    Love this pattern and tutorial. I have a check I want to make into a 1/2 circle and didn't fancy trying to match on multiple seams, so the one panel method looks perfect!
    Can someone please explain, I don't understand why you don't need to add SA to the radius measurement how is there enough space to add the zip? TIA

    • @PaigeHandmade
      @PaigeHandmade  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are cutting out your waist measurement and then stitching half an inch away from the cut line. That increases the diameter of the circle and gives you enough seam allowance. Hope that helps.

    Just wanted to say I admire your thoroughness! Most online tutorials would never do basting stitches, hand stitches, and making the hem even (and the liner!) after allowing the skirt to hang for a few days. Super impressed! I'm new to sewing but I wish all videos taught and incorporate best practices like you.

      Your comment is so thoughtful and means a lot to me. I always want to provide thorough explanations and teach techniques that make the garment of highest quality. Used this technique to make my granddaughter a skirt. shes a very very tiny 2 year old. her waist is 17 inches and from her waist to her knee was 7 1/2 inches. I made it in st. patricks day print. used a button for the closure. worked up great and I cant wait to try it on her.

    • @PaigeHandmade

      Your waist measurement divided by pie (3.14) with give you the diameter for a half circle skirt. The link in the description box will direct you to the worksheet I made to accompany this video. It has the math and diagrams for both a half circle and full circle skirt. I hope this helps.

      @@PaigeHandmade I have the same question. I read the info on the links and it is not there.

    • @PaigeHandmade
      @PaigeHandmade  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The info is on page 3 of the PDF. It says this: "The waistband is a long rectangle. For a 1.5” finished waistband width, cut a 4” width of fabric. The length will be your waist measurement plus 4”. Example: 28 inch waist + 4” = 32” length. Your rectangle would be 32 by 4 inches." The extra 4 inches is more than enough for seam allowance and overlap. It can also be shortened.

  • @cloui443
    @cloui443 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Very well done, except the zip part, I don’t understand why you make it so complicated, I literally had to go watch another tutorial about how to sew an invisible because your technique is time consuming and complicated. Otherwise, great tutorial, it was well explained and detailed!

    • @PaigeHandmade
      @PaigeHandmade  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! This zipper technique is definitely not the fastest, but it is thorough. This ensures that the plaid lines will match on the first try. It is more of a couture method. It is also useful for a center back seam on a dress because the waistline seams will match up perfectly.
      There are so many ways to put in a zipper. Some ways are easy but can compromise alignment. Some ways are time consuming. Find the method that works best for you and run with it.

      Yes, a bit much to explain in a comment but you definitely can do it. Remember to sew with a stretch stitch (zigzag for example) when working with stretchy material. Woven fabric won't work for this formula because it wouldn't fit over the hips.

      You're welcome! I would make the front (the fold) be where the directional pattern is oriented correctly. The only way to get the front and the back to have correct orientation is two cut the front and back separately. There would be two side seams and the center back seam.

    Okay. I don't know if you will see this, but I have to type it. This was absolutely the best tutorial on sewing anything I have seen on TH-cam. I am in the very beginning of sewing, literally learning all of the basic stitches but watch dress/skirt tutorials because that is my goal. Not one has ever mentioned letting the fabric hang (I've seen that and thought it was for show) or using pi to determine waist measurement. I think I heard one person mention washing fabric before working with it. And getting on the floor actually showing, forget about it. This was precise and wonderfully demonstrated. I can actually follow this and not get lost in the fabric. You're a great teacher. Thank you sooo much, and you're the one I subscribed to. Again, thanks.

    Thank you :) very nice, very complex tutorial. Your voice is very pleasant to listen to, and as for me as a not native speaker everyword was understood.
    On tuesday I am going to buy a fabric and make this skirt :) thank you again

      I really appreciate your comment. Although this skirt is more complex with the zipper and lining, it is still completely achievable. If you have an Instagram and want to tag me in a picture of your skirt I would love to see it. Have fun making it!

    After watching several tutorial videos I chose to follow yours (being the most thorough and easy to follow) and did so step by step as I made my skirt- being a complete beginner at sewing garments; I was thrilled to discover your teaching source as it has given me the best possible start. Thank you Paige, I feel indebted!

    I. Am. Shocked… My zipper is so freaking invisible!! I am new to this, and everything I’ve made so far has been pretty wonky, but not this skirt! Following your directions has been a game changer! I still have to do the waistband (I’m literally in the middle of this project right now lol) but it already looks so good! Thank you, 2019 you!!

    Please help I'm super confused. I took my waist measurement 34 inches divided by pi rounded to the nearest 1/4 in is 11 inches which is what I cut the fabric at. I cut the waitband at 38x4 inches per the workbook. Yet the waistband is much smaller than the skirt. Did I do measurements wrong? How do I edit this so the skirt waist is smaller?

      It may be that the bias parts of the skirt waist have stretched. Stitch a basting line along the waist of the skirt and ease the fabric into the waistband.

    Am I the only one having problems with attaching the waistband to the skirt? Just the pinning part. There's always bumps in either one of the parts and I'm not really sure which way would be the best. Paige just skips that part

    • @chillmeier7463
      @chillmeier7463 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, how does the hand stitch work with which I'm supposed to attach the waistband to the skirt?

    • @PaigeHandmade
      @PaigeHandmade  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you are pinning the waistband to the skirt the basting stitches come in handy. Just pin frequently; whenever I run into a tricky curve I tend to use more pins than usual and it helps. When you sew the waistband on have the skirt side up so you can watch it to ensure not folds get stitched. Finally, with the hand stitching I use a fell stitch. I hope this helps you in your skirt making!
