IMPORTANT! At 2:49 there's a mistake in the skirt measurement formula! The waistband shouldn't be divided by 2. Sorry for the confusion :) Find the updated formula here: www.roseryapparel.com/videos/diy-gathered-midi-skirt

I finished making this out of fabric I had in my stash! Here are my tips:
Imperial people, you can make the skirt out of exactly two yards of main fabric (anywhere from ~44-54" wide) if you make the following modifications:
    * You must make the pockets out of contrasting fabric no matter how wide your fabric is.
    * The full width of the main skirt panels will be the width of your fabric (or you will potentially trim a little bit off of the sides if you are smaller and your fabric is wider). (Just to note, 43" wide fabric still produced a decent effect on my 38" waist, although my proper width measurement for both panels should have been closer to 58." More gathers/width would obviously be better, but my finished "suboptimal" skirt still has a lovely gathered effect. I would say you're good to do this as long as your fabric width is the same or larger than your waist measurement.)
    * If your fabric is narrow (~44" wide), you must also make the waistband out of contrasting fabric UNLESS your hips measurement is also smaller than your [fabric - seam allowance] is wide.
    * OR, if your fabric is narrower than your hip measurement AND you don't mind a shorter midi-length, (33.5" made a skirt slightly too long for my liking anyway, and I'm 5'3"), then you can still get the waistband out of the main fabric by piecing the waistband. With the gathers, I don't think it's noticeable. (Measure up 11" from the bottom of the 2 yards and cut along the full width of the fabric. Cut that into two 5.5" lengths from which to make your waistband. Cut the remaining length in half, and you should end up with the two main skirt panels that are 30.5" long.)
    Hope someone finds this helpful!

Just a suggestion for the casing--if you stitch the casings completely closed, then unpick the back seam of the waistband where the 3 casings are, it makes it easier to thread the elastic through. You can hand stitch the small openings closed, but you really don't have to as they don't show with such a gathered waistband. I've been sewing since the 1960's and found this to be a useful tip.

I've just made it and I love it so bad! For the lining I used the wrong formula but I cut it on the sides so it turned out okay. I used a muslin fabric that was a bit stretchy and super thin so it was kinda complicated to cut and sew. For absolute beginners like me I'd recommend using cotton or linen fabric which doesn't stretch much. Yet the result was just stunning! Thank you so much for the tutorial

Tanks for your lovely made Video, i made the skirt today and there were great Tipps in the process.😇 Lukily i realised the waistband measurement was wrong. The Problem is Not the waist but the but :D i can't get the waistband over there. So i made it larger, almost too large. In my size with a waistlength of 103 cm there is much to much fabric with your measurements, in total almost 3 Meter. I don't know if the Problem with it really is the langer size or if i made a mistake. Its okay now because i need the skirt for a costume, but as an everyday-outfit i would not like to wear my skirt. Because its very full an bulky. I would now choose 115x72 cm (my waiste:2)+60cm) instead of 151,5 cmx72 cm for the main fabric pieces. But IT was fun to make my very first piece of clothing from scratch. So thanks again for your work 😇
