Hey Jenna! The skirt looks lovely. I also sew and don’t have an invisible zipper foot. I’ve found the best way to get as close to the zipper teeth as possible is to iron open the zipper before stitching it in. That way you are not fighting against the natural inward curve of the zipper. I iron it open before I stitch the first side and again before I stitch the second side. Hope this helps.

I am a little confused about the bias tape part. So once you fold it over, do you sew the bottom part all around? or just on the edges where the zipper is? Sorry I haven't used bias tape before.
You can also make scrunchies on the the remaining fabric.. it would be so cute
