I'm an 80s kid that grew up right outside Boston watched almost every one of his games and I still haven't seen anybody is clutch to this day and I'm almost 60. He was just crazy nasty clutch it's hard to explain less you saw it. And what he did as is made guys around him better. Like Brady did for 20 years. Great leaders bring greatness.

Another great vid my friend. I was lucky enough to grow up in the Boston area and watch many of Bird's games on our TV. My family never could afford to go to a regular season game, but I did see a Celtic exhibition game in 1988 with my Mom. I wanted to get to the Garden as early as possible. I brought my parents old school binoculars (didn't care people looked at me weird), and watch Bird warm up and play for fa few minutes during the game. So glad I got to see him play in person once. Thanks again for this and all your great reaction videos. You are definitely one of the people here that makes TH-cam great. Much love and keep it going my friend 👊.

The issue between Rodmans comment and The Celtics 87 finals series against the Lakers had a big effect. Bird was constantly called to press conferences and invaded by the press over this issue when he should have been getting ready to play the Lakers. If that hadnt happened , a fully focused Bird would have beaten the Lakers in that series and it would be 4-4 between Bird and Magic. History swings on tiny moments

The clip of the press conference with Isiah didn't very accurately portrait Bird's opinion about the whole thing. He was dumbfounded by the media circus revolving around the comments. He told whoever cared to ask that he didn't care about it at all. It meant NOTHING to him. He was irritated at having to attend that press conference because it was a distraction from preparing for the finals series with Lakers.

    • @BU_TV

What caught my attention is when veteran players CHOOSE NOT TO PLAY because it was Larry Bird they would be guarding.
And the rookies have no idea what's coming.
The OTHER thing that stands out is that Larry appreciated EFFORT ....and would open his home to opposing players if they impressed him. That's pretty cool.

In one of these videos there is the story of the dream teams epic collapse at the hands of the college guys. Seems that the dream team was practicing, but what Chuck Daily saw was a bunch of high end athletes trying to show off to each other and not trying to be a team or work as a team. So, Daily had the college guys play these ego driven players in an attempt to show THEM how poor they are together as a team and it's time to get down to business! It worked! From Magic on down they all started to work as a team, passing, picking and so on. The college guys got the crap beat out of them from that point on throughout the rest of the week! Before the dream team could be great, they all had to take a big bite of "humble pie" and it worked! That was completely to Chuck Daily's credit as a coaching genius!

Im probably in the minority, but I believe Isiah when he later said he didnt mean it.
I hated Isiah during his playing days but since his retired he has become rather humble and rather likable.
As the guy said in the video, I dont think Isiah really felt that way, he jusr took the heat off of his "stupid rookie" player who put his foot in his mouth.
As a senior player AND captain, he saw thst as his responsibility, to protect his juniors.
I dont disagree with that and it might very well have saved Rodman.
