Let me try to make you understand why Ghost is so popular, Vin: Their compositions. Forge is simply a brilliant composer. He speaks the universal language of music fluently. His sense of melody, layers and so called hooks is so well developed that he can express anything he wants musically and that is true talent. He also knows not to shred too much, because although it may be impressive, it can also become quite boring. And that's what great musicians/composers do: they don't go all out all of the time, but they use building blocks that fit the overall song. That's why Ghost's songs sound so catchy and 'balanced' and that's why they are so popular.
I got a different meaning. It seems like it’s written about how believers live their life wearing rose colored glasses. Not realizing there isn’t a god and never seeing how the world is burning down around them.
If there's no god then there's no devil the only difference is the devil rules this world until god returns. I love ghost they are so unique but if you belive in Satan then there is a god
Scott Johnson gods and devils are man made creations. If you can prove a god then do it. Otherwise just admit it’s a comforting thought in your head. Still it would be cool if demons and angels were real and were at war.

Picking out a Ghost song here and there is fine, but it will never give you the full picture. Across the albums, there's a bit of story going on. At this part in the story, as others have stated, Humanity has just realized that God has abandoned them and the world is falling apart around them. Those with free will, however, are reveling in the chaos and anarchy. As far as their popularity: see them live, period. One of the best theatrical live shows currently, definitely right up there with the best (Rammstein, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, etc.). If they come close to your area - go see them, you will not be disappointed.

@@shspurs1342 yeah, a band in the USA had the rights to the name Ghost like 3 years ago, so they had to use BC. It was literally only a USA thing, and it lasted maybe a year.
@@Joelvete6 you mean excellent writing? marvelous melodies? mixed with heavy metal, progrock and a splash of pop? i think its the best combo ever, catchy choruses mixed with heavy riffs is a favorite of mine. For me Ghost is popular because of the presentation. The Papas, the Ghouls and now the Cardinal are unique characters in rock/metal. It's instant nostalgia when they replace a Papa. I can't listen to a Ghost song without picturing the Papa on that album. On top of that Tobias writes really catchy hard rock/metal songs. Also for what its worth, the band actually has a storyline across the lyrics of the first three albums. This song is about the people discovering and mourning the absence of God, who by this point in the story has abandoned humanity.

I can hear hints of the Oompa Loompa song in the opening. The phrasing, articulation, and harmony. Personally I think Ghost are amazing, they have a nice blend of pop, heavy metal, theatrics, and suggestive lyrical themes. And they are very fun live.
Ghost's attraction and brilliance is their simplicity. Ghost has been necessary for this modern era of rock to remind everyone still listening that a swinging beat and a grooving riff still have value. Not much unlike Nirvana did 30 years ago. Not everything in rock deserves to be swallowed up and forgotten about by the facemelting Dimebag solos & mesmerizing thunder shakings of the Joey Jordisons of the world. Rock forgot those lessons for a while. It got so caught up in advancing the craft of rock music that it overlooked maintaining the allure of rock music.
As usual, I side with Sori. Sorry Vin. 😉 🎶 Oompa-Loompa... 🎶 Obviously, they made a deal with the devil to become a big time rock band. Either that, or their live shows are just so good that they gained popularity the old-fashioned way: unique presentation which leads to strong word of mouth recommendations.
"Time is Mine" by Phil Anselmo & Tony Iommi. Most people don't even know that it exists but it's one of the greatest collaborations of all time. Pantera's vocalist meets Black Sabbath's guitarist (and pioneer of the genre itself).
They are popular because they are incredibly talent and make music people really really like. They change things up pretty consistently and it's all excellent. This coming from an old school metal head who's favorite band is Pantera. I've seen Ghost live 6 times, amazing show. Saw them with Iron Maiden a while back, about 3 songs in the Maiden fans were sold. There's a reason why the metal legends all love Ghost. They are carrying the genre forward. Black Sabbath started it, Iron Maiden/Priest carried it forward to Metallica, Pantera saved metal from itself from 1990-2000. Slipknot carried the banner for a while, and now Ghost is moving it forward.
One of their most underappreciated songs the groove on it is so early 70s almost ABBA type and its fucking brilliant this band just never fails to deliver for me you guys should check out some stuff from one of my all time favorite bands the clash
Ghost is so popular because they encorperate subtle Pop Rock sensibility to their songs. Dave Ghroll from the Foo Fighters/Nirvana drums for them sometimes. He just puts on the getup and heads on stage. There's also a feeling of "ooo this is naughty, but it's not some metal vocalist grunting cookie monster sounds" Plus it has a 70's sort of Blue Oyster Cult meets Black Sabbath vibe. They started out being hugely popular in the Netherlands and just exploded.
I see influence from Yes (roundabout beginning), I agree on the Willy Wonka style delivery. Overall I love Tobias’ willingness to go anywhere in his work. Good song.
I totally get the rhythmic similarity to the oopma loompa song. 😂😂😂 Vin is so adamant that there’s no similarity. It amuses me how hard-headed he is. If I was married to him it would be one long debate because I’d be demanding empirical data behind every Vin "fact". Not because I necessarily believe he’s wrong about *everything* , but because he comes across as believing that there’s no way he’s wrong about anything. I *love* discussions with people like that. 😁🤘🏻
Your imaginations running down your face... your fears of a devil that holds people captive by their minds is an example of an imagination running down your face.
They're so big because quite frankly there is no other band with this level of genius in the song writing both lyrically and instrumentaly... Aaaand there's their incredible theatrical presence.... They tick every box you can imagine. Also, how good a piece of music is does not rely on how difficult it is to play.
I have been binge watching your videos for a while and been enjoying what i have seen so far, great conversations on some of them too👍. I think the next Ghost reaction is long overdue though, i would recommend few songs, Miasma(awesome instrumental, mummy dust, stand by him or death knell are some of my favourites.
Ghost is so popular because they are so likeable on and off the stage, they have a cool gimmick and spectular shows, great stage presence and their music speaks to the masses. And the fact that their songs are easy enough to learn also helps their accessability in a sense. If you play an instrument you usually want to learn your favorite songs by certain bands, and with Ghost it doesn't require a higher level of skill to do that which most appreciate since most are beginner to intermediate level players on their respective instrument. Oh and they are catchy too. Ghost is arena music where the crowd can be very engaged in the songs. They are the ultimate mainstream band. If anything they should be big and popular because they have everything going for them opposite to underground bands. They are out there and not kept away. If you want to make it in this millenial age dominated by pop and EDM you have to reach out with one or the other or both influenced in your music. And Ghost is currently a pop rock band as they went in that direction with their latest album which opens up more to those wanting catchy and sing along friendly music like pop which the majority of people and especially kids and teenagers do... Sadly.
@25:00 why? because might does not make right, infinite punishment for finite crimes is immoral; the strong owe the week care, the parent owes the child care, and not the other way around. acting from obedience cannot be moral.
Really appreciate your videos 😁 my personal favourite ghost song is witch image, it's quite unique to their other songs and definitely worth a reaction ♥️♥️♥️
An interesting read for anyone who hasn't read it is the Ann Rice book Memnoch the Devil. It's part of the Vampire Chronicles, but a very different take on Lestat and his meeting with the devil
The songs are only similar on the same albums. Each album has a personality. The new ep 7" of Satanic Panic is literally meant to be a 60/70s throwback sound and is completely different form everything else. The range that the Tobias and The Nameless have is what makes them so phenomenal. Meliora, The album that Deus in Absentia is on, is heavily inspired by the film Metropolis and it is the reason it has some mechanical clockwork themes. The album plays with an alternate reality in which the band has succeeded in spreading it's darkness across the world and the lack of Capital "G" God has made the world a better place, hence the title Meliora which is roughly latin for "better." Also Tobias Forge has often said that the Devil and darkness that the band creates music about is really just a pop-culture devil not really the Judeo Christian Devil. I know technically people of the faith would lump those two together as the Devil is supposedly quite the trickster. Anyway my own opinion is that the Antichrist, who is a common figure in the first three albums, is the narrator who has become disappointed with someone looking to the light for guidance when so much wrong has been done in its name. The newer albums almost explore the history of the fake dark clergy that the band belongs to and sound way different than the older stuff.
My best friend and I where looking for the fan video made by LunaOblivion that is awesome for this song( it’s our favorite Ghost song) and saw your reactions !! Great job as always; we were discussing Old Ghodt and New Ghost but love em both!!!
Its not if you can play it or not. They are really talented. It doesnt matter if its hard to play. Look at any Pink Floyd songs. They are easy to play, but its a certain feeling that starts in your ears and finds a way deep inside your "soul".
November's Doom is coming (it will be a bit though, patron requests are backlogged, so probably about 2 months. But its 100% going to happen) . Saw you have been requesting this since forever, so I wanted to give you a little peace of mind.,
I agree with siri about sounding similar to umpa lumpa song. As for ghost being big, some people like big complex pieces, some people like it small and simple, some people like a balance of both, both in the same song, and balancing between their playlists.
It’s time you reviewed a second QUEENSRYCHE song. You loved ‘Eyes Of A Stranger’ last year. I recommend ‘Silent Lucidity’ their biggest hit. It went Top 10 in 91 and was nominated for Grammys and AMAs and nominated for 5 MTV Video awards, winning one, beating R.E.M.s Losing My Religion in the Viewers Choice category. It is a beautifully lush ballad with strings by Michael Kamen of Metallica fame as well as many film scores. You will love it so much I think. Video is great too. Please use the studio version or official video version. No good quality live clips. Trust me. Sooo good.
They're big because their melodies are fuggin' top notch. I'm a metal dude, and can appreciate and love impressive virtuosity as much as the next metal guy, but before all that, I'm a melody guy. Ghost write beautiful melodies and that shouldn't always be mistaken for being too poppy because it's catchy. In my mind, understanding and writing good melody can be just as much of a task as writing big complex, lengthy solos or what have you.
The album Meliora, which this song is closing, is centered around a world with divine absent. So what I get from that album and this song, is that a world without religion and God is a dark and depressing place. Deus in absentia is a very dark song, and you can really hear that when the Gothic choir sings at the end. The tone of the choir says it all. And also by which key this song is played in. Well this is just what I get from it. Also on the point about why Ghost is as big of a band as they are, short answer is, their live shows! Such an amazing production and performance. I saw them live in Gothenburg the other week and it is the best show I have seen since Maiden. Kind regards, A fellow Christian from Sweden God Bless!

You never disappointed me I love your reactions vín and sori you should. See a live performance from ghost any song they re so good live greetings from Mexico
I love how deep in thought vin is at times during this song... Reflecting away
Today is Tobias Forge's birthday. And mine too 😁🤘🏾
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Happy birthday!!! nemA!!!🔥
Thank you!
Me too! Happy birthday!
Now have to wait an entire year for a new Ghost reaction :'c
:'(
Song suggestions:
Ghost - Witch Image
Queensrÿche - Queen Of The Reich
Ozzy Osborne - I Don’t Wanna Stop
As usual, I side with Sori. Sorry Vin. 😉 🎶 Oompa-Loompa... 🎶
Obviously, they made a deal with the devil to become a big time rock band.
Great song! Everything Tobias does is perfection! 💞💞💞
See them live. Then you'll know why they are so big and have such a huge follow.
I've been recently learning this song on guitar. So glad to see this pop up in my feed!!
Ghost- spirit
12:47 vin looks proud of himself
How do you give a song you don't like 8.5 out of 10? Do you know how numbers work?
Just Bc I don’t like it doesn’t mean it was a bad song
@@VinAndSori yet you rated Imagine super low....
Slipknot carried the banner for a while, and now Ghost is moving it forward.
yassss!! thanks vin and sori!!
One of their most underappreciated songs the groove on it is so early 70s almost ABBA type and its fucking brilliant this band just never fails to deliver for me you guys should check out some stuff from one of my all time favorite bands the clash
Sori, I agree with you on the Umpa Lumpa thing.
It was the first thing I thought when it came out.
Rachel Proud Village Maggot as do I
yep. We were just commenting in the discord chat about how Sori was spot on.
@@khellendross3573 Vin is so out of touch, lol
Umpa Lumpa is better
Ghost is so popular because they encorperate subtle Pop Rock sensibility to their songs. Dave Ghroll from the Foo Fighters/Nirvana drums for them sometimes. He just puts on the getup and heads on stage. There's also a feeling of "ooo this is naughty, but it's not some metal vocalist grunting cookie monster sounds" Plus it has a 70's sort of Blue Oyster Cult meets Black Sabbath vibe. They started out being hugely popular in the Netherlands and just exploded.
"...it has a 70's sort of Blue Oyster Cult meets Black Sabbath vibe..." lmao
There are some similarities with the oompa loompa song in the phrasing, not much though, but I do get where you are coming from, Sori!
I see influence from Yes (roundabout beginning), I agree on the Willy Wonka style delivery. Overall I love Tobias’ willingness to go anywhere in his work. Good song.
Jon O ?
If you ever get the chance to see Ghost live, do so, they put on an amazing show.
If you listen to this chorus and are confused about why Ghost is so popular then I don't know what to say
Melody is king
FINALLY SOME GHOST I missed this so much and Sori is always right- even when she is wrong 😚😚
I think the next Ghost reaction is long overdue though, i would recommend few songs, Miasma(awesome instrumental, mummy dust, stand by him or death knell are some of my favourites.
witch image!
Love me some Ghost !
Sadly.
I love the ghost videos, congrats for the video, hello from brazil 🇧🇷🇧🇷
@25:00 why? because might does not make right, infinite punishment for finite crimes is immoral; the strong owe the week care, the parent owes the child care, and not the other way around. acting from obedience cannot be moral.
Do Witch Image by Ghost...
Really appreciate your videos 😁 my personal favourite ghost song is witch image, it's quite unique to their other songs and definitely worth a reaction ♥️♥️♥️
Lol you both r funny, and that does make sense cause i didnt fully understand the song either but thanks to you two.
Arch Enemy - We Will Rise + Fields of Desolation (LIVE Tyrants of the Rising Sun 2008)
Opeth - Demon of the Fall!!
See them live!
I watched your ghost videos all day
An interesting read for anyone who hasn't read it is the Ann Rice book Memnoch the Devil. It's part of the Vampire Chronicles, but a very different take on Lestat and his meeting with the devil
Ghost - Witch image
They are huge because no other band is doing this right now. It's pure genius
Its definitely a trope to the “spooky” classic horror movie themes. The whole intro is like a monster/ vampire lurking in the dark
You guys still haven't done witch image by ghost!
Ghost- Pro Memoria
Can you please give us a feed on In Flames new Album or even maybe there new music video Call my name..
Well it IS about a relationship... between the devil and us sinners. :)
12:28 We need a ten hour loop of this Sori-Aaaaaaaaaaaah!
Hello Sori and Vin,
PANTERA: THROES OF REJECTION!
stay well guys, much love.
How about you guys watch "Lords of Chaos" and discuss it on here? That would be cool.
What Sori says about selling your soul is what the character of God says in the movie Bedazzled.
Listen to Witch Image or Stand by him
My best friend and I where looking for the fan video made by LunaOblivion that is awesome for this song( it’s our favorite Ghost song) and saw your reactions !! Great job as always; we were discussing Old Ghodt and New Ghost but love em both!!!
Yes, we need more Ghost and you have some good tunes from them left to react to :)
i just had to comment for once, i never thought of the oompa loompa songs sounding like this until now. YES that is great and i agree.
Vin& Sori be sure to react to (Say You'll Haunt Me) from Stonesour you'll enjoy it!
I hear what Sori is talking about the OOmpa. Just the same with any Tim Burton (Nightmare Before Xmas) type song.
Its not if you can play it or not. They are really talented. It doesnt matter if its hard to play. Look at any Pink Floyd songs. They are easy to play, but its a certain feeling that starts in your ears and finds a way deep inside your "soul".
Novembers Doom - Autumn Reflection

November's Doom is coming (it will be a bit though, patron requests are backlogged, so probably about 2 months. But its 100% going to happen) . Saw you have been requesting this since forever, so I wanted to give you a little peace of mind.,
@@khellendross3573 cool, thanks for the help.
Boston - Peace of Mind
Scorpions - In Search of the Peace of Mind
Trouble - Peace of Mind
I agree with siri about sounding similar to umpa lumpa song.
As for ghost being big, some people like big complex pieces, some people like it small and simple, some people like a balance of both, both in the same song, and balancing between their playlists.
You should watch the actual music videos from ghost adds so much more.
Kind regards,
A fellow Christian from Sweden
God Bless!
I got an add for Rockabillia.com, and then a Ghost band shirt popped up on the side of my computer. Nice.
Thank you. I love this song.
