffer for the actions of the father. I think it is a very bad notion that so called rights are used to eliminate personal responsibillties and consequences, because convenience and expediency are rated higher than what is moral and right. However, if the womans life is really at risk and her life is beyond saving if she continues the pregnancy, it would be logical and ethical to end the pregnancy with an abortion. #prolife
at least you accept one of reasons, but there are states in the world with strong church lobby which even in that case denied abortion and rather let mother died. I understand and respect your reasons but what is moral and right could be different for you and for others. Abortion is wrong, everybody know, it's not solution, but in special cases it is acceptable even by morale. I'm happy that I live in country where church isn't strong so we have liberal laws and we are really free. You don't have to be church fanatic to live according to ten commandments

only the Meliora Deluxe version has Square Hammer in it, originally it's on the Popestar EP. And yes, every album sounds very different from one another, which is totally calculated ahead of time by his genius mind!! :)

I'm a Ghost fan, but I'm also a secular humanist. What if I just like to poke fun at religious ideas because they're ridiculous to me? What if Ghost is just having fun writing satanic tunes because satan is a symbol in popculture that is super edgy? People like edgy, campy stuff. i'm with some other commenters who've brought up ghost's life eternal and witch image. i'm very curious as to what your thoughts are/would be on those tracks, i just imagine they'd spark some really interesting conversations. i know that for me, after being brought up in some evangelical churches growing up, those songs are among the ghost tracks that hit very different feelings.

They seem to miss a lot of the meanings of Ghost's songs, when a simple search would help. Siamo con clavi refers to a catholic assembly, not coming with nails after Christ. With Latin as with any other language you cannot just literally translate a meaning, that's not how language works.

I never really listened to Ghost before. Weird thing is that I never really considered them until watching the review of Don't Fear The Reaper and you guys said it was kind of reminiscent of Ghost. I saw you post this video and thought I would check out this song.
Glad you guys did Con Clavi Con Dio ! Yes it is a short song but the album itself is also quite short. You have done a few songs of that album already like ritual and elizabeth but listening to songs separately does not do Opus Eponymous justice. Ghost heaviest first album should be listened to from front to back in one sitting to fully appreciate what the band is about in my personal opinion. That goes for their other albums as wel. I would reccomend listening to the album first for the alround theme and then dissect it song by song. Nevertheless great review and keep up the good work.

I haven't seen the exact comment you were referring to, but as someone who works in reproductive healthcare and is passionately pro-choice, I just want to give my two cents about why an immigrant from China might want to run Planned Parenthood. It's important to understand that pro-choice people in general don't *just* advocate for the right to have an abortion. We advocate for each and every woman to make her own reproductive choices, whether that's to have many children or no children, to have an abortion or use contraceptives, etc. I am equally against forced abortion as I am against forced birth (though as an American, I'm especially concerned about the right to have an abortion), and I don't know any pro-choice person who feels differently. And while I don't know Dr. Wen personally, I'd imagine that she feels the same way.
Anyway, I hope you guys see this comment. This was not meant to preach at you in any way, just to give you the pro-choice perspective :) Keep up the great videos! Oh, and to echo many other Ghost fans, I'd love to see a reaction to Monstrance Clock!

Anti-choice people generally want the state to enforce laws which denies a woman control over her body, because they see the outcome as immoral, usually for religious reasons. But the thing is, you can see something as immoral, but still leave it up to people themselves to make those choices, based on their own moral system and world view, and not use the state to make the choice for them and enforce their morality upon others.

I'm not sure why Sori thinks that all Ghost songs sound the same. The songs on their first album "Opus Eponymous" sound nothing like the songs on their latest album "Prequelle". Does "He Is" sound like "Rats"? Or does "Elizabeth" sound anything like "Dance Macabre"? Ghost does have a distinct sound, but their songs are vastly different from each other.
What I like about ghost is that all albums are different sounding, all their own identity. Truly the feeling of an church like entity.
Also 'con clavi' can also mean 'Fault God'.

Hi guys, i think abortion has to be legal if the life of woman is in risk or if woman was raped or if the kid won't be healthy. It's the right of the woman to decide, not church. Also it's not again christians, if you don't want abortion because of belief, it's your choice but please don't take the choice from other people with other beliefs.
If the woman was raped, the child can be put up for adoption, the child should not have to suffer for the actions of the father. I think it is a very bad notion that so called rights are used to eliminate personal responsibillties and consequences, because convenience and expediency are rated higher than what is moral and right. However, if the womans life is really at risk and her life is beyond saving if she continues the pregnancy, it would be logical and ethical to end the pregnancy with an abortion. #prolife

I understand and respect your reasons but what is moral and right could be different for you and for others. Abortion is wrong, everybody know, it's not solution, but in special cases it is acceptable even by morale. This is off of their first album Opus Eponymous....which also had Ritual and Elizabeth. It is a very different sound than say Meliora (which has Cirice and Square Hammer) and their newest album Prequelle.
only the Meliora Deluxe version has Square Hammer in it, originally it's on the Popestar EP. And yes, every album sounds very different from one another, which is totally calculated ahead of time by his genius mind!! :)

i'm with some other commenters who've brought up ghost's life eternal and witch image. i'm very curious as to what your thoughts are/would be on those tracks, i just imagine they'd spark some really interesting conversations. i know that for me, after being brought up in some evangelical churches growing up, those songs are among the ghost tracks that hit very different feelings.

They seem to miss a lot of the meanings of Ghost's songs, when a simple search would help. Siamo con clavi refers to a catholic assembly, not coming with nails after Christ. With Latin as with any other language you cannot just literally translate a meaning, that's not how language works.
@Cardinal Copia's Love Slave they did it with HIM's Join Me in Death as well. It seems weird to me that they just don't do a simple search while reviewing these songs, especially with something that is clearly a concept album.

Glad you guys did Con Clavi Con Dio ! Yes it is a short song but the album itself is also quite short. You have done a few songs of that album already like ritual and elizabeth but listening to songs separately does not do Opus Eponymous justice. Ghost heaviest first album should be listened to from front to back in one sitting to fully appreciate what the band is about in my personal opinion. That goes for their other albums as wel. I would reccomend listening to the album first for the alround theme and then dissect it song by song. Nevertheless great review and keep up the good work.
