I live in a Muslim country and during Ramadan there are stores/ shops open to buy food and some restaurants open as well. Plus, in Islam you fast if you are able to but if you are sick, pregnant, postpartum, on your period, a child before puberty, or any sickness then you are exempt from fasting.
It's even frowned upon to ask someone why they aren't fasting because that's between them and Allah why they aren't fasting.
What they are labeling as Sharia Law is actually their cultural beliefs mixed into Islamic beliefs.

Sumatran Coffee is the most well known coffee from Indonesia in the western world, however it's not the "Best" we have, it's the quirkiest.
due to the natural processing it often described to be heavy, woody, and earthy. and the coffee you get from the traditional sellers would't be the best example to enjoy it just because "it would not be palatable for westerners". and it's not just sumatra, across Indonesia traditionally we don't enjoy coffee with all the modern coffee fuss. we roasted the beans almost to a charcoal, and we adds sugar (in jogja, people literally add wood charcoal lol).
anyway, if you wanna experience all the subtlety of Indonesian coffess, try modern or upscale coffee places. and try beans below
    - washed/semi washed(just for fun) Aceh gayo
    - washed Bali Kintamani
    - washed Kerinci
    - washed Ijen
    - washed Wamena
to the extreme: Natural/honey/black honey Aceh Gayo

      Aceh Gayo coffee is good!

      @lalahasgone 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@thetabletopskirmisher Lol, yeah. not just corn, in some areas it's rice, or even dried cooked rice 😂
Sumatran coffee in general is my top choice too, but Aceh is 2nd compare to the rest of Sumatra single origin beans, due to the processing it can get pretty inconsistent from time to time, this month coffee would be amazing but next month would be completely off, that's why when it comes to Sumatran coffee in general, Aceh Gayo specifically I always suggest people to get the full washed beans, semi washed is okay, but the rest only try when you're feeling adventurous. But all that because I grind and brew my coffees myself at home, so 1 bag I already purchased would last me a couple of weeks and I have to live with that even when it was an off batch. but if you're getting it at a coffee shop then it's an experience, and if it's an upscale coffee place "the price will be higher" but they will ensure to get the best beans and when it does, boy Aceh Gayo coffee is heavenly.

As a western woman, before I became Muslim I also did not like or agree with the way of life of Muslims. I was a liberal feminist who thought of myself as an independent woman. After learning about Islam and reverting I now completely understand why our creator has made certain thing permissible and impermissible. The one who created us has more knowledge about ourselves than we do. Sharia is the way of life of a Muslim, the way we conduct ourselves, the way we treat others and so much more. It’s not “sharia law” as sharia means “the path of correct guidance”. I think westerners have tried to use sharia as a bad thing, if the whole world was ran under Islamic law and everyone practices sharia we would have a perfect world but then that would mean we were in paradise already so of course this work is imperfect because these are our tests. May Allah keep us firm upon the right path and in our deen.

Praying to statues etc is a SIN and also it's said " Do Not call any man of earth Father for there is only one Father in heaven. Bowing to priests etc is not Biblical....Please there is so many more. ONLY Jesus Christ 🙏 deserves 100% worship. You don't need a priest to hear your sins....just talk to Jesus and ask for forgiveness....Also please don't pray to Mary...nowhere in the Bible does it say this. I am telling you all this because I LOVE YOU and all my life I was on the wrong path in my faith and now I have the relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ that he wants us to have...a special personal one. If you want to talk more please do....

@@theslifestyle2030 We didn't remove the 2nd commandment regarding false idols from our bible. That would be heretical. With regards to statues and Iconography those are just tools we use to become a living witness to God. Its a window into heaven that focuses our prayers. You have to remember for most of 2,000 years the majority of the laity were illiterate and too poor to afford a bible. THe icons were a physical representation of certain things in the bible. A picture is worth a thousand words. Our rituals at mass is based on ancient judaic practices pre second temple period.

I don't need someone now trying to 'flog me in public' for doing these things on my own terms instead of their schedule, or at their place of choice. It seems a system based on distrust. Actually no big different with others city in indonesia...only straight law and regulation base on islam syariah law ...
Very simple way is just follow the rules or law ..
Nothing is huge or scarry thing, just being to understand what is it..
Simple simple law like any moslem country ... No bikini open dressed no rude manners like other culture no drunk or any alcohol ...the rest is normal life ..nothing to be worried or and scare of ..
But aware the manner and dress or any attitude ...
Like when you visit malaysia or singapore ..same with straight rule and regulation ...as long as we do care and obey ...nothing to be worries ...
Event you made mistaken and in unpurposes...they still has undesttanding tolerance for mistaken because you are just visitor ot just normal tourist who has own background and religion ...we still do have understanding or tolerance as long as not happening (again) for the second time ...
    We always welcome
We still has lovely smile ..warm and love to connected ..like typical indonesian people.
So nothing to be worries or scarred ...
To be honest .. i love this city ..there is some benefit when we implement some straight law...
    Save travel to you all...

Hey, just wanted to say that I appreciate your honesty. Sometimes people tend to shy away from expressing their opinions but glad that you’re not one of them. I’m glad that you’ve told the locals that you don’t believe in anything, it’s a lesson for them that not everyone who’s not Muslim is automatically a Christian 😁 I’m also happy to hear things that you don’t agree with.
In general, provinces in Indonesia have less autonomy than states in Australia, but the province of Aceh is an exception as it’s considered a special region so they have their own bylaws. One thing to be aware of is that these bylaws are usually results of political maneuvering. Politicians might propose a bylaw to make themselves look pious and thus boosting their political careers.
The curfew for women was actually put in order during the time of a female mayor in Banda Aceh, while one who wanted to lift it was a male governor. This doesn’t actually point out to anything for them as individuals, it’s just politics. As in other places around the world, religions are potent when used as political tools.
Cheers from the province of South Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia 🇮🇩🍻🇦🇺

of course you can agree or disagree on sharia law, its your point of view... Once you saw sharia law from inside is pretty chill right... but the fact that foreigners or even ppl from outside Aceh has to be careful on what to do and not to do and pay respects to law in the area is effective for them to protect their homeland from unlawful tourist behaviors, that's their point of view... now look at Bali has become. lot's of tourists aren't respecting local's values and they feel like they can do anything since they feel like nothing's gonna stop them there.

I agree that there are problems with tourism, there’s often news about how tourists destroyed historic sites, or bother locals by getting drunk etc. But let’s not pretend that Sharia law is pretty chill, there’s public floggings over there. The people seem nice in this video, but the laws are cruel. There’s ways to limit tourism or harm by tourists without violent punishment or extreme restrictions on freedom of the locals also.

Visited Bali some years ago and found the Indonesians, welcoming, extremely helpful, gracious! and so friendly, it was a fantastic! experience. The diverse of food was incredible! and so cheap. I left feeling that I left behind a wonderful culture, with poverty, but they were never down hearted, of which I found enduring. Perhaps us Brits should take a leaf out of their book. I was very sad to leave and will never forgot the hospitality and enjoyable experiences. My daughter lived there for about a year and just loved it, she moved to another Country, where sometime later she passed away, so Bali will always be in my heart. Thank you to the people for their warmth and unforgettable experiences whilst visiting my last time with my daughter. ❤
