    The best part about my job is getting the chance to live with these brand new vehicles! It's obviously fun but it also give me a chance to see things from a different perspective, a perspective that most people only experience once they have made a financial commitment. Thankfully this video will give you all of the experience without the commitment! Enjoy and remember to like this video by giving it a thumbs up! Thank you so much for watching! Look. I'm an old man, and I'm about to have my first (edit)kid, and Proches and Ferarri's just don't attract me anymore. What attracts me are everyday, regular cars that just excel at practicality, pay immaculate attention to detail, are still fun to drive, and, somehow, look this gorgeous. This is, for me, personally, the most exciting and beautiful car I've ever seen.

    It seems that your review is one of the rare videos about new Mazda 3 where proportions of the exterior are not distorted. Many reviews show this hatch via wide lenses. Here this hatch is beautiful, it is shown the same as is in reality.

    Just 7:51 in and you've noted two things that Mazda has put a lot of work in. I was at the Hiroshima HQ of Mazda in Japan yesterday for a tour (my 4th). Although a lot has changed over the years, the one thing that remains the same is their modesty. This is a Japanese trait (The Japanese Shinkansen (bullet train) for example introduced a lot of technology years before the French TGV, but the French have blown their trumpet about the TGV for thing that the Japanese quietly, humbly did with modest decades prior). Mazda's Japanese way on the tour is, yeah we do this and we're working very hard, but it's in telling stories that one stops and has to say - damn, you did what?
    I was about to reach for a copy of their magazine which tells the story of the "clicky-claky" button feel you spoke of. I have the article at home, but the copy I picked up in Hiroshima is all in Japanese. And my Japanese isn't good enough to get the quote. So from memory, Mazda employed a psychologist/anthropologist to study human behaviour.
    This is their latest study (using the psychologist/anthropologist) and it tried to access the perfect sounds and feelings that a button or dial should have, from the amount of resistance and feedback to the sound it should make. They did a lot of tests with the public, and tried to nail the buttons based on the emotions that the person felt. What resulted was a button design that has several layers of varying metals and varying types of rubbers, just to ensure that the "click" was just right. Serious stuff.
    Their studies have been in depth over many years, and have extended previous studies on body movement (or attempting to minimise body movement). This study has worked its way into the seats on this three, which have been designed with energy paths in mind (very similar infact to the way that crash cells are designed to send energy in a crash to various parts of the chassis to absorb energy). The seat energy paths are meant to transfer impact into the hip in a way that exactly mimics the energy transfer of walking to make the absorption of bumps easy. Other studies have included fatigue minimisation (which went as far as font design, and the reason Mazda has released new company and interior fonts is straight out of that research) and response to delays (they found for example that a human tends not to notice anything under 300ms, and therefore they have stated that all their cars would attempt to have no more than a 300ms delay on the accelerator to an action - that certainly meant NO CVT EVER).
    When it came to the Bose system, they tried to reduce vibration. They found that one of the main offenders is the subs in the doors, They would always create nuisance vibrations in the front doors. So instead they have mounted them in spaces ahead of the doors on rigid mounting points on the chassis. It creates a better sound (according to Mazda and Bose), frees up some space in the door and removes the annoying vibrations. Done!

    No joke about the Bose. I spent 20 mins sampling it. Blows the other Bose systems I’ve had away, including my current MX-5 and Mazda3. I guess Mazda brought Bose into the design process early so that the soundstage works perfectly with the interior. I can’t think of a car under $50k with something equivalent.

      @Bryce Czirr Golf and focus are terrible, unreliable and will break down. The golf is boring and horrid to look at. And you seem to be basing everything on pure speed. Firstly, this will be more reliable, depreciate less, mazdas are generally considered more fun to drive. Only a low IQ person like yourself would buy an inferior car because it does a few seconds faster. Are you blasting away from lights at absolute top acceleration every day.? My car does 0-60 in 10 and I am almost always the fastest car on the road. Almost always. I've also noticed that losers like you are always the sort of people who drive super fast on straight motorways and then go mega slow at roundabouts and junctions lol.

    • @xFlared

      This uses the same engine and tranny from previous gen mazda, and they proved their worth. They were solid and no major issues. In addition mazda and toyota are sharing factories in U.S., meaning they do offer quality products. They don't use CVTs and have solid 6 speed auto. Naturally aspirated engines also have less stress on them and can easily last 300k+ miles without significant maintenance costs. In comparison on entry level 4 cylinder direct injection turbo audis you need to do fuel injector cleanup from carbon every 50k which cost $1500-2000. In addition the turbo is behind the engine, as well as the location of the belt and other serviceable parts that are very hard to access and cost a fortune at the dealership just for labor costs. Such little issues in German vehicles seem to be intentional and are clear examples of planned obsolescence. Japanese brands run on consumer loyalty, while German brands run on consumer wallets.

      As I said before I did order mine yesterday and had a talk with the dealer about which packages I want.
      I initially wanted the car in machine grey with the red leather interior as he told me earlier that it will be available this summer.
      After checking again he apologized and said as of right now it seems the red leather will only be available with the skyactive x engine (probably to make the car stand out like if you see one with the red you can assume ok this is the fast version) other than that he told me:
      - The sedan will be available this summer
      -skyactive x will be available in late autumn as well as the red leather (as mentioned before it seems only in combination, but if anything changes he'll let me know)
      - about the sun roof and rear air vents how I understand it after he explained it to me is as follows: There is one main importer for Mazda Europe, Mazda doesn't have the capacity to produce as many cars as other manufacturers and to keep the production cost as low as possible and make good use of economies of scale, that main importer tells Mazda which trim levels they want and Mazda produces them and only them to keep costs at a minimum. According to the dealer the trims are based on cost effectiveness (like if they already have a 360 camera it wouldn't make sense to produce a car with a 360 camera and safety features that make use of the camera and another model that has the 360 camera but not the same safety features) as well as costumer demand
      As an example he mentioned the first top trims of the new cx5 came without a sunroof but the second shipment arrived with sunroofs since more people said I'd buy this car if only it had that and that feature...
      I hope that answers your questions... I'll let you know if I get some new information about the sunroof or the red leather!
      And last but not least one question for you: could you check if the CX5 has a sunroof in Italy?

    Mazda 3's are the best buy for a couple of reasons #1 - the automatic is a conventional one not a CVT #2 - better ride and steering than competition #3 - more sophisticated styling inside and outside #4 - very good reliability if maintained . Mazda should offer the following #1 - get more exciting colors like the Soul Red #2 - a base model less expensive without the electronic gadgets that nobody really needs #3 - allow manual transmission on all models #4 - a bigger screen with touch

    Ive had the 23 model, (essentially identical) for a year and a half. Here i am watching a review again. I love this car. Build quality leaves something to be desired, but you expect concessions for these features and this aesthetic at this pricepoint. I got a black premium model (non turbo) for 32k.

    Great well thought out review! Test drove one the other day and came away mighty impressed. The Mrs and I are seriously considering this as our first car. My only gripe with it is the lack of even a manual height adjust for the front passenger seat. I absolutely hate the hemmed in, dwarfed feeling when riding shotgun. Otherwise, Mazda have once again nailed it.

    Forrest, how would you compare the ride quality vs. the previous 3? I found the previous 3 was a bit stiff on smaller bumps, but rode really well over medium size to large bumps, but was overly harsh on potholes (you can't always avoid them). How was the ride of the new 3 over larger, sharper bumps/potholes?

    Now that the Mazdaspeed 3 is pretty much all but confirmed, I honestly wish they would do the Mazdaspeed with the sedan version of the 3. This generation, it's really better than the hatchback. It would be so cool to see a sedan Mazdaspeed 3 with the polymetal grey, blacked out chrome exterior bits, a cool but not garish spoiler, and a cloth red interior.

    How do you compare this gen to the honda civic ? Comfort, and sound insolation ?

  • @crossmeister
    @crossmeister 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The reason why the Bose system sounds so good is in no small part due to the improvement in NVH compared to previous generations. Most everything that was pointed out in this review is similar to the previous gen. (Clicking of the auto shifter included, lighting excluded). I actually drove out of Austin last year with my 2015 Mazda3 sedan and it returned 42mpg with the 2 liter engine and mostly flat terrain. Considering the 2.5L AWD setup, 34 mpg highway isn't too bad.
    I hope the SkyActive-X will engine make Mazda's lineup stand out and attract more interest in such cars that punch well above their weight. MazdaSpeed version, sure we'll see.

    Awesome review! Also I think you sold me on seriously buying it. The only downer is that Mazda didn't bring the skyactiv X engine version here in the states. A new engine Mazda created on the Mazda 3, it combines diesel with petro which provides both torque and fuel efficiency to the engine. I really don't know how it works but it would've been nice to have that option.

    • @FAST41
      @FAST41 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@micheledamian8671 I heard the same thing, maybe skyactiv X needs a certain octane that US petroleum doesn't use. Either way skyactiv G seems to do pretty well. But still could use more hp so maybe a stage1 tune would be a option for some owners.
