    It was wedding cakes he was eating, not birthday cakes. The point stands though : who’s gonna f*ck up a wedding cake?
    It’s somewhat comforting to know Larry was a “fat boy just waiting to eat freely” deep inside, when he was such a basketball savant in the world’s eyes. Lol

      Bird was underrated as a passer and a defender. "Don't let winning make you soft. Don't let losing make you quit. Don't let your teammates down in any situation."
      Best quote I've heard from someone not named Thomas Jefferson.

    • @zeppelinmexicano
      @zeppelinmexicano 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I will back up what you said about Bird. In fact, I think it's very underrated how he would know when he absolutely was the one who had to take the shot, even before the play call. He could sense things. In the middle of a game there was nobody better at dishing the ball, but at the end of a crisis game, forget it, he was taking the shot and somehow that was consistent with him being a disher. He just had an uncanny sense to know when it was time to take over. Move over Rover, let Larry take over!

    The broadcaster was Johnny Most. He did play by play for the Celtics for many years and he's a legend himself. The man wrote poetry as a hobby and he used that skill during games, making up unflattering nicknames for opposing players and referring to them by those nicknames as he passionately painted each Celtics game as an epic battle of good vs evil. LOL!
    When Celtics games were broadcast on network TV we all tuned in, turned the TV sound down and turned the radio up. "This is Johnny Most, broadcasting to you from high above courtside", as you could see him sitting at a table on the sideline. When he died the Celtics retired his microphone, and today it hangs in the rafters of the Garden alongside the retired players numbers and championship banners, "high above courtside." Yeah, we all loved him.

    About the radio announcer Johnny Most..."Turn down the TV and turn up Johnny". So many lived in the country and on farms (especially in Indiana) back then. Cable TV was only about 10 channels and only came to smaller towns later in the 80s. Most only had 2 or 3 channels by antenna (if you lived in a good location) . It was so different, we all saw the same shows and news. We were one America. Also, watching TV was something many of the working class men did very little and the older men often made fun of men who did. The radio was the way of our dads and grandparents generation and many preferred it, especially working late hours in the barn or garage after a full day in the field, in the workshop, or at the factory. The radio announcers excitement was as close to a big screen TV as you could get most places st that time. We were also a car culture and spent a lot of our time on muscle cars so the radio was number one. Unless you special ordered an FM radio in the 80s, most cars only had a static prone AM radio if any. With AM radio, you lost signal going under bridges and power lines. I lived from 1971 through all of this until now and people now don't even think about not having smartphones just 10 or 15 years ago. What a time to have witnessed in human history. Now if we can just keep the spoiled, clueless, indoctrinated idiots from burning it all down into the dark ages again.

I love listening to all the legends of THE NBA ERA, the golden-age, finally given up these stories!! Lot of players have held a lot of grudges but they are all sharing them with us now--except for one. Yeah, we all know who that is--Jordan--he's still pissed that he never beat Bird in a playoff game and that he was brought to tears after the second sweep on the bench. Yeah--that is Jordan's story. I will tell it for him --"Man, he beat me 6 playoff games in a row-back-to-back sweeps-and all I could do was try to hide my tears on the bench near the end of the final sweep. He beat me more than anyone and I never could get him. We would scratch him and claw him to where it looked like he was in a knife fight but he would just shoot game-winners over me and Scotty's double-teams at the buzzer in our faces" --watch the tape and ask Jordan for his Bird stories that don't involve exhibition teams.

    I think this is what made Bird great. He wasn't super athletic, wasn't fast, wasn't muscular, and couldn't jump. He truly almost looked sloppy when he played. But he was a student of the game and studied players and tendencies and their movements and habits. That's what made him great. I've watched a couple of clips on Kobe and he was the same. He studied and was a student of body movements and the game itself. They're are alot of good players, but very few GREAT players. The great ones keep studying, learning and evolving. I was reading an article about Johnny Most, the Celtics announcer. I truly enjoy listening to him. He sounds like an interesting character.
    Found out that he was an aerial gunner on a B-24 Liberator during WWII.
    Unfortunately he was a heavy smoker and had many heath complications from it, even having both legs amputated above the knee. They said that he was unable to stop smoking even after it was banned inside the Boston Gardens (not sure what year). He passed away from a heart attack at the age of 69.
    I worked in a hospital, quite a few years back when smoking was still allowed there, and saw people with emphysema still light up just after receiving a cardio pulmonary treatment. It can be such a hard habit to quit. So sad.

    In that Phoenix game, where he told the Suns that he was getting the ball and going to shoot a 3, after he makes the shot, he turned to the Phoenix bench and said "told you so." You can see that at 10:40.

    That announcer is the late great Johnny Most. On October 10, 1990, Johnny Most announced his retirement due to health concerns. On December 3 of that year, Most was honored with the permanent installation of his microphone at Boston Garden, silver-plated and encased in a Celtic-green frame.

    That was a shot only Bird and DJ played, they did it with each other, and both if caught without a way to pass, they would bounce it off the glass and shoot it for 2 points, that clip is at 14:56 I believe.

    Saw almost every big game in Boston Garden from 81 to 87, loved Bird. DJ and Max were so under-rated, just awesome players. Without max those first 2 would have never happened. The lakers and Celtics of the 80's were the two best teams of all time. They'd destroy today's wimpy teams.

      Bird would drop 60 a game in this pussy league and he’ll call it that too! Greatest games EVER the start of game on CBS and the shot of the train to the Boston Garden, then a crazed Celtic faithful one being my Mom in my living room yelling Beat LA! As a Lakers fan you know the hate, but Bird is in my top five forever!

    I'm not sure that you ever featured the story of Larry Bird in the 1981 semi-final against the Sixers when Larry Bird literally took over the last three games to win them totally himself overcoming losing three of the first four games to a powerful Sixers team. There has never been a player that can raise there game to that level. He is the goat without any question. It's an unbelievable story that brought me tears of joy watching watching such godly perfection. This can be found here: "The best Larry Bird underdog story ever told." Take a good look at the likely possibility of any team accomplishing this from that far behind, and than going on and winning the finals in addition. No team has ever done it before and none will ever do it again. Gerald Smith.

    Johnny Most, the broadcaster for the Cs, was a chain smoker, and one night during a game he lit his own crotch on fire. True story. Right in the middle of a game. I can't remember much about it except thinking, "What the hell is he DOING??" His voice was fucked up by the butts, and I think he died later of throat cancer.

      @@BU_TV sorry, I didn't see your response earlier. Yeh, Johnny set his crotch on fire! He somehow got careless with a butt in the middle of a game. Either the butt or the live ashes fell on his crotch and he didn't notice. Then came the screeches and self flagellation. As you can imagine, many laughs for a long time from the fans. If you set yourself on fire in the middle of calling an NBA game there has to be some special seat of honor at the HoF for you!

    • @zeppelinmexicano
      @zeppelinmexicano 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sharihoutman I thought that was bullshit until I had a chance to compare Most to the national TV guys, or the local NBA guys. While Johnny was the ultimate homer, he was also an astute observer and had a knack for compressing several sentences into one. Once you got used to his style he could tell you what happened with an absolute minimum of words. That's tough to do in any sport, but especially a fast moving sport. I think Fred Cusick did a similar job for the Bruins? I would say so. It's tough to describe things to an audience that can't see the action.
