As a man who’s pushing 300 lbs and has been looking into a yak for fishing, thank you for the confidence of knowing that I’ll be able to take part in this hobby
This is the kayak I have zeroed in on after the research. I plan to fish in the bay, so definitely rougher conditions. Thanks for the review. I am 62 ,female , I am going to fish till I cannot anymore!
I have been looking at the sportsmans 120 but thinking the 106 might be better. Being smaller and easier to handle wieght wise. I got some medical problems and get diz and do the crappie flop from time to time was going 120 thinking about the 106 now. Thanks for the video

I"ve been going back and forth between the sportsman and the topwater and you just sold me on the sportsman! First video i've watched of yours but definitely a sub now. Love the content man. Thank you sir!
Glad to help, I loved the Topwater but love the Sportsman even more. Being about to back away from the fish and pull them out of cover is awesome. You'll find several videos of this season of me fishing in it. Love it!

That is a awesome video. That is awesome that this kayak is working out for you. Especially getting the exercise for your knees I know that really helps. I've been doing a lot of bike riding , walking , kayaking this summer to help out with my knees and this is why I want this kayak. I like the fact that it can also carry some weight I'm big myself so I need a kayak that can hold everything. All I would need to do is get those custom foot pedals for these wide feet and I will be happy. Great video thank you for sharing.
I love your review, and the lighting sound effect when you hook a fish made me laugh every time! Lol. Please keep the videos coming. I’m 250 lbs so I really appreciate your content. Thanks!
I have this exact same kayak, same color too, traded up from the Oldtown Topwater 106. The PDL is absolutely amazing,I take it out on the great lakes up here in Canada 🇨🇦 and it handles like a champ in wind and rough water.Installed an anchor trolley which is a game changer in wind and current.
An inspiration thank you. I bought the 132 PDL same back and over weight issues and due to pain not getting in the water. Must get more water time for that fishersizing.
Great video. Just got the same model and am also loving it. My first fishing kayak (only have previously done bank fishing) and it is like a whole new world has opened up for me. Very well produced video!

Cool video! The sound effects are perfect. I’m 62, 5’4”- 175 and my research led me to the same kayak. It’s light enough to car top (Buick Encore), easily loads in and out with the help of a cart for those distance hauls to the dock and most importantly I get my “fishersize” lol I have to share this: I fished a creek off the James River that had current flowing out as I approached. Boat position being critical in current, I spun the kayak around and peddled up the creek backwards. I was able to keep my bait in the strike zone longer and fish with the current and never touched my paddle. Try that with an electric powered haha A big plus is you have a private pee trough as well.

My 106 Topwater PDL is awesome, but I'll be honest, I get too much water in the cockpit when I stand! Otherwise, I'm with you. You ever get back to NC, let's "bump a stump and catch a fish!"
Great video! Currently, I have the Sportsman 106 paddle version on order. Now, I’m seriously thinking of changing it to the PDL version. I know it’s ALOT more money but is it worth it?
I sold my Topwater paddle to get into the Sportsman PDL and have ZERO regrets. HIGHLY recommend. I spent 13 hours fishing the other day. That' pretty impressive for someone of my weight and bad back and knees. You won't regret it.
Nice video again! I love chatterbaits. I've been eyeballing some kayaks myself. I really like that one. My lower back is shot also. How would you describe the resistance while peddling?
it's literally nothing, I'm not kidding. I was shocked how fast I could go with almost no effort. I was moving along yesterday to a different spot and was doing over 3mph according to the Garmin.
That lakes beautiful. I really like the wall of trees. I live in North California so some places have Redwoods in or near the water. Its an amazing site. Where is this?

how much gear in pounds do you think you carry? Im about 5'10 300lbs and was wondering if this would be good or should i get the 120. I wont be carrying all that much besides a couple rods and backpack with tackle and water
I couldn't tell you, but there are several videos with me in this yak over a couple of seasons. Never did I feel like I ever got close to having too much in it. Had I had a trailer first, I probably would have got the 120, but at the time I was hauling it in my truck. The extra room in the 120 is nice.
Anyone 6'4 or so and own a 106? I want a 120 but they are not in stock or if they are shipping is 299-500$ lol... Wondering how cramped I'd be or if I'd be okay.
I don't stand because of my bad knee. There are a ton of folks who love them. Best bet is to wait until you get it, then test with a 2x4 to see if you prefer 1inch or 2.
I drove from Bedford up to Culvers Portside Marina to pick up the Sportsman. Worth every minute. I do know that Dick's Sporting Goods and Dunham's stocks Old Town Kayaks as well.
Hey I just saw that you live in the town I grew up in. I would love to meet up, and get some advice on kayak fishing as I am facing retirement years. Would this be possible? I live in Bartholomew Co, and still have a lot of family in Lawrence Co.
I'm 6'1 250... I have a Perception Outlaw 11.5 I want a pedal drive now... I was looking at the sportsman 120pdl can't find them anywhere... I wonder if I would notice the cut in length in the 106
Recently purchased a Sportsman 120 pdl. Unfortunately everything is iced over so I can't get it out. I did sit in it with the pdl drive down. Issue I'm having is I'm 5' 2" or so 267lb with a big ol belly. What have you found to be the best adjustment on the seat so it's comfortable to pedal? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm very discouraged and to How my legs are in my gut making it uncomfortable. Hope I made the right purchase
I know it can be done, there is a youtuber named That Bass Fishin Dude who's 7ft and fishes out of a yak. I would definitely take a look at the Old Town SPORTSMAN BIGWATER PDL 132 for your comfort and weight.
@@mikestackz854 both are great choices. The 106 still worked great for me when I was well over 300 pounds. The AutoPilot 120 has been good to me for a little more room and extra weigh capacity.
Just an update. I recently received my old town sportsman 120 and it supports me at 400lbs just fine. Stability while in the lower seating position is great and in the higher position it is good. Does have some rock side to side in the higher position but I don't feel like it's going to tip. Love it so far.
@@bigmax7830 I don't have the peddle drive. A small amount of water comes up through the scrubber holes while paddling but I fixed that issue with soft foam gold balls.

I couldn't tell you, but there are several videos with me in this yak over a couple of seasons. Never did I feel like I ever got close to having too much in it. Had I had a trailer first, I probably would have got the 120, but at the time I was hauling it in my truck. The extra room in the 120 is nice.
Let’s go! CHATTERBAIT!!
Sweet review!! Does it go in reverse?!
yup, just pedal backwards
Anyone 6'4 or so and own a 106? I want a 120 but they are not in stock or if they are shipping is 299-500$ lol... Wondering how cramped I'd be or if I'd be okay.
I got the sportsman pdl 120 on the way I’m pumped
sweeet!!!
@@FishinwithGRAMPS question tho do those 1 inch rear risers help and does it make it anymore unsteady
I actually took them off, didn't make any difference one way or the other for me. Yak stable regardless.
@@FishinwithGRAMPS ok so there’s no need to get any? They didn’t make it easier to stand up or nothing
I don't stand because of my bad knee. There are a ton of folks who love them. Best bet is to wait until you get it, then test with a 2x4 to see if you prefer 1inch or 2.
I weigh 330 do I think it LL be a good idea to buy this 106. I'm really looking forward to buying a kayak Rio grande river fishing
Looking forward for my second kayak
I am just a few pounds less and it works fine for me
Where did you get the scupper plugs ? Old town is sold out and I been looking on Amazon but not sure if they will work
These are the ones I have under my seat amzn.to/2RkT81b
I have been looking at these i live in Indiana trying to find a dealer that isn't 100 miles away.
I drove from Bedford up to Culvers Portside Marina to pick up the Sportsman. Worth every minute. I do know that Dick's Sporting Goods and Dunham's stocks Old Town Kayaks as well.
Thanks for the great video! Subbed... and busted the bell!
Hey I just saw that you live in the town I grew up in. I would love to meet up, and get some advice on kayak fishing as I am facing retirement years. Would this be possible? I live in Bartholomew Co, and still have a lot of family in Lawrence Co.
That would be some! You can find me on Instagram or email me at FishinWithGramps @ gmail
I’m a big guy too, but how tall are you? Trying to see if I will fit, I’m 6’2”
What video editing software are you using? If I may lol.
Filmora
I'm 6'1 250... I have a Perception Outlaw 11.5 I want a pedal drive now... I was looking at the sportsman 120pdl can't find them anywhere... I wonder if I would notice the cut in length in the 106
Doubt it, the extra length is in the back mostly
@@FishinwithGRAMPS hmm ok thanks
That thing is a mini war ship 😁
Recently purchased a Sportsman 120 pdl. Unfortunately everything is iced over so I can't get it out. I did sit in it with the pdl drive down. Issue I'm having is I'm 5' 2" or so 267lb with a big ol belly. What have you found to be the best adjustment on the seat so it's comfortable to pedal? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm very discouraged and to How my legs are in my gut making it uncomfortable. Hope I made the right purchase
I'm 5'7 and 325. I just adjust the seat so I can pedal like I would a bike and go.
@@FishinwithGRAMPS are you more in a reclined position? Are your legs fully extended as you pedal?
@@georgewright6592 my seat is in the higher position. My leg isn't quite fully extended, per proper pedaling technique I learned from years on a bike.
Do you still need an anchor when you have a pdl drive since you can move frontwards & backwards?
Yeah, I will always put an anchor wizard in the front for wind or river current
Can you store rods inside the hull when transporting the kayak?
I can't remember with that model, but I think so.
Great video sir thx! Can you share your height and weight?
lol, short and fat
Neat video .....
I have A106 sportsman pdl being delivered next week....
New sub here too
welcome aboard, you're gonna love that yak!
Do you have any problems with water coming in from the peddle drive system ?
no, I get water in from the scupper holes. Many chose to block them with those foam golf balls.
I am looking for a big man fishing kayak. I sold my Ranger bass boat. I am 6'9 and 405 and as tall upper as lower. Do not know where to begin
I know it can be done, there is a youtuber named That Bass Fishin Dude who's 7ft and fishes out of a yak. I would definitely take a look at the Old Town SPORTSMAN BIGWATER PDL 132 for your comfort and weight.
@@FishinwithGRAMPS Thanks
Can you tell me where you bought your fishing rod bag
www.prolockeroutdoors.com/
ok you sold me!
Did you say your height/weight for reference for all of us big fellas
5'7, 330# (lost 10 lbs) lol
Need some seat risers where did you get yours?
here you go navarrekayakfishing.com/shop/old-town-seat-risers/
Who makes that rod bag?
LOVE the Pro Locker Outdoors Rod Bag, bought my first one 20 years ago: amzn.to/3xkAUQo
What is the song on this video
no clue, something from the youtube collection
how much you you weigh if u dont mind me asking im 300 looking to buy this
330
Does it tend to spin or turn in moving water/current
Nope, handles like a dream
@@FishinwithGRAMPS I’m debating whether the 106 or 120
@@mikestackz854 both are great choices. The 106 still worked great for me when I was well over 300 pounds. The AutoPilot 120 has been good to me for a little more room and extra weigh capacity.
Do you think this kayak would work for a 6'2" guy that weighs 400lbs?
I would say you'd have to get into one of the bigger models. NuCanoe Unlimited would be a good fit.
Just an update. I recently received my old town sportsman 120 and it supports me at 400lbs just fine. Stability while in the lower seating position is great and in the higher position it is good. Does have some rock side to side in the higher position but I don't feel like it's going to tip. Love it so far.
I noticed that spacing, will probably put something there to keep it from shifting
@@dustinbartlow4318 do you get water in with the drive up I am 350 and was wondering how dry of a ride it is
@@bigmax7830 I don't have the peddle drive. A small amount of water comes up through the scrubber holes while paddling but I fixed that issue with soft foam gold balls.
HEY HEY I HAVE HAD 2 CUSTOMERS THIS WEEK COMMENT ABOUT SEEING ME ON THIS VIDEO. ANYTIME YOU NEED ANOTHER KAYAK COME SEE ME 10% OVER COST FOR YOU., KEEP SENDING PPL MY WAY THANK YOU
You guys have a great shop! Might have to shop for a Sportsman AutoPilot 120 some day.
What lake is that sir?
It's called Seed Tick. On a small federal installation in southern Indiana.
@@FishinwithGRAMPS thank you. I live near Indianapolis. I'll look it up.
@@rogerharris1561 not open to the public, but there is plenty of good fishing up in Indy. My bother lives in Greenwood
Hello there I'm 6" and 334 lb just wonder wich one will be dest for me
Best is always subjective, but I would say the 120 based in your height
If you decide to get a trailer get a Yakima. You won’t regret it.
I have tried a few different trailers over the last couple of years, they sure do make it easier
What size crate
linked the description
Can you stand up on this ?
can I? Yes. Do I? No. My left knee isn't very stable.
2500$ now wtf
inflation sucks, vote wisely.
