      I picked up a 2015 i Touring sedan this past December. 2 liter, manual transmission, and upwards of 38 MPG avg. It's not the most refined ride, nor the quietest cabin, but it handles a corner very well, gets very good fuel economy, and has the best shifter I have experienced in any of the cars I've owned. It's a good car so far, and I hope it's a long-term reliable one, as well.

      buildmorefarms100 I have the hatch FWD. I have to say it really is a nice ride and clearly has luxury aspirations. To me it’s not slow and with sport mode it helps to holding onto gears but certainly could use 20 more HP.
      what I’m assuming is they are saving any type of turbo or extra horsepower for the 2021 mazda3 speed. Good thing I leased mine and will immediately pay any fees to upgrade. The chassis is incredible and handles great. Can’t wait to see what the next mazda3 speed will be like

      Did you get the Mazda3. I have a GTI and drive the 2018 Mazda 3. Found it disappointing. The lack of power compared to the GTI is just too significant. Also, the GTI feels and looks more expensive...which it is. The paint quality was poor and the metal on the inside of the doors looks like it's been repainted. The GTI just has a more substantial feel.

    We were in the market for a large SUV recently and looked at different options from the Mazda CX-9 to a Mercedes-Benz GLE350. That’s a range of between $60k-$130k here in Australia. We decided on the 2019 build CX-9 based on merits, any sensible person who values their money will see that a GLE350 is not worth the $70k premium over a top trim CX-9.

    I just found out your channel out of need. Most reviewers make a hard focus on top of the line, most expensive vehicles and versions. Tests are all made in conditions I will never meet such as track and steep mountain roads. It's refreshing to find a place where reviews will take city traffic in consideration, where money is not an infinite resource for most of us and practicality is appreciated. I too would love to drive a super car and spend time in a race track but those things are more expensive than a house! Let's be real, as much as everybody loves those cars they're owned by a very tiny portion of the population. We need more talk about an actually affordable car and how it stands up against other cars in the segment, where are you paying for brand instead of performance and how much that costs you in day to day life.
    I get it, car manufacturers dictate what versions get into reviews but they offer options; several trim levels about comfort and power, we as consumers should know if the premium 60k version of a car is indeed 20k dollars better than the middle of the road 40k version (to use a couple numbers, adjust accordingly). Instead, we often only get reviews about this premium version and the other ones only get a foot note.

    I currently own a 2017 3 HB 2.5 mt and I test drove the new AWD HB at the dealership while I was in for service. My impressions from the short drive
    Pros:
    -Even quieter interior. Like close to higher trim Camrys of last generation
    -New infotainment is very nice. WAY better than my 2017.
    -Bose system is a great factory stereo in a sub 30k car. I recommend that upgrade/trim choice to EVERYONE buying a 3. If you don't like music or are deaf, I guess you can save a few bucks there. The aluminum speaker covers do help with the next point, however.
    -The new interior is SO nice. I still get compliments on my 2017(touring mid level trim with fake leather) interior, the new model would blow those peoples' minds. I'm in love with the new interior space. Mazda really nailed it.
    -As a mt driver I hate autos in most cases, but this is one of the best. Doesn't gear hunt and relatively responsive while not in sport mode. Press complain that sport mode "only" changes transmission behavior. If that's all, it does that one thing really really well. The transmission knows exactly what you want to do while in sport. Also a decent manual mode for an auto, especially for the price.
    Cons
    -You can really feel the extra awd weight in the form of lost acceleration above 60 mph. Under 60, you don't really notice it. I live in AZ and we drive 85 everywhere so it might not be important to you. I believe my mt has shorter gearing so it might feel even worse in comparison because of that.
    -I love the interior overall but I don't like the new steering wheel switch gear. I might get used to it over time, but I didn't have any learning curve with my 2017. I could use the buttons without issue from day one. The new ones are very finicky and I find you have to be even more precise compared to my 2017(which sucks as it was already easy to press the wrong thing). It is a bit of a driver distraction if I'm honest. Kinda goes against a lot of what Mazda said they were trying to do in that regard.
    -There is a lot less steering feel. Significant difference. It isn't completely numb, but just so much less than my 2017. Probably still better than most in the segment though. Steering is still very precise and responsive at least.
    I didn't really push the car too much during the test drive so all I can say about handling is, not really better or worse at 50 percent effort. Chassis does feel a bit stiffer.
    Sat in and rowed the gears of a manual model. Not sure if it is a new box. A little more play in the shifter compared to 2017 but still better than most fwd/awd manuals, good shifter weight (better than 2017), shorter throws(much shorter. Feels almost as much as 30 percent), still positive even with some additional play in gear. Pluses outweigh the minuses on shifter feel, it is definitely an improvement. I didn't get to drive it so I can't say if it is better overall.
    Too much typing, overall great commuter car and I'd still consider it(the mt fwd) if I was in the market for another hatchback daily, even with the cons as no car is perfect.

    I just got my 2020 Mazda 3 Hatch Premium in Polymetal Grey Metalic, with the red interior. I had a BMW X1 before this. The Mazda is a premium vehicle in every sense. It feels more premium than the BMW if you ask me. The Bose sound system is ridiculous, even better than the Harman Kardon system I had in the BMW. Don't get me wrong, the BMW was a really nice car, but the Mazda is still about 20K less, and has more features and a more premium feel. I am in love with my Mazda. Funny DC said a lot of drivers complain and whine abt wanting a manual with AWD and think Mazda doesn’t listen...he’s right though. It’s a business and only way for company to listen is if these so called drivers who complain actually go to dealers looking/demanding for them as company will likely listen to the dealers and not to people who simply complain and rant online. The other aspect is if they actually offer it but doesn’t really sell then only proves the demand is low.

    To answer your question - YES, I'm 100% willing to buy a Mazda over an Audi/BMW/Jaguar based on the merits of the vehicle itself. In fact, I bought my previous 2014 Mazda 3 after driving the 3-Series, A4, Jag XE, etc. simply because I appreciated the styling, ergonomics, light-weight, and steering/handling feel.
    Right now my debate is whether to go for a 2019 GTI Rabbit Edition or a 2019 Mazda 3 hatch with AWD...that's a tough choice but I'm leaning toward the Mazda simply because they truly pay attention to the details, and its such a fantastic all-rounder, albeit slower than the GTI, it feels FAR more upscale...what an interior!

The rear passenger windows are way too small and it needs to be about 3-4 inches larger in the back. It's just too claustrophobic back there which is made worse by only having dark headliner in the hatch. I'm hoping the cx-30 will have a model without all the cladding as I think that's just a little more balanced in proportions.

      Both cars are great. I test drove a GTI SE and the new Mazda 3 back to back last week. GTI is noisier and cockpit is more cramped but has a peppier/better engine. I'd want the GTI engine in the 3, that'd be the perfect car. Somehow inside the GTI feels old. If you daily commute and want peaceful rides I'd pick the 3. Surprising, tossing the car around, I found the 3's chassis to be more composed. I agree with Yiwei, GTI is more of a hothatch fort short rides.

    I just ordered a manual G25 Astina I hope that Mazda offers the AWD here in Australia. I think the lumpy 2.5ltr 4cyl has a great power to weight as it's tried and tested. OK it doesn't have the turbo take off but for a small hatchback with that size motor it's fine. C'mon M, Chevy wouldn't know upmarket even if it hit em in the face! Have you seen the $#&* they've cranking up lately? Ed Wilburn was truly the gate keeper, kept all the bad ideas from coming out to the surface.
    Anyway, I digress, they did one helluva job with the new 3 both inside and out, especially inside. Come to think of it, imo this is the best looking dashboard design I can think of this side of the $50k fence. Exterior is not too shabby either, especially the hatchback, got an Alfa flare to it.
    If I was looking for something in this segment, I'll definitely consider the 3. Much better than anything Hyundai and Kia is offering.
    As for your question, it depends. The A3 is reaching EOL and if the new Q3 is any indication, they learned their lesson.
    The part at around the 9 minutes mark is so true, he's absolutely 100% correct.

    • @BruceLeedar
      @BruceLeedar 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SkyActiv-X is coming to strict emissions markets first, e.g. Europe. While it may come in a higher power tune for other markets, the only relatively solid info at the moment is that for Europe the power output is going to be about the same as their SkyActiv-G 2.5 that is standard in the US, so the impetus to introduce a more expensive engine there is low.
      At the moment Mazda is only able to sell some very weak engines (~120 hp for gasoline or diesel) in the Euro market because their approach is to not have a particle filter for their gasoline engines or urea injection for their diesels, so they really need to get the new clean SkyActiv-X in to provide a competitive higher powered engine option.

    • @rennokaz
      @rennokaz 5 ปีที่แล้ว
