  • Modern life can be really hectic and stressful sometimes. This fast pace lifestyle filled with pressure and expectations can make us sick and unhappy. Slow living and living a simpler life can offer a way out of this ongoing cycle. A way to relax and live a happier life. In this video I share some thoughts on living a slower life, positive self talk and deleting social media.
Perhaps you will find an activity in this video that inspires you to change something for yourself :)

Hello everybody, this is Felix writing from the currently very rainy Swiss countryside 🌧This is a new format that I wanted to try out and see how you liked it. I share a more personal side of myself which was definitely a step out of the comfort zone at times 😅 Let me know, if you enjoyed this kind of format and feel free to share topic ideas for the future. I wish you all a great (hopefully not as rainy 😂) sunday and will talk to you very soon!🍀

As someone now retired, I wish I had slowed down earlier in my life. I did not find joy in the rat race, in the party scene, or being among lots of people or noise. I know those things suit some people, but for more introverted types it can be unpleasant. I love nature, to read, listen to music, and walk/hike. My peers did not want these things and I always felt left out. I think you are doing the right thing for yourself, and at the end of the day, we all should do what is right for us. A slow life is not for all, but it is for quite a lot of people. I admire what you are doing, and I wish I had the courage when I was young to do the same. Stay true to yourself, be authentic and you will find your niche. I love this format, it is sincere and authentic and just lovely to listen to.

I see myself so much in this. In the US hustle culture is rampant and I fell right into it. I experienced all of the same symptoms you mentioned and had to take time to slow down and care for myself. Slow living has been essential to my peace.

Oh my goodness. We have so much in common. I live in Switzerland. I've recently been burnt out. I've recovered, but I've realised a slower life is a necessity. It is very brave of you to speak so openly to the world.
One thing I've realised is that I was not looking after myself enough. I gave work so much that I had little left for me. I was eating poorly because i had no time to cook properly. Working alone. Living alone also does not help. I need to be kinder to myself.

    • @swisssimpleton

I hope you heal back up soon and can take some time for yourself 🙏
It sometimes is so hard isn't it? You give so much at work that giving something back to yourself becomes almost unimportant or the remaining energy is simply not enough. I see that to be the case for so many people and try my best to not fall into that trap (which is not always easy!).
Wish you all the best! 🍀

Thank you for your open and honest videos. It’s very refreshing. I started studying Stoicism a year ago which has helped me mentally, to accept the things outside of my control and in 2024 I’ve decided to adopt Frugality with my money, essentialism, slow living and minimalism. I’ve grew up in the country myself and when I visited New York for the first time in 2011 it was a wild and exciting experience but after a day there I felt exhausted by all the hustle, the noise, and the bombardment of ads etc. my anxiety went to a new level. After day 3 I had to leave. I told myself I’d never live in the city after that. I agree with you 100% about city living. It’s not the atmosphere I want to be in. I’m glad to be living in a small town that has some shops on the outskirts of town but I’m outside of the heart of the city which is nice. I also agree with your assessment about the hustle culture. It’s so bad here in the US. In a job that I had for 5 years, I went above and beyond all the time. I took on projects and additional tasks thinking it would give me attention for a promotion or at least get a higher raise. I was wrong. I ended up getting “meets expectations” and the same amount of raise. I sacrificed my mental health thinking Is benefit by going above and beyond, would get me somewhere but it didn’t. I had to learn that my job is not me. My worth isn’t my job or how much money I make. In 2021 I got laid off due to the impact covid 19 had on the company. I decided to take a job that had less responsibilities (but it actually paid more) and now I’m in such a better space mentally. I don’t care to be rich. As long as I can pay my bills, eat and save some money, I’m good. In 2024 I decided to leave social media, for so many reasons. I can tell my mental health has already improved. Instead of doom scrolling, I’m reading a book or watching an educational documentary. I’m slowing down and taking time for myself now. I adopted frugality where I budget my money and have stopped using door dash, Amazon, cancelled subscription services etc. I stop and ask myself “Do I really need this?” Instead of impulse purchasing. Also I’m moving in May and I’m decluttering which had made me adopt minimalism. I will only keep those things of deep value to me going forward. I play tennis, run and doing biking and lost 30 pounds going from 200lbs to 170lbs by building a healthy routine and workout for the last couple years but 2024 is where the big changes are coming. I’m glad to have learned about slow living and so lucky I found your channel! Sorry for the long post but wanted to share my journey as well! Looking forward to watching more videos on your channel! Take care! ☮️

You are so right.. Before I knew about my braintumor I wrote a book. The Key, to live life happier and I mention many things in there that are actually the same as what you mention.
When happy with less and nature and yourself, this life, slowing down, you are happier and healthier than People who chase things, chase happiness outside themselves, consume to fill voids, always rush etc... These days we are being lived if we let that happen, instead of actually just living, just breathing and just being.. ❣️

Hi, I really like this new video format, it is more relatable and natural. I really appreciate you sharing your life learning with us. I think all of us who are looking for a slow lifestyle have gone through a bitter and hard time before, I personally had to go through a job that was very stressful, causing me continuous anxiety attacks and sleepless nights to realise that this was not the life I wanted for myself. Seeing other people's "perfect lives" on social media didn't help either and I was beating myself up thinking that my life was a mess because I was a mess too. Despite that hard time, I am grateful for all the learning that came after my "awakening". I left that hellish job that was taking my life little by little, I deleted all the social networks from my mobile phone and I started to listen to my body and my mind, to take care of myself, to be kind to myself and thanks to that I came to the slow and minimalist lifestyle. Every day I am happier with who I am and the life I am creating for myself and my loved ones.
Life has taught me that everything happens for a reason and that the bad moments bring with them a learning process that will make us grow in some way.
Have a wonderful week you and your wife. Greetings from Spain 😊

I like to say I did my time in those enviros. I took early medical retirement from big tech by 40, whistleblower, after working 22 years. I disengaged with the Ironman Triathlon community I sought belonging within and never truly found. Deleted all social media, detached from family and old friends and killed my persona. As I've become nobody, I notice people want to bulldoze over me much more. I have to be diligent and intentional about slowing down and maintaining healthy internal and external boundaries. I was doing all of that with underlying medical conditions that gave me much more trauma in healthcare and deepened autistic burnout. I don't think I am meant to be here as long as others, hence the faster pace earlier in life.

This video spoke to me and I appreciate it as a man - there are a lot of videos from women about slow living (that are great, and very relaxing videos), but I related to what you were saying about feeling a pressure around achieving and "hustling". Being a OAP now, is great 😊 I had a great life, but it was erratic when we were younger & in business with children etc., Now the slow life is great. I do believe young people shouldn’t slow down too much unless it’s health issues. Being young you should experience a fast life, slowing down too quickly can age you too fast. But it’s a process & a personal one always! Just enjoy your time on this earth 🌎

Hi Felix, I'm Jan, born in Germany but living in Switzerland since years, have the Swiss cititizenship. Live in a suburb of Lucerne with house and garden, wich I enjoy. But now have serious trouble with my neighbour because of the trees in our garden. Came to the point to leave it all because of this, going really in the countryside, not just suburbia. But because I have a wife and 2 kids and they don't want to leave the place I'm feeling like trapped. Even with all the things you install in your life (e.c. no smartphone, TV, fitnessabo and so on).
I'm 55 j old now and my experience is, that sometimes life just sucks and dark times are a part of life, you often can't avoid😢.

I truly enjoyed this talk, and it's only my second video watching you. I believe what you are taking about is an extremely important sujbect that most of us need to hear in this world that has been overtaken with craziness, consumerism, consumption and busy-ness. Developing more of the mindset you talk about here, is going to help many find that they don't need medications and consumtion, nor comparison, to feel better about their lives. Each person can decide as they go, what simple and mindful living is for them, and then begin to practice that. Please keep talking about these things and what you are enjoying in your life in the gental and calm manner you have. Thank you.❤

Hello Felix, I'm new here and I discovered your channel by chance and so far, from what I've seen, I like what I've seen and heard, thank you for that. In relation to the video format adopted today, it is a super interesting format as it makes the content more personal and spontaneous, which allows us to reflect on the topic covered and draw some insights from it. Therefore, society has been facing, for some time now, the lifestyle of comparison and competition, via social media and social interaction, associated with a heavy burden of perfectionism, which generates a high level of stress in people due to the fear of not being able to being enough, of not trusting oneself, of wanting to live the lives of others and not what each one of us really wants for ourselves, with the fear of being rejected, ridiculed, of being different from others in the end of showing the its authenticity.
In my process of adopting a slow and simple lifestyle, it was necessary to abandon two important things, which in itself is already a big and complicated step, perfectionism and multitasking, both related to each other, which in itself they only generate a high level of stress in us, since we are giving and demanding more than what we can give/do. Finally, I leave you with 4 interesting books to read to help us throughout this process, which in itself is not easy and requires a great deal of patience and resilience (the process itself and not the books 🤭) - The Mountain Is You by Brianna Wiest, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle, Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by Jammes Clear, Listen to Your Body, Your Best Friend on Earth by Lise Bourbeau.

People need to be slow. I need to be slow. I'm South Korean and I living in the biggest city of this country. I got the hard job, almost burned out, and I got depression and panic attack. Maybe almost 8 years ago... I'm using some pills and workout and street walk listen to music and read some books... Everything I did and try but, I realized. This is another way to push myself. This is like, I determined to do something. And I think "This is must do. If I quit, I'm a jerk"... Nah, anyway, I want to live slower and I want to close to nature like you. I think I really need it. I god married with my wife to the last year and I got a security job. Long time work but, not bad. I'm trying to using my day off for recharging myself. Spend time with my wife, listen to music and reading my favorite books and do workout again soon. Actually, I envy you a little but, yeah. This is my life so, I'm gonna reach my real life to myself. Sorry for my bad english and bad writing. Thanks for sharing your story and I got inspired from you. Keep enjoy your life. And I will do too! 😄

It's like everything had to go awry, or experience near-death before I got the idea to move the heck out of the toxic environment. Then in the countryside I realised the trouble was the dissonance within and there were so many demons to wrestle with before I learned to be kind to myself...I found solace and moments of clarity in reading. One I particularly love is R.M. Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet:
"...Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princes[ses] who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love."
I recently re-read Arabian Nights and discovered the importance of differentiating ones' own story from the collective stories happening near and far.
I love the unscripted format. Cheers and best regards!🇧🇻⚘️

I'm fairly glad I've encountered your channel within countless numbers of others:). Your point resonates with mine, though I'm 18 y.o. now. I've already experimented lots of different stuff, including moving to study in China, where I'm currently typing from. I learnt so many things from TH-cam, including TH-cam channels like yours. I am also going to live a modest life without pushing myself to all those limits just to become "wealthy". I also don't really care about luxury and am more than comfortable living frugally. However, it's going to be tough for me since I'm from Russia and am healthy as hell, so I can't go back until I turn 30 years old in order to avoid an immediate conscription against my will 😢. It would be so much easier living in a peaceful country and making just enough money to cover my basic needs without the necessity to rent an apartment abroad. Hope I'll be successful in my stuff anyway. 😅
Good luck, man, have a wonderful year. Will definitely keep watching your channel😄.

I love this video and the format, i was able to get a cup of tea myself and it felt like catching up with a friend over a tea. I find it fascinating when you talk about your old self because i see a lot of parallels with myself as I've just started my journey to slowing down and being kinder to myself. I love your honesty in admitting that you still struggle yourself some days and its a constant journey to better yourself. I would be interested in you covering within a video if you have managed to successfully incoporate slow living into stressful/busy days. I had a stressful friday and it felt like the concept of slow living went out the window, i blinked and the day was gone and the stress of the day stayed in my head at night like a hangover. I was able to take saturday and sunday (today) to reset and get back into a good mental space, but it would be good to start to apply techniques to limit the stress in the first place. Thank you for another thoughtful video.

Sorry to hear about your friday! I know that feeling and the night after only too well. I will definitely feature it in a future video as I have found some techniques that help me on days like that ☺
I'm glad that you are also pursuing or incorporating this way of life. It truly is such a positive way of being. Glad to have you around, have a great day! 🌲

Thank you for sharing your journey with us! 🍀 I would be interested in new episodes of this new series. I was in a crowded tram in Zurich when I listened to your video. It was very calming and suddenly I forgot all the noise around me. I like your point that slow living is not an all-time condition. It's perfectly normal to have a little more stress from time to time. I think it always depends on how you react in these situations. And like you said, if you reduce your negative comments about yourself, you've already gained a lot 🤗✨

    • @swisssimpleton
      @swisssimpleton  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Absolutely right about not always having a perfect slow life. I find it super important to realise that there will be stress from time to time. If you expect to always do it perfectly there will only be frustration and potentially more negative self talk 🥴

I liked this chat. I listened from my deck, with its beautiful view of a river valley. I have actually had to unsubscribe to channels that are supposed to be about slow living, but their videos are almost hyperactive! Your videos are very calm. This one of course even more. I liked it. Switzerland is so beautiful, I have good memories of trips years back.

It’s wonderful to hear how your life has improved. One thing I would note is that all of our journeys are different. I’ve been through the same hardships, growing up in a childhood where I was never good enough, I pushed through my 20’s and 30’s pushing myself too hard and too harsh. I left the city too after several cases of stress and anxiety, but I didn’t find peace in the country side. A house has many projects, and it can be lonely. Farms have noisy machines. Up here in Denmark, half of the year is very dark and you can’t go for a stroll since there are no streetlights. It gets very very dark. All these things should be considered carefully.
I didn’t find peace in those surroundings, but loneliness. Instead, I found self reflection, stoicism and bullet journaling to be incredibly powerful tools that works regardless of where you live.
This is not to discourage or discredit, but just to say that life is different to all of us. We must find our own path through trial and error. Some of us find that path quicker than others.
Having just stepped into my 40’s, I finally feel at peace with my surroundings and choices 🙂💪🏻

This was really peaceful and soothing to listen to your story. Thank you for being vulnerable enough to share! I am turning 48 in 2 weeks and I am just learning how to be kind to myself. I've found living slowly or not in the way others live to be challenging at times. What I mean by that is that people around me (mostly my coworkers) do not understand why I don't work more. I have a casual/very part-time job. I was a sahm for many years, my kids are now teenagers and my husband and I have made the decision to keep living this way because this is what makes us happy. However, I get pushback and weird looks/comments from people at my job who can't understand why I only work 1 or 2 days a week. I also find I don't fit in with most conversations because people mostly talk about the big vacations they take and all the other ways they are spending money meanwhile my husband and I are just content to live a quiet, peaceful, simple life in an older home that will never be fancy!! That's not exactly glamorous or fun-sounding to others though. Truthfully, I don't even like vacations. I'd rather be home with my cats and dog and enjoy my garden and a good book! It takes a lot of courage and backbone for me to face my work and not fit into the social norms of those around me. Maybe others wouldn't feel that way, but I have a very timid personality (something I am still working on) and it causes me a lot of anxiety to be true to myself and what I want to do with my life when others question me so often.
p.s--I listened to your whole video because it was so comforting to listen to your own thoughts on this topic. And I do like this style of video that you made today. =)

    hello from germany :)
first off: i am new to this channel and i really enjoy your slow content. i am going to listen to this video with my eyes closed. personally, i wouldn't mind at all if this format had no music in the background - the birds do such a great "job" at singing! i am already loving this format and your talking in front of that visual and auditive background is really relaxing and focused. thank you for sharing your experiences. this encourages me to keep slow-living even if i am going to work soon and got a household of 2. we can do this 🌿

almost done with the video, i really like and understand your thoughts on todays consumption and chasing. sometimes i wish there were more people with such a mindset around me, it's so healthy and i think such a calm, grateful and content vision would benifit many people out there who still run themselves to a certain luxury, just to realize they cannot be happy and got harmed during all that stressing. luckily my husband and i get along greatly and are both very reflected and lucky in life. i am wishing you the best for now, stay healthy and listen to your heart and soul, it reveales great wisdom to you.

This is a wonderful video. As a senior citizen now I’m regretting that I put work and making a living at the highest pedestal. My only question to you is how do you make a living by having a slower lifestyle? What is your job that enables you time to do this?

I once watched a video where people living in retirement homes gave their best life-advice. And so many said things like "I wish I didn't work as much and have more time for everything else". That truly stuck with me!
I work in IT which allows me to live the way that I enjoy most of the time (some days are very hectic too, but it's a good balance) ☺
