@@bitspacemusic Well, undeniable the last 6 lines of the "Hallowed" lyrics are word by word already used in Beckett's "Life's Shadow" from 1973. But to be honest, this does not make the song "Hallowed be thy name" to what it is. Simply listen to "Life's Shadow", which might be a great piece of art but it is still quite a different song. It's not even similar to "Hallowed" and to what made this song so successful (but there are closer similarities to the Maiden song "Nomad"). Where are the double guitars, the galloping bass and drums and the "air-raid siren" vocals? True, Steve Harris is a Beckett fan, he knew the music and was probably influenced by Beckett when writing "Hallowed". But I would not go that far and say "Beckett wrote Hallowed partially." No, these are cross references and citations in best case. Maiden never made a secret of being Beckett fans: they covered the Beckett song "A rainbow's gold", there were regular meetings between Beckett and Maiden band members, they were invited as VIP to Maiden concerts etc. It's hard to believe Steve Harris stole the song material and ripped Beckett off, if there seems to be a long year friendship between the bands.
@@bitspacemusic Well, it was actually settled in 2018. And by no means Maiden was admitting that Brian Ingham was right with his claim. Maiden pragmatically settled this due to escalating legal fees and the potential huge costs of a court case. Also important to mention is that Brian Ingham originally asked for £900.000 but was happy to get this settled with just a £100.000 payment. If he was so sure that he was right and could get more from Maiden, he could have refused this settlement and insist in a decision by a judge. Well, he did not - so what does this mean? In the end, one has to understand that exactly the same topic was already settled years ago between Maiden and Robert Barton, the other Beckett songwriter with writing credits for A Life's Shadow. Barton claimed back then that the lyrics were solely written by him - and not Brian Ingham. So Brian Ingham would also have to prove his writing credits for the lyrics, which might be difficult. There was a high risk that he would get nothing out of his claim in front of a judge after a long and costly trial! In my opinion, and by no means I'm knowing all the details, this looks more like Ingham needed some money and since his former band mate was already successful with such a claim he just tried the same. He is not the first (and certainly not the last) commercially unsuccessful rock musician who is topping up his pension by sewing a rich rock star that is ideally still active. And they all have in common that they had >30-40 years of amnesia before realizing somebody "stole" their idea...
I must correct myself with regard to my previous post. Brian Ingham was NOT even a member of the band Beckett. He claims to have written the song "Life's Shadow" together with Robert Barton before Robert joined Beckett. That alone should be difficult to prove after nearly 50 years. So there is no obvious connection between Ingham and the band Beckett. And this immediately raises the question whether Ingham also sued the band Beckett, because "his" lyrics were published on the album "Beckett"? More and more the suspicion grows that Brian Ingham is just a freeloader who wanted to increase his pension. And £100,000 for 6 lines of text - if he really wrote them - is certainly not a bad yield. It still remains to be discussed how much these 6 lines of text really contributed to the success of "Hallowed be thy name" or even of the band Iron Maiden. How big was the commercial success of Beckett's song "Life's Shadow", using (almost) the same 6 lines?
One of my favorite bands growing up..they formed in Leyton, East London, in 1975.....You need to check out 'wasted years' by iron maiden. Have a great weekend J
I saw them live back in July, and it was an incredible experience. Even in his 60’s and passing throat cancer, Dickinson still hitting crazy notes. Amazing band
There was clearly defined era where the studio versions of hard rock songs sounded like shit compared to their live performances so much so that before releasing them to radio they were “augmented” to improve their sound.
Funny to think when he 1st joined maiden people were sending hate letters to th maiden EMI office saying who the hell is this air raid siren of a singer ruining our favourite songs, they ignored the insult and used the air raid siren as a positive nickname.
Maiden has been touring for nearly 40 years, and they're still selling out arenas all over the world! I saw them in 86 when I was 15, blew my mind. My drummer friend's band opened up so I got to (briefly) meet a couple of them. One of my best memories. As a bassist, my idol was Steve Harris, so getting to meet him was amazing.
I really love watching these reaction videos. I've been a Maiden fan for decades, and it totally makes me feel good to see someone hearing the beast that is Iron Maiden for the first time. It's like they're just now learning the secret we've all known all along.
Hallowed be this channel. Thank you for going through the metal classics. This one is so legendary. Incredible audio quality on this live performance. Multi shot camera production, just the full package. Iron Maiden in their prime. They were the real deal in every way.
Best song from the best album with the best line up. Clive "monster" Burr was an amazing drummer. The best drummer ever! Gone, but not forgotten ! Miss him. Up the Irons! 🤘
I took my sons to their very first rock concert when they were 13 and 14. Dream Theater and Iron Maiden. As we were walking in, I was pronounced the Greatest Father Ever by at least 10 aging Iron Maiden Fans. We all still have our t-shirts and both of my sons instantly got super interested in music! The whole band plays for the entire crowd, not just the front row. You can see Bruce making eye contact with people way out in the crowd.
The best thing about Iron Maiden is that they are exceptional at everything. Whether it be performance, lyrics, vocals, rhythm, drums, etc. There's just not an underwhelming part of anything they do
I didn't find Iron Maiden until about 1985. I have been a fan ever since. Poetry. Stories. Drums. Guitars. Riffs. Screams. Harmonies. Everything. There isn't anything you are looking for that you can't find in an Iron Maiden song. I saw them for the 1st time this past summer. It was ONE OF THE BEST EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE. I'm glad you can share the awe and appreciation for them, and I'm glad you shared that with us all, too. Thank you.
As a child raised on rock n roll, the elder brother of a friend bought The Number of The Beast and I was fascinated by what I thought was the album art of something dark and scary. He played the title track for me. Now 50, I have remained a Maiden fan. UP THE IRONS!

One of my all time favorites bands. Almost 60 and even the arthritis can't keep me from bouncing in my seat to this tune!!! Add coffee or energy drink and this band makes me bounce off the walls lol!!! I'm sooo Glad that they're still touring
This is probably the greatest song ever written. It's such a deeply meaningful story, performed to perfection, and presented in such a horrific yet thought provoking way. Change my mind. The instruments follow the emotion of the story--anxiety, defiance, existential terror, transcendence. If you close your eyes you can see the prisoner before you, feel the press of the crowd. You don't just listen to this song. You bear witness.
Love the reaction! Bruce is one of my favorite singers, and being the history nerd I am, Iron Maiden are one of the best in that regard! You should check out "Powerslave," or "Two Minutes to Midnight" in your second look at them, which, based on this reaction, is inevitable. Hope you and your family are well, Jamel. And one final thing. Up The Irons! \m/
The band was founded 1975. I'm a huge Maiden fan. I saw them on their first US tour in Dallss. I won't say the year because it will give away my age. You sir have a wonderful reaction site. Love your videos! This video was from the first tour with new vocalist Bruce Dickinson.
Iron Maiden... one of the best of all time... band was formed in 1979 I think? Been around for 40 years... just saw them in Oakland... amazing how they still fill up the arena!
I remember back in September in 2000, my friend calling me and telling me “My bf just broke up with me, and we had tickets for Iron Maiden in a few days.. you down to go with me?” “HELL YES!!!!” I said. My first time seeing them in concert, it was amazing!!! Fast forward to September of this year, my friend calls and he says “Hey D! I know you don’t drink anymore and I was wondering if you’d be our designated driver to Iron Maiden. I got your gas and ticket..” Umm “Hell yes!!!!” We went and I relived that first show. They still sound amazing. And now seeing all these people bring their kids to these shoes, it really makes me happy!! Great reaction Jamal! As always! 💕
Richard gwaltney I believe that was a few days before I saw them. It was on Sept 16th I believe, at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View. Just south of San Francisco
Iron Maiden formed in the late 70’s. Paul Dianno was their first mainstream singer but was fired after their second album and replaced by Bruce Dickinson who is singing this. The band was formed by bass player Steve Harris, along with guitarists Dave Murray and Adrian Smith and the drummer Clive Burr they went on to become a huge force in what was termed the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Clive was fired and replaced by the current drummer Nicko Mc Brain. Bruce is a fully Qualified Airline Pilot, An Olympic grade Fencer once ranked 7th in the UK, A published Author of two novels plus writing his own biography called What does this button do? On their last world tour Bruce piloted Ed Force One, the bands Boeing 747 jet all over the world. He suffered from throat cancer and has since made a full recovery. He’s an amazing person. Iron Maiden are just part of Britain’s contribution to world music. A fantastic and iconic band.
Maiden almost always has a story in their songs. Sometimes it's of their own devising, like this one of a man going to be hanged. But often it's cribbed from some classic literary or historical source.
I find _Number of the Beast_ interesting and kind of funny in its source. Of course, there's the book of _Revelation,_ which you could easily assume to be the inspiration, but the direct inspiration for the lyrics was the poem _Tam o' Shanter,_ and nightmares Steve had after watching the second _Omen_ movie. :D
What is funny is that this beast of a singer is in private the most articulate gentleman you could imagine, and kind of a Renaissance man - from fencing champion to jumbo jet pilot. One of the coolest guy in rock'n roll.
I first ran into Iron Maiden in 1980 when I was staying at my aunt for the summer in Germany. Soon after they hit America. Saw them in Oakland at Day On the Green in 1982 for this tour. RIP Clive.
I didn't see an answer to what year, 1982 and on the Number of the Beast album. I was hooked on Maiden from the time a friend stuck his headphones on my head at school and he was playing them on his walkman. My favorite band, period.
The conservative guitar player is Adrian Smith. If you want to hear him stand out listen to Sea of Madness from Iron Maiden. He is a fkn MONSTER... Playing this song wasnt 1/100th of a challenge for him. THe bass player is an ICON for all bass players everywhere. Steve Harris. Everyone in this band is a legend.
In answer to your question about when Iron Maiden was formed: They were formed in the mid 1970's, but ,Bruce Dickson, the lead vocalist in this video ,wasn't the first one that had been with the band when they were first formed
I saw them in Athens Greece in 2018. Bruce turning 60 that summer and already had battled throat cancer and he sounded better than ever! Look him up he is a very inspiring man.
I've been fortunate to see maiden 7 times since 2006 on every tour available to the UK minus flight 666 and I absolutely love it every time. An experience you would never get from any other band they just have a recipe only they know the secret ingredients to
The only time I was fortunate enough to catch Iron Maiden in concert was during Seventh Tour of a Seventh Son in Sacramento, 1988. Guns & Roses was supposed to be the opening act, but it was raining (more like misting) in an outdoor amphitheater and G&R (specifically Axl) said *No* to the rain. Bruce came out and *shredded* Axl for punking out and fired them right then and there. They then played an extra 45 minutes or so of older stuff to make up for it, which was glorious.
Maiden was formed by bassist Steve Harris. About, '75. This is Bruce Dickinson , first album with Maiden, after Paul DiAnno exited after, Killers. DiAnno was on the first two Maiden Albums , Iron Maiden, Killers , live ep, Maiden in Japan.
I love to watch people react to my favorite band especially if they've never heard of them before. Usually the reactions are good and I love that within the first minute of the song you were so into it.
I'm going to have to get to see them at some point. Been listening to them since the late 80s, and seen hundreds of other bands, but never actually seen them live. One day!
To me, it's easy to see why they didn't keep the original singer (Paul Di'Anno). He seems like the kind of person I would not have wanted to put up with for very long either.
The first albums came out in the late 70s with a different lead singer (who is also badass by the way). But the current lead singer took over the band and became legendary. This song is early 80s as is many of their classic music. I saw them live in 1985 and i was floored. Their muscianship and light show was awesome. i was a HIGH teenager witnessing excellence...LIVE!
Iron maiden formed in the early 70s. They were part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal along with Motorhead, Judas Priest, Def Leopard and many more
Clive Burr (original drummer here) was incredible. His replacement Nico McBrain is AMAZING!! He makes the drums sing. Listen to this song or Rime of the Ancient Mariner on the Flight 666 video on TH-cam. Even more impressive when you realise he doesn't use a double kick drum pedal.

When they originally did this gig, there was only 2 guitarists and the bass player. Steve Harris - Bass Adrian Smith - Guitar Dave Murray - Guitar A few years later, Adrian Smith left the band for a few years, and Bruce, the lead singer, brought in Janik Gers from his solo band to fill the spot. Then Adrian came back and Janik instead of leaving in a huff, stayed and became the third guitarist. The best part is that all three of them can interchange between playing lead and rythem guitar from song to song... and as someone said, even between songs. From a band with a rich history of great songs this one is my favorite. Love to see you digging it. Much love to you brother. Any day someone discovers Maiden is a good day. They are a well oiled machine.
I saw them in 1988 at Wembly Arena when I was 14. I had a great time. It was so loud I mainly recognised the songs as they vibrated through my bones. I got home with ears ringing all night like a fire alarm and had ear infections for a month after!!
They started in the 70s I believe and I last saw them in concert in 2018. I've seen them in concert a few times and it's always the same stage act but incredibly good. You really need to react to the video of them doing Run to the Hills.
The band was first assembled in '75-'76, first album in '80, and Bruce Dickinson took over vocals in '81. After some comings and goings, the current 6-man line-up has been set now since 1999.

I was about to say i have heard em all my life i think. More or less atleast. Dad likes maiden so it was kind of in my blood 😂
I saw them live back in July, and it was an incredible experience. Even in his 60’s and passing throat cancer, Dickinson still hitting crazy notes. Amazing band
Iron Maiden, one of very few bands that sound better live than they do on record.
Old school PRIEST was also excellent live!!! Up the Irons!!!
Iron Maiden sounds good either way!!
Facts.
There was clearly defined era where the studio versions of hard rock songs sounded like shit compared to their live performances so much so that before releasing them to radio they were “augmented” to improve their sound.
One of the hands down best bands ever!!!!!!!.......Nothing today comes close
Bruce the Lead singer is called the “air “ raid siren for a reason..
Which is funny because he is also a pilot (well not since the cancer. So glad he got back up touring)
Very few people outside of opera can hold a note like that man.
Or Bruce "Foghorn" Dickensen
I finally get a "woo' out of a metal reaction- and it's Iron Maiden. Perfect. Thank you Jamel. COME ON!!!
One of the best heavy metal bands ever in my opinion
Best song from the best album with the best line up. Clive "monster" Burr was an amazing drummer. The best drummer ever! Gone, but not forgotten ! Miss him. Up the Irons! 🤘
Alberto fully agree. Clive is a giant highlight on this performance! This song were never the same
Clive Burr, RIP.
@@ricardolangone, absolutelly! Giant!
There's just not an underwhelming part of anything they do
Im 50. and i grew up with these fine gentlemen, doing a big part of my Childhood soundtrack.😍
Bruce "Air Raid Siren" Dickinson... nuff said. UP THE IRONS!
Thank you.
Iron Maiden is what turned my head to metal a long long time ago 🤘
As a child raised on rock n roll, the elder brother of a friend bought The Number of The Beast and I was fascinated by what I thought was the album art of something dark and scary. He played the title track for me. Now 50, I have remained a Maiden fan. UP THE IRONS!
Up the irons!!!!!!! My favourite metal band, hve seen them live numerous times and neeeeeeeeeeeeever eeeeeeeever disappoint!!!! Bruce had throat cancer back in 2015, he beat it and came back better tahn ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved your reaction to the song, all the band members are beyond AWESOME!!!!
Got to check out Rime of the ancient Mariner
Sydney 2008!
Iron Maiden 🤘🏼😖🤘🏼!
It's "Rime", as in the frost that coats a ship sailing in the winter...
Make sure it's the live version!
@@danbuter From Somewhere back on tour 05'
They still play sold out shows around the world.
ahhh Iron Maiden another classic metal band, Hallowed Be Thy Name, this is my favorite song from them, i jus love how the guitar sounds on this one, sounds beast
I also love how God Dickinson lets the guitar players shine during their solo. Greatest band ever.
Love Iron Maiden!Seen them twice in the 80s! They were the loudest one I've ever been to! They are Awesome live!!❤🎶
I saw them in 84 I think! Powerslave tour! Up the Irons!!!
@@michaelhorn9114 yes I saw that one and the Somewhere in Time tour!! Awesome!
@@deelawson4551 ya, Awesome, they used to be my favorite band, but now, I'm really into MEGADETH. Up the Irons!!!

I agree with your great selection of music!!!
I think that is one of most espectacular vocal performance live in all history of rock and metal, and detail: in those years there was not the tecnology of pro tools and effects that many use today!
Look how young they all are. They still rock in their later years. Still sounds the same.
Saw Iron Maiden on this tour, absolutely stunning! They formed in the late 1970s but this was Bruce Dickenson's tour with them. March 1982.
Just one of the greatest pieces of music ever live.......
One of my all time favorites bands. Almost 60 and even the arthritis can't keep me from bouncing in my seat to this tune!!! Add coffee or energy drink and this band makes me bounce off the walls lol!!! I'm sooo Glad that they're still touring
I just saw them live a couple of months ago, they still shred!
Up the IRONS!!!!
\m/\m/
Iron Maiden... one of the best of all time... band was formed in 1979 I think? Been around for 40 years... just saw them in Oakland... amazing how they still fill up the arena!
I remember back in September in 2000, my friend calling me and telling me “My bf just broke up with me, and we had tickets for Iron Maiden in a few days.. you down to go with me?”
“HELL YES!!!!” I said.
My first time seeing them in concert, it was amazing!!!
Fast forward to September of this year, my friend calls and he says “Hey D! I know you don’t drink anymore and I was wondering if you’d be our designated driver to Iron Maiden. I got your gas and ticket..”
Umm “Hell yes!!!!”
We went and I relived that first show. They still sound amazing. And now seeing all these people bring their kids to these shoes, it really makes me happy!!
Great reaction Jamal! As always! 💕
I saw them in 86, "Somewhere in Time" tour. AMAZING!
September 2000? Do you live in San Diego? Haha
Richard gwaltney I do not. But do have family there 🤣
Ah, I see. I saw them Sept 2000 in SD
Richard gwaltney I believe that was a few days before I saw them. It was on Sept 16th I believe, at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View. Just south of San Francisco
As the immortal Butthead once said, “Say what you want, but Maiden don’t screw around!”
Bruce Dickenson. One of the best to ever grace the mic.
So true, they mere mental metal. Like they would be living in a library when not making or playing music.
*Soothsayers of METAL*
What is funny is that this beast of a singer is in private the most articulate gentleman you could imagine, and kind of a Renaissance man - from fencing champion to jumbo jet pilot. One of the coolest guy in rock'n roll.
Congrats to discovering one of the most iconic ones.
I got to see them 3 times back in the 80s! Number of the beast, Piece of mind and Power slave tours.
You know you're in a band with badass guitarists when the singer is compelled to air guitar along. Welcome to Maiden!
I first ran into Iron Maiden in 1980 when I was staying at my aunt for the summer in Germany. Soon after they hit America. Saw them in Oakland at Day On the Green in 1982 for this tour. RIP Clive.
Maiden-They are a bit like Rush with their long theatricals like 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' The bass
I didn't see an answer to what year, 1982 and on the Number of the Beast album. I was hooked on Maiden from the time a friend stuck his headphones on my head at school and he was playing them on his walkman. My favorite band, period.
My favorite of many by iron maiden
The conservative guitar player is Adrian Smith. If you want to hear him stand out listen to Sea of Madness from Iron Maiden. He is a fkn MONSTER... Playing this song wasnt 1/100th of a challenge for him. THe bass player is an ICON for all bass players everywhere. Steve Harris. Everyone in this band is a legend.
In answer to your question about when Iron Maiden was formed:
They were formed in the mid 1970's, but ,Bruce Dickson, the lead vocalist in this video ,wasn't the first one that had been with the band when they were first formed
Yea... Paul Di'Anno was first singer..then Bruce..then Bruce go solo a lil..then..Blaze Bayley..then great Bruce again..
I saw them in Athens Greece in 2018. Bruce turning 60 that summer and already had battled throat cancer and he sounded better than ever! Look him up he is a very inspiring man.
What a Band! They have a Lead singer that fences like D'Artagnan and Flys Jumbo Jets!
*flies
I've been fortunate to see maiden 7 times since 2006 on every tour available to the UK minus flight 666 and I absolutely love it every time. An experience you would never get from any other band they just have a recipe only they know the secret ingredients to
I love Maiden. Being a bass player, I especially love Steve's bass lines. They are some of the funnest lines to jam with.
If you like his singing, then listen to 'Flight of the Icarus'
Or "Still Life"
Beautiful song

My daughter is five, and Flight of Icarus is her favorite song.

The first time I ever heard this song, it was introduced to me as "the Greatest Song of All Time." Man... I'm feeling it.
They're still killin' it in 2019.
and they have another world-tour planned for next year again aswel :p
Yoeri Weenink
Already caught the current one in September
I'm going to have to get to see them at some point. Been listening to them since the late 80s, and seen hundreds of other bands, but never actually seen them live. One day!
He sings, he’s an Olympic fencer and he pilots their jet. Bruce Dickinson. Not the original singer but the one that put them on the map in the US
@Ron Lewenberg I didn't know that, cool, thanks for the info! Up the Irons!!!
He's also undefeated against throat cancer.
DIO DIO DIO RAINBOW , GATES OF BABYLON , DIO'S DON'T TALK TO STRANGERS
Stargazer
Live!
A Light in the Black and Tarot Woman too
I prefer stargazer
Rainbow would be a great star for Dio stuff.
Hung out with him for a few hours two years ago. Just a great man. Humble and nice. great stories as well. Love Bruce.
I saw them last year and I was smiling for 2 days just thinking about show.
Iron maiden formed in the early 70s. They were part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal along with Motorhead, Judas Priest, Def Leopard and many more
His drum sound/tone is so damn tasty. I'm a drummer so I notice things like that lol
You do know Clive passed away from MS, right? Up The Irons, CB! Up The Irons, Maiden!
@@harrymiram6621 yeah I knew that. Was very sad.
@@ben9068....Was drawn to Maiden from Beast art work. Later saw Run To The Hills/Number of the Beast MTV videos. Have been follower ever since. Started playing drums since 13. Just received Easton sticks/drum pad past 2 weeks. Also discovered Sabaton, mid-summer. Like their rhythms, power & lyrical content....
I preferred Clive over niko personally
When they originally did this gig, there was only 2 guitarists and the bass player.
Steve Harris - Bass
Adrian Smith - Guitar
Dave Murray - Guitar
A few years later, Adrian Smith left the band for a few years, and Bruce, the lead singer, brought in Janik Gers from his solo band to fill the spot. Then Adrian came back and Janik instead of leaving in a huff, stayed and became the third guitarist. The best part is that all three of them can interchange between playing lead and rythem guitar from song to song... and as someone said, even between songs.
Their live shows are legendary with their mascot Eddie making an appearance during every show!
Up The Irons!
Bassist Steve Harris started the band in 1974, and if you watch him play live he sings every word to every song just for fun, because he never uses I mic.
The MUSICIANSHIP is epic and totally compliments the singing!!
I love that the music never lets up...it never gives a break to catch your breath!
YES! Now if only I could get you to do Queensryche - "The Lady Wore Black" "Take Hold of the Flame" and "Empire"... pretty please?
hell yes!
Take Hold of the Flame live.
@@lamarheaden6987 My thinking too, Lady Wore Black lyrics tho
any song off the Operation Mindcrime album will not disappoint.

From a band with a rich history of great songs this one is my favorite. Love to see you digging it. Much love to you brother. Any day someone discovers Maiden is a good day. They are a well oiled machine.
You should listen to "Wasted Years"
I saw them in 1988 at Wembly Arena when I was 14.
Have always loved listening to this song the vocals are awesome but just listening to the instrumental both guitarists bass along with the drumming so well put together what a great song🤘🎙️🎸🥁

Iron Maiden formed in 1975 in London, England. As of now they have 39 albums. This song, Hallowed By Thy Name, was written and recorded in 1982, and it's from the album Number of the Beast.
Adrian Smith and Dave Murray absolute top 20 guitarists (sorry jannick who came later, that aint even why, they are just slightly better), best drummer Maiden ever had, Clive Burr (Nikko Mcbrain is fckin great , he is one of the greats easy and has a ton of energy.
