- Hey everyone, hope you're having a wonderful day! 💛 This is a DIY Midi Skirt video where I show you how you can make your own midi skirt from scratch. I followed Jess Dang's tutorial on TH-cam (love her videos). I've been teaching myself how to sew through TH-cam videos and I'm definitely still a beginner but this DIY is relatively easy so hopefully you can follow along and we can learn together hehe! So I just finished making a skirt!!! It took me less than a day and this is the first thing I’ve ever made. It looks pretty great I think I’m going to add lining because it’s pretty de through i got a blue floral rayon fabric. I really messed up the waist part but other than that it’s not bad! Thank you!
Looks beautiful on you. Well done. Can I suggest that it's a good idea to pre- wash cottons and trim off and don't use the selvedge, to protect from shrinkage problems.

Hi, I love this tutorial and I'm trying to follow it, but for some reason the marks that I make for my hip measurements are not the same from the top on both sides. I've tried multiple times and even folding the fabric differently but I'm still having the same problem. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Do you know how I could fix this problem? Thanks so much!

Yes I found this too. I’m using rayon which moves around a bit. Because this fabric is bias cut (across the grain) it will stretch even if it’s not a stretchy fabric. Helps if you pin both long edges of the triangle in place so it doesn’t move around as much. Or maybe iron the fabric if it’s really wrinkly. It is tricky though …

How did you measure the elastic band lengthwise? Because taking my waist and halfing it and subtracting 2 cm is way too small!
I think it's because she has the elastic folded in half when she cuts it. So if you don't fold it in half to cut and measure it should be your waist measurement minus 2 cm (I think...)

You can try with a stretchy fabric too!! Whatever you prefer 😊

Hey, it was a bit tight so you kinda have to squeeze into it but if it’s not tight then once it’s on your waist it would be too loose again haha! But yes I did stretch the elastic a bit when sewing and I think that definitely helps ☺️

Does anyone have any suggestions for turning this into a maxi skirt?
Measure from your waist to your ankles (or wherever you want your skirt to end). When you’ve cut the top section, that is, the opening for your waist, don’t cut the bottom section. Sew the long edge together and the elastic as shown and when you’ve done this pin the fabric up measuring the top of the skirt to ankle measurement. (This might be messy as there’ll be lots of spare fabric). You could just cut your waist to ankle measurements plus 2 cm for the hem but this won’t allow for bum and hips especially for more shapely women which would shorten the skirt once you’ve put it on, so I’d only cut once you adjust the pins to get the length you want. Cut there but remember to allow 2cm extra for the bottom hem. I hope this helps!

@@SuiZaathang how did you get the fabric tostretch with the elastic? did you sew in a zipper?
@@kun1827 you have to kind of pull the elastic as you sew it on to the skirt (not too hard, just a bit), I didn’t put a zipper on (not skilled enough for this yet haha)
