My favorite thing about Gilmore Girls is as I grow older I learn more pop culture facts/quote from history, and suddenly I understand another reference.
I watched this show as a kid living in a place that’s not the US, there were so many references I didn’t know at the time! Like I didn’t even know what Sephora was back then because it didn’t exist here 😂
i laughed so hard recently at lorelai telling richard that florida’s looking for a replacement for anita bryant when he talks about having a grapefruit for breakfast went straight over my head the first few run throughs
I usually make fun of the fact that 80% of the conflicts in the show arise from "I didn't know when the right time to tell you was" situations but as an adult I realized those situations are surprisingly common and realistic.
There is a poem by Heinrich Heine called Lorelei. Lorelei is a rock next to the river Rhine in Germany (Rheinland-Pfalz), and also the name of a water fairy/siren associated with the place. The poem was written in 1824. So it was at least from that point meant as a female name.
Lol Luke being the safe spot for men is so true - my dad started watching Gilmore Girls because he related to Luke so much! And now he loves the show as a whole
Honestly, my favorite underappreciated aspects of this show is that it really is not dramatic. I think the most "dramatic" thing that happens in the first couple seasons is when Rory gets in a car accident, and that happens off-screen and we find out via a call from Rory where she is obviously okay. There's no special episode about a school shooting, no plane crashes or shocking deaths -- the problems they face feel very grounded in the characters and their relationships, and I honestly have a hard time thinking of any other hour-long show that doesn't eventually fall into soap opera tropes like that. Also, my other little detail that I appreciate (that most current shows don't do, and even the reboot didn't abide by) is that their hair and makeup is just normal people level. Perfect hair and makeup that was obviously done by a professional just takes me out, and I love that they are just walking around on screen with frizz.
Stars Hollow is such a sedate town, when Jess came there and drew a chalk outline of a body on the sidewalk, complete with a ketchup "blood stain", it was a scandal.
the show is so good at replicating what it is to have a mother, daughter, and granddaughter relationship. the nuances of often uncomfortable and downright gritty moments, yet held together by an invisible string of forgiveness and care. the ebb and flow of the likeness of a character is portrayed incredibly well, and the back stories of our three main protagonists (emily, lorelai, and rory) explain so much of how they act and tends to 'bite them in the ass' if they're unequipped with certain skill sets that specific scenarios call upon- due to the way they were all uniquely raised.
As a preteen, we only had one TV, so me and my sisters had to take turns on what we watched. Of course my older sister would choose Gilmore girls, at first I hated it “ ooh girly show”. With in 30 minutes I was hooked, and now I’ve seen every episode at least 5 times. Truly one of the best shows ever.
The comparison between the series and Stardew Valley is so genius. I mean, I didn't know why I loved them both so much and now I do. Btw my favorite characters are Lorelai, Michel, Taylor and Emily
Paris is my absolute favorite part of the show. Also, just the overall character development for the people throughout the town. They add so much comic relief while also having real life stuff going down. One of the best shows of all time.
Way ahead of you, brother. I've been watching Gilmore Girls for years, that shit is so comforting and cozy and I could listen to Lorelai speed run those quips for days. If I'm feeling unwell in bed its GG all day.
Dude this was soooo funny!!! My girlfriend had Gilmore girls on one day when I came home from work and needless to say the rest is history!!! Loved the outfit changes to look like Luke that absolutely cracked us up
I'm a guy, I really love this show. My gf and I watch it at least once a year. It's one of the few shows I can continuously rewatch because it's actually enjoyable and it's long enough that I start forgetting stuff in season 1 by the time I get to season 7. So it feels like I'm always picking up on something I didn't last time I watched it, although I'm sure I've noticed it on at least 1 previous watch. There are actually so many good and funny parts, like Luke telling Lorelai not to sit on a cold bench when she says she's not wearing underwear, thinking he isn't listening to what she's saying while he's arguing with Taylor. Or Luke pushing his nephew into a Lake because he's pissed off at him. Or when testing a speed camera at the town's only traffic light, the flash blinds Kirk causing him to drive through Luke's diner. There's even an episode where they fix the church bells, as it is somebody's dying wish that they ring again, and people like it for a little bit but then get really annoyed with it so Lorelai and Luke break into the church to break them, eventually getting caught by the reverend that very quickly says "Oh thank god, carry on." I could keep going, but this comment is very long.
as a guy who was raised on this show, watching it over and over with my mother i cannot express enough just how formative this show has been in my life.
Found your channel through your ACOTAR reviews, and this is a great extension of that vibe. Guys can learn from the media that women gravitate to! And enjoy it! Loved your Japan convenience store content, too. I lived there in 1999 and ate at Family Mart all the time!
My favorite thing about GG is that, aside from being a show I watched with my mother every Thursday despite angst or fighting, is that they didn't try to reboot it or expand the story years later. They left it completely alone, ending in a satisfying way despite it not being what the OG writer /creator wanted. We didn't have to suffer through, idk, a terrible 4 part update on how they learned nothing and actually got worse as people and in 'plot' years later all because the og writer didn't get her ideal "last 3 words" to wrap things up. An open and close series from 2000 to 2007 that warms my heart
Same here. Love that they didn’t try to do some sort of “ *some measure of time* in the life” mini series on Netflix nonsense that made my brain want to exit my body using any orifice as a means of escape. The relationship between Emily and Lorolai was often so close to my life that it was difficult for me to continue watching the scenes. The things they say and do to each other are sometimes more common among white mothers and much more complex than you might think. For some reason it didn't even occur to me that men might find female relationships so enigmatic, but I suppose the reverse is true too. I have little to no idea how guys relationships with each other are! Lol I suppose I just assumed they were about the same🤷 A couple other unique depictions of relationships between women is the manga series Nana and the book Kamikaze Girls. Both great series about how even girls that are fairly different from one another can end up being the best of friends:)
It's something I've been thinking about recently, and finding media that closely portrays male and female relationships well. I think I've heard of Kamakaze Girls before! I'll have to take a look at it!
I personally think men and women are more similar than we think we are; we’re just pushed in different directions during childhood and thus express ourselves differently. But overall, I think we think and feel very similar things.
@@JITCompilation yeah i think relationships would be similar if societal pressures/norms/taboos didn’t divide them so strictly. A lot of things very normal/common to female relationships you just rarely, being vulnerable and affectionate is one of them. when i lived for 3 years in a dorm house with mostly women i grew to appreciate how different relationships are, i think female relationships probably have plenty of issues/flaws/problems the same way male relationships do. Society really shapes how we behave in relationships and whats seen as acceptable, which can get super frustrating in male relationships, i feel like i always have to have my guard up and there’s often some competitive/macho aspect to it that is just exhausting.
@@GuineaPigEveryday that might be true for American culture, but there are plenty of cultures (mostly European cultures) when it’s considered okay for men to express themselves and where there’s not that kind of competition.
idk i love this vid but its also making me wonder if we differentiate relationships by gender too much... like is there maybe a bit of space for male and female rels to have aspects from both? as in not stick to the norm so much... ig theres a lot that depends on the person
Alright, you convinced me! I have been watching all of Star Trek for the first time for the past year and I need to take a break. Luckily I collect physical media and already have the complete collection of Gilmore Girls on DVD! I found all the seasons at a thrift store for $1 a piece so I couldn’t pass it up lol
I grew up watching this show with my mom and sister and it's easily one of my fav shows of all time and only of three shows that i have rewatched multiple times
Something I think makes Gilmore Girls so great is that your perspectives on everything that happens and all the characters can change a lot depending on where you're at in life. . . For example (SPOILER ALERT) . . I used to hate Logan, but then I rewatched a while back and realized he's actually pretty decent, and good for Rory in a way. He's certainly flawed, and I don't necessarily like his personality, but he's one of the few people who actually calls Rory out on her bullshit and treats her like a person. When I was a teenager, I thought Dean was so sweet, and now as an adult, I think he's kind of problematic. As you age and go through similar situations yourself, you get to understand certain characters more, and others less. But one thing always stays the same. Paris rocks.
i watched the show on tv when i was 10 now m 25 and m still obsessed!! it will always be my fav comfort show btw your video is amazing! the editing is hilarious
I love how thoughtfully you approach this show! Great to hear your thoughts, they are very kind. Your curiosity about sisterhood is great to listen to, I feel I don’t hear this from the male perspective as often as I’d like. Thank you for the great video, can’t wait for more!
And then he played the guitar... Your videos are great, always!! As a fan of GG, I've always liked the dynamics between Lorelai and Luke better, and had the most fun with Luke's rants and Emily, cause well, she's awesome
Gotta second this message! This show is so charming, I watched it with my mom and was so grateful to have had that experience together. The characters are lovable yet flawed but thinking back that makes them so much better. Also love the supporting cast, Patty was a gem and Kirks film was one of the funniest moments in the show. May have to watch it again sometime, thanks for making this!
Funny. Grew up with this show as a child/young teen, now been watching - more falling asleep to it - every night exactly because, like you said, it's COZY. and familiar to me. lovely video!!
i'm obsessed with your channel haha this is truly what youtube should be! but since it's fall you should watch Twin Peaks :o (oh and of course the best character is kirk!)
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that!! I've seen Twin Peaks but I've recently wanted to rewatch it with some friends who haven't seen it before. It's such a vibe!
Ain't gotta convince me. I already love it haha. I met my fiancé in the fall of 2020, and she had it on when I came over. Now we watch seasons 1-3 (best seasons) every fall!
This is my mother's favorite show, I began watching it when I was about 13 and is my favorite show since then as well. It helped me figure out a lot of things about myself and who I wanted to be (much like a certain angsty teenager who loves leather jackets).
I was around 11 when the show originally aired. My dad introduced it to me and we would watch it together sometimes. It unfortunately never happened in the show but is anyone else #TeamMarty??
This show has a really special place in my heart. I think I find comfort in it because I don’t have much of a relationship with my mom so it kind of fills that space? It’s one of the funniest and yet realest shows I’ve come across and you can bet every fall I will be rewatching it lol😂
I recently learned that Pallidino worked on this show, so I'm definitely going to watch it. Her other show, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel is my favorite tv show
Loved watching Gilmore Girls with my mom and dad growing up. It was the best. We constantly talked about how good the writing was compared to most other shows. I've rewatched it with every serious girlfriend I've had.
Fun fact about Gilmore Girls being jam packed with references if you own the og box set they come with little notebooks that explain and name every reference in every episode.
i must say that the fact that you are in the town square or in front of the house when you are talking makes this video all the better hahaha also, the hat and Luke's shirt NICE, I've been laughing out loud while working, thanks so much for this video of one of my favorite series of all time
9:54 100% agree on this. I too have a wife with two very close sisters, and this is exactly how they are. Something I didn't understand myself beforehand.
There’s gotta be way too many men who watch this show. I’ve seen a lot of it from my ex. It’s a hard watch for me but you made a ton of excellent points and I applaud you for going there.
I’m a guy, Rory’s age lol, and a few months ago my wife decided to put this show on because she hadn’t watched it in quite a few years. I was hooked from the first episode, and we are currently halfway through season 6 lol. I can say with absolutely zero embarrassment that I thoroughly enjoy this show (although the last season or two hasn’t been quite as great as the first 4 or so). It’s relatively light, but also has some surprisingly intense and dramatic kicks to the proverbial groin. The writing is fantastic, it’s smart and emotionally honest. I think anyone with an open mind could enjoy this show. And yes…the cozy setting of Stars Hollow, moving through fall, winter, spring and summer is very pleasant lol
This is fantastic production quality for such a small channel! You unique energy grabbed me immediately, and you know what, maybe I will watch Gilmore Girls now. You've got a sub from me, bro :)
I love Amy Sherman-Palladino's work so much (and the cast as well!). When I first watched Marvelous Mrs. Maisel I got the same homey-quirky-cutsie-cozy feeling form this one, just somehow also in a different setting. And she really knows how to blend in the "serious" "ugly" parts in life that make it so relatable.
I haven’t felt super compelled to subscribe to a new TH-cam channel in ages but you’re an exception I’m glad to make. This is the first video I’ve seen of yours and I’m very impressed. Really comfortable and cozy vibe, I like your voice, the editing, the points you made were great, and honestly you convinced me to watch the show. This just feels like talking to a friend. Hope you find much success on TH-cam! I’ll be rooting for you!
this video made me cry a lil bit, i loved watching gilmore girls, and it makes me so happy when guys see past the “girliness” of the show and can appreciate it for its interesting storylines and portrayals of female relationships
I'm a guy who's never intentionally sat down to watch Gillmore Girls, but my mom and sister have watched the entire series tens of times, and I've always enjoyed the bits and pieces I've seen
I LOVE Gilmore Girls. I watched it and AYITL for the first time this year and it became one of my favourite shows ever pretty much instantly. There’s just one thing that makes it hard to watch sometimes: All of the characters are insanely toxic and it gets worse and worse from season to season. This is especially true for Laurelei, Rory, Luke and pretty much every single boyfriend of Rory. GG is also super classist, which was pretty surprising since that’s the life that Laurelei wanted to escape from. So be prepared to hate your life and all the characters when watching this show, while still loving it and it’s characters at the same time 😅
My sister and I recently watched the whole series of Gilmore Girls, during season 4, our brother and Dad came and asked what we were watching and they sat down and they both were fully invested in it and ended up watching the rest of the series when they were free. And this says a lot, my brother is 17 and my Dad never watches series or movies like this and they were both so invested. 😅
I watch it with my wife back to back and I can tell you, you learn A LOT about women. How they think, how they feel, how they deal with life… Pro tip boys, if she likes Luke, she’s a keeper!
This boi really learnt the credits song totally agree though, my ex "made" me watch Girlmore Girls with her, and I love it now, such a great show! shame my fiancé isn't interested in watching it with me haha, she hates slice of life shows
Funny just a few months ago I watched this all the way through with my wife and grandmother. Honestly I (getting some references and witty humor that my wife/grandmother didn’t pick up on) laughed way more than I expected I would. I also liked how the characters actually grow up like Rory and her friends going through high school, then college, then jobs. Very relatable as a 26 year old recently married/semi recently graduated man
My husband pretends he isn't into this show, but if he sees me watching it he stands awkwardly behind the couch and watches the whole episode
Omg I swear that is such a boy thing, my dad did that a lot when I was a kid lol
i don't know about him but i felt more confident saying i liked gilmore girls after watching desperate housewives that can appeal more to men.
Lmao this is hilarious. I got my bf into Ugly Betty and he is sooo into it. Now that this video popped up , we watching this next!
seems like ur husband feels insecure watching female oriented series... fix that.

LITERALLY WHAT I WAS HOPING FOR!!!! THANK YOU 😭😭♥️♥️
I could smell it in the air today that it was about that time - iykyk 👀👀
Thanks for the video Cary 👏🏽👏🏽✨
Alright, you convinced me! I have been watching all of Star Trek for the first time for the past year and I need to take a break. Luckily I collect physical media and already have the complete collection of Gilmore Girls on DVD! I found all the seasons at a thrift store for $1 a piece so I couldn’t pass it up lol
My boy you’re a green flag!
I started rewatching last night. Enjoying your thoughts on this, I hope more guys find interest based on your advice.
I grew up watching this show with my mom and sister and it's easily one of my fav shows of all time and only of three shows that i have rewatched multiple times
Something I think makes Gilmore Girls so great is that your perspectives on everything that happens and all the characters can change a lot depending on where you're at in life.

For example (SPOILER ALERT)
.
I agree, I've been feeling similar about Logan as well. I still generally don't like him but he is actually a good check to Rory.
This is one of my all time favourite shows and love to re-watch it often! This was a great video :D
i watched the show on tv when i was 10 now m 25 and m still obsessed!! it will always be my fav comfort show
btw your video is amazing! the editing is hilarious
Thank you so much! It's such a consistent and comforting show. I feel like I will enjoy it in all stages of life
Indeed my dude. My dad loves the towns people shenanigans and would always sit down and watch the show anytime I put watched it.
Luke and Lorelei bickering is the best!
I watched Gilmore girls and it was amazing show tbh. I love it so much before I wasn’t into drama genre but now I am into now.
Funny. Grew up with this show as a child/young teen, now been watching - more falling asleep to it - every night exactly because, like you said, it's COZY. and familiar to me. lovely video!!
How is this channel not blown tf up? Keep slaying, dude! This rocks!!!
the turn after 6:17 had me CACKLING! Great video and Gilmore Girls is goated
Target audience: people who haven't watched Gilmore Girls yet
Actual audience: people who have seen it at least twice
i'm obsessed with your channel haha this is truly what youtube should be! but since it's fall you should watch Twin Peaks :o (oh and of course the best character is kirk!)
Watched Gilmore Girls about a year ago and it was a great show to chill after a stressful day
You did this show justice!! I’m a male who loves teen dramas more than narrative tv.
Me too tbh
This is my mother's favorite show, I began watching it when I was about 13 and is my favorite show since then as well. It helped me figure out a lot of things about myself and who I wanted to be (much like a certain angsty teenager who loves leather jackets).
I was around 11 when the show originally aired. My dad introduced it to me and we would watch it together sometimes.
It unfortunately never happened in the show but is anyone else #TeamMarty??
JUSTICE FOR MARTY!!!!!!
Your delivery, energy and jokes reminds me of nakeyjakey, definitely wanna watch more of your stuff you're very insightful and funny!
Felt in love with it when it first came out and been re-watching it a lot, especially the first 4 seasons which are my favourite!
I can't express how much I appreciated the credits with the music. I was so excited
Her other show, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel is my favorite tv show
if you like Letterkenny wit and speed of jokes, you'll love Gilmore Girls
My wife got me into this show and now it's my all time favorite show. We watch it every fall and I look forward to it every year.
Loved watching Gilmore Girls with my mom and dad growing up. It was the best. We constantly talked about how good the writing was compared to most other shows. I've rewatched it with every serious girlfriend I've had.
7:06 i love you good sir
THANK YOU FOR THIS
Okay but I LOVE how it looks like your actually in the town and together with the characters in the video😭❤️
Fun fact about Gilmore Girls being jam packed with references if you own the og box set they come with little notebooks that explain and name every reference in every episode.
this video should have a million views, this is so underrated! Lorelei is the funniest wittiest character of any shows i’ve watched
im a straight guy and i fucks with this show ive watched it so many times.
11:36 “I’ve talked with a lot of my female friends” is a BIG green flag - I love it
i must say that the fact that you are in the town square or in front of the house when you are talking makes this video all the better hahaha also, the hat and Luke's shirt NICE, I've been laughing out loud while working, thanks so much for this video of one of my favorite series of all time
Liking and commenting and clicking share and copying the link for engagement because I want more dudes to watch Gilmore Girls lmao
Don't do it guys, it's really good; but then you have to watch Rory and Lorelai make terrible choices and ruin their own relationships.
the cut to the luke outfit change was genius lmao
Not the animal crossing audio how cute
THANK YOU ! This show is incredible for his wrighting and I wtached all seven seasons two times
One of my favorite shows to rewatch these days. Certified GG Stan.
I’ll be rooting for you!
this video made me cry a lil bit, i loved watching gilmore girls, and it makes me so happy when guys see past the “girliness” of the show and can appreciate it for its interesting storylines and portrayals of female relationships
also my fav characters are jesse and lane :)
I'm a guy who's never intentionally sat down to watch Gillmore Girls, but my mom and sister have watched the entire series tens of times, and I've always enjoyed the bits and pieces I've seen
This is an amazingly well made video!! Hope you get the support you deserve
My man. I always love your videos. Love your use of backgrounds.
It is that time of the year🎉
I’m so glad TH-cam recommended this.
I LOVE Gilmore Girls.
I watched it and AYITL for the first time this year and it became one of my favourite shows ever pretty much instantly.
There’s just one thing that makes it hard to watch sometimes:
All of the characters are insanely toxic and it gets worse and worse from season to season.
This is especially true for Laurelei, Rory, Luke and pretty much every single boyfriend of Rory.
GG is also super classist, which was pretty surprising since that’s the life that Laurelei wanted to escape from.
So be prepared to hate your life and all the characters when watching this show, while still loving it and it’s characters at the same time 😅
The toxicity is why I can only do one rewatch a year! I’ve forgotten why I find everyone so annoying by the time fall rolls around
How they think, how they feel, how they deal with life…
Pro tip boys, if she likes Luke, she’s a keeper!
I watched Gilmore Girls with my dad when I was a teen. I've must have rewatched this show about 5 times by now x3
love this guy already
This boi really learnt the credits song
totally agree though, my ex "made" me watch Girlmore Girls with her, and I love it now, such a great show! shame my fiancé isn't interested in watching it with me haha, she hates slice of life shows
That's how it went with my wife haha. Hopefully you can convince your fiance some day!
Never knew I needed a guy with a wooden spoon explain a girl's (now a guy's) show to me.
Very relatable as a 26 year old recently married/semi recently graduated man
my boyfriend absolutely loved this show, he watched the whole thing with me :)) it meant a lot because i love this show so much
My boyfriend watched GG and he loved it so much
