    That Craftsman motor
    Was really a steal.
    It’s just in time
    For Joe’s fiber wheel.
    Neat looking fits-all
    With the hook on the end
    What is that used for?
    Scratch an itch on your friend?
    I thought it was over-
    With Flitz-but instead-
    Out came the accent
    With ScoutCrafter red.
    Looking forward to the next polishing test project. Maybe on wood and brass? Thanks for the fun. 🤠

    The fiber wheels are great, I have been using them for several years. Originally designed for deburring which they are great at. I have a Craftsman just like yours, I have buffing wheels on it. Nice restore, nice touch with the red.

    Is using a fiber wheel similar to using a Scotch bride pad? Im looking to make my polishing quicker than it currently is. And would you recommend it for something you don't want to change the temper of like a knife?
    Thanks!

    • @357magdad
      @357magdad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! I think you should give the fiber wheels a try!
      Another option is making your own scotch brite discs for your Dremel!
      th-cam.com/video/uCRZWntX01g/w-d-xo.html
      Any time you are working with hardened steel like a knife or a chisel, etc you need to be careful how hot you get the metal. I usually work without gloves on so I can feel the temp on the piece I'm working on. If it gets to hot to touch I stop and dunk it in water.

    Good review,. It did give a good shine. I have a hi speed grinder 3600 RPM, should the wheel be used with a lower RMP? I am trying to make up my mind if I need a lower speed grinder I think I would like both.

    • @357magdad

      I have them on a 3450 rpm grinder. A buffing machine runs slower and usually has longer shafts which would be handy.

    The finish you got from just the fiber wheels is plenty good enough for a work tool...It is nicer looking when polished..If you could find some one to plasma cut out a bunch of those wrenches they would be nice for give away tools with a channel logo on them..Maybe make your own design for a wrench to sell since not many people need a spanner wrench

    Hey Magdad, I’ve been using these for a couple of years and wouldn’t be without them. I also have 180 and 320 on my machine but there are five different grades up tp 1000 grit available. I also have them to fit my 5” angle grinder and I tend to interchange those a fair bit but just leave the same two on the bench grinder as going from 180 to 320 to the buffer gives me a great result. I wear a respirator, not just a dust mask, as that nylon? gets turned into a very fine dust that really irritates my sinuses. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺

    • @357magdad
      @357magdad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found it difficult to tell a difference in the finish the two wheels produced. The darker grey wheel is definitely made of softer stuff.

    • @scroungasworkshop4663
      @scroungasworkshop4663 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      357magdad. I can understand that but perhaps next time you use them do one side with with the 180 and then do half of the same side with the 320 and see how that goes. I believe these were invented by 3M but of course the quality coming out of China can be “questionable”.
      Don’t forget a decent mask. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺

    Immediately after Joe's Shop talked about these, I ordered some. They are fantastic for certain things - they are like a step between sandpaper and buffing. In metal restoration, I still start with a wire wheel unless it's soft like copper and brass. They do wear out pretty quick, but otherwise are great!

    Those fiber wheels did pretty great I’ll have to buy a couple sometime. The tool turned out really nice, and it didn’t look like it took that much effort on the grinder before those wheels gave it a nice shine. I wonder if they make a 600 grit wheel?

    Great score on the Craftsman grinder; at a similar sale, I found a home-made grinding/polishing wheel set-up put together by an old gun collector using an electric motor from an old appliance and a century old cast iron device with a belt driven center pulley, poured bearings, oiling caps and a steel arbor with each end threaded for bolting on polishing or grinding wheels, and all bolted to heavy piece of wood, the kind you are hard-pressed to find in this day and age. I have my fiber wheels ready to mount. Thanks for the tip on the possible need for reducers in mounting the fiber wheels.

    maybe its just me, but it looked like the 180grit did a better job with less scratches than the 320. unless those lines are from the wire wheel.

      Thanks for watching! Having used both wheels quite a bit now, I don't really find much difference in the finish they produce. I mostly use the wheel that gives me best access to the part I'm polishing.

    I'm looking to remove scratches from steel and create a brushed steel look. Would these Fiber wheel discs do the job? Or would you recommend a metal wire wheel for this? Thanks

    • @357magdad
      @357magdad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! It really depends how deep the scratches are. If they are deep, you may have to sand the item before using something like the fiber wheel. My home made scotchbrite discs for the Dremel can give a nice satin finish.

      It got hot, but not that hot. Probably about as hot as a buffing wheel would get it.

    • @357magdad
      @357magdad  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! I'm not familiar with MDF or felt wheels. You can't squish the fiber wheels with your fingers. They are aggressive enough to throw sparks when in use.
