    My grandpa was an old school timber-framer. He started as an apprentice in 1910. When I got home at nights he would put all his axes and hatches head-down in a bucket of linseed oil mixed with a little kerosene. The liquid mix was just deep enough to cover the wood exposed at the top maybe two inches deep. The end grain wold soak that stuff and swell the wood to keep his heads tight thru a week of tough work.

    Buckin’, another great video as usual. You’re the freakin man!!! All Stihl equipment has the same starting sequence. Not sure about the newer M-Tronic stuff, but all of the pre M-Tronic stuff is throttle in, choke all the way down, pull till it pops, one click up, pull till it starts, blip the throttle! I’m a husky man myself but my dad is a stihl guy and I grew up running the legendary 041 Farmboss and the MS290 Farmboss. Great saws for firewood and light felling. In my humble weekend warrior opinion, the 372xp is arguably the best chainsaw man has ever devised!!! Peace and love brother!!!

    • @FishFind3000
      @FishFind3000 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      tim smith the m tronic is even easier. I have one all you do is full throttle and push down locking on the choke/ high idle and keep pulling till it starts. Then let warm up and blip the throttle. Also the m tronics have the auto returning stop button so no more starting when the saws in stop.

      @@nickl2268 Depends if its muffler modded/ported etc. If it is, it can handle 24 in hardwood, even 28 but the oiler isn't enough for that length. EPA really screwed the potential of modern saws sadly, kind of nuts to think that a 50cc modded saw cuts like a 70cc stock saw. Amazing machines.

    Just ran across your video this morning.
    Had to subscribe.
    It's rare but anyone who "feels" the beauty of a Quality handmade tool with this much enthusiasm automatically gets my vote!
    I purchased a Stihl 261 several weeks ago but haven't had a chance to use it. I did not get the Mtronic. In this area most seasoned professionals would rather adjust the carburetor on the fly as opposed to dropping it off at a dealership so they can hook it to a computer for diagnosing.

  • @marshaallen3965
    @marshaallen3965 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Morning Buckin. You’ve probably figured it out by now. The Stihl M-Tronic saws are auto-tuning. The operation switch, has only three positions. For a cold start, you depress the trigger and put the switch in the bottom position, this is the start position. It’ll auto choke itself to start. Let it run a little, then press the trigger and the switch will move to the run position. Push up to shut off. Dunno why some people seem to dislike these saws so much, probably an issue to change... The one I purchased Xmas before last, has been working just great for me so far (ms362rcm). I kinda like the Stihl saws myself, and figure if I purchase another, I’ll wait for the ms500i to be released here in the states. All the videos I’ve watched on it so far, it seems pretty awesome...

      @krustysurfer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      because the Mtronics can run lean and blow up if you dont take care of them that is (clogged air filter) why we didnt grab a MS461 for slabbing and went Husqy 395XP instead - the local stihl dealer wanted me to pick up a 880 but i couldn't afford a divorce :P eventually we will get the saw ported and tuned for longevity my saw will run a a 56" chain with aux oiler ... they use the big 880 stihls at the pallet factories in town here..... that is a testimony Blessings and aloha T

    Amazing to see your tuned one though, like wow! Ha I would never choose to log, ring or buck a log that size with mine. Mine is just a great little felling, limbing and firewood chunking saw on 18" or less. I do Bury its bar sometimes of course. 😉

      I love that saw too. It is very light and quite powerful with a 20" bar. I had a McCullough Titan 50 that was a great saw with more grunt and a 3/8" chain but the ms261c has been a very good and reliable saw. I'm now working on a Mac 3-10 with electric start that I found. On the job sight, I never have to look at an axe across the job and wonder if it is mine or not. You talked about burning the end there with your dull sand paper. same principle I think to seal up the grain. I just do it to the whole handle.

It's light in the hand for limbing too but it packs a punch, I'm glad I got it over 241, a friend has it and its 6.1kg fully stacked, so 1lb less, but its 3.1hp while 261 is 4.1. It's a killer. Ran about 12 gas tanks through it so far and it's finally coming to life in it's final form power wise. I'll probably muffler mod it/remove limiters once out of the 2 year warranty. My absolute go to saw outside of my day job is the little Husqvarna 550xp with a .325 20" and as long as you take good care of the chain it will pull a 20" all day. To many people say the 50cc saws can't do it but set the depth gauges right and put a good edge on it and you are good to go. I am even milling 17" shell bark hickory with the 550 sharpened at 10* semi chisle and it's doing alright. With that said I can't begin to explain what I would guve for a good splitting axe and a good 70+cc saw right now. Besides money cuz I just don't have that.

    I normally press the throttle while engaging chock,let go and pull cord so it turns a bit. I then move it too fast idle(press throttle and it will jump out of choke) and pull cord and engine starts flawless everytime. Good saws.

    Spent a fair bit of time on a 261 and when they’re working they are great saw for coppice cutting but they have a notorious problem with clutch bearing failure and if ya don’t catch it straight away then the bearing eats the end of the crank which once it’s out of warranty will most likely write off the saw

    I finally see you run a Stihl besides your toppin saw! I cut a lot of wood with an 044 Magnum trying to keep hours off my SP81. Great saw til it finally let go. I sent you another GoPro today, so keep an eye out for it. Use it up!

    Looks nice and comfy in the Bunker with the stove and Scooby fan going.
