Wow, holy instant reaction Batman! Even before the comparison I was hugely impressed with how black this had become but then after seeing the side-by-sides... I don't know why this isn't higher on the hive-mind radar (to the point that I think I've _never_ seen it recommended somewhere) seems to me it's always Super Blue or Perma Blue with Oxpho sort of trailing in third. I just did a shallow dive online and I'll be interested to see how effective it is on other projects. Keep up the good work!
Wow that looks like it worked really well. I really want to try a blue and paste next. After watching your videos I really need to get some conditioning belts.
That turned out really nice. I like the single coat, saves a little time and money. Thanks for the video. Everything I know about liquid bluing I learned here.
Okay I'm sold, I love how dark this works. I've been using the Oxypho mostly but definitely going to give this a try! Thanks for sharing your testing videos are great!
I've seen that brand before.I wondered how it well it worked or if there was any difference. I might pick some up when my current bottle of bluing solution runs out.
Just used this product on a vintage axe head after removing rust and polishing to bare metal. Worked great and this stuff is cheaper than other brands. I heated up the axe head with a hair dryer and applied with foam brush. Rinsed, dried and rubbed in 3in1 oil with 0000steel wool. Very impressed. Thanks for the review!
I am definitely going to try this product out, I could see the difference immediately on application from previously blued products you have done, you found a winner in my book sir. Thank you for sharing and I appreciate your time and effort put into this review.
"Once I had it clean, I went ahead and cleaned it again" ,, That's enough for me,, subbed,,, A man after my own heart,, 👍👍👍 All the best from across the pond,, 🇬🇧
I wonder how good it works for touch ups ? I have a RBH that had some minor rust on it before I owned it. The former owner removed the rust and some of the factory bluing. I don't want to send it back to the factory to be redone in fear that the common carrier might lose it wink wink. I just want to improve it's looks.
I recently decided to have a go at this bluing lark and purchased a brand called Phillips professional blue. I was doing a record number one vice and fancied bluing the jaws, handle, main screw etc. I don’t know if it was bad brand or I didn’t sand it enough or clean it enough but it didn’t work out so well. Not the finish I was hoping for I’m afraid. I think I need to practice a bit more and pay more attention to the prep.
Looks nice and dark with one coat...wonder how it will hold up ?? Does it give any rust protection ?? Did you ever test just heating a part up to cherry red then quenching in dirty motor oil ?? 🖖
Cold bluing is just for looks. It doesn't add any corrosion protection. Check out my "Three Options for Bluing Steel" video: th-cam.com/video/QkcKGgHGRo8/w-d-xo.html
So if you still have all five products, maybe you could do a head to head comparison off all five with several identical washers for each? Blue them all and compare how they look, but then expose one of each by leaving them outside for a few weeks with sun and rain exposure. Also treat one of each with saltwater or something similar. Keep one of each safe as a control to compare to the ones exposed. Maybe consider testing the with and without a coat of oil applied. That way we can see if the protection is really from the oil.
The cold blue solutions are acid based and will corrode the steel. That's why the directions have us rinse the part and soak it in oil to neutralize the acid. Rust bluing is the only process I've tried that actually adds corrosion protection.
I have never missed one of your videos. I remember you taking the plating off washers for testing. I just thoughtyou could revisit with a new product added to the mix.@@357magdad
Very impressive results MagDad. My next video includes my first attempt at bluing - it came out OK, but not nearly as good as this. I'm going to try G96 next time. Regards, Bill.
I've had mixed results with the cold bluing solutions. I think the steel alloy plays a role. The Birchwood Casey products seem really sensitive to contamination.
I enjoyed this video, and I have never worked with a product of this type. How well does this aid in preventing corrosion? Also, does it do anything to make the metal more durable at all? It can't possibly do what heat-treating / bluing would do, can it?
WOW, that turned out brilliantly. I use 'ABBEY' Gun Solution Blu Gel here in England, and it's nowhere near as good as what you have. Such a dark colour - looks gorgeous. Thanks for sharing your various hobbies. Take care 🙂
Holy smokes! I had been touting Presto Mag as the darkest but this is on another level! I can tell you though that I will be keeping to Presto Mag for some applications where I need to match the color of rust bluing. Which is to say, I’ll pick up some G96 but Presto Mag is still the perfect match if you need to blend a bright surface recently worked with an adjacent patina
Make sure your item is un-plated carbon steel. Cold bluing solutions will not work on plated steel, stainless steel or light alloys. Also make sure your item is very clean. I use denatured alcohol, but acetone or brake cleaner will also work.
@@357magdad oh so this won't work on a glock slide damn that sucks had it soaking I'm degreaser for 48 hours and wiped it down and bone dried it ok thanks for letting me know this now looks like imma have to order me duracoat for this then

How easy does it scratch off compared to your other tests? Love the dark look of it for sure.
All of the cold blue products are pretty fragile. I want to try in on some handles to see how it wears.
@@357magdad I would like to see how that goes. Thanks for sharing!
Surprised how dark! Thanks for sharing.
So was I Tony!
Wow! That was fast and it got really dark with just one coat. Impressive.
I was surprised!
I was surprised also when i saw how fast it worked and how dark it got.
Wow! That looks great! I will have to find other uses for my steel wool stash if I buy that stuff.
I'm looking forward to trying it on some projects!
One coat vs multiple coats might make it considerably cheaper than other options.
I'll have to try it on some handles to see how it holds up with use.
Looks really nice! I wonder how it would look with a fine buffing of steel wool.
I tried some 0000 steel wool and it did dull it some.

Getting the part super clean is key. I usually go over the part three times with denatured alcohol. Heating the part in warm water seems to help too.
Thanks for the review Magdad. This is something I would like to try and the G96 gives a very nice deep dark bluing.
I was impressed with the color after just one coat!

Rather than saltwater try using distilled water. If washers are used make sure they are not galvanized or treated with a non-corrosive coating.

Thanks!
Thanks for the review. 😊
Viewers who have tried the G96 have told me that they have had good success with it.
Can it be used over top of a different bluing product?
And, will it stand up to buffing with steel wool?
First question - don't know. Second question -buffing with steel wool will dull the finish.

It seems like it!
I got to try that solution
Let me know what you think Larry!
Awesome!

Nice job
Thank you!
G96 is the best among all.
My experience with G96 is that it gives the darkest finish.
Did you try the g96 gun blue cream?
I have not.
Question: do you blue all the internals like the block and firing pin as well?
Cold bluing is mostly a decorative finish.
Amazing how dark it gets with a single coating
I was impressed!
How long did you leave it on the metal?
15-30 seconds per the package directions.
Where to order this product?
I pinned an Amazon link in the comments.
Bought this stuff friday came in today and didn't work like at all
