That is some smooth track work as your unit hardly swayed. Neat seeing a double track mainline with some miles to it, especially considering that back in the 80s the Class 1 railroads were bent on single tracking as much of their mainlines as the could.
An even earlier cherished memory involving trains is this. To get into Sherman, TX., from White Wright, which was said to be at that time "the country," the poor hitched a ride aboard the caboose of the Katy which came down into Texas from Missouri. That was my first experience with train "travel."
Thank you for an experience I've secretly wanted all my life. As a child, the train was a family member. And the roundhouse is a cherished memory. Needless to say, when the carriages were parked for cleaning and the box lunches were given to us poor kids, that was often the only meal of the day. Homeland security makes hanging around a train station these days a no-no. My how times have changed!
Hey! I love this. I hope the Amtrak engineer didn't get in trouble for this. I would love to see a cab ride all the way to Kansas City. I heard some sad news that these may be gone. Yep, this was the Ann Rutledge.
skeetjeffcitysub86 why do you keep repeating your self on how you got the opportunity to ride in the cab????...From the first question that was asked I myself understood why you are in the cab...
Gladys Daniels why do I repeat myself? Bc people keep asking me how I got the cab ride my friend was a road foreman at the time I did this video and I got permission im not saying his name its privacy act but glad i got the opportunity for my photography class
AOKAS (auto rack train) = Oklahoma City-East St. Louis Auto. First letter is train type, next two are origin, last two are destination. There are exceptions as UP does have 6-character train IDs, usually on coal, grain, and ethanol trains.
@NuggetUnit 1. they have probably been sitting for awile so they will want to walk around 2. They can check for defects in the passing train. then when they return to the cab they will inform the other engineer via radio
Flinch xI its a P42DC Genesis locomotive its hard to hold a video camera still especially when the rails are real bad and the engine bouncing also look up amtrak Genesis cab on Google and tell me where to put a camcorder with a tripod I had to take the tripod off bc it wouldn't work so I had to put the camcorder on top of the computers in the cab where the display screens are by the radio
Keep in mind that the cap in the P42 is raised higher than the average cabin in a commuter cab car. because its higher off the ground, it seems slower than it actually is.
Nice green countyside! Great view of the windshield wiper! Never thought to check aim? How does the engineer know thathe first grade crossing was "Quiet Zone"? Doesn't know how to time and sound a proper grade crossing horn sequence? Why no horn for the non signaled crossing at 15:45? 19:26 Why horn AFTER the crossing? 26:25 no warning for any idiots crossing through the train? Expensive cuts through all that rock. Thanks for posting this.
I can't wait to be an engineer one day, I'm going into a conductor training program next year with hopes of one day becoming the engineer... Life long dream... How hard is it to understand the radio on board?

its a rollby inspection they check to make sure nothings wrong with the train since those defect detectors arent very accurate like sparks on roller barings etc... or people on the train
It's a P42 because 1: You can't see a front hood 2: The cab interior is cream, which is in all of the Amtrak P42's. I'm not sure about the F40's but...
some crossings are labeled as silent which means you don't blow the horn. I don't know about this line but they have them on the surfliner down in orange county since the trains pass close to houses.
@@skeetjeffcitysub86 you literally can't do this. it's against FRA rules.🤔 like wtf?? maybe 10+ years ago. But definitely not now. U were blessed lil dude. good run however.

Elisha Olguin this was for a photography class and I have connections but not giving their names and this was in 2005 now fra has a rule that no one is allowed in the cab except for employees
This video is very nice! I also love how the engine sounds! It's so smooth and quiet! I have always wanted to ride amtrak just for the fun of it!
I would give anything to get a cab ride in. This is an awesome clip dude! Keep up the hard work!
Thank you
Awesome video! I love riding on Amtrak. Being an Amtrak engineer would be a dream job for me!
$3 million for a locomotive from GE or EMD, includes $5 wipers from Vatozone.

more track should be like this video. it's also very busy. see how shiny the rails are.
I love your videos and we love you 😍
thank you I appreciate it
Awesome videos man. Keep them coming. It's hard to find young people who are still interested in this field of work.
Excellent video, thanks.Cheshire, UK.

The Texas Eagle--love riding that train
I cannot imagine how thrilling this must have been!!!
Nice Job, would love to be able to take a trip in the cab!!
I counted at least 4 freights going in the opposite direction. How much time is kept between trains, didn't seem like a lot.

maybe it was a quiet zone? There are a few intersections in my town where they aren't allowed to sound the horn.

The Jeff City Sub sure was a parking lot that day!

i notice this in a lot of cab ride videos, why do the crew of the stopped loco get out of the cab and stand outside?
If you're sitting for hours at a time you are gonna get out and stretch when you can.
Are you a Conductor? If not, how did you get authorization to ride the head end?
the freight trains were stopped so we can go by them its typical on this line
Why was every freight stopped if it's a double track main?
Why aren't windshields treated with rain-x?
Bill Griffin cheap
Is that a P42DC or a different engine. Also, how were you able to get this video, I thought electronic devices were illeagal in cabs of locomotives.
What difference does it make? You're inside the cab either way.
I see but I don't understand what difference it makes.
I know but I still don't see why it's illegal to film the controls if he can film the window.
Yeah, exactly.
We're where u going
Is that Amtrak P42 #150
Is this a P42 or a F40PH cabbage
Lot of freight traffic. Pretty close together it seems like.
Didn’t hear a horn at the crossing, are your ditch lights on?
Yes they are on
Yes I got permission to go on the cab ride I got very close connections that gave this opportunity to do this plus it was for my photography class
sweet looks like you enjoyed yourself
I wonder how fast this train is going?
Was he carrying passengers at the time?
im a trucker and this looks like it could be just as stressful at times
its a rollby inspection they check to make sure nothings wrong with the train since those defect detectors arent very accurate like sparks on roller barings etc... or people on the train
Thank you very much
Aaron Harvey ur welcome anytime thanks for the liking of my video
Are you going to modoc rail academy?
Well, must admithat if less of the screen were the windshield wiper, the bright sky may make the darker scenery darker.
It's a P42 because
1: You can't see a front hood
2: The cab interior is cream, which is in all of the Amtrak P42's. I'm not sure about the F40's but...
@ 0:55 no horn salute for the grade crossing?!?!?
I think that was a quiet zone.
i agree with steve yeah those freight trains were waiting on amtrak to get by so they can move
@barbarysheep1 bout 35aday up jeff city sub.
are you a conductor,or a really lucky passenger?
How did you get up there? Do you know the engineer or something?
I knew the road foreman and got permission
That windshield wiper looks hand operated.
the audio is off on the video
i got connections that known me for a very long time plus it was for my photography class back in 2005 and got permission
@bnsf4. Pacific,Mo.
I think that old Genesis P42DC 1997 one.
What part of the country was this at? And what Amtrak train was this? Thank you.
Andres Morales try reading the description.
Where you the driver on the conductor
cool let me know how that works out
missouri river on the left
Why is every other train stopped and there are men standing next to the train?
Ever think those were crew members lol.
From Kirk wood to St.Louis it is all quiet zone.
mi pasion y mi vida los trenes
Why was every train on the opposite track stopped?
There are almost no Amtrak P40's. I think only NJ Transit bought those.
where was the horn at 0:57 lol
I need to be educated when it is mandatory to do the special US rr crossing whistle blow, or did they just forget,
some crossings are labeled as silent which means you don't blow the horn. I don't know about this line but they have them on the surfliner down in orange county since the trains pass close to houses.
Robert Kerr the crossings when we left the station in Kirkwood mo are quite zones and they can only ring the bell
Through the door.
wow cool
Who was your Engineer? I use to work out of KCY for Amtrak.

Filmed on my Birthday.
My boyfriend is an engineer for Amtrak and I can't even get a cab ride.
That's odd; he gives his other girlfriends rides in the cab like once a week. He's just being selfish.
thats post 9-11 security policy for ya.

thats how they run it on the jefferson city subdivision
Your wipers are a big fail ..... What kind of micky-mouse railroad is that ??
Amtrak, and they go up and down like that to let you know they still work.trust me I work for Amtrak.
Telltale Games What kind of job you have and would it be a good job being an Engineer Locomotive for Amtrak? I'm interested in being one.
I love that autistic windshield wiper.
The Trains are just as busy moving on the railtracks as theTraffic can be moving on the Highways.
I wanna ride in a Amtrak cab how can I get in one?
You have to know someone who works for the railroad.
Best f ing job in the world...WOW
