  • In this video, I head out solo with a canoe full of gear to go hot tent winter camping in a snow storm and test out my new Pomoly Hex Plus hot tent and Pomoly Dwellar wood stove. I paddled my canoe on a remote pond and found a beautiful campsite on the far end. After setting up the tent and getting a warm fire going in the wood stove I cooked an easy camping meal- Pizza dip! (try this if you haven't, it was so good). An overnight snow storm changed my plans. The pond ended up entirely FROZEN! I woke up hoping for snow but got more than I bargained for when the pond was covered in ice! It was frozen enough to where I couldn't break the ice and paddle out, but the ice was also not thick enough to walk across. I decided to make several trips around the pond back and forth from my vehicle, portaging my canoe and gear. I learned a lot from this quick trip when it comes to camping in winter. Be sure to have 2 ways out and make a plan for the worst case scenario. If i had a dry suit, I may have been more willing to attempt to break the ice and paddle across, but without one it was not worth the risk. I tend to learn lessons the hard way, but hopefully it's at least entertaining to watch and you can learn something from it. I can look back and laugh at it now.
