The speed limiters make a lot of sense, but it just seems absurd that my little Opel Corsa with 85hp can outrun a 1000hp EV given a long enough road. I'll just be playing catch up for about 95 percent of the race, lol. But given the absurdity of these top speeds, I'd rather have excellent acceleration and handling, with a lower top speed. Cos it isn't the speed that kills, it's thr sudden stop that does.
With the Opel Corsa it takes some 5-10Kms to reach top speed, I'm not even sure it can break 150km/h with its drag and measly torque. Also if there is a bit of wind against the car, going over 120km/h means you got the lucky fluke Corsa. I had one Opel Corsa, when i took a Daewoo Kalos it was like driving a Top Fuel dragster in comparison, a very rusty and rotten one though.

Saleen S7 Twin turbo: 248mph. It is funny how much little attention such an amazing car has gotten. The Normal S7 even competed in a racing series and was competitive. Something that gives it more credit to its performance then a lot of cars on this list.

The Shelby Cobra went faster than the Daytona? Doesn’t make sense, unless the Daytona was never offered as a road car? Still, 165mph seems fast for the Cobra. Didn’t think they were geared for that!
I once done 135 mph on a motorcycle and that was plenty enough for me, I glanced sideways for a moment and the terrain next to me couldn't even be processed 😂.
Going that fast on a motorcycle feels hella faster than a car right? What’s the fastest you’ve been in a car? I might have to get my fix on a motorcycle from now on if you agree it feels a ton faster. Aka more adrenaline
Also the Clio RS is far from the fastest Renault. Evan the old Clio V6 was faster. All Meganes RS are faster, and the Laguna's with the V6 diesel and petrol
I love how James called read Spirit R as "Sprint". I did the same thing from first seeing it in the first GT, until I saw the models in GT4 in photomode and reading the badge itself.
If I got a speeding ticket for doing 330 mph on public roads I'd frame it on my wall and tell my grandkids about it. If they were anything like me, they wouldn't be impressed as they do 400 on their way back from High school.

Yea I was confused by that I thought this was a list of fastest car ever made by manufacturers and I’m a corvette person so when he said c8 z06 at 194 I was like that’s not right
He has the Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda listed as the fastest Plymouth car at 117 miles per hour, but there were several faster than that. The 1998 Prowler could hit 126, the 1970 Road Runner Superbird could do 150 with the highway gearing, and so could the 1993 Laser RS Turbo.
The Superbird did over 200 at Talladega or Datona, i dont remember which, Petty was driving. I personally buried my 90 Talon AWD turbo and had pedal left around 145. I mean it wasnt stock, but the trans and gearing was, so if i had a 8500 redline i could have done 165 as that was the limit before TRE came out with their 200 mph 5th gear set.
17:21 sorry, I thought you restricted yourself to production cars? The 919 Evo was a one-off demonstration race car. If you're adding this thing, then Honda should be higher on the list with their 2006 F1 car, which they set a top speed of 246mph with
Also if they were just going road cars the 917 would've been the fastest by Porsche. The whole reason why is was so quick was due to them making the 917 also a road car.
I thought Saleen Automotive Inc had their own VIN numbers. Though I could be wrong. I was looking for that twin turbo S7. They were easily in the 200 club.
Thank you for speaking about this, the Saleen S7 (especially the Le Mans editon) is probably my favorite car of all time and in my head is was thinking “oh right, maybe they aren’t able to what some of the other modification brands could”.
Living in Germany, I had a 2018 VW GTI Performance. I got that little speed buggy up to 245kph or 152mph and it was asking for more. It was fun for 5 seconds and then I realized that I was probably going to die. A short wheel based car doing 152mph is a handful and you are going about twice the speed of most cars on the highway. It was not unusual to drive at 200kph and turn on the (adaptive) cruise control - best way to do it.
i have the Octavia vRS from 2019 and got mine up to around 174 thanks to an ecu tune but i was to scared to try to get it faster because the suspension wasnt up to the task
You know that you live in Germany, when you can you can configure either adaptive cruise going up to 93 mph/150kph, 112mph/180kph or 130 mph/210kph, which is pretty funny IMO, although it would be nice if my Tesla could go a tad faster like 180 kph, but it's not the end for the world 150 kph is fast enough.

Love you guys, and I loved the presentation by James as always, but this list is a little "bumpy": 1) Picking a prototype LMP-1 car which was running without restrictions for Porsche? I thought it's about production cars? If that's not the case you could have included F1 cars too etc... 2) There are a lot more crazy fast production homologation cars which were street legal e.g. Mercedes C9. 2b) Some of the mentioned cars aren't the fastest ones of the manufacturer even without taking homologation cars into account. I'm sure there is a lot of research involved but guys, you could / should have taken more time and care for this one ;)

1 Thing id like to point about the Porsche 919 evo hybrid. As a car to beat the world record for the nurburgrin it wasnt even made for straight line speed. It was made for acceleration and cornering so it had pretty short gears id imagine. That thing reached that speed in like 5 seconds straight out of a corner with the hybrid boost on. And it EASILLY redlined on the seventh gear on the straight so if it had longer gears it could have reached a way higher max speed. I mean 1150+ hp on a car that weights 900kg is insane.

The unlimited Holden HSV GTSR W1 does 185 mph or 298 km/h. The unlimited Hyundai Veloster N does 164 mph or 264 km/h. The unlimited Vauxhall VXR8 GTSR, owner say, can hit 176 mph which is 282 km/h. Volkswagen made the W12 Nardò that hitted 222 mph or 357 km/h. The Lotus Evija does 217 mph or 350 km/h. The TVR "Typhon" T440 R does 215 mph or 346 km/h. The Nissna R390 GT1 ROAD CAR did just 215 mph, not 220. The Pagani Huayra R does 225 mph, the fastes is the Zonda Revolución at 238 or 383 km/h. The Ultima company does the Ultima RS and hits 250 mph or 402 km/h. Saleen made the S7 Twin Turbo back in 2005 and hit 248 mph or 399 km/h. Ruf makes the CTR3 Clubsport and does 236 mph or 380 km/h. SCG (Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus) has the SCG 003 S wich does 233 mph or 375 km/h. Bristo was a british company and made the Fighter T wich hits 225 mph or 362 km/h. According to a Corvette factory rep I personally talked to, No, the C8 Z06 is not going to hit 200mph. Chevy wasn't going for a top speed record with the Z06. And they never have with the Z06 lineage. The Z06 is about being track-ready. The ZR-1 / ZR1 is their top speed beast. NASCAR drivers say that if you AREN'T scared at 200mph, they don't want to be on the track with you. When you crash at 200mph, they describe it as hitting anything and everything and it feels like the car won't slow down even though it keep hitting things. But that car has a full roll cage and 5 point harness in a racing seat with a supplemental restraint system to keep you from breaking your neck and keep your arms inside when you're rolling seemingly forever. A truck driver I met once described getting hit by a Corvette as he crossed a highway in Arizona. He stopped and looked and saw nothing as far as he could see and as his trailer crossed the road a Corvette hit him and pushed his loaded trailer 6 feet sideways. Now try to imagine 300mph.
I mean, the Clio V6 Sport can do 155mph as well... even my MK3 Megane RS 250 can hit 152mph. Every Megane RS from the 250 onwards can beat 149mph. Reason they found the RS16 is because all the research was 'fastest renault' and RS16 comes up 😆

The TVR Cerbera Speed 12 hit 240 mph, which definitely warrants a place on this list.
Can't keep up with the newer supercars though, those top 3 were insane, I didn't know anything had beaten the 300mph mark yet.
super awesome Cerbera. TVR is an amazing company. they also forgot the SEAT Cupra GT. 160-183mph/295kmh. don't these guys play GT and Forza? read car&driver? Road&Track? R&T would tell readers the 155 top speed is pretty much chipped into every new car, but they would also go directly to the manufacturer for the theoretical or track-tested top speed. they didn't specify if they were doing public/production cars only, which i guess they mostly are, but that company in Spain still technically made this concept supercar into a racecar, how else would I know about it? Dodge did sort of the same thing 2001 with the Viper SRT-10 competition coupé concept. i got to sit in one at the Portland, OR autoshow when it was labeled as the 2003. i could go on and on with more vehicles-perhaps I will in a video-they only did 100 companies and they still missed a few like Saturn. Volkswagen developed the W-12 engine for the W12 Nardò, which was then used for the Audi A8L W-12, the VW Phaeton luxury edition, and also the twin-turbo Bentley Continental. what about South Korea's Oullim Spirra? maybe it's a twin-turbo V6, maybe it's an electric powertrain, maybe it's a 276hp, camry-powered 2+2 Korean Lotus - their answer to the NSX - which Honda/Acura has also showcased a more modern V10 paddle-shift concept of in recent years. the Cadillac CTS-V blackwing? what about the Cien 7.5L V-12 commemorative concept supercar, V-LMDh & GTP hypercars, all made by Cadillac? he'll throw in the Delta HF Integrale because it's his favorite rally car...but what about Peugeot and the Group B 205 T16, the 208 T16 PP, the 905, or the 908, or the Onyx? or the Suzuki Escudo PP? or Renault, the inventor of the turbocharger? or the '96 Vector M12, or Subaru? or Cizeta? and the W Motors Lykan Hypersport, aka the Warlock? what is the Mitsubishi FTO on GT3 when you deck it out with rally specs? or the Aston Martin V8 Vantage from '99 on GT4? are these not real badass cars worthy of attention?huge fan of donut media. do I get a free t-shirt? probably not. will I receive backlash and commentary on yt and social media for posting something? absolutely yes.
how can one claim to be a car nut and claim to have a comprehensive list not including these cars? in South Korea where I was once stationed, the fastest cars there are BMWs, Gemballa Porsches, and the taxi version of the Hyundai Sonata II, where your taxi driver can speed past an oncoming ROK cop, and as long as they make eye contact with them, they won't pull your cab driver or "ajeossi" (odashi) over - just throw money at them, bali bali, odashi! and they speed as fast as they possibly can through their beautiful but foggy and congested jungle countryside mountain temple nation, with city streets and gochu pepper farms and long winding roads through the rainforest, where Hyundai cars are very easy to repair and upgrade with performance parts and electronics, and most vehicles come turbo-intercooled stock. I haven't even seen a single one like them back here in the states. i know all of these cars, i still drool over these cars, anyone would. Fiats are a joke and cannot beat Supras or Celicas or Celica Supras without breaking down, so Fiats don't count. Fix It Again, Tony! i want a four-wheel-drive carbon fiber supra castrol gtx: to a mechanic, this is laughable. to a hardcore rally car driver, this is standard. four-wheel-drive, printed layered carbon fiber, etc. on a gaming simulator like in Las Vegas, this becomes instant; pay me four dollars in quarters. look who owns denso and who owns calsonic and owns home depot. your car becomes its own legendary item. people will remember how cool you were forever. that's why huge names will attach their beautiful brand name to your beautiful car. if I saw you in a maserati c i would faint like I would almost die. the Bulgarian company I2B made concept versions of the Raven, Raptor, and Wildcat, but I guess they don't have enough money to make enough cars to promote their vehicles, and turned them into NFTs. imagine building one of these yourself just to have one... you'd be like Travolta from Swordfish.

Kudos to you for including the .76 in the Sledgehammer speed. What REALLY made that car special though was the fact that it was a real car. You could go get groceries with it. They drove it from Old Lyme, CT to the track in Liberty, OH ... did the speed run, set the record... and then drove it back.
I remember the article in R&T (or was it C&D) when I was a kid.. Such an amazing achievement.

3:08 I never thought I’d see a Mahindra on a Donut video. Well done M&M!
yep
1 Thing id like to point about the Porsche 919 evo hybrid. As a car to beat the world record for the nurburgrin it wasnt even made for straight line speed. It was made for acceleration and cornering so it had pretty short gears id imagine. That thing reached that speed in like 5 seconds straight out of a corner with the hybrid boost on. And it EASILLY redlined on the seventh gear on the straight so if it had longer gears it could have reached a way higher max speed. I mean 1150+ hp on a car that weights 900kg is insane.
So stoked to see the DeTomaso on this list! My grandpa owns a 1972 DeTomaso. It's my second favorite of his collection

Nice video, I liked a lot. I'm going to let my list of cars that were missing or you got the wrong top speed (constructive critic, not ranting about anything).
The KTM X-Bow GTX odes 171 mph or 276 km/h.
The Renault Mégane 275 Trophy-R does 158 mph or 255 km/h.
The unlimited Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 does 158 mph also.
As far as the rules of the list seem to go, only road legal cars are permited, so the Porsche 919 Evo Hybrid is not Porsche's fastest car, but the 918 Spyder at 218 mph or 351 km/h.
Gumpert, an obscure german company, makes the Apollo that hits 224 mph or 360 km/h.
Thanks, buddy. I was looking for someone who actually knew this. There's quite a few brands that this vid got it wrong/missed. Porsche one was a bit shocking tbh... the 919 is clearly a race car.

The lotus evija doesn’t exist, so it can be taken off, along with the jesko. No point in putting up a speed for a car that hasn’t even been tested, or made in the case of the evija. The most egregious error they made was the corvette.

@@sxveng3847 it can hit 211 but it's electronically limited to 168, which is what this list uses (mostly) but obviously some cars aren't accurate.
Both the C6 and C7 ZR1 models clipped over 200mph (as you likely implied with your 'and previous vettes have goner faster...") ✌🏻
@@evolution2001 correct with me implying previous ZR1 models, but the new Z06 "should" be able to hit 200. Unless its governed under that or the gearing was purposely kept low. But it should be 200 capable.

Opel, Vauxhall, Saturn, Chevrolet. Same shit, different country.
Holden --> a Holden (HSV GTSR W1)
Vauxhall --> a Holden (HSV GTSR)
Pontiac --> a Holden (Monaro)
Opel --> a car Holden made, but did not 100% engineer (Holden improved on the design and sold it as the Commodore, with Holden engineered parts in the Lotus Omega model)
The Renault Megane 4 RS is given for 260 km/h (162 mph), significatively faster than the Clio.
yeah, not sure why they didnt pick the Megane IV RS
I mean, the Clio V6 Sport can do 155mph as well... even my MK3 Megane RS 250 can hit 152mph. Every Megane RS from the 250 onwards can beat 149mph. Reason they found the RS16 is because all the research was 'fastest renault' and RS16 comes up 😆
The Renault 4 was a small economy car...sure you meant the Megane...
The mk4 Megane R.S. Trophy-R ist even faster with a top speed of 262Km/h (163 mp/h)
