Very well done mate, I'm no mechanic, but that's how I started off - I was getting ripped off by garages for even the simplest of jobs. That's when I decided to learn to do the work myself, all the information is out there whether it be online or in manuals.. I've never taken my car to a garage since.
When I had my Mk4 GTI it was Green Power Steering fluid the dealer advised me to use. The mechanic I took it to filled it originally with the red fluid which is known to deteriorate the seals.
Excellent video so helpful and insightful, just a tip and only because I spent too long researching the mk4, these should use the green power steering fluid the red stuff is what eats up the seals and destroys the rack, it’s why it’s so common. 👍
Thank you very much your video was excellent replaced my rack and pinion on my gti 2004 1.8lt and it was easier than I thought again I had the same problem leaking powerstwering fluid butt It was every day replacing powerstwering , again thank you very much I safe alone by doing it on my own
i didnt know till recently green (chf) hydrolic fluid even was available! thought red (psf) was the only one for power steering. i do appreciate your videos very good since i bought a mk4 golf myself! keep making more thanks
I wish I had your talent with cars dude :) im learning tho lol (via your vids) slowly this is why I want to learn diy mechanics some very simple things can save you a lot of money, keep up the good work!
BMAC should get an honorary Ph.D in auto-mechanics from the University of Life - he's one smart and resourceful bloke. The trouble is I'm stuck with me! I am not a smart man (but I know what love is Jenny!)
Your guide helped me change a rack last night, thank you sir. The only amendments I’d make were to undo the hydraulic banjo bolts while the rack was still connected to the subframe and consider sourcing new washers as some of mine were very compacted. Also, do you have any idea why some racks come with a heat shield and some do not? I see the one you removed had no heat shield.
Yes, I would appriciate that! I'm into DNB/Dubstep and rock music. I was thinking of getting this one from Excalibur. www.cargoods.nl/images/cargoods/large/products_7166__.jpg
How much would you charge for that job if you don't mind me asking? And where did you get the steering rack from? I like to go slowly through all your videos and watch them over again!
Dear mr Bmac my bora is doing the same rack is goosed can it be rebuilt with new seals or buy a replacement also how would I know it’s a decent one. tia 👍
this guy is basically Might car Mods but in the UK .. i have just bought a 2003 mk4 1.6 and the steering isnt hard as the powersteering is working and fluid is topped up .. just wondering if the steering on them are a lil on the stiffer side .. just came from a mx5 which had VERY light power steering
Hi, great vid A+. What fluid was it you used? I was told it's the green power steering fluid that I should use, I've put it in my 52 reg golf tdi and the pump is now making a noise. Any help would be appreciated, thanks
Ive got a cabrio, MK3.5 as some have said (Im a Mazda fanatic, I dont know VW for crap) and I believe it has the same steering configuration as the MK4. Do you have to drop the subframe and if so should I have any reservations doing this with a single jack? Any help would be appreciated, its puking a liter a week.
I've got a golf tdi mark 4 it's simular to the one in the video it's just lost its poke like there's no power nothing wrong with the engine and it's doesn't throw smoke it's just like got no power can you help maybe some advice or anything ????
I have replaced power steering pump and bled system for at least 3 hours, start engine with front wheels still jack-up- power steering oil is squirting out of reservoir - can you please help/comment Etienne Mathee
Hi Boyd, I love watching videos like this, similar to wheeler dealers, where a car gets fixed! Keep up the good work! By the way, what's the music around 6:00?
are you london based? can or do you know of any honest mechanics to fix my mk 5 golf fsi. The red power steering light is on and it is almost impossible to turn the car l3ft or right smoothly (electric power steering!!) I just bought the car 3 weeks ago nd its been parked in my driveway since changed the battery a week ago though would that have anything to do with it?
I'm sick of being ripped off by mechanics I don't know how anyone can dislike this guy top ratings mate

good vid, this might be a job I need to do on my MK4. Where would you suggest I buy a steering rack from?
Great video!, only one thing VWs are supposed to have green power steering fluid in not ATF (red fluid)
I thought that as well but they said that this would be suitable for year and model. I will check it up now that you mention it.
BMAC VAGS original power steering fluid for VW, Skoda, Audi is G 002 000. Other damaged seals!!!replaced quickly
125 pound for tracking??? wdfk

mine power steering cap lid is leaking , is a fault ? , is like is breathing somewhere on the side of the cap , or is a hole
Hello, how many liters of hydraulic oil are needed for a complete system?
Cheers, will be helpful. A few times the music was more loud than your voice, otherwise a perfect video.
The seat belts are grey on that car I think it’s on alright
I have replaced power steering pump and bled system for at least 3 hours, start engine with front wheels still jack-up- power steering oil is squirting out of reservoir - can you please help/comment Etienne Mathee
Hi Boyd,

Yes, it is the same for most of the whole MK4 platform
If the rack leaks, is it possible to fix it, or it works just replaced?

To be honest, I took a chance and trusted the the guy at the sales counter that this would be ok

Wear your seat belt.

@@johnparke4836 The rack was bolloxed not the tie-rods .
