    That's why I'm a fan of Jan Ullrich. He certainly used doping but he treated his teammates well and remained a humble person throughout his sporting career. I don't think any of Ullrich's ex-teammates would speak so negatively about him!!!

      Phil I agree- Floyd is not the best at doing interviews but he does seem very straight forward and not full of shit. Even if he got to a point where he was looking after number one by coming clean ( as Brett Connor says below I just noticed) he's always seemed Blunt and honest so I have to admire him for that if nothing else.

      Calamari Chris funnily enough I was going to say earlier that I've always had the feeling it's mostly Lance Lovers that trash Landis. Landis is no saint of course, but I never understood why anyone would love Armstrong so much- I always knew he was on the gear it SHOULD have been obvious to anyone who races at even a low amateur level. Even purely from a cycling entertainment point of view- as brilliant as Armstrong was (within the context of drug assisted performance) why did people enjoy watching a robotic domination of the race for all those years? as Boring as watching Sampras dominate Wimbledon and Schumacher Formula one. Ullrich, for example, was at least much more human, fallible and likeable.

    I’ve had the pleasure of running into Floyd a few times on different occasions while cycling out in the Temecula/Fallbrook areas of Southern California. It was about 8 years ago during his time with the Ouch cycling team and he was a real class act, I mean just as nice as it gets. During a training ride in Temecula he stopped to allow me to grab a photo with him and we chatted for about 5 minutes, on abother occasion he recalled me at a gas station when I said Hello to him and he took a pic with my son, but on a ride in Fallbrook, a tough hilly area, this was the first time I interacted with him, he rode next to me and motivated me to a top of a pretty good climb, I was a newbie at this point, but he flagged his sag vehicle up to us and told me and my friend to have a great ride and to be safe. The sag vehicled made sure we were ok in the 100 degree plus heat and fueled my friend and I with hydration, bars, and gu’s then happily departed us. I cant say how cool of a feeling that was. We all go through crap in life, but how we interact with one another will always last, which is why I have a great regard for the few times I’ve ran into Floyd. If you read this Mr Landis, thanks for the cool memories and the small talk. GODSPEED.

    I feel sorry for the people who put all that effort into succeeding, only for Lance Armstrong to end up bullying them. In my experience, all *I* have to do to get a load of verbal abuse from a cyclist is to simply go for a walk along any public footpath in Britain.

    • @KatieCooper1990
      @KatieCooper1990 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tell me about it, British cyclists think they can do whatever they want and don't realise that on a mixed use public footpath NO ONE has right of way and that cyclists should sound their bell and slow down when approaching a pedestrian. The worst bunch are the tour de France wannabe's who have racing bikes and wear that ridiculous full lycra. Those people have serious anger management issues. Though the funniest thing I've seen where I walk were these two cyclists in full lycra, riding racing bikes that cost around £5000 each and they didn't have the fitness to ride up a tiny little hill (more of a bump) that had around 15m of elevation change. They actually had to unclip their feet and push their bikes up the hill (bump). It wasn't as if they'd been riding for miles and were exhausted either as neither of them had broken a sweat.
      I've seen them twice now (months apart) and they still push their expensive road bikes up the tiny little bump haha.

    • @todd92371
      @todd92371 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is really sad. I'm a rider and always either slow down big time or say, "Thank you" repeatedly. Bikes are fast and I don't want to ruin their walk! I'm in the US though and it's usually on the streets where you have to fight back or die. lol

    All of the top level cycling teams had a doping program and most all the riders were on it in Lance and Floyd's days in cycling. The UCI knew it and all the Grand Tour organizers knew it and looked the other way because it made for the most incredible races and riders the sport of cycling has ever or will ever see again. Lance brought more viewers, riders, and money to cycling than anyone before or after him. If not for Lance cycling would still be an unknown sport in the US and other place in the world. Love him or hate him those are just the facts. Like Tiger in golf and Jordan in basketball all winners have a driven prickish personality. They got inside their competitors heads and crushed their will and then physically destroyed them.
    P.S......doping is still in cycling and sports. It's just done more carefully and on micro dosing levels. Don't kid yourself that it's disappeared.

      Greg LeMond put US cycling on the map and it's not true that all teams had a program and/or most riders were in on it. Plenty of riders have testified otherwise. What gives you the right to make such a blanket statement about pro cyclists? Are you on LA's marketing team that has made up & promoted the lie "everyone was doing it" in order to justify his own behavior? If you're promoting his big lie for free then that's not a very good return on investment for your valuable time on earth.

For some people it´s just unimaginable to give up their larger than life hero. And the guy will always be able to say: "I wasn ´t doing anything else than the other guys and was the best at it". It´s up to us, the public, to decide, whether we want to accept, or question such attitude.

      lance story with cancer and coming back to cycling,got lance some sponsors
      these sponsors sponsored tour de france cause that's why the 1st prize was 1 million $
      obviously lance got uci and tdf organizateurs in his pocket cause he bringed sponsors and people attention with his story comeback
      during his winning years in tdf he got positive tests which were disclosed years later
      also lance only competiting in tdf,ignoring complety other big races,why??? cause he didn't got in other races people in his pocket like race organizateurs,people who would take his pee sample
      in tdf top GC riders were caught and banned but only armstrong not,biggest armstrong opponent was jan ulrich which dopped couldn't beat armstrong and ulrich got caught twice
      i remember on internet during 2005-2007 was a picture where top20 GC tdf 2000 or 2001 majority of them got caught or their names were linked to a dopping scandal
      i started watching cycling in 1999,just coincidence,cause in summer break eurosport romania was showing tdf full stages from 12 or 1 pm to 6 pm and replaying again in the morning
      by year 2003 it was obvious for me that majority were doping and armstrong is a bigger fraud than ulrich
      romanian comentators were always talking about doping scandals,they were talking very freely about shady things happening in cycling
      they speak about us postal being too strong,george hincapie was no climber specialist but hincapie would relay on flat the whole stage and if at the end was a climb,still hincapie would relay dropping pure climbers
      obviously after some years both got removed and replaced with a guy that is npc/puppet that tells the 2nd commentator not to go deep into doping disccusions

    Here's the deal, lots of people are assholes to the people around them, does that excuse their behavior? No, of course not. Is it nice to be around? No. But in a lot of cases like with John Lennon, Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, and Mr. Lance Armstrong, in their personal lives, they treated people close to them like shit - but at the same time, gave so much positivity and benefits to the world. Again, does not excuse nor does it mean they are not responsible for their actions - in all cases they 100% are.
    But people will focus on the small number of people hurt thinking it somehow negates the billions of people's lives that over generations these individuals have helped, uplifted, inspired and enriched for the better. Now take someone like Hitler, he was said to be a very nice and giving to his family and friends and yet this in no way cancels out the atrocities he committed against the entire world. It comes down to the big picture and the overall good one gives.
    If you had to choose, would you rather be, 80% good and 20% asshole or 20% good and 80% asshole?
