That was one of the best product showcases I’ve seen. The fact a CEO came humble and authentic was enough to make me want to purchase a PDP. That man is world class.
It’s never wrong to offer too much respect. BK appreciated that. And if I had to guess, this has been part of James’ success over the years. And much needed decency these days. Bravo.
Given German culture, it was perfectly appropriate for him to address the older (and not-personally-known) man by his surname. Had they spoken in German, both would have used the “Sie” form of address if and until BK would have suggested the informal “du.”
How is it underrated? If anything it's overhyped. I HAVE a PDP, and I work at a range so I have shot quite a few guns. I think the PDP is a reliable gun, with ok ergonomics, ok grip texture, and a great trigger. The recoil behavior of the PDP is a bit awkward, I find that even a P320 behaves a bit better. I will likely sell my PDP at some point.
Jimmy "Big Time" Reeves, mixing it up with the freakin' CEO of a major gun company. That's awesome. And that pistol looked great. Will definitely have to try it when I get to a free state.
I’ve been really watching Walthers product line lately, and I continue to be impressed with their offerings. Great to see the CEO at a show talking about the product. Thanks James!
I bought one, and I'm waiting for background check to complete. Funny how I started out, several months ago, fairly sure that I wanted a Sig Sauer, because it is what the US Military uses ( When I was in the Navy we still used. the 1911). Then I read about the H&K VP9, and was sure I wanted that one. Then I started reading about the CZ and the Hellcat too. THEN I started to read about the Walther PDP, and thought it was too good to be true so I read how absolutely everyone loved it, and so I went to our local Scheels sporting goods and handled the gun myself. So far it seems to be everything that everyone is saying about it, and I can't wait to take it to the range.
Walther has the best striker fired trigger of any gun. Period. Their only competition there is Canik with... their Walther copy. And the PDP is not just a great product, but one where they continually listen to customer feedback. The V2 optics system is better than V1, and now it's direct milled. I only wish it had less recoil. Between the slide weight, short and heavy spring, it feels like a .40 pistol in 9mm.
I've used the PDP 4.5" as well as a Canik TP9SFX and a Canik Mete SFT Pro. The difference I found in the trigger is the PDP springs back to reset a little more, kind of pushes your finger back. I would say it is up to the end user to decide which trigger reset they prefer.
Hey BK if you are reading the comments I'd like to let you know I've carried a PPS M1 since 2010. Aside from being an easily concealable gun it is built like a tank and fun to shoot. Keep the great guns coming!
Crazy it took them 2+ years to come out with this model. The last thing they need to correct is the polymer guide rod and 18lb spring. SS Guide rod and 15lbs, and this thing may actually be the best out of the box polymer pistol on the market. It's about time Walther.
Are you sure they're going to release this version without this optic? Are they going to release this version at all? I just looked on the site because I want this version.
@@Shenmue06 I recently spoke to one of my subscribers about this model and he said it is a Law Enforcement only model, which he was able to get through his department. So, looks like they will not be releasing it to the public. He did state it still has a polymer guide rod, which I found interesting, but it is direct cut for the Acro and has co-witnessable, metal sights. Maybe one day they will offer a version like this to the public, if enough people demand it.
This was honestly the most impressive pistol I shot at shot show range day. Between the ergos and shootability of the gun I felt like it was hard to miss. They were also one of the only exhibitors that gave me more than 5 rounds in a magazine so I could actually get a good feel for the gun. I will be picking one up soon for sure!
I’ve been on the fence about getting a PDP for weeks now but this video pushed me over the edge! Just brought home a PDP Compact. I want to support a company like Walther and a CEO like “Bernie”!
I bought the PDP Pro compact SD a few months ago. Slapped on a Comp, upgraded guide rod and spring, green dot and a tactical light. I hardly touch my other pistols now.
Just a spectacular firearm. My nightstand gun. The gun I fire the least and shoot with the best. Everything about it is superb. The trigger, slide serations and flawless function. Mounted a 507k with C&H Precision plate and still get cowitness with stock sights. Just an amazing gun.
So I picked one up at the local gun store and man it was on sale because the person who initially bought it did not like it. Needless to say that this weapon is amazing even had the enhanced trigger on it and is so smooth. My department changes weapons every 5 years so hopefully they will open their eyes and see how productive we can be with a new PDP. Also I was so hooked I bought a PCP chambered in 9mm . both has TLR lights as well. Solid Products Indeed.
James, as usual I'm impressed with how seamlessly you go from frat boy jackass to a well-behaved gentleman I wouldn't be embarrassed to go to a good restaurant with.
My first pistol was the PPX the month after I turned 21, followed by a PPS and PK380. Then I got the PPQ match and spent nearly 400 more dollars on magwell, plate, baseplates, night sites, and metal trigger. Now I just got the PDP pro with all that, and a threaded barrel, for 150$ more than the base model. IMO best pistol you can buy under 1000$
Just got the PDP pro. Nice gun and I choosed it over the sfp9. However, a few things should be mentioned: It comes with plastic sights. Not suppressor height or cowitness ready. The cover of the threaded barrel does not hold well and you need to check it often. In Gernany it does not include a free optics plate. The trigger needs to be pulled for dissassembly. Polymer guide rod. Mmh, well I see quite a bit of potential for improvement. Also: pls give us an option with paddle release. 🙋🏻♀️
Mantis X or training lasers are great for dryfire. Even have a mag that resets trigger so you DON'T KEEP RACKING SLIDE & integrating that potential habit during a REAL SITUATION.. Great video!!!💯
I just purchased the PD380 as my first Walther. I have 250 rounds through it and kinda like it. It is far from perfect but acceptable. 2 failures in 250 rounds. 1 failure to feed, 1 failure to go into battery.

Not too keen on the "LE Only" aspect of this model. Frankly any company that does "LE Only" stuff goes down a notch in my book. Which is unfortunate because I have loved my 4.5" PDP from the day I brought it home. Hoping this is only temporary and the direct-milled ACRO PDP will be released to the teeming masses in the near future. I, a dirty, lowly civilian, would absolutely buy one.

I love my PDP SD Pro but so happy there is finally a non-threaded version. Almost got the pro compact last week. Going to wait for these to come out. Don't need a threaded barrel on the compact.
I have a bad feeling that they're only going to sell this version with the optic which ruines it for me. I don't understand why they don't just give us more options 🤔? I want this exact same pistol but I want to choose my optic.
Thanks, BK, for confirmed the name is pronounced just as it's spelled, not "Walter," as I've heard other GunTubers say. I wasn't sure because it is a German name and I don't speak German.
It is actually pronounced “Valter” or “Valtuh” depending on how rhotic your accent is because there is no equivalent to either of the English “th” sounds and W’s are V’s in German. It’s the German version of the name Walter. BK just said it that way because he was speaking to an American and that’s how the name is generally pronounced in English.
They would get more love if they would sell a version like this with the night sights instead of a threaded barrel which half of their customers don't want. Very few people would choose a threaded barrel over night sights yet they don't offer it. They're definitely nice guns though.
Nice. How is the recoil impulse on the PDP series? I heard recently from some shooters that they tend to be a bit snappy, but the TH-cam reviewers never mention that.
It's got a bit more pop than some striker guns (and almost all hammer metal frame handguns ), but it's not punishing, and it comes back on target so naturally it's not an impediment. Part of that is because the stock recoil spring is on the heavy side, part of that is the stepped chamber imparting more velocity on the round than it would out of the same length barrel as other striker-fired guns so Newton's law is in effect. And it does rotate easier than many because of the bore axis. All that said, you can run the gun fast with ease thanks to the ergos, factory grip texture and the amazing trigger. Had an all-day combat handgun class last Friday, 500+ rounds, extended strings of fire, run and gun, etc, and had no comfort issues with my Pro SD Fullsize (4.5" slide, 5.1" threaded barrel, 18rd grip), just a joy to shoot. My favorite polymer striker fired handgun hands down, and I own a lot of good ones. Ended up getting a 4" PDP Compact for EDC.
They are snappy. Heavy slide/light frame and a high bore axis. The “stepped chamber imparting more velocity” explanation has been pretty well debunked by people shooting them through chronographs next to similar guns with zero significant differences in velocity (with the Walther not even being the highest velocity consistently, sometimes it came in last). It can be trained around, it can be mitigated (with things like brass back straps and or wml), but it is there regardless of people wanting to deny it. They are still good and you should try one out if you can if you are interested, but for me a cz p10 was the better choice (and not just because it costs half as much).
Does the PDP ACRO Full size Professional allow other red dots to be installed with Walther plates? I am asking because I have read that the slide is "direct milled". If at some time I wanted to replace the ACRO, is it possible?
So are they actually making this version? The Pro models have the cheap, plastic, non-cowitnessable sights, and no direct mount option. This is the way the $800 pro should have come out of the box.
@@redeye8526 I would rather not have to dump an extra $100 dollars on steel sights, and the push them. The Wheeler hates pushing Glock style sights. Stupid angle. Hand hurt for a week after pushing the sights on my PDP Steel Frame Match. Maybe they will dump the plastic guide rod too.
...if you csn...visit the "old city"..I spend many Saturdays walking around it 50 plus years ago, when I was stationed in Illesheim..about 30 miles away
Night sights, a regular barrel and a smaller magazine baseplate is how the compact pro should have been in the first place. Why walther hasn't released a version like this is something that I'll never understand.
If I could buy this same exact pro model that comes with a regular barrel and night sights I would buy it 100%. Unfortunately they expect you to buy this optic. It drives me crazy that they don't have more options 🤦.

What’s the difference between this one and the PDP Pro SD
I liked the PDP so much I bought a second one.
The PDP Pro that I have still needs a plate between the RDO and the frame. Is this a new version of the PDP Pro ???
I have a pro, a compact, and Walther makes great products. HOWEVER… they would make BBBBAAAANNNKKKK if they made a micro 9 PDP. Cash in hand right now
They’re prob working on it, similar to H&K
@@Romanus- I saw that HK was but haven’t even seen any info from Walther. Have you?
Does this come with plastic sights, plastic guide rod, plastic recoil spring spacer? We love plastic everywhere to maximize Walthers profits.
Steel sights, not sure on guide rod
Like my PDP Pro SC but I would like it better with a lower bore axis and less slide mss.
I fucking love Walther products. I feel the PPQ SC is the most under rated carry gun of all time.
You don't get out much do you? lol
Does the PDP ACRO Full size Professional allow other red dots to be installed with Walther plates? I am asking because I have read that the slide is "direct milled". If at some time I wanted to replace the ACRO, is it possible?
This is the PDP professional, which is exclusive to LE, not the PDP pro which is available to civilians
Please do a video on the simunition/utm and red gun on display. There is no info on their LEO site yet
That is a good CEO
So are they actually making this version? The Pro models have the cheap, plastic, non-cowitnessable sights, and no direct mount option. This is the way the $800 pro should have come out of the box.
most people dont run an acro though this is a direct mill acro cut . rather have a direct rmr cut option
I just picked up the PDP PRO SD, however, I wish this had been released. Steal sights, and no threaded barrel
Tell me about it. I almost bought the PDP Pro compact a few days ago and now I see this. Definitely getting this version as I like running Acros.
Night sights, a regular barrel and a smaller magazine baseplate is how the compact pro should have been in the first place. Why walther hasn't released a version like this is something that I'll never understand.
So is this the same pdp pro but with direct mount? Can we get it?
I’m curious myself.
Well done!
Eagerly awaiting my PDP pro compact
Ordered mine last night
If I could buy this same exact pro model that comes with a regular barrel and night sights I would buy it 100%. Unfortunately they expect you to buy this optic. It drives me crazy that they don't have more options 🤦.
Great interview James ! Cool to get the CEO instead of some dopey rep at shot show
what model is this? im the PDP pro's i see on their site all have threaded barrels which i dont really care for
found it, it is the PDP Full Size 4.5" Professional ACRO for anyone interested
