My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!
I grabbed a topwater 120 pdl a few years ago and I love it. Installed some lights and a few other goodies on it. Mostly do catfishing in it and its as steady as a rock. So glad I bought one.
Man, that is a very nice boat. I know you love it. I just picked up a 2021Topwater 120 PDL same color. Looks just like the Sportsman 120 PDL model except for the seat and the deck pads. Even has the shallow water anchor mount plate on it. Tight lines... Enjoy your boat.
@@anadventureoutdoors it is. Spot-lock is amazing. I have it on my bass boat, but man it is really nice on the kayak. The wind and current don't irritate me as much anymore when trying to hold a position.
Thanks for all the great information, friend. I'm hoping I can get my hands on one for the summer, and if it's half as good as people are saying it is, I'll be a happy camper. Feel free to enjoy some of my content. I might be the worst fisherman in the world, and boy do I enjoy complaining about it.
@@anadventureoutdoors that sounds like a good option. I think if I know I’ll be in shallow stuff without a ton of current, I’ll take my Teton Angler. We’ll see, whenever I get a PDL! Also thinking about the 106 vs 120.
I have a 2023 Oldtown Sportsman 120 pdl. I do also run the new PP 768 J2 Bixpy motor, on the gravity rudder system. You can plug the deck from Navarre fishing. He makes everything for Oldtown and other kayaks, including that deck plug plate. I have all my electronics, Add-ons, and accessories. It's a one man bass boat. Especially with a motor. I'm 5ft 7" 160 lbs. I can walk bow to stern. And you'll fall out, before this boat flips. It's hard to make it flip on purpose. The Walmart, Dicks, and even bass pro shops. They don't hold a candle to this boat. 👍 💯 🌊 Fishing 🎣
@@anadventureoutdoors Yes if you feel other hulls, or PDL drives. You're going to feel how solid and rugged, that hull is. And the ODL Drive floats. Next time you're standing in 2 ft or 3ft of water, place the drive in the water. It's not going to sink. Lol. Unbelievable fleet they've built. Good luck with the new boat. 🌊 🎣
Few reasons that turn me off with the pedal over the paddle: First, you have to ADD weight for the pedal mechanism to use. Secondly, any type of shallow areas or underwater debris becomes a headache with a pedal. Not to mention you have to clean the propeller from time to time as well, and the pedal area takes up a big chunk of the cockpit area. For me it would be paddle or straight to an electric motor kayak IMO. Pedal doesn't have much of a role anymore IMO.
The type of water you are paddling in probably plays a part in your preference. Good thing they make different kinds of boats for different preferences
I got a question that maybe you as a switch reeler can answer... Why do you cast with your right arm then switch the rod to your left hand, then reel with your right hand> I cast with my right arm and keep hold of the rod and reel with my left...
I think it was just the way i learned when i was little. lol. I am right handed so i can throw more accurate with my right hand and it feels better reeling it that way to. I know seems weird. lol
I have an Old Town Salty PDL 120 which is the economy version. I love the kayak but Old Town needs to come up with a better PDL breakaway system for when you abruptly hit a rock or shallow bottom. The problem is the PDL drive works too well, LOL. You can go very fast but that does not help if you hit something with the drive. The propeller is very fragile and the latches that hold it down pop out if you hit something and then they have to be replaced with new ones. You should keep extra latches, propeller and tools to replace them on your boat at all times. Not good if you are miles from your launch point. My advice is lift up the drive when you are in shallow water where there are rocks under the surface and get out your paddle. It paddles very very if you use the rudder to keep it even in the wind. I have caught a lot of great fish from this yak and would not trade if to any other. I would like to see some remedies for the breakaway issues from Old Town. It needs to pop out easier and be able to "reset" everytthing without replacing parts. Oh, it is heavy at about 100lbs. with the drive and you should invest in a good wheel transport system to get from your vehicle down to the water.
couldn't help to notice that you didn't use the rod holder on your left that faces forward instead you tried holding it in between your legs and finally setting it down by your feet Did you forget it was there or didn't like using it ?
I do like to use it when just for holding but anything else I’ve almost lost my rod a couple times while getting fish in the boat and taking them off. and my other kayaks I just lay them down. I like the concept and I like having it. But I’m just probably not used to all the extras on it yet.
Wondering if it would become like everything else have enjoy! A lot people not realizing how the Economy really affects everyone’s life. A good example was use to enjoy trying to hunt, however haveing a few kids ran straight into Either try to do right by them or the sport! Really over trying to bank fish ! Great looking little river ! The fluke was on fire for me the other day on smallmouth !! Love your kayak ! 👍👍

Just ordered my 120 pdl in grey ghost and I can't wait man

Solid yak, definitely looks like a huge upgrade from a paddle yak. Looked super stable too, especially when standing/casting. Good stuff.

They both wouldhave their ups and down. I have an insert on the way for those days where paddling would be needed most. It may be an answer
I have the exact same color and I love my old town.
Yes it’s great
Move your seat just a notch forward. You don't want your legs all the way extended at the bottom stroke.

Try switching the reel handle to the left for a day of fishing and let me know what you think about keeping your rod in one hand all the time...
