My dad bought a 1985 Mustang GT because he was worried he couldn't tune the fuel injection... and to be fair for a long time he was right in the early days individuals really struggled with EFI cars. I actually think that it's mostly due to the import scene that computers and cars became a more common place thing and breathed new life into the old muscle cars.
Also don’t forget that until about 30 years ago, altitude was a major factor of carb tuning. Cars bought in Denver didn’t run right anywhere else because they were tuned for the altitude at the dealerships.

The 84 to 86 SVO Mustangs had electronic fuel injection before the 5L. It also had an intercooled turbo with electronic boost control. It was also the first Mustang with 4 wheel disc brakes.
Two yrs after high school (attended a vo-tech in jersey), me & a couple of friends went to pay a visit on a few teachers. Our science teacher, who was awesome, was giving the class crap about taking notes when we came in. After a few minutes of listening to her kick butt, the smart asses we were, we started diagramming how to build a bomb on the blk board behind her. Wouldn't you know it, they started taking notes. When she saw that, she got the last laugh. She told them the notes better be good, they're getting tested on it at the end of the week. She did it to. Most of the passed, barely.
Don't forget the air pump. That was the accessory that funneled fresh air into the exhaust, diluting the exhaust and making cars appear to burn more efficiently than they really did. This was not just a Ford thing.
The one thing you're forgetting and that most people actually don't realize is you could actually get fuel injection in 84 with the CFI system. (Central fuel injection) but only on the automatics. 86 was the sefi system that replaced it which was standard on autos and stick cars :)

Yeah they were sooo much cooler than foxbodys and alot more ahead of their time too. I love my 1987 Firebird Formula TPI 5 speed
@@Jerrypintoswe that's my dream car, sadly I can't find any tpi 5 spd cars that are even in ok condition.
@@Jerrypintoswe I just wish GM interiors had caught up with the rest of their engineering prowess... some of the switchgear in those cars felt like it was going to twist off and break *new*.

2:15 oh yessss! aerodynamics of a CUBE
U mean OPEL KADETT GSi POWAAA? (cw0.31 in 1984)
Basically the same drag coefficient as my honda element lmao
Only one vehicle has earned the title of "flying brick" 😂
I’m saving up for one of these halfway there 🙌🏽
2:24 that hurt. I'm literally taking a basic aerodynamics course this summer.
I'm so glad to see more fox body videos. And I own one with a cobra engine
Dude you’re the bomb you have mt attention from the beginning to the end . I want more bro . Thanks 🙏🏼

James is taking over everybody's shows 😂
I really like him, he fits donut perfect. Doesn’t matter what the show is, I always watch it
The carburetor lesson is very relatable for me right now. Been researching how to tune a Weber 32/36 all week for my BMW 2002
Also don’t forget that until about 30 years ago, altitude was a major factor of carb tuning. Cars bought in Denver didn’t run right anywhere else because they were tuned for the altitude at the dealerships.
Me: gets two Ford ads on this video.
Also me: Coincidence I think not!
Me: gets a Samsung ad
Also me: suspicious -_-
you doing great things for this chanel and I'm loving all these new segments and people and schedule, although I really miss Bart and science garage ❣️
Man, My Little Pony jokes are becoming rampant in Mustang jokes...I love it.
The 84 to 86 SVO Mustangs had electronic fuel injection before the 5L. It also had an intercooled turbo with electronic boost control. It was also the first Mustang with 4 wheel disc brakes.
YES!! This video should have been about how the SVO saved the 5.0 and the rest of Mustang!!

Whooo Crown Vic !!
Why do they discontinue it (╯︵╰,)
Me with my sawzall: "Awe man. I caint do it?"
Donut: "No"
Me: "Fine then I'll just wait till you leave 😤😭"
"eeeeepaaaa, EEeeeeepaaaaA, EEEEEEPPPPPPPAAAAAAA!"
I love looking back at old tech, really shows you what you take for granted on modern cars.
Don't forget the air pump. That was the accessory that funneled fresh air into the exhaust, diluting the exhaust and making cars appear to burn more efficiently than they really did. This was not just a Ford thing.
For Some reason i always drink a glass of Milk while watching donut media
I'm sure it doesn't have to do anything with someone who's name rhymes with Rolling May Pikes

Can we get an Up to Speed on the Ford Torino/Gran Torino
We need an Up to Speed on the Chevy Nova.
Ultraguy87 yeah that too
What the hell jeremiah? You explain fluid dynamics better than my college professor
The one thing you're forgetting and that most people actually don't realize is you could actually get fuel injection in 84 with the CFI system. (Central fuel injection) but only on the automatics. 86 was the sefi system that replaced it which was standard on autos and stick cars :)
Got me reminiscing about my '93. It was my first car and my dad helped me swap in a 5.0 out of a t-bird. Mine was reef blue (I preferred it to the calypso green) but being the idiot teenager I was, I wrecked it and had to replace it with a white doghouse. The result was a color scheme that mirrored a box of Newport cigarettes almost perfectly. I genuinely loved that car
I can't stop staring at those two moto - stallions in the background. I think at the far right is a Honda RC-51?
2:24 “I know school’s out for summer.”

Mmi Orlando, you?
4:55 tato nano is using a carburetor and ill try to find more cars that do also. Oh, and peel p50 still uses one as well.
All the Tesla Cars 😂
It's not a CAR
The Peel P50 is from the 1960s

Been away from TH-cam for a while, came back to binge on donut videos and I don't know who this guy is lol but I like him. Good video!
Okay I got here within the hour!
Bring back science garage
Can we please get a video on the improvements they made for the sn95 like the engine and aero?
Ps. Great video it was super informative!
To be honest, they made a worse engine for power at least. The 5.0 takes mods well, the 4.6 doesn't but it is super reliable.
@@rhull3939 haha I was gonna put "improvements" in quotes. its power wasnt too bad after you took out at least 4 of the 6 cats :P
My 94 cobra has four cats, but my 97 gt had six. Scrapping them nearly paid for my good exhaust.
@@benruether8294 you still had the 5.0. That was a good car. I had a 96 4.6 l and I knew within a year I bought it a year too late. Talking about your 94.

It seemed odd to me that he didn't show a '73 before the '74. Same amount of contrast w/only 1 year separating them.
"7-UP" Fox Body was my favorite. Green/w White interior.
I’m 42. I’ve built a few cars. I am learning stuff from this video.
When you said don't cut the cats off I was like "damn I wonder why he would say that"
And I am still wondering
"lowest drag of any American ford ever built" is saying absolutely nothing,
you're wrong, it says something
No, it says “lowest drag of any American ford ever built”.
*GT40 has entered the chat*
Bryan Liguori Not really a Ford body, and it had the same drag coefficient as the early fox bodies
@ It actually isn't. It was designed by a British guy that worked with the British company Lola. It's based off the Lola MK6 GT race car.
4:49 Probably some kind of Russian car
nopeee.... Last one with carb was an OKA in 2008 ? Or something like that :D
Fun part is one company imports them OKA russian cars to USA and sells them with electric motors :P in 2020 !!!! :D LOL
So I will continue to run my 83 GT Mustang 4bbl 5speed with a carb and long tube headers with exhaust dumps and no cats thank you. She runs great, still gets 22 on the highway, sometimes more and still turns her factory a/c compressor. She was sold brand new in Texas, has zero body rot and that famous Texas faded paint look. She is a bad little hombre and quite collectable as I found out when everyone offers to buy it. LOL. Bought it out of a backyard in Plano it had been sitting for 9 years, guy lost interest. $2000.00 cash. Thanks for the video, I think I will stay old school. Peace.
