Jan Leyers arrived at his fifth station on his journey across Europe: London. The laws in GB are much more liberal when it comes to religion than in the countries he visited before. People are allowed to practice their religion and wear whatever they want, as long as they don't harm others.
Jan meets Haitham al-Haddad, a popular Sheikh who is the chairman of a Sharia council, one of eighty in GB. He decides on marriages, divorces and inheritances. Jan discusses his rather controversial views on the Islamic law.

You mean the government that is allowing primary schools to learn about LGBTQ+ and exploring their bodies etc? Why do children need to know about this? This is precisely why communities like this need to exist to ensure our children are not confused by the teachings of the gov and the morality practiced in the household. This is one example of the type of concerns communities like this can address that the government cannot. By the way, Christianity and Judaism have similar counselling too. It does not mean it presides over the law of the land but rather simply informs the followers of said religion where the doctrine stands on the issue. So why do you have problem with islam councils only?

As a Lebanese Christian, I feel shocked to what has become of the west. Lebanon was a Christian, modern and peaceful country until those of the jihad religion destroyed it. We have warned the world time and again of the dangers of immigration, yet no one listened. We were even sometimes labeled as "fascists" by world media during the Lebanese civil war although all what we were doing was to protect our country and culture.

The Danish have the correct approach to this problem and although painful the UK needs to follow suit. The culture clash and sheer volume of immigrants is simply untenable.

I'm a British Sikh and proud of the United Kingdom. I respect English laws and culture. My grandfather served for the British army during World War 2 and proudly gave up his life. My father also served the British army and did 2 tours in Iraq.
Why do these people think they have a right to impose their religion on us all? Why can't they respect the west? Why are they immigrating to Europe if they can't respect the people and culture? They've ruined the U.K. which is a beautiful country.

Unfortunately we have some ignorance like this in Canada as well. Once, I went Cabane a sucre here in Quebec with my friends and I went to sit at the vegetarian table because I don't eat bacon. I was asked by a man sitting down if I was Muslim and I told him no. He then told me to go to the next table. I looked at his as if he was serious. After he continued to insist, his wife then started yelling in her language. So I left to the other table. Furthermore, my friend who was sitting at their table, who is a Muslim got up from there and came to our table after witness how they treated me. Also, the man's wife wore a hijab and my friend didn't which both are Muslim. That goes to show you can be rotten to the core and wearing religious garments.

Western laws are very liberal and friendly to the human expression and expansion... I would like to live peacefully in such place and contribute to the freedom of thought ... But restrictive ideologies disturb that fabric and harmony .. After so much struggle and many wars western world attained the peace times letting them recognise the importance of freedom ... I would like to keep it that way and the local laws, culture should always be respected and followed..
You can do that within your communities but you have to obey the law of the Land and that's the most important thing. If you're not happy here in United Kingdom, you can always go back to where you came from.

I'm a Muslim and I agree with this. Obey the law of the land is instructed to all Muslims provided it does not infringe upon your human rights and gods commands. Unfortunately, the west has reached a point where some topics need to be discussed, some were touched upon very briefly by the sheikh i.e. women are subject to tremendous hormonal fluctuations which could cloud judgement in certain circumstances. This is not my opinion but acknowledge my medical professionals. Does not have anything to do with intelligence.
By the way, the man cannot just go and say I want divorce and that's it. Typically, there is counselling prior to preserve the marriage.
As for modernizing the religion there are already elements within Islam that are modern but never addressed. Did you know that Islam allows women to work and prophets wife did this also? Nowhere does it say in the quran women cannot drive whilst some fanatics believe they know better than quran. The issue with modernising, in the context of what westerners typically mean i.e. women can chose to wear skirt and do what they want with their body, is that es you can but then don't follow islam, which is a choice. Modernizing should be taken with pinch of salt for that is precisely what has lead to the downfall of Christianity over the decades where Christianity has evolved to a point far from what the bible teaches.

I just dont understand how you people just dont get that there are differences between men and women. It is not misogyny, it is biology. Women tend to be more emotional, especially during pregnancy and menstrual cycles. And it's not their fault. However, if your hormones play differently with you, you act differently. Women are more emotional, and could divorce impulsively in the heat of an argument and regret it after (once you said the divorce word: the marriage is instantaneously cancelled in regard of the religious law, and you cannot change your mind. Even if you said the divorce word without really meaning it)

he is not forcing Sharia law. Usually what happens in here is, for example in a divorce case muslims come to him for his advise or verdict then proceed the real hearing in the legal court.
Usually they come to him for a peace of mind.

I am an ex-muslim who had been going to mosques all my life but never heard a sermon about mercy and specially towards your wife, obviously the Sheikh was well aware of the journalist and his camera crew hence had to go off script for a bit lol

Prophet (SAW) treated all his wives equally and with utmost respect. He catered to their needs, and always kept them above himself. He never hesitated to show how much value they hold in his life. Show them their real importance and always treat her with kindness. Be gentle, kind and caring towards the women of the house.
He always appreciated even the littlest of things that his wives did for him, from cooking, to taking care of the children. He never took his wives efforts for granted and showered her with respect and gratitude. Be grateful to Allah (SWT) for her, and to her for all her efforts. Appreciate her companionship and show her the same support.
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) always supported his wives and helped them in household chores. He did his own work, and even helped in cooking and cleaning of the house. Don’t let this be duty of just the wives, help them out whenever you can and in whichever way you can. Work together to maintain and build your home. Allah (SWT) rewards the man who helps his wife in household chores.
Our Prophet has put a lot of emphasis on praying together. It is the duty of the husband to lead his wife in prayer. Gain blessings from Allah (SWT) together so that you can be in Jannah together. Engage in praying for her alone. Thank Allah (SWT) for her, and pray for her health and wellness always.
Gifts act as a token of appreciation in a relationship. It need not be materialistic gifts but any form of additional efforts shown by you. Cook food for her, get what she wanted without she having to ask first, surprise her with random gifts, feed her with your own hands. All that is spent on by a man on his wife, parents and children is a form of charity, which shall be rewarded. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) used to feed Aisha (RA) with his own hands to express his love towards her.

Interesting. I am ex-Christian now Muslim and I am giving speeches on Saturday in my local Mosque in Germany regularly. And I often speak about Mercy, forgiveness, good behaviour etc. On the contray, I advice our youngsters to stay away from extremism, violence and hate. Sharia Civil Courts are already in operation and will be given more powers under Labour. These courts will be given precedence over UK law in districts with Muslim populations, overruling the Supreme Court in such districts.

We are not deluded. We just follow Allahs and the prophets guidelines. There are guidelines in Islam for things as small as spitting and for things as big as ruling a country and even war. And also for each and every activity in day to day life ( eating,drinking,marraige,divorce,working etc etc)

Go back a few hundred years and take a look at religious leaders who would ask for young girls to be sacrificed, or even offered sexually, just to make sure that the Sun would rise in the morning. Each does not have its own version. The Fundamentals of 99.9% of Muslims are the same. The difference may lie in jurisprudence or some credal aspects.
