I am not a Satanist, i don't care if they are, i like the songs and the message representing evil as something that's not necessarily negative, but im an atheist and i don't believe in the devil so this is purely metaphorical to me
The vast majority of satanists are atheists. So yes, this song is incredibly satanistic, but not in the way most people think, because they have an off perception of what satanism is.
lol... had she heard it without the lyrics she would have loved the music x,D!!! but yeah... its cringy af at first for us Christians, too much devil praising... it sounds killer live though...
I really respect you guys for not interrupting the song at all, and letting the band say what they had to say, before you added your thoughts and opinions. Just shows that you guys have respect, and are also educated (based on your discussion after the song) for other people’s sayings even though they’re completely opposite to your own beliefs.
Well, I disagree. Year Zero is one amazing song, and is one of Ghost's best songs and from one of their best albums, Infestissumam. I love this song, and I really get into it when done live! I think one of the reasons that a song like Year Zero gets a bad wrap from non-Ghost critics, or very casual Ghost fans is, unlike so many of Ghost's songs, which are very subtle in their approach to the subject matter, and can even sound like "normal" rock songs, Year Zero is IN YOUR FACE Satanic Praising at it's best! Nothing held back, nothing subtle about the lyrics or the subject matter of Year Zero! And THAT is why I personally, a MASSIVE Ghost fanatic, absolutely LOVE Year Zero and will play it any time I can in my car with the windows down for all to hear!!! If you have Ghost, you have everything! All Hail Ghost!
Agreed! Almost ALL of Ghost's songs are so incredible on an album format, but are even BETTER when done live, the way only Ghost can perform them! As a live band, there really aren't any bands that can compare to Ghost! And Year Zero is just, quite simply, one HELLUVA song live!
Well, it's kinda obvious the girl reacted like that because it was so fast and strong, as you said it. Straight to the point. She was incredibly uncomfortable (both). I loved it, because it felt really powerful, I related it like "then masses standing in awe".
I saw them in concert last night. As far as I know, they are not Satanists in the biblical sense. More of the propaganda cultural sense. The main singer himself is quoted stating that he is not believer in God or satan, but he does want to believe in something. I think they are a great band and I am now a huge fan. After being in a Christian Cult for 13 years, to find a band that helps me get a polite "Fuck you" across to a religion that brainwashed and mentally abused me for so long, it was a breath of fresh air. Being able to Yell "HAIL SATAN" with a 1,000 people was such a euphoric and liberating feeling. Not because I am a satanist, but because it was saying "I'm free and you can't control me anymore".
Wow! I was in a Christian cult for nearly twenty years, and it was so abusive that I finally couldn't t take it anymore. I was constantly having nightmares about my pastor and every day was a constant bombardment of my identity. I was diagnosed as having COMPLEX PTSD when I finally went to a Psychiatrist - 10 years after I left the church. It was something we weren't allowed to do in church and the church was very much against medication; which is why it took so long for me to see one. I had the same experience, once I was free I turned into a party animal - I was free to use the internet and research evolution, taxonomy, geology, archaeology etc. and once it got thru my thick head, I finally realised that what I believed just wasn't true. I lost they psychological torture of thinking I was going to burn in fire for all eternity. And that feeling was amazing. Anyway, Iiterally just discovered this band today and they are effing amazing; Im totally addicted. Hail Satan!
If you actually look into the religion of Satanism they don’t really believe in Satan at all. One of the seven tenets states to base all belief on scientific fact. So basically they are satanic if you think about it. I am too. I even have a membership card and certificate to the official Satanic Temple 😂
I think the reason Ghost fans such as myself make a point of saying it's not serious, is because we know it's a stage act, but it's also an escape from every day life, like a good thriller/horror movie. It let's you live vicariously through the music, and then you can go back to your every day life, having convinced yourself it's an act, and thus you're not a satanist. Some people are Satanists and use this music as celebratory, but for the most part it's just another form of rebelion selling well in music. And in this case, it's the ultimate rebellion. It's the Devil. Also though, it really is just a really well done stage act. The band goes home and lives normal lives from what I know. They're just incredible writers and put on an amazing stage show. Like Gwar, but with more talent and a Vision. A central focal point.
TomForNow dude every time I listen to ghost I just walk around feeling awesome and satanic XD it feels powerful to hail the dark overlord, even if I don’t specifically believe in him. I’m an agnostic, I love the supernatural and trying to prove its existence but I haven’t seen to much solid evidence yet
When I got into work last week on a Monday at 5am. I played this song before anyone could get their radios on. Let’s just say, not many people talked to me on that day. I was ok with it lol
I think the reason we Christians have trouble with this music or feel uncomfortable about the lyrics is because we have trouble distinguishing the difference between the two devils. Like Tobias said they are not satanic in the sense of praising someone downstairs but he is taking on the persona of the satanic metal that came before him. In my mind there are two devils: the real one and the one that is a dark theme that we love so much in metal music. We just need to learn to understand they are different. Ghost is my favorite band even if we are Christian, we can definitely still listen to them and enjoy them, you'd be missing out if you didn't.
I don't hate year zero per say, but it is one of my least favorite ghost songs. You could say that that is my christian belief knocking in, but the "hell satan" part always makes me uncomfortable, and this is my favorite band. I definently see what your saying though, and I agree
Lucifer was kicked out of Heaven because he was prideful and chose to sing and worship himself and not God.Now you are singing and chanting songs that worship and praise Satan the EXACT thing that Lucifer was doing and you are saying you LOVE IT and it is "Just a song you enjoy" and that you are still a Christian? Do see just how foolish and blind you are? Not to mention completely stupid to think that doing such a thing doesn't affect your christianity or relationship with God in ANY WAY. Ask yourself really if what you are saying makes sense because from where I am standing, you sound delusional and foolish.

Reactaroo Skidoo most “satanic” metal bands are the same. What always go me about religion is, “you can’t listen to to metal because metal is the devil.” But watching satanic horror movies is ok. I’ve said it before but we watched “the exorcist” in church once. 🤷🏼♂️
The problem was, they're caught up with their religion and can't see music. Which isn't a problem persay but is a shame. I saw the same thing happen to Christian bands too. But Year Zero is one of the catchiest songs so her to say it was meh is humorous to me.

That makes a lot of sense. At first the idea of it being equivalent in size to a dinosaur made some kind of sense, but then the line where it talked about being concealed in reeds and marshes made it seem much smaller. A hippo makes far more sense.
i remember reading an article where the lead singer Tobias Forge, said it's not to be taken seriously. he compared his music to being the equivalent of horror movies. he said that each song is basically a story, a horror movie made into a song. I've watched a lot of horror movies, especially 70s and 80s and sometimes some of those songs do remind me of some of those early horror movies. their earlier music videos were shot in ways that made them look like something out of those old films.
That's BS. There's interviews where he talks about the role of Satan in his life. It's on purpose. It's deliberate. It's' a song literally worshiping Satan. it's overly blatant, but we all try to justify why it's okay. It's not.

The reason Ghost had the B.C. added to their name was due to legal issues in the US. There was another band in the US that had claims to the name Ghost. Therefore they added B.C. to the name when they toured the States.
This is from a loudwire article quoting one of the Nameless Ghouls: "What we found least irritating was that if it was something short for something else," the Ghoul continues. "We added the B.C. 'Because of Copyright' or, obviously, 'Before Christ.' We wanted people to still focus on Ghost. Unfortunately that leaked over into the promotional side too just because they tagged everything 'Ghost B.C.' everyone started calling it that."
@@fscorpion678 no it didnt, sirrunk is correct. It meant "because copyright" bc of the copyright laws with the name Ghost. They got all that fixed and switched back to being called just Ghost.
TheKeithCarnes Well, of course I can not be absolute sure about that. And I would not call it fake. For me it falls more in the category of myth. I do not believe in the supernatural and do not even can immagine what that really means. For me Satan is as irrelevant as Jesus or fairies. Are you sure there are no fairies? I am not, but I do not believe in them.
This is a band that is best experienced LIVE! Thank you Tobias for bringing the experience to Laval. Best live show in my 50 years...and the best smelling!
I'm a real Satanist. I'd like to applaud your generally positive & open attitude, which is not the considered stereotypical norm when it comes to Christians addressing subject matter of this nature. Your biblical knowledge is magnificent, beyond what I see from most Christians, and I was particularly impressed with your recognition of the non-biblical origins of those various entities and differing usage of 'Lucifer' in various editions. As others in these comments have stated, the song is more about humanity than "the devil". As with all Romantic Satanism and iterations of Literary Satan, any relation to biblical Satan is a poetic mask for fair & just deconstruction of arbitrary & tyrannical authority. As such, I'd like you to consider that what comes across as "genocide" on the surface is actually not about the fall of man, but rather the fall of The Reign of man. ie.. overly authoritarian structures & "the patriarchy". Moving without eyes means not "awake". Robotically following norms, traditions, rituals & orders without awareness of purpose, agenda or ramifications. Moving along with the herd, so to speak. It's not about things going on in the spiritual realm that you don't see. It's about things going on in the political realm that you don't see. Satanists aren't going to talk about the spiritual in any literal sense, because we only believe in the material. I'm not a LaVeyan Satanist, but Anton LaVey declared Year Zero in 1966 to mark the official beginning of the rise of Satanism.
I would say Faith because I think that it would make for a better conversation. I also personally like it better :P I would also love to see them listen to "Ghuleh/Zombie Queen" and then listen to the live acoustic version :D
I work with a Satanist and to be honest he is one of the most decent human beings I have ever met! will literally give you the shirt off his back type person!
One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of Satanists are actually secular non-theists. Satan as a metaphor is the ultimate symbol of independence and rebellion from authority. He's a figure that, as an archangel, would have absolutely *known* that he wouldn't be able to 'defeat' God. But he defied him anyway because it was what he thought he should do, he followed the courage of his convictions despite knowing it would doom him. So for a lot of people Satanism has about as much to do with Satan as Frosted Flakes have to do with Tony the Tiger. He's a symbol, but not believed in as a literal being.
There are two major forms of Satanism: LaVeyan and Luciferianism. LaVeyan is religious atheism, Luciferianism is TRUE devil worshiping theism. The easy way to tell the difference is if someone says they're a satanist, they're likely LaVeyan. If they don't say anything and a couple years later they're arrested for human sacrifices, they're Luciferian.
The entire bible is poetic license - it is absolutely not a history book! It's a very worthwhile and interesting historical study of the beliefs of ancient people, but c'mon guys...
No, I don't claim to be an authority on such things. Historical evidence suggests that religious texts are not valid in their claims (I mean, that's pretty obvious - Noah's Ark, anyone?). Maybe I should be a bit clearer - I have no doubt that some of the characters and stories are partially based on real happenings, and real people. That makes sense, given that they had to have something to write about, but the way the whole thing is embellished into this grand series of fanciful events beyond the possible comprehension of ancient humans is where the poetic license certainly comes into play.
And please don't think that I'm mocking you. It's just such a foreign concept for me that I didn't grow up with. I have a hard time believing the conviction of people who claim to believe deeply in religious stories.
motleydude73 lelz. Plenty of people claim to have found ark ruins on Mount Ararat, in eastern Turkey. Mount Sinai is supposedly somewhere in or near Egypt. There’s plenty of people out there desperate to produce ‘evidence’ of the ark myth. Some of them fabricate stories via evangelical blogs. If it were a proven fact there would be irrefutable evidence that would be accepted by the scientific community including historians and archeologists.
No offense; however, I'm an Atheist and it bothers me that you worship a God idea that you believe will send me to burn FOREVER for all time for something quite trivial. The trivial thing being that I do not that he sent himself down to die for the weekend in order to create a workaround for a rule that he made up and could simply change. You worship and love a god idea that has killed millions in the Bible, which turns out to be written by 44 anonymous authors who wrote about events that supposedly occurred hundreds of years before they were born. You must agree that your idea of god is of a being who is quite trivial and a moral thug. Have a great weekend.

You can't take Ghost seriously. What you sing/write about doesn't necessarily mean you are that way inclined. It is theatre (as mentioned before). Take a look at the influences of Ghost such as Kiss, Alice Cooper. They all played a character. That was not who they actually were in real life. Would you think the author of the Harry Potter books was a wizard just because she wrote about it? No, there is make believe in this world to create entertainment, Ghost is such a band.
Well, yeah. Screaming Jay Hawkins doesn't actually want to weave spells. Lordi doesn't actually want to eat people. GWAR doesn't actually want to give everyone Space AIDS through rape then feed them to a massive carnivore slug. So I mean...you know :P And Ghost portrays a Satanic Church where a ton of the Clergy are a bunch of frigging goofballs. So I feel you.
"Hell Satan" also means "Hail Satan" in liturgical Swedish. One can tell they are speaking Swedish in that line by how they pronounce Satan (more like "Sahtahn" than the English "Saytn").
As a Christian. I love Ghost. I see their music as a soundtrack to a occult horror film from the sixties or seventies. It doesn’t change my mind on anything. In fact, I think it’s an interesting point of view to see why someone would believe this. I respect them.
Gaaah this just hurt my poor soul... "She talks to spirits - how do you know theyre good - well, they told me they were good"... Yeah, you ridicule that? Yet here you are, christian, literally only believing "God is good" because the Bible (allegedly Gods Word) told you so. How can you not see the irony?!? I mean, believe what you want, I don't care, but at least do it without hypocrisy
they were the same band up until 2016 when at least 3 members left. Alpha (white guitar), Omega (black guitar) and the keyboardist. Omega started up their old band again, Magna Carta Cartel.
I believe Tobias also plays guitar in studio... Maybe not all but I'm pretty sure he plays on the albums.. Maybe even some Keys too.. Pretty sure the first Ghost demoes where just Tobias with a friend...

Hey Vin and Sori. Been following you for a while, first time commenting. I think. Anyway, thank you for this channel and your content. I love the honesty and intelligence you put into your videos. So to answer your question, about why it's important for Ghost to be satire or fake; To me it's not important. I appreciate them musically and lyrically and absolutely love their thematic style. Whether it's real or not doesn't bother me. I love the music and the band. They are unique, talented, and really a band to watch. Hell, each of their Albums sound different. Each Album even has a "new" frontman to reflect these style changes. While not true concept albums they each have a over arching theme. It's something I have never personally seen in music before. Also, according to the lyric book I have with the "Infestissumam" album (Ghost's second album) the line is indeed, "Hail Satan." So, as a Ghost fan, I say you should check out their newest album, "Prequelle." As for a song to do in a video, "Life Eternal" is something I believe both of you could sink your teeth into and get something out of it.
Interesting, I also listen to a lot of metal bands. But I've seen some Christians criticizing Ghost, one of them I saw said that when he heard Ghost he had his father possessed his mother had the gift of sight and his uncle practiced black magic. I admit it gives me goosebumps. Whether what this guy said is true or not I don't know, but it's ominous.
Lol, I looked up reaction videos for this for a laugh this morning because I knew it would make people uncomfortable (as an atheist, it STILL made me go "Yo, what the f*ck?"). I actually like these guys and am interested in their perspective, so I was like "Ooo! This ought to be interesting!" I was not disappointed. I LOVE learning about mythology, including that of Christianity, so I love hearing these little tidbits of information and perspective that you can only get from someone deep into the religion.
I love this reaction so much, especially the religious debates. You are the first that I've seen who actually differentiate between the devil and the princes of hell/principalities of sin. This song is so much more about embracing humanity and acknowledging the principalities of human nature as opposed to attempting to convert others to satanism, but yes many people do associate them with being a satanist recruitment group, however a lot of their lyrics are very much cynical in nature and more about calling out religious organizations as a whole as opposed to tearing them down.
In an interview one of the masked Ghost members, probably Tobias, said that he's intellectually an atheist but that no one knows what's going to happen after death, and if someone says otherwise they're lying to you, he also said that he wants to believe there's something bigger and he feels he taps into it, so it's pretty ambiguous where they're coming from belief point of view. My guess is that it's more an artistic inspired interchange between the satanic mythos and some of their personal spiritual desires, and less of a set in stone theological effort to genuinely worship satan as a real entity through their music.

The vast majority of satanists are atheists. So yes, this song is incredibly satanistic, but not in the way most people think, because they have an off perception of what satanism is.

Christians claiming an openly Satanist band is the best band ever...lol...wow.
@@TheVirtualNHL I know wtf 😆
Hail Satan!
of course, its an act. and we get damn good music from it. praise be those who dont take faith too seriously. for we are numerous.
If you actually look into the religion of Satanism they don’t really believe in Satan at all. One of the seven tenets states to base all belief on scientific fact. So basically they are satanic if you think about it. I am too. I even have a membership card and certificate to the official Satanic Temple 😂
People need to realise if religion is right then why are there so many lies
@@skeltnclique4718 the hand of man lay heavy on every religious document.
A central focal point.
very well said!!!

@@Rexxii_1 Hell Satan means hail Satan in Swedish. 'Hell' is an archaic word for 'hail'.
This song is one of those that just gets better every time you hear it
I think the reason we Christians have trouble with this music or feel uncomfortable about the lyrics is because we have trouble distinguishing the difference between the two devils.
I definently see what your saying though, and I agree

i remember reading an article where the lead singer Tobias Forge, said it's not to be taken seriously. he compared his music to being the equivalent of horror movies. he said that each song is basically a story, a horror movie made into a song.

Larry Kinnard than, they dropped the B.C.
And the B.C. apparently simply stood for "Because" BECAUSE they had to add something to the name.

B.C. only appears on the second album due to copyright worries. B.C. was always silent.

It’s priceless 🤣
I work with a Satanist and to be honest he is one of the most decent human beings I have ever met! will literally give you the shirt off his back type person!
Agree
Good point, Jason.
Luciferianism is not what you portray it as. And a simple google search would tell you.
The entire bible is poetic license - it is absolutely not a history book! It's a very worthwhile and interesting historical study of the beliefs of ancient people, but c'mon guys...
Cuz you said so?
The remains of the ark were discovered on Mt Sanai many years ago..it happened.

I literally just discovered Heilung like an hour ago... So weird to see them come up in the comment section here.
lol
Please react to Monstrance Clock. It's so out of place for Ghost but I love it.
Love your content, keep it up dudes!!
Michael Schroeder I love that song they should
One of my favorite Ghost songs
That song is ghost lol
Maybe not but it is my favorite.
they should react to a video of the ending segment of the live shows before monstrance clock
It’s a song about the female organism 🤣
I am a Catholic and can enjoy Ghost music, videos and on stage shows. Its art and I absolutely love art. Actually I see that as mockery to Satan and don't take those satanic stuff serious. If someone does and sees that as some serious Satanism then it's their problem, not mine. I'm with Jesus
That's exactly how I feel I am a Christian but I can listen to bands like this I don't let music like this mess or change what I truly believe about my faith in God Tom Arya of SLAYER is a devout catholic and he said people are not in good shape when people have to question their own beliefs over a song or story somebody wrote and I went to a catholic school growing up but I consider myself a open minded bible believing Christian now days
I- ... It's literally a mockery to the Catholic church lmao 😭💀
why cant people look up the real lyrics when making fan lyric videos. it just bugs the hell out of me, its supposed to be "penanance to burn" and "now behold the lord of flies"
And it's supposed to be hell Satan
@@opuspapaiii5486 Heil meaning pledge to.
I thought it said "he will trouble the nations"
@@HeadBlastedIts tremble...I think
I really like how you listen to your fans and pick music they ask. I’ve been on a ghost kick for about 2 months since i discovered them.
You guys have a channel? If so, lost the link please
*post
VinAnd Sori I did last year but didn’t last long. I got busy with work and lost time
Hey Vin and Sori.
Also, according to the lyric book I have with the "Infestissumam" album (Ghost's second album) the line is indeed, "Hail Satan."
So, as a Ghost fan, I say you should check out their newest album, "Prequelle." As for a song to do in a video, "Life Eternal" is something I believe both of you could sink your teeth into and get something out of it.
oh yeah Life Eternal would be a good one
Just saying the lyric is "Hell Satan" according to the printed lyrics.
I was raised Catholic. We went to church every Sunday I went to private school all my life and I absolutely positively LOVE Ghost!!
When you totally miss the point of Ghost...
Ain't that the truth, brother...
O-peth! O-peth! O-peth! Opeth!!!! Please 😅
I'd just like to add..... OPETH !!!! OPETH !!!
Especially, Ghost of Perdition.
Ali E. Milani Lol, NO! Jk idc what they pick, I just want an Opeth redemption
Windowpane
The Leper Affinity, Bleak, The Drapery Falls, Demon of the Fall, Ghost of Perdition, Masters Apprentice, Deliverance etc
And The Funeral Portrait
Crestfallen kings and queens comforting in their faith
, unbeknownst to them is the presence of the wraith... e.e
hey discowered you 2 days ago been bingewatching since... if you want something realy realy pretty try "Agalloch- In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion" journey of a song and my favorite from them (also not a bad song in whole album "The Mantle" try it peace!!!
Davis Recs yes agalloch! Nothing comes closes to them!
That's a beautiful song.
Davis Recs I've recommended this song a few times and seen it recommended on a bunch of videos. I'm honestly surprised they haven't done it yet!
this song.. this album helped me a lot in some rough times its criminal how underrated Agalloch is.. had the chance to see them live in 2008 (i think) at Vilnus Lithuania.
Agalloch is the best
I could watch this all day
Sori's school book told her that humans and dinosaurs existed at the same time?! WTF?
Love this shit! It's hilarious! It's like watching comic nerds discuss Canon of comic books. It's funny when people take art and books so seriously.
As both a Christian and a Ghost fan, I loved this
as someone who was raised christian, and is a christian (i think), ghost is top tier. i sing along to this song so often
My guess at why people have to say these guys are not legit satanists is that they watched some interviews with the band members where they explained some stuff regarding that. I also dont think they are, nor do i care, i just enjoy their music
Is it wrong I'm looking forward to the real Year Zero...? BTW you missed out on a wonderful official video.
Never will it be ^w^
FriarTuck102 The uncensored version is best 😉
Tobias Forge is an artist and entertainer using controversial subject matter. It’s brilliant because people will discuss his music and debate it. Ghost is becoming a big time band with a devoted audience that enjoy this style of rock music!
I'm a Christian and I absolutely love Ghost.
It's on my bucketlist to see them live one day.
**NIGHTWISH** "Ghost Love Score" Live at Wacken or "Seven Days to the Wolves" Live at Wembley Arena.
**JUDAS PRIEST** "A Touch of Evil" or "Beyond the Realms of Death".
You, my friend, have good taste.
5:19 THE EYEBROWRAISE AT THE SAME TIME I CANT
I'm surprised you haven't burst into flames from listening to this
This is the song that made my gf truly worried for me about worshipping Satan. 6 months later, she was singing this song at their concert! GHOST BABY!
