    pro tip. Use the clear gesso on the BACK of your coloring book pages instead of the front to prevent bleed through. This way you are still coloring on the paper and not on the gesso with the alcohol markers and no bleed through ;).

    I am really glad that you made this video. I have a large number of sets of colored pencils. Budget,artist quality and in between. I love them all. When I look at my completed pages I can't tell the difference, at all in the quality of my work. The difference is more in the ease and increased enjoyment I get from the higher end sets. I use these less often because I don't want to frequently be having to replace open stock pencils. So I rotate what I use. I love experiencing the different color palettes, texture ,and laydown of different sets.

      I love this! I eventually want to invest in some higher quality pencils but I’ll probably be too scared to use them too often for the same reason!

    I have the 150 set of Prismacolors and I love them. Beautiful colors and excellent blending. And because they're a soft pencil they're easy on the hands.

    I live in Italy and Stickles are nowhere to be found. And I think they are expensive. So I do them myself. I have a few basic colors and I am happy with them. You just need little containers, free glitters and clear glue. I found a video on TH-cam on how to make them, i do not recall which one was but I am sure that there are many. Happy coloring. Sending love from Italy. Rita ❤

    The brutfuners are so affordable, and are wonderful. In fact even though I own a number of budget sets, these are my favorite. I have actually bought another set as a back up. They perform like polychromes. Good choice.❤

    I would advise you to buy some prismas on open stock first. And just try them out before you buy the whole set. Prisms used to be my dream, but it turns out that such buttery pencils are not for me. And it turns out that they dirty the pages easily....

    Hi Kira ! Great suggestions.
    As you said i started with budget pencils available here in Italy, with a set of 36 colours, a set of 48 water based markers and 2 books of Johanna Basford but the pencils were awful and the markers are too juicy and bleed through even in cardboard so i saved some little money every month and bought 10 or 15 Polychromos (i would have loved Prismas but i couldn't find them in shops and Amazon is too expensive).
    In a year time i had the full set but it took me quite a while to get used to oil based pencils.
    This month i ordered the 126 set of Arrtx to try out wax based pencils.
    I own some white, gold and silver gel pens and 2 white Poscas
    but completely abandoned the markers (for now).
    And that's it.
    This is all i need to colour.
    'till the next time.
    Cheers from Italy.
    Dan 🧡

    I have gone overboard on colouring, books, pencils. Markers, crayons etc. in the past 6 months probably over $3000, 00 ( Australian) i was actually horrified, until i realised that when i was a smoker ( 4 packs a week), in todays money, that is $200.00 A WEEK!!!!., so if i still smoked, i would be spending over $10,000 per year, and i smoked for 20 odd years, with nothing but crap health and deep regret to show for it. Now my $3000.00 in 6 months with a ton of stuff i absolutely love, and a new habit i actually enjoy is a change I'm more than happy to make. What im trying to say is that, even though some things may seem stupid expensive, they are going to last a very long time, i thoroughly believe that if you want the expensive stuff, dont feel guilty to spoil yourself, BUT you really dont need to spend mega dollars to gave a fun, satisfying hobby. By the way. The ohuhu pastel 96 set is on amazon au for $100

    The reason people advise against hair spray is that over time (years), it will yellow the paper. If you dont care, I'd say more power to ya keep doing what works for you. I'm a traditional artist who uses coloring books to play around with varius mediums without having to come up with the composition. Gesso will add a lot of texture to your page, basically turning it into sandpaper, and it will chew through pencils really fast. But! There's a workaround! You can paint multiple layers of gesso on your page (like 3 or 4) and sand it smooth. I would practice on pages you dont care about or scrap paper first. Cheep pencils are great! I use crayola. The hardest thing about cheep pencils is that its impossible to get rich dark colors, but a great work around is to base the area you want to have richer colors with something that can go as dark as you're looking for. For me, it's the ohuhu version of tombow markers.

      Oh my gosh, that is so helpful!! Thank you so much 🥰I'll definitely try that trick with the gesso (on my amazon paper books 😉)

      @annaknitter 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I heard that too. But for my pages I can say still after approximately seven years non of the pages I used hairspray on turned yellow. Probably it’s not a problem in a closed book but it can be a problem if you put out on the wall.

    Prismacolor pencils maybe more on the expensive side BUT you can by single pencils open stock from Officeworks and such to replace pencil’s so you don’t have to buy a new full set. Baking paper is a great way to protect your wips and the pages opposite so your pencil doesn’t transfer. Furballs is an amazing book, no need to stress about the large spaces as the book itself is not too big. It’s a bit bigger than a hand.❤❤

    • @Shannttelle
      @Shannttelle 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@stellajean3020 also called wax paper or baking sheets. You use it in the oven on trays when baking cookies. Also the wax paper lunch bags work too. I cut the bottom off and split the sides. The wax coating protects the other pages as well as the one you are working on. Also stops transfer of colour from working on other pages in your book. 😊

    With the gesso you can sand it a bit to take the tooth out. I haven’t tried doing that but I know some people do. With the fine grain 😊 than your markers/brushes would be safe

    Kmart is another source of good budget art supplies - the Anko brand is surprisingly good. This is my go to shop for buying for the grandkids, and I found that some of the supplies were as good and in some circumstances better than my expensive brands.
    I always store my Ohuhu markers horizontal and I have never had them dry up- except when I have

I do have high-end pencils but I use more of my budget pencils because I'm getting marvelous results, and I love them. 🥹🙌🏽🩷🩷.. I have to try the pentel metallic Gel pens though 😂... ive the 150 set of primascolors they were on sale last year or year before here on amazon ca but ngl i get soo overwhelmed by how many pencils there are and which colors to use etc. plus idk the way they look on paper i dont like it sometimes..maybe its just me and or im not using em correctly! ive the large set of ohuhu markers too i cant remember if they 160 or something like that they were on sale on amazon ca too a few years ago i havent been using em bc most coloring books cant use markers bc they bleed thru unfornately and some of my markers are runnin out :c at some point i wanna get a new set but at same time i feel like they will just sit and wont get used bc double pages. also wanna get some gel pens and metalic ones (ive been using my moms lately, they so easy to color with and faster than pencils. i also have some coloring books on my wishlist.

    15 yr colourist…… Kalour beats brutfuner cold. The Prismacolor blender is not good, there are a lot of better options. My picks, Derwent blender and burnisher,CD blender, and to mute or pastel tint, the prisma white, Derwent drawing Chinese white, or CD Luminance white. Watercolour pencils, only choose FC Albrecht Durer, or for ink based Derwent Inktense. CD neo-colours or FCGelatos, soft pastels are great for backgrounds. Acrylic markers.. Arrtx is the best, . Gel pens are a waste of money if you try to put them over pencil, the wax clogs them. Ohuhu are great, store them on their side, my 2020 sets are still good. I love pentel water brushes best. NO to hairspray! It will yellow your pages, workable fixative is not that expensive you should ruin your work with hairspray. As a fellow Australian, keep your eye on Amazon for prisma, they go on sale from time to time. I have a collecting problem , and have all the pencils 🙈….. My single pick for top shelf investment pencils… Derwent Lightfast.
