I think I’ve watched hundreds of kayak fishing videos. You were just what I needed, to me the benefit, is it’s all about fishing. A lot of the guys are into the gear I’m into the fishing. Give me a good stable/moveable platform (especially with the electric motor). The room was wonderful. I trout fish, and I don;t carry so much gear. Thank you

Actually typically when I go I have a kayak buddy that helps me lift. You can just use the bed of a truck perfectly fine. Dropping it out is interesting but very possible
haha, I've had my 120 AutoPilot for about 3 weeks now... Taking me some time to get used to using the remote but it is really bad azz... I knew there was the ability to record but thanks for pointing that out... I'll give it a try my next time out. Been worried about getting lost. lol Thanks. can't wait to get back out and give that a try. I've had a couple of calls to Minn Kota and to OldTown for help acquiring the kayak and getting some "how to" information and they have both been fantastic.
I ordered the Old Town Autopilot 136 a week ago. It won't be here until mid June but I can't wait. I love my current kayak but this will be a game changer! I wanted to point out that you really shouldn't just keep your life jacket in the tank well. On a kayak you should always wear it. I used to keep mine in the tank well also but after some flip testing last summer I decided that was a horrible idea. If you flip or fall out in deep water it's going to more difficult than you think to get that out and put it on. I use one of those pull cord inflatable life jackets so it doesn't impede my movement. I hardly even notice when I'm wearing it. Great video! Happy fishing!
The most comprehensive review I’ve found. Had been a Hobie guy for 15 years but I needed a more comfortable ride that was more stable and motorized. Seems like Hobie has a ton of catching up to do. You did a great job on this video and thank you for not running a distracting background sound track.

I have been a hobie guy for many years but this Old Town is a game changer. If the new 2020 Kayaks aren't coming out with some form of a fully integrated motor with that epic Spot Lock, they will be dinosaurs and behind the tech/times.
I must admit, this is the best setup I’ve seen. Our Family own’s 3 Wilderness Systems Pungo 120’s that I wouldn’t ever think of fishing out of. The Pungo’s are awesome for what they are designed to do. However fishing is not one of them. I have been looking for a fishing kayak for a few years now, but nothing excited me in the slightest way. I could foresee problems I know I don’t want to deal with. Like dealing with a Paddle, Anchor & Line, or a Power Poll Anchor, or Peddling. They all seemed to be retro fitted to make something work. This Old Town Kayak is a game changer and will revolutionize the sport. A product like this will also help people that are physical handicapped. Good Job Old Town & Minnkota you designed a wonderful product.
Game Changer Brother! You may be spending a lot up front for a kayak like this, but you will use this kayak for 20 years. At the end of it, you will have shoulders/knees that thank you!
Cool video thanks for the all the detail. The track setting allows you to follow a contour or weedline and then it will follow your previous path turning where you turned. It's real cool allowing you to repeat a drift or following along a shoreline even if its not straight. I am really tempted to pull the trigger on one. Question how do I explain to the wife I need a kayak when I already have a boat? Hmm, cheap to run? Think she'll buy it?
i Have decided to buy the kayak, great review but like you said the trolling motor is really the star player here! I have the ulterra on my deck boat and I got it when it first came out and I have nothing bad to say about it! In fact, if you get a capable fish finder you can link it to that trolling motor and get many more options out of it such as following a contour. You can tell the trolling motor through the fish finder to fish lets say 15' off the bank at 1mph moving to the left and it will do that, Its a hell of a setup!

Just picked mine up this weekend! It is actually my first Kayak, so I am super stoked! I couldn't justify spending close to the same on a PDL, just to regret not just buying the best to begin with. Now I'm just waiting for all my accessories to show up this week and hope to be trolling for Walleyes over the holiday weekend!!! Definitely getting one due to your great review. Not happy with the limited color choices. I would prefer regular camo but I’ll choose the blue. I’ll be going lithium. Any suggestions on what make and how big? Now at 73 yrs old, how is it getting in and out? Knees don’t work like they used to. Do you know if there available now? Do you have a phone number for Old Town? Can this Kayak sink? No mention of that in your video. Once again nice job! Bill
Getting in and one isn’t that bad, but then again I’m not at the point where my knees will hurt really bad. I don’t have Old Towns #, but their link to the kayak is in the description box below. I would order it direct from their website. The kayak is build to take a lot of water, but I’m sure would sink if you got a huge hole in it.
I'm super impressed with this boat. On the batteries, wether its a lead acid or lithium, what size amp hour is need for an 8 hour day of continuous use moving around. with paddling I was out up to 5 hours. Now I want the easy way.
Lead Acid group 27 100 AH batteries. Marine grade is the way to go. Ive seen it go 8hrs+ in 10-15 knot winds. Still had plenty of battery at the end of the day.
Bravos for a great vid and a great, great yak 👏. That's my DREAM YAK. I currently have the 106 non powered Sportsman. Next summer I'll have one like that one. I know how right it is. I don't think I could ever want anything more that what all that yak offers up.

This weekend was crazy wind out on the water. Kind of weird because it was still blistering hot and no storms. I have been eyeing a Titan 13.5 but after seeing this I think I'm going this route. Eliminates the need for Power Pole Micro. Currently on a Bonafide SS127 and wonder how standing stability would compare. Any info is appreciated!

Hey Chrissypoo.. Great video bro . I got an email from Old Town manufacturers that said their plant has been closed because of Coronavirus. But stated they were going to reopen and start deliveries again on 04/20/20.. But they have a lot of kayaks in backorder. So they couldn't give an exact date on my Sportsman 136 . @@CaptChrisCanning keep using it, keep adding stuff to it, and than you will find some 😉😂 for example, when you hook your fish finder to the provided rail, if you want it closer tu you, then it blocks the rod holder spot in the front.. Battery life if you use it over certain hours, how is it in the chuppy conditions?... That will be very helpful and useful for people 👍but man.. You are right.. It's the best kayak right now but far. I have the 2017 Hobie Outback Camo edition. I love it in every way. I go out in the open waters, I just wished it was faster and get to the places I want quicker without any effort just like Sportsman 120..😉

@@CaptChrisCanning I might.. It's just very expensive to start with. Plus a good Lithium battery 100 hours will cost you good $800! Plus, there is always a chance you getting stuck somewhere in the middle of the ocean 🙈 and you have no back up to come back... Mdlr fishing, Mark, for example, buying a second battery just to be on the safe side and go longer and further.. That's $1600 plus added to the 4k.. It's too much money to justify on a kayak right now. If you think about it, you can get so many boats over 5k will do the same or better job at that point.. But again, like i said, I do love it. And I think it the best kayak out there right now!
Hi, Thanks for an informative video on a nice kayak. I would LOVE to see a video of the record function following a contour along a shoreline. Question on the AutoPilot record function. When the unit is in the (go to) function i.e. playback can you adjust the speed. i.e. slow it down or speed it up or even pause it while it is traveling to its destination and then resume travel. This would be really nice if you had a shoreline that you fished regularly and wanted to stay a given distance from shoreline for casting purposes. If you could pause, put it in spot lock and fish some and then resume at a selected speed that would be AWESOME. Then when you get to the end of the recorded track you could just turn around and travel the other direction. John
I don’t see any place where you can put your fish in storage on the Kayak ! I see in all the kayak storage for everything else but for your catch that’s what missing on all the kayaks
It draft just a shallow if not more than any pedal drive kayak. You don’t paddle with this thing, no need. But if you need to it’s really not bad at all
I think they missed the mark on these storage areas on Kayaks. The little one on ur right should flip up and hold ur phone on the underside of it. Maybe the top can hold ur phone on it if ur using it at the time. I just feel they are not all that innovative in this market. At this point, I should be able to have a fully electric Kayak that can even recharge from the trailer itself, maybe made specifically for it or a way to retrofit any other trailer easily. Should have a flat deck on the rear that I can get back in, in open waters anyway, easily if I was swimming or fell in. A small built in ladder or something. Idk, I feel like if you had a group of kayakers together they can easily build something better than probably any company so idk why they are so slow to add things or change something the majority wanrs
So it's not ipilot link? I have a helix 9 g3n. Will it accept the ability to use the go to functions on the fish finder? What about using the jog function?
@@CaptChrisCanning I have a minn Kota ipilot on my boat. Had to add a heading sensor so the jog function would work. Does the troller have Bluetooth ability? That's how it recognizes the heading sensor.

Nice! I have a nuCanoe frontier 12 and this is the only thing that may upgrade to. The spot lock is a game changer.

Lead Acid group 27 100 AH batteries. Marine grade is the way to go. Ive seen it go 8hrs+ in 10-15 knot winds. Still had plenty of battery at the end of the day.
Bravos for a great vid and a great, great yak 👏. That's my DREAM YAK. I currently have the 106 non powered Sportsman. Next summer I'll have one like that one. I know how right it is. I don't think I could ever want anything more that what all that yak offers up.

This weekend was crazy wind out on the water. Kind of weird because it was still blistering hot and no storms. I have been eyeing a Titan 13.5 but after seeing this I think I'm going this route. Eliminates the need for Power Pole Micro. Currently on a Bonafide SS127 and wonder how standing stability would compare. Any info is appreciated!
Dude it is super stable, if you want to go with a kayak that long you might as well get the 136 AutoPilot, you will not be disappointed

Hey Chrissypoo.. Great video bro . I got an email from Old Town manufacturers that said their plant has been closed because of Coronavirus. But stated they were going to reopen and start deliveries again on 04/20/20.. But they have a lot of kayaks in backorder. So they couldn't give an exact date on my Sportsman 136 . So still waiting..ugh. These take are sick . Great video bro and lots of info. Always your friend, fan, and subscriber..

@@CaptChrisCanning keep using it, keep adding stuff to it, and than you will find some 😉😂 for example, when you hook your fish finder to the provided rail, if you want it closer tu you, then it blocks the rod holder spot in the front.. Battery life if you use it over certain hours, how is it in the chuppy conditions?... That will be very helpful and useful for people 👍but man.. You are right.. It's the best kayak right now but far. I have the 2017 Hobie Outback Camo edition. I love it in every way. I go out in the open waters, I just wished it was faster and get to the places I want quicker without any effort just like Sportsman 120..😉
You’re not wrong, there is always something you find that you dislike. One thing you never will with the auto pilot 120 is the effort you have to put in to get home 😎

@@CaptChrisCanning I might.. It's just very expensive to start with. Plus a good Lithium battery 100 hours will cost you good $800! Plus, there is always a chance you getting stuck somewhere in the middle of the ocean 🙈 and you have no back up to come back... Mdlr fishing, Mark, for example, buying a second battery just to be on the safe side and go longer and further.. That's $1600 plus added to the 4k.. It's too much money to justify on a kayak right now. If you think about it, you can get so many boats over 5k will do the same or better job at that point.. But again, like i said, I do love it. And I think it the best kayak out there right now!

Thanks for an informative video on a nice kayak.
I would LOVE to see a video of the record function following a contour along a shoreline.
Question on the AutoPilot record function.
When the unit is in the (go to) function i.e. playback can you adjust the speed. i.e. slow it down or speed it up or even pause it while it is traveling to its destination and then resume travel. This would be really nice if you had a shoreline that you fished regularly and wanted to stay a given distance from shoreline for casting purposes. If you could pause, put it in spot lock and fish some and then resume at a selected speed that would be AWESOME. Then when you get to the end of the recorded track you could just turn around and travel the other direction.

Okay, I didn’t test this. BUT I’m almost 100% that you can adjust the speed. It starts you off at 7.5 as a starting speed.

I don’t see any place where you can put your fish in storage on the Kayak ! I see in all the kayak storage for everything else but for your catch that’s what missing on all the kayaks
Does the cup holders drain? And what’s with the water pooling right in front of the seat on the deck?
Unfortunately the cupholder does not have a drain, maybe this is something they can fix in an updated version.

The motor is saltwater ready! This kayak had only been used in saltwater until this video was filmed.
Nothing like catching two fish on one lure! Gotta admit though I’ve done it before you’re fish were much better size.😉

It draft just a shallow if not more than any pedal drive kayak. You don’t paddle with this thing, no need. But if you need to it’s really not bad at all

Yes, it is a lead-acid battery! We get all day on the water with these batteries. 8-10hrs easy.

I think they missed the mark on these storage areas on Kayaks.
The little one on ur right should flip up and hold ur phone on the underside of it.
Maybe the top can hold ur phone on it if ur using it at the time.
I just feel they are not all that innovative in this market.
At this point, I should be able to have a fully electric Kayak that can even recharge from the trailer itself, maybe made specifically for it or a way to retrofit any other trailer easily.
Should have a flat deck on the rear that I can get back in, in open waters anyway, easily if I was swimming or fell in.

So it's not ipilot link? I have a helix 9 g3n. Will it accept the ability to use the go to functions on the fish finder? What about using the jog function?
It does connect to your helix 9! I’m not sure about the jog function, but I would think it would have it
@@CaptChrisCanning I have a minn Kota ipilot on my boat. Had to add a heading sensor so the jog function would work. Does the troller have Bluetooth ability? That's how it recognizes the heading sensor.
