I'll be honest, I prefer this game over Scrutinized. You're up against a supernatural threat while you solve murder mysteries, but unliked Scrutinied, this game seem to give you more time to investigate and fend off incoming threats while you progress the game. As a result, it leaves you with enough incentive to want to invest yourself in each little mystery you come across. That one case with just two people, the victim and suspect, was the stand out for me on how unsettling it was when you notice that something is wrong with the case at face value.
Same, Scrutinized was cool for what it had but the time cruncher was a real joy killer. The lady you play as, it doesn't really make sense that you have to be finished at a specific time. If she had that much determination to hunt down the killer of her relative she would use as much time as she had to finish her reports for that night. Would have been cool that we could have increased the time by making coffee or something. Would be another thing to worry about but that'd help with the time limit. It makes for some fun videos to watch, but for me to play it? No thanks. 😂
I agree. Scrutinized depends on the stress factor to make it scary, but this game is just downright creepy in itself. I also really like that you can keep the ritual candle off while you read so that you can really take your time and enjoy the cases. I do hope they add a few more interesting threats to mix things up. Like if you had to extinguish the candle when the red light happens, or if they had something you need to hide from for a short while. But even if they don't, I really like the crime-solving. If they make it available for workshop cases at some point, this game can become huge.
I can bet my life that they were high and drunk during that time. A close indicator would be the book "Go Ask Alice." I don't remember the drug's name, but I know it's a speed which can keep people up for several days. Please note that I don't do drugs, but I research alot of information because I am interested in detective work and I enjoy writing and not to mention I enjoy learning about old ways of nursing for writing purposes.
Really fun little game to watch being played, and I'm glad some horror devs are thinking beyond the standard "find x items around a location" or "wait for event to unlock". Having an investigation element within the game, whilst the supernatural stuff is happening, is a really nice touch. Also good to see John get spooked as it doesn't happen often! Looking forward to the rest of this playthrough whenever the game emerges from Early Access.
24:34 little history lesson to explain why Mr. Kinnerk as an Irishman would have issues with the locals: In the early 1900s when a wave of Irish immigrants came to America they were often faced with hostility and mistreatment from Americans. Mr Kinnerk is noted as a new Irish immigrant who is proud of his heritage, so he wouldn't put up with xenophobic locals.
If this is set in the UK, the exact same thing applies to the Irish who moved to England. Manchester, for example, has loads of Irish immigrants and descendants and not one of them would let the English treat them badly.
@@redisthecoolestcolour At the beginning of the game it says they're in the States, but even so yeah there's 800 years of history showing the British being absolutely terrible to the Irish, to put it mildly.

I LOVE how the "spooky face" made you buy it...and it turned out to be quite the well made game. Not one "red means scary" or any other genuine complaint lol.
Back in the olden days of Harshly Critical I was stripped of all hope that people could improve at making horror games. Now in the age of Wolfe there is the possibility of redemption for everyone. There are plenty of things I could quibble with with this game, but that pretty much goes for all games and in general this is a complete surprise as a solid and original indie horror game.

Thanks for uploading! This game looks really great! I love how there's so many different ways to learn more about the suspects and how it enables you to piece together the story behind each murder. The horror aspect seems very solid as well, the jumpscares are quite effective.
I remember Palmyra Orphanage, pretty shocked to see the same dev make such a good game. It could definitely use a plain language overhaul or something though.
Yeah, looking at the wheel you use to determine the time of death, after you confirm the time the button changed to what looks like Russian? Meaning English probably isn’t their first language. Along with that I’m pretty sure Russian is a gendered language, which is likely why the devs used he/him instead of they/them. I’m guessing the translation was probably done by the devs themselves or a friend who has a better grip on English. Technically it would’ve been better if a translator was hired, but hiring a translator is risky work. Finding someone who is fluent in both languages along with having enough knowledge of both cultures to localize it is a pretty big feat, especially as an indie dev. On top of that there’s also scammers in the translation industry, I remember one of my favorite indie game teams getting scammed on a rather expensive English translation of their first game, left the game with a translation kinda like this one for few years until the devs could hire a proper translation team to redo it. So I can’t really blame the creators for being nervous or not knowing where to look for a proper translation team.
WOAH! That game was super good and hella scary. I did originally watch the stream for this, but honestly the way this was edited for this video is a much better viewing experience. The actual figuring out the clues does take a long bit. Great video, John!
Haven't finished the video yet but I just want to say, this is a HUGE improvement over and departure from "Palmyra Orphanage". Good on the devs for coming up with a complex but workable series of mechanics and an intriguing storyline. The translation is a bit off in some spots, and yeah, the Tarot portion is a struggle, but it is overall really impressive and engaging - I can't believe how many times John (and I, and my child, watching) got effectively spooked because we were so focused on finishing the task at hand. Plus this is one of those rare games that combines two things I love - detective stories / mystery and the occult / metaphysics - which is immediately interesting. Excellent work, bravo devs, and thank you John for playing! I love when you play puzzle games, it's always a joy to "play along" and watch you figure it out. Take care!
Wow this game is actually interesting and I will be purchasing it myself. It seems fun,has different elements of both threat and mystery and heavily reminds me of criminal minds×Ghostbusters. Its honestly refreshing to see somebody make this sort of game, but unlike other attempts this game actually gives you time to fight against the threat before you die. Really enjoyed it :)
I have to say the most amusing thing about this game is the fact that it's dated in the beginning of the 20th century and all the photos look like they were picked out of tinder lmao
It's actually amazing to see John thoroughly enjoying a horror game. I agree with his distaste of the astrology part with trying to find the time of death. Other than that, I think this game has a charm to it that a lot of modern horror games doesn't have. This game definitely has my support.
I love these kinds of games! I first found you with Scrutinized, I loved watching you play that. It was so fun to see you get freaked out for once, even though you being calm most of the time helps me be able to watch scary games easier.
What a cool game. Thats one of the best parts of watching Johns videos. You know whats good, and whats not, and what you yourself as a player will enjoy. I definitely want to try this one out.
It's been so long since I've been excited for a game's full release. Nice!! I love that it still spooked John without just laying it on thick and cheesy. It was full of atmosphere and now all the lights are on in my house. Woot.
Watching this again while John is on break, because I remember really liking this game. And I still do, I'm excited all over again to see the full game! :D Lol I loved the moment at 01:06:42 with John's delivery and the zoom-in edits
Aw, man, I was hoping it's the entire game and we'll get to see the conclusion! But maybe it's for the better, cause it's really awesome and we'll get to see more elaborate plot development. :)
This game is so cool! The atmosphere in itself is just unsettling, but those scares really got me, hahaha, terrifying! Also, it was super fun to watch you solve these mysteries! I reaaallly want to know what happens in the rest of this story, I'm so invested, haha
The problem I had with the introduction is that the monologue fails to make Mrs Randolph likeable to the player. If they made her a kind sympathetic grandmother, who was too upset to address the parents' murders, then it makes sense why the main character goes back to her house. But instead they make her sound unsympathetic to the point the main character ignores her letters. They also say she refused to tell the main character what happened to his parents, then a few sentences later he says "she was trying to tell us" Also the names and pictures in the dossiers are too modern for the time setting
This game looks exceptional even as a demo. I would love to see you play it when it goes into full release, John! I keep coming back to this video because the whole concept is fantastic and is beautifully executed
Seems like a really good game for just $7. I always wonder how the graphics can be so good for game such as this. I assume you can get cheap assets fairly easily?

This game is scary as hell, I love it. It's done so well. I love mystery solving games like this but then when it turns scary it does it so well!!
It's been so long since I've been excited for a game's full release. Nice!! I love that it still spooked John without just laying it on thick and cheesy. It was full of atmosphere and now all the lights are on in my house. Woot.
It's so rare to see John being impressed by a game and not a single "Red means scary y'all" lol
The way the cases tie in with personal motivation and the story!! This is amazing!
3:05 Yeah, but you gotta admit, it's a cool-ass deer skull! ^^
This game is like Scrutinized in The Sinking City and I really really dig it.
Looking forward to the rest of this game when it comes out in full, still rare to see John get spooked these days
Watching this again while John is on break, because I remember really liking this game. And I still do, I'm excited all over again to see the full game! :D Lol I loved the moment at 01:06:42 with John's delivery and the zoom-in edits
I love it when the doors to the house are always locked from the outside.
Aw, man, I was hoping it's the entire game and we'll get to see the conclusion! But maybe it's for the better, cause it's really awesome and we'll get to see more elaborate plot development. :)
i loved watching this live, didn't have much expectations with the game but it was definitely nice to see!
Perfect! I was holding off starting the video until my lunch break, so now I've got something to sit back and watch.
Yay new upload! I was having a terrible day so im extra happy about the long video!
The introvert thing to do in that situation is to not even go to the 3 day party
“I didn’t hear the intro because I was too distracted by the old woman’s name being Randolph.” 😂😂
This game is so cool! The atmosphere in itself is just unsettling, but those scares really got me, hahaha, terrifying! Also, it was super fun to watch you solve these mysteries! I reaaallly want to know what happens in the rest of this story, I'm so invested, haha
Very entertaining. Thank you for playing, John.
The only thing that was missing in this was the iconic "Hey guys, it's John" 💔
Wow. I loved that. So mad this episode rotted in my watch later playlist for so long! And what a pity that it is early access. I wanted more!
I really loved this one! Amazing as always John!
I laugh so hard at John's Sarcasm and commentary, I love it sm
The problem I had with the introduction is that the monologue fails to make Mrs Randolph likeable to the player. If they made her a kind sympathetic grandmother, who was too upset to address the parents' murders, then it makes sense why the main character goes back to her house. But instead they make her sound unsympathetic to the point the main character ignores her letters. They also say she refused to tell the main character what happened to his parents, then a few sentences later he says "she was trying to tell us"
Also the names and pictures in the dossiers are too modern for the time setting
Honestly this was alotta fun great vibe and definitely alot more entertaining then a walkin scary simulator
Watching John jump was priceless! Please play the whole game when it comes out!!
Such a good game with a fresh idea! This was really fun to follow, can't wait to see what will come up when it's finished :)
This game looks exceptional even as a demo. I would love to see you play it when it goes into full release, John! I keep coming back to this video because the whole concept is fantastic and is beautifully executed
What an awesome game in both concept and how it was presented. Excited to see more.
I love the cuts in this video and I love John's reactions
This game was cool as hell and I'd love to see John play it more when it comes out!
man, it's so fun to see John get scared shitless. It's so rare!
This is the earliest i have ever been. love you john.
Seems like a really good game for just $7. I always wonder how the graphics can be so good for game such as this. I assume you can get cheap assets fairly easily?
That can be a factor but also the fact the game takes place indoors only in pitch black night and in one location definitely saves a lot of demand.
