Railroad Strike Coming? No need to Panic

  • as main stream media play the fear mongering tactics with the American people over the potential railroad labor strike in December of 2022 you need to understand how this could effect you and what our government can do to ensure our nations economy doesn't crash. All of your class 1 railroads laid off over 30% of their workforce back in 2020 and now the reamining people have been worked like crazy with no raise during the pandemic, and no quality of life issues have been addressed. This is the problem. These men and women run this economy meanwhile all of the class 1 rake in billions of dollars in profits. It's time these carries wake up.

In act of high handed arrogance the Congress is attempting to force acceptance of a contract which the majority of rail workers have rejected. The NPR coverage was biased to a jaw dropping extent. I expect a near universal lack of objective coverage.

I’m on Kyle Railroad in Kansas, and at our Union meeting we were told that if UP or BN were picketing at our interchanges or UP was picketing where we get on their main line, it’s up to us be we can just shut down the train and sit there and refuse to cross as “a hazard to our health”

In my honest opinion, I can see the strike happening on December 9th with a big chunk continuing to picket or walking out of the industry if they're forced back to work. Planning on going out that day to see what the railroad is like in my area.

There was a strike in 1978 know as the N&W rail road clerks strike that lasted apx 60 days I don't think today's rail road management could last 2 days. Keep up the good work

92 lasted 3 days, I don’t think it’s the strike itself that will affect things but as soon as employees get there back pay there will be a good amount of retiring and quitting, especially if HIVIZ isn’t dealt with and if the healthcare is disturbed. The job is only getting worse and underpaid the checks not worth risking your health and life for. You can just work a 9-5 or worst case scenario 2 full time jobs, the amount of hours covered working on the rail could easily cover 2 full time jobs. 276 hours is maxed out for the month and that doesn’t include held away, at home on call, RSIA, vacation, Paid leave days, scheduled days off.

Which 1st-class railroad company do you think is probably the fastest to go from conductor to engineer?
I’ve heard Amtrak is the fastest, and I think that holds up because I’ve seen “Passenger Engineer Trainee” posted publicly along with Conductors of the respective title. My cousin works for CSX and I believe he got promoted to engineer in about 6 months but that might be rare. I’m not sure.

If there is no contract, I think the Railroads will force the lockout in order to force Congress to allow us back to work. The railroads will force the issue with Congress and we will have to settle for the same contract as we were offered.

I had a man come up to me in a Sheetz (gas station). He had seen me stepping out of the taxi and knew I worked for the railroad. He had a yard job of some sort and asked me if we were going to strike. I'm still new to all of it and felt bad I didn't have an answer for him. I just told him historically strikes don't amount to much and the president would just force people back if it became an issue.

I know this and I know I will be heading to Georgia next training session, I missed the 0ne on the 28th so I've been taking this time to prepare. I have my boots, printed off the N&W & southern signals and recieved my grip tool for improving my grip today. This will be my career no matter how shitty at first or continuing.
