He doesn't pilot anymore because of age limits, but yeah. Ex pilot, master fencer, professor of history, also had a throat cancer and defeated it. He's the man.
I saw Iron Maiden live in in about 1986 for their Power Slave tour . While the opening band was playing ( Accept ) Bruce Dickenson from Iron Maiden came out on the side of the stage and was watching them while leaning over an equipment box and NO one noticed him there ! So as he panned across the crowd and just as he got eye to eye with me I wave to him and he waved back . I felt like one of those girls going crazy for The Beatles back in the 60's ! lol Great memory though .
I've never been a fan of "Heavy Metal". Soul & Motown was/is my kinda music. But after subscribing to a couple of reaction channels (yourself included), I am really really enjoying listening to heavy metal bands. This right here is just fabulous. Everyone on that stage is so talented, it sounds amazing. I mean, can you imagine what being there would have felt like? I don't think you'd ever forget that. ❤🎼🎶🎙️
Old guy in his 50s here, Iron Maiden still rock out with the same intensity to this day, most members are in their mid to late 60s and the drummer is 71, still putting younger bands to shame. Catch them before they hang up their instruments. Great reaction. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is the band that opened the door to heavy metal for me. They’ve been my favourite band since I discovered them in 1983, and introduced me to a whole new world of music. They were also a factor in my meeting both my ex-husband and my husband.
You can pick just about any song from Maiden, sit back and prepare to be amazed. Best live band I've ever seen. Only saw them once for the PowerSlave Tour. Still my favorite show of all time.
Most impressive thing is this was recorded right about the same time NOTB was released. Bruce had been in the band less than a year at this time. Most of those fans, this was their first time hearing Bruce and this song.
My high school days. 80's. Steve Harris is one of my fav bass players. I modeled my bass playing after him & Chris Squire & John Entwistle & Geddy Lee. I was damn good! Age has caught up with me... my endurance playing like that has slowed. I don't know how they still do it!
Growing up in an era when vinyl records were sold in brick & mortar stores, Iron Maiden made the most of their cover art. Lyrically, Iron Maiden is one of the most "classically literary" of the genre. Check out The Flight of Icarus and Rime of the Ancient Mariner as a few examples based upon classic literature. Then check out Run to the Hills for a history lesson from "opposing perspectives".
Iron f'n Maiden. I bought this album when it came out. It was huge for what was considered underground music at that time. We used to classify this as early speed metal, heavy metal, Hard Rock. But ya add in Dickinsons vocals with the ultra talent of the band, its just magic. Seen em live MANY times. Just awesome. I seen em live for the first time in 1984, ad the last time i seen them was 2019. So yea... enjoy this Journey. They are just awesome. So tough to recommend a next song, there are so many... But i would say go with "The Trooper" or "Die with your boots on" off of the next album "Piece of mind". I can list 20 other songs easily, but those are ultra classic f'n rockers.
You are on an INCREDIBLE journey with these guys that I feel blessed to have experienced Real Time. Don't pause / slow down / or shy away now. Hit this band hard.
Great reaction..... my first introduction to Iron Maiden was 1980...I bought their then (unknown) cover of Women In Uniform....I first saw them live in 1982 in Manchester, last time in 2019, again in Manchester... this song, with The Trooper....are classics.
Great reaction, thanks👍🏻 Welcome to the Iron Maiden family. They are quite simply metal royalty. They were one of the pioneers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, along with Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motörhead and Saxon. Maiden hail from the east end of London. I've been a Maiden fan since I first heard their debut album on cassette the day it was released in 1980, when I was 10 years old. I've seen them every time they've played in London and they never disappoint. Many Maiden songs tell accurate accounts of historical events such as Run to the Hills, Alexander the Great, Empire of the Clouds, The Trooper and others. Some of their songs were inspired by classical literature or mythology, such as Flight of Icarus, To Tame a Land, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and others. Live or studio, it doesn't matter, you can't miss with Iron Maiden. They have an extensive back catalogue and it's all killer, no filler. Enjoy the ride and..... Up the Irons!!!
They perfected the balance of moderate heavy, very melodic, sensational, emotional, dynamic, energetic, vigorous, dramatic, journey/story-like music at least mostly
They are just one of the few best things in life! They are balanced perfectly mostly! They perfected the balance of moderate heavy, very melodic, sensational, emotional, dynamic, energetic, vigorous, dramatic, journey/story-like music at least mostly
Well Said... I'm going this Fall to see them (2024) and bringing my 26 year old son. It will be my 6th Maiden concert. God bless these 6 humble men of Maiden, they are the real deal
Welcome to the world of Iron Maiden! I was lucky enough to discover them as a teenager in the late 80's. Check out the live performances of Rime of the Ancient Mariner (flight 666 version), Clansman (Rock in Rio), Phantom of the Opera at Donnington and Fear of the Dark in Dortmund. All epic performances and they are so good live it really is their forte: dualing guitar riffs, sequential solos, driving bass and licks, fills and kick drumming to die for. A recent release (on their 17th album) with an awesome animated video is the Writing on the Wall
Loved the reaction. So glad you discovered and appreciate this amazing band. Perhaps a trip to Chile next for their performance of Dance of Death!!! :)
Check out the rest of their album art, it's amazing! I've seen them a few times over the years, incredible bunch of musicians. Can I suggest The Trooper live by Iron Maiden? It's absolutely phenomenal! I'm so jealous of you hearing this stuff for the first time. Take care bud!
Paul was also amazing! His personal demons ended his Maiden run, but those 1st 2 albums with him still stand up. Also gotta say, he did the songs on those albums better than Bruce when Bruce tries to sing them.
@@troywilkinson160 if not for Paul, Maiden wouldn't be a thing.... it was his deep, passionate vocals that launched them to stardom. Without that, Bruce never would have joined. Some of Maiden's best are still the early ones with Paul.
I was born after the highlights of maiden but I think they are my favourite band ever to this day. I remember purchasing a CD as a kid purely for the artwork on the cover, It was 'somewhere in time' I bought that album on a whim and never looked back. Love this band.
Great reaction! It is always a pleasure seeing someone react to Iron Maiden, particularly this song. So glad you chose this live version, I was panicking when you nearly chose a different one! Other Maiden songs you might like are Fear of The Dark (Rock in Rio 2001) and Aces High (official video). There are so many to choose however. Enjoy your Iron Maiden journey!
I remember being 14 years old, living in Seoul, South Korea (my dad was in the US Army) and buying my first two heavy metal albums: Diary of a Madman by Ozzy Osbourne and The Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden. This was in 1982 & I had heard of Ozzy before, but never bought any his music prior to that time. I had no clue at that point who or what Iron Maiden was. But the album cover instantly caught my eye & I just had buy it, my decision based on the artwork alone - LOL. Needless to say, it quickly became one of my favorite metal albums. Hallowed be thy name is probably one of my top favorite songs by Iron Maiden. Bruce Dickinson's voice is legendary.
Great reaction and thanks for sharing. Iron Maiden influenced the creation of many genres of Heavy Metal, Power Metal, Symphonic Metal, Speed Metal and what you just described thrash metal, etc. What you just watched was a concert that was given a few days before the album shipped so almost everyone had not heard Bruce sing and had not heard this song. In every Iron Maiden concert the crowd usually sings along but not on this one, because they didn't know it and didn't know what to expect. Chris
Thank you very much for calling out the difference between Iron Maiden and more traditional heavy metal. Other songs you'd probably enjoy from them if you liked this one: Phantom of the Opera (1980), To Tame A Land (1983), Aces High, Powerslave, Rime of the Ancient Mariner (all 1984), Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner and Alexander the Great (1986), Moonchild and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (1988), The Thin Line Between Love and Hate (2000), Paschendale (2003), Brighter Than a Thousand Suns, Longest Day, Lord of Light, and The Legacy (2006), The Talisman and When the Wild Wind Blows (2010), If Eternity Should Fail, Book of Souls, and Empire of the Clouds (2015), Senjutsu and Hell on Earth (2021). Their catalog of solid work is pretty extensive.
I tell you what, Maiden puts on a GREAT show! I wasn't a fan until I met my husband and we went to see them in 18' or 19' in PA. This is one of my favorites. And, Can I Play With Madness!
Man, these guys are kings live!!! Better than the albums back in the day. Haven't been able to see them since the late 80's, but it still stands out after all these years.
One of the very best Heavy Metal songs, songs like this brought respect and notoriety to Metal music, it's a brilliant song and a very powerful tale to boot ~ Up The Irons!
Lol. You really stepped in it now! Maiden is a DEEP DEEP rabbit hole! I unlocked it when I was 21 in 1982. Never looked back! Iron Maiden is a gold-standard band - like Rush, Zeppelin, and not too many others!!!

Iron Maiden's 747 jet is nicknamed "Ed-Force One" - and Bruce is the pilot! He's done some cool aviation/history video's too! Like Sabaton before Sabaton!
I saw them live in the 1980’s in Edinburg. It was like being on drugs to be honest. I know what you mean about the tightness, the bass “click” almost matches perfectly the drums, the vocals soar and two of the best metal lead guitarists in the same band. What more could you ask for
Iron maiden are my favorite band since 1983. They are masters at storytelling and being melodic. They’re also a meeting to watch live In person. They are definitely not a main stream band. They are more of a live band. Oh that’s my two cents anyway. Lol. Rock on friends!
They are God status on this performance!!!! No one will ever be able to come close to their tightness, incredible sound ,the singing is untouchable , the bass structure is unmatched add the insane drums and guitars wtf no one can touch this , complete legendary
Iron Maiden are considered (with a select few others) as godfathers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal - and Metal in general. They continue to play to this day 4 decades later - all in their 60's and 70's. Their live performances are akin to a soul cleansing - near religious experience. Fun fact - they replaced a guitarist when he left - then he came back and they kept the "replacement" so now they have 3 guitarists and in some of their newer (since 2K) material - there are 3 solos! A few notable songs to check out live as well; Fear of the Dark Dance of Death The Rime of the Ancient Mariner Paschendale 🤘Up The Irons! 🤘
The whole time you were picking at the beginning I was saying PLEASE HAMMERSITH 82, pls Hammersmith 82…..👍🤘🤘🔥🔥🤘 you absolutely unlocked the cheat code….catalog is DEEP! RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER, Flight Of Icarus, Run to the Hills, Wasted Years, and a dozen others 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
It's awesome that Maiden is getting their do via the reaction Channel phenomenon. Let's face it what is good is good and it can be timeless. Maiden were the influence that stepped up from the prior hard rock or metal in the form of Sabbath and deep purple Etc and they modernize for their time the delivery and then from this era you have Metallica Anthrax Slayer Etc who took from this generation and made it heavier Etc and then that influenced bands like Slipknot and Korn etcetera who have taken it to a different place but this right here is what I would call Classic era metal and it has a ton to offer my friend. Enjoy
Excellent job. They have even better songs. But that’s the perfect song to be introduced to this band. Not to mention how many other great bands that were around at the same time. 🖖
i remember those old days that you saw people out in public with the spiked collars and armbands and leather jackets piercings, crazy t shirts on,the whole bit.
And another Iron Maiden fan is born.. you are welcome. You've just listened to the quintessentially greatest voice in classic heavy metal. The invention of the genre belongs to Tony Iommi, the voice is Bruce Dickenson. Please do some more classics from the band. May I sugest The evil that men do.
Bruce Dickinson. A renaissance man. He also pilots the band’s jumbo jet and is skilled at the sport of fencing. And still sounds great 40 years later.
Agreed. I saw them September '22. It was the 40th Anniversary of seeing them the 1st time, and they were still so on point.
He doesn't pilot anymore because of age limits, but yeah. Ex pilot, master fencer, professor of history, also had a throat cancer and defeated it. He's the man.
Yeah while some range is gone with age he sounds even better this tour than the last one. Kind of unreal.

One of the most talented, creative, intelligent bands of our time and I'm SO glad to have been a fan since about 1983.

Without exception.

Actually this type of music, resembling Rush, Iron Maiden, Queensryche all played very heavy music with wonderful deep meanings
They perfected the balance of moderate heavy, very melodic, sensational, emotional, dynamic, energetic, vigorous, dramatic, journey/story-like music at least mostly
Maiden and Queensrÿche are what I grew up with, so they set the bar pretty high for what I think music should be.
Really when a live version is 100x more impactful than the recorded, shit just all aligned.
They are just one of the few best things in life! They are balanced perfectly mostly!

The "CLICKING" sound comes from the bass strings "SLAPPING" on the bass's body...Playing the bass like a BOSS
PHENOMENAL SONG and singer is almost operatic!! ❤ The energy of this band is amazing!!
Been listening to maiden since day one ,Steve Harris one of the true 80s driving force artist and complete writer thank you sir
Their early stuff with Paul Dianno was good but Bruce put them into the stratosphere when he took over lead vocals.
Paul was also amazing! His personal demons ended his Maiden run, but those 1st 2 albums with him still stand up. Also gotta say, he did the songs on those albums better than Bruce when Bruce tries to sing them.

This video has always been blisteringly hot. I still get goosebumps at the opening.
Excellent job. They have even better songs. But that’s the perfect song to be introduced to this band. Not to mention how many other great bands that were around at the same time. 🖖
"Rime of the Ancient Mariner" is one to listen to. If you want a song, 13 min plus? Can't remember. But you'll love it
These guys were fun to see live. 😊
i remember those old days that you saw people out in public with the spiked collars and armbands and leather jackets piercings, crazy t shirts on,the whole bit.

Should need a Lil nap after an Iron Maiden performance. Try The Trooper
