Excellent review I really like the way you approach things very informative, clean and precise information. You seem like you’d be a really fun guy to hang out with and thank you because I’ve been trying to figure out what firearm I’m gonna buy next. I’d like to see you try out the PDP proand see how you like that compared to the PDP standard. Keep up the good work.
It's a tough decision. PDP is by no means a bad gun. I think it's one of the best on the market! Love my Full Size 4 inch. Best stock trigger (Canik is there with them, but since it's a Walther clone I gotta give it to the original), reliable, accurate, great ergos. I personally have to pick the Echelon. The way it just nestles into my hands and locks in, the weight, the recoil impulse, the trigger is very nice, if not as good as the PDP it is right there with it. Accurate, reliable, and you don't have to replace the sights to cowitness when you add an optic (was an extra $60 for the PDP). You cannot go wrong with either one IMO. So why not just have both? LOL
I bought the echelon, so i can only speak on that platform. I love it, feels good in the hands and is a great shooter. 250 rounds so far (not a lot) and no malfunctions. For what its worth it came with 1 20 round mag and 1 17 round mag with an extra baseplate. So i ran both 20 round mags with no issues.
Very good review. I do own a Walther PDP-F, and it's one of the very finest, most accurate guns I've owned and shot. I don't own a Springfield Echelon, but I do own a Springfield Ronen 1911 (.45 acp.), and the quality and craftsmanship of that gun is top notch. I think both of these companies put out very well made and top quality firearms, and I think I would be happy with either of them.
Very nice review of both guns. I do have the PDP, full size with the 5'' barrel. Extremely accurate gun. I thrust Walther brand. My parental grandfather had Walther P-39 fighting afgainst the Germans during the WWII. Never failed him. I trust the Walther brand.
It’s PDP for me. I’m a big Springfield XDM-E fan, so I expected Echelon to be all of the pre-release hype plus some. The first day it was on the rentals at my LGS, I took it out and ran about 200 rounds. Did not care for the trigger at all. Sticking with my PDP Pro and XDM-E.
I have owned and loved to carry and shoot the PDP 4 in compact since for almost a year now. I just purchased the Echelon on Father's Day. I shot them both along with Canik Mete SFT. OMG! It's splitting hairs. 3 great guns.
Echelon is the way. I got a powder river precision trigger, zr tactical stainless guide rod with a 17# spring, monsoon tactical lucky 7’s porting job. This joker is the flattest shooting and smoothest pistol I’ve ever had
PDP is my preferred sidearm solely for the triggers. PDP F 4 inch for carry. Full size PDP Pro 5.1 bedside. Had I not already purchased them, the Springfield Echelon would be on my list to try. But I don't think you can beat the PDP triggers out of the box IMO...
Not a big 9mm guy. All my handguns are Springfield Armory. I have 2 .40s, a 10mm, a 45 acp, and a 9mm. The Echelon is one I'm thinking about strongly buying. Waiting to see if they make one in a different caliber.
I just got my Echelon. Really like it but, the Hellcat Pro is my EDC. After I put a DPM recoil rod & PRP trigger w/ springs. I’m waiting on the large grip frame with aggressive texture, to get more acquainted with the Echelon. Great comparison & honest review. 👍🏽
One thing I don't like about the water their magazines are not very rust resistant I don't know what the echelon magazines are made of but the one thing I love about Glocks you could sweat like crazy and in spite of the insert in the Glock mag being carbon steel it never rusts.
I agree with what you said. Both are great, but I also prefer the PDP for the same reasons you said (primarily grip comfort, the weight, size, and presentation). All of that and also because I think the trigger is better and I simply shoot the PDP better. Me having more experience with the PDP plays a huge role in it, but it just feels like it was tailored made for my hands and how I shoot. My friend went with me to Texas Gun Experience where we got to rent different guns to shoot. He's a Glock fanboy and after trying the Echelon, he preferred that instead. He said it handles closer to a Glock (what he's used to) and feels like a custom one. We didn't get to see the presentation of what the gun came with though so your review was very insightful. Keep up the good work man! I'm loving these videos
I’m not the most versed however I think the trigger comparison was not completely fair being they’re not both flat. Either of the flat versions of the PDP take up and break more closely in line with the Echelon. The Pro model of the PDP comes with the flat trigger. The PDP Pro E to be specific will probably, in terms of take up and reset, out shine the Echelon. Of course this is my biased personal opinion.
You know I own both of these, and I’m a Springfield guy but I gotta keep it a 💯 not being biased at all but I gotta run with the Echelon cause that MF shoot flat for a striker fire pistol fresh out the box. But nah real shit, im glad you did this because from day one I been sayin these two guns are damn near twins. Definitely not Glock by a loooong shot. 🤞 dope video my dawg!!!
@@MrDnice309 FACTS IT SHOOTS TOO DAMN GOOD. I HAD TO DROP A GUIDE ROD IN THE PDP TO HELP WITH THAT RECOIL. I DROPPED ONE IN THE ECHELON TOO BUT I DIDN’T HAVE TO LIKE THE PDP. AS THEY SAY, DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS THO 💪😎
The back strap on the echelon you have to move it left and right when it is in place till you hear a click to seat back strap. I had that problem with it moving. 11:48
Great video! Love my Echelon. Shot amazing out of the box. I put on a Holosun 508t rd x2, a nightstick 550 tcm light, and a ndx stainless steel guide rod. Cant wait to shoot it again!
I got a PDP compact 4". Nice looking gun but I just don't seem to shoot it as well as my CZ P01 or HK P2000 LEM. I think it's because of high bore axis and thicker grip. Its bore axis is almost as high or similar to Sig P229 which I consider to be a superior gun. I still like the good looking PDP and plan to give it sufficient range time to see if I can change my mind. You customized your Echelon. Looks are subjective but to me the PDP looks better than Echelon out of the box.
Thanks for doing this comparison. I have both and the PDP grip and trigger separates it from the Echelon. Both are great, but I couldn't find the perfect grip size and back strap for the Echcelon(even after trying the large frame and back a traps) that made it feel perfect in my hand. The Echelon's grip is shaped like the CZ P10. You either love that shape or hate it. However, i would recommend both. They are excellent firearms.
Good video. Great comparison. I've shot neither of these but from what I've seen I'd probably go with the echelon the only reason I'd go with the PDP is because it's older and is more proven.
Man I thought you were about to say Springfield at the end lol. I competitively shoot an Xfive legion. Just purchased the PDP last week and I’m raving about it. Great video. Got a sub from me for sure
@@mikegurv1818 That is a tough question. Really tough. The only reason I'd take my P10 over the P07 is because my P10 is optic and surpressor ready. If it wasn't, I'd take my P07.
Hey man. Gotta say after getting a better look at the Cerakote job on that Eschelon it looks really nice. Good choice there. Now I just gotta choose between these two guns. The Echelon being modular has me leaning that way currently. Thanks for the content.
First time on the channel. Love your format and I became a subscriber. On a separate note ARGG, take a look at timeline 10:00. You may want to consider changing out your grip as demonstrated in a video "Everything You Didn't Know About Pistol Grip: Part 1 | With Tim Herron". The pad of your hand is not behind the grip so you may not get as much recoil control as you would using Tim Herron's grip method. You might thank me later after giving it a try.
Out of curiosity - on the PDP - is that a steel frame? The two should be pretty close on weight if you have a polymer frame PDP. The Steel frame version however would be considerably heavier than the Echelon which is polymer-frame only.
I shoot competition matches the weight of the trigger makes a huge difference as well as the reset and even a 4 lb trigger is too heavy for competition shooting play definitely if I had to pick the PDP for optimum accuracy
I say this the best gun is the gun that's ready when u need it. I love my echelon but I don't ever tell someone what to buy. I always tell them go to a good gun range and try them out for yourself.
Esp carry looks best on Springfield echelon or 507k x2. Flush fit on side of slide. I carry both and I prefer the Springfield because it not as wide in the slide( more comfortable) both shoot great
I own the pdp sd pro 5.1” with the herring-ton arms comp on it as well as an olight with standard iron sights. Also a tungsten guid rod. I really love the gun and so does my wife she even calls it “her gun”! However, I also have the echelon with the olight Valkyrie pl-3R and a Holosun 507. Comparing both to each other is extremely hard cause they are both very solid/flawless fire arms. Besides weight and trigger difference i think the pdp pro comes out on top simply due to the trigger. Overall value comparing price and straight out of the box i think the echelon wins. It’s just really similar and cheaper than the pdp sd pro. I love both guns tho! Really happy Springfield stepped up last year and really looking forward to what else they’ll come out with….. I have ran about 8,000 rounds through the pdp and only around 800 or so with the echelon and so far zero malfunctions with both firearms!

I think when you compare the PDP to the Echelon this way, it's apples to apples because they're about the same price.
